Art Reimagined
I’m looking to open an online store that allows beautiful artworks to be available to the public again. My first collection is multiple arts from Rachael Robinson Elmer. I’m curious if the store is to open soon how many would be interested and would share to others.

2023.05.28 05:01 KayakingHedgehog 36 [M4F] NC - Did I bring a tear to your eye or was it just the allergies?

It’s that time of year again! Love is in the air along with all the plant jizz, and I am looking for the someone who is willing to venture out into this yellow, dusty mess with me, and then come home and just take a nap before our sinuses close up in anger and we cough ourselves to sleep. I am looking for someone to vent my mundane troubles too, someone that I know would be there to help with whatever may come up, and someone that I can laugh with, someone to cry with, someone that would just run with a crazy idea without hesitation.
Enough about me! Let’s talk about what you may be looking for! Are you looking for that special someone? You know, the one that laugh with on a daily basis. The one that you can have an entire conversation with using nothing but funny pictures? Are you looking for the creepy and the kooky? What about the mysterious and spooky? Would that someone be a person with a mohawk that is forever changing colors? How about a neatly trimmed beard that smells of sandalwood? What about the smell of Old Spice? Would that person also happen to have a few piercings and tattoos? Do you like the twang of a Southern accent? What if that accent was happen to be from a guy who is open minded? Do you enjoy a quick wit? How about being fluent in smartassary? How about a guy that is taking care of way too many fish? How about a guy who is starting to find grey hairs in his beard and is embracing the chance to become a silver fox?
Would you like for that person to be able to build a computer and change your oil all in the same day? How about having your tires rotated, breaks changed? I can even do headlights and air filters! Does the thought of helping turtles cross a busy road and helping tiny tadpoles stay safe with a pool of water during the summer tickle your fancy? Would you like to come home and have a pot roast and chocolate cake waiting for you? How about coming home to that random piece of IKEA furniture fully assembled? What about someone who would help while you built the IKEA? Does the idea of a guy who has reached the level of old that he enjoys puzzles intrigue you? How about if he has a love for cats that like to sit on said unfinished puzzles? Are you looking for a guy who can change your oil, replace your brakes, and cook you dinner in the same day? How about a guy who is good with his hands and knows it? If you answered yes to any of these questions, the nerdy home maker package is for you! Who doesn’t want help around the house, basic maintaince taken care of, and some good dick?
Do you have an endless supply of DIY ideas? Well look no further because I do too! Ever wanted a stylish bat house or raised garden bed? I have made both! Would you want a greenhouse? I have plenty of ideas for that! Do you like watching a guy get dirty restoring canoes or building trailers? Do you have a Mad Max fantasy you want to live out? Do you want a house straight from the shire? I have the skills and the 3d printers to make you swoon with possibilities! If you answered yes to any of these questions, the glistening geek package is for you! What’s not to love about watching someone you like getting sweaty while watching your ideas come to life?
For a limited time, if you pick both packages, I will add in the nerdy outdoorsman package for no extra charge! Want to stay in one weekend and marathon Doctor Who, Star Trek, or Futurama? Do you want to play Don’t Starve Together, DnD, or Civ 6? How about Nerf gun fight, or a game of Mario for bragging rights? Feel like staying up late bundled under a load of blankets watching B movies or playing all manor of video, board, or card games? Feel like getting outdoors instead? I can offer spontaneous adventures that may include wondering aimlessly, hiking, and floating blissfully down a river which singing the PACMAN theme song! Random acts of hilarity that could include striking poses and quoting pop culture references! Are you more of a night owl? I can offer you a view of the stars with my telescope!
How about it? Wanna get itchy eyes and a runny nose with me?

2023.05.28 03:31 MisterSnippy The Transfer

                                                      The Transfer

Adrenaline spikes travel through his limbs, dancing across his scales and down his limbs, as he takes his first step onto the pristine concrete platform. As the boundary-line grows nearer he breaks out into a cold-sweat, shaking hands, tingling body. Can't get rid of that [Dangersense] whine, which has been blaring since he got to the Waystation a few hours ago. Screaming warnings for something it doesn't even understand. Annoying. After about fifteen minutes of waiting an announcement finally interrupts his thoughts with a jolt.
"Transference to Pallass from Atlanta will begin in five minutes, please ensure you are standing within the boundary line and have all luggage secured."
A few other passengers pass around a nervous look, packing themselves tighter like really eager sardines, trying to ensure minimum risk of injury. Drezill checks religiously to ensure his tail isn't sticking out of the boundary, but he's well within it, still pushing further into the crowd just in case.
"Transference to Pallass from Atlanta will begin in 30 seconds. Please keep all limbs within the boundary line and secure your luggage."
Closer to the Transfer. More adrenaline, faster heartrate. Lub dub, lub dub. Somewhere his heart is pounding, but he no longer feels it, clutching his suitcase tighter, rubbing against his scales. [Dangersense] is screaming at him, and he's compelled to let it scream. Oh, god-

The change is instantaneous. Gone is one Transfer platform, with transparent ad-ridden hologram walls and blue mage-lit lines, replaced with another, almost identical. Probably designed by some evil [Architect] in a stroke of corporate genius to confuse dimwitted passengers into spending more money. It feels like the entire platform heaves a collective sigh of relief as they arrive unscathed, and then he picks up his suitcase and walks out into the Waystation proper.
Lines of people are strewn throughout the terminal, a series of biological walls, giving up one sardine can for another. The species seen are more varied, less Humans, more Drakes and Gnolls. All either Transferred in or Teleported over from all over the world, all stuck here, placed into queues, surrounded by blue and grey walls, lit by dim MLED light. A [Guard] takes out a handheld device and scans his Chip, holding it in place to get an accurate read, and Drezill stands still, waiting in nervous silence, until he hears the mystical mental beep and the guard nods, directing him to a shorter line, the one that says "Incoming Transference".
It surprises him that the first thing he feels is alienation. He was always different, being a Drake, but this is different. The [Guard] sits in front of a metal box that has a small flashing green light, information about his entire life being beamed directly into her brain. Her eyes glint in the dim red light, scanning lines of information he can't see.
    "What's your name?"
He can count the number of times he's said his full name on one hand. It builds a feeling of uncomfortability within him, accompanying already high levels of distress.
    "Drevill Silverwing Williams."
"Where are you coming from, Mr. Williams?"
"Atlanta, Georgia, The United States of America."
A bead of sweat rolls down his forehead, refracting the light, the green blinking pinpoint reflected inside. He knows he's done nothing wrong, but somehow the woman manages to pull any stress he has to the forefront.
"How long are you planning on staying in Pallass, Mr. Williams?"
    "I plan on living here, I have a work-visa."
There's a pause, purposefully planned. They sit in silence for a few seconds, no ambient noise, just the sound of him shuffling in his seat, cringing against the cold metal, tail wavering.
    "Purpose of visit?"
As if he didn't already answer her question.
"Work. Living here. I repair pseudo-sapients."
The questioning stops. Fingers twitch, typing something on that invisible interface, then a pause. Door slides open, blinding. No smile.
    "Welcome to Pallass, Mr. Williams."

There is no city in his sight, in its place is something else, different than any city he's ever seen. Dotting the horizon are endless lines of buildings and megastructures, surrounding a stone square, like a precious gem surrounded by a jewelry box. The sky is so high here, but still the skyscrapers push upwards, ever reaching hands searching for limit, and finding none. The amount of lights is overwhelming, all sorts of colours spilling out over the landscape below, looking more like stars than the ones that hang in the sky above.
For a moment his breath catches, head involuntarily moving closer to the window, straining to pick out all the details. Far down below is a different world. Similar, yet so different than his own, his own? So different than any other. Millions of people living and working here in a world that 200 years ago hadn't even industrialized.
The magilev cab skitters past a massive glowing purple-scaled Drake that raises a can of Coca-Cola™ to her lips, before taking a dignified sip. She smiles and speaks, the words captured and deposited into his brain via the Chip. "Mmm, you just can't beat the taste of Coca-Cola™! It's as fine as any gemstone found in Salazsar!" Her voice caresses his mind, making his throat feel a bit parched.
"The city sure is something, huh?"
The Gnoll [Driver] speaks and motions a hand at the window, illuminated by passing purple light, startling Drevill into conversation.
"Huh? Oh. I've never seen any city like this, even on Earth. Everything is so... packed together."
The Gnoll grunts ambiguously. "Drakes sure love their cities, no offense. They say Pallass is the most urbanized city in the Worlds, but it's something else to see it."
A pause in the air, contemplative.
"Are you not from here?" Drevill queries.
"Me? No way. I'm from Oteslia. Lived here about 10 years, but I'm planning on moving back some day. Problem is so much more work is here."
The [Driver] doesn't say another word, just shakes his head, and they continue on in silence, broken up only by the sputtering engine and dying rasp of distant advertisements.

His form is dwarfed by the buildings around him, vision denied even a horizon-line, every space covered up by more things. Massive statues sit, watching over sections of the city, stoic. A new one is being constructed, carefully built and placed. Meant to last thousands of years. His Chip wants to speak up, proffering information on the origins of, and identities of, each looming figure. He ignores it.
High above are a few blinking dots, more magilev cars heading to destinations. Beneath his feet a rumble, slithering trains snaking beneath the city to all parts, fast and efficient. He feels out of place, too many Drakes, less Humans. Ironic, but that's just how it is. Drevill hopes he'll get used to it, at least they speak the same language.
Winding streets lead away from the city center, hotels fading away, more sparingly placed now. Like a good Drake, Drezill follows the line. Tracing it through backstreets, around corners, past herds of pedestrians, until the apartment complex appears. And complex is the right word for it. Skills give rise to odd building codes, structures that are safer than they should be, safer than they appear to be. The building seems to lean outwards, lots of concrete, tiny balconies. He sees the top of a few Drake's heads poking above the balconies, lazing about, a few Gnolls enjoying the evening.
The front door opens, and he enters, sneaking through the closing gap left by a departing Human. The lobby is tiny, probably to leave room for more apartments, just staffed by a pseudo-sapient, anyone with a Class and a Skill working somewhere better. He gets on an elevator and rides it up, 14th floor, room 8. It glides up stopping at the 14th floor, doors open with a ding, nobody outside. Drezill steps off furtively, glancing down the hallways, still clutching the suitcase, it rolls conspicuously.
When he closes the door he breathes a sigh of relief. Finally that's over with. He plops the suitcase down and opens it, not a normal suitcase in actuality, but a cleverly disguised suitcase of holding. He heaves and pulls out a body, a Drake looking very much like himself, the spitting image, in fact. It looks real, and with a few Skills, it will become real. He takes a second to unpack everything else, before copying his relevant Chip data and inserting it into the pseudo-sapient. With any luck it will last a few months, and a few months is all he needs. After a moment, he leaves the room and rides the elevator down, passing by identical floors and identical rooms.
Ding. Once again in the quiet lobby, soon replaced by bustling crowds, magilev cars, and rumbling trains. A few Drakes and Gnolls grab kebabs from a stall sitting on the side of the street, laughing and eating, timeless. Everywhere he looks are buildings and people. Drezill picks a direction, then calls a cab and gets on. The [Driver] doesn't even look up, just asks:
    "Where to?"
The door slides shut, cab hovering in place, for a moment cut off from the outside world, as if separated by time and not just place.
    "To Liscor, please."

2023.05.27 20:39 Dclaggett08 Discussion about running speed

Okay, we all have seen a lot of talk about the running speed killing "strategy", tanking and weirdly enough commander abilities. To offer the other side discussion that the speed change does nothing to change these areas if you are playing correctly with strategy and without BF tactics. Go watch a competitive match or clan matches and you will see exactly what I am talking about. Certain strategies will still work while other will have to adjust. This is going to be a long one.
Armor: The people who don't like the speed change are saying you can:• more easily satchel tanks now• makes armovehicles obsolete by just running to point- The way you counter infantry in armor is two fold: either have friendly infantry cover your tank or run a 3 man crew. Those two ways counter ANYTHING like the run speed increase. Go watch the fresh baked goods on YouTube and you will see that a 3 man crew smokes any infantry. Will tanks get satcheled more, possibly but you know what the run speed increase is going to impact, solo tanking which would already be dominated before U14. Plus with the satchel placement time, you have to be in correct spot to place that satchel on a moving tank. Something that has been done MANY times before U14.To everyone saying that truck will be obsolete because you just run everywhere, you haven't been following the game since before update 8 when truck were added. You HAD to run everywhere. You aren't going to suddenly start running from the HQ spawn every time.
Airheads/Supplies: Okay, the main points people have pointed out here are:• Airheads/supplies can be more easily caught before hitting the ground- Okay this on is two fold because, this has always been in the game and comes down to where you drop supplies/airheads. If you are dropping these things so close to point that the enemy is able to knock them out before they hit the ground or you don't confirm the area is clear with a recon plane or friendly recon, that is on you as a commander. Plus, if you are playing against a team who is constantly looking at the sky to see what planes are flying over and what they drop you are more likely to loss your supplies and airhead anyway before especially when airheads drop, half the team is already running that direction to cut off that advance. This is the same argument as people how think their is a mole on their team because they lose all their garrisons. No, your placement just sucks. If you find your team is losing garrisons more quickly, most likely your placement/location of them just sucks. Town center on Carentan either the 4 story house on the south side or the 2 story house to the north ALWAYS have garrisons there or the church to the north. Yea movement speed is a piece of the puzzle but you still have to: A find the enemy garrison and B have enough covetime to knock it out.
Ability to kill at long range:- Okay, I get where people are coming from with this but you know, you probably sucked when you started playing HLL and you will suck again with the new update until you get used to it. We see post all the time about people who get frustrated because they can't kill anyone. This is the majority of the community right now and that is okay. Relearning and adjusting your lead time on shot won't kill you and after playing for more than 2 matches, you can compensate. Not being able to kill at long range is not a valid argument why the movement speed is a bad change. I play on both PC and console and I have 40-50 kill a match on both after the update at ranges from 50-400+. Take the time and get used to it. Hell play a match on El Alemain and see how long you survive in the valley when you get killed from a sniper from 400+ meters away.
Bullet evading:• Zig Zag running- Okay, I am not sure how long people on the reddit have been playing but zig zag running has always been a thing and honestly was adopted by the community before U14 because the only way to get out of gunfire was to zig zag run BECUASE you were so slow. "Shit I can't dive or run away, zig zag" was the mindset. The run speed allows players to get out of really bad situations that before would have meant immediate death. How is that a bad thing? Go over a hedgerow and a MG is suppressing, fall back with dying. We should be able to go one direction, find it isn't safe or almost insta death and divert. It shouldn't be commit to one direct and not being able to change because the run speed doesn't allow for that choice.
Reduced cover running:• Decreased time it takes to get from cover to cover.Again, I don't understand how this an issue. Yes, you are out in the open for less time but the TTK is still the exact same. If someone is watching that direction, you will most likely die. That is how the game has always been. Complaining that you have less time to kill the guy doesn't mean anything, if you are running with your squad and not lone wolf, he will still die like always.
TLDR: The running speed won't damage or hurt the game in anyway substantial and all issues with the running speed increase can be counter by better team play and strategy. Where the team could adjust the running would be to add sometime of inertia. Basically if you are running in one direction and you suddenly go left or right you lose a little speed then you build back up to full sprint.

2023.05.27 18:04 FellowHuman007 More Blanche Fromage (sock puppet) Nonsense

One wonders if Blanche Fromage’s pay get docked or something if she admits a mistake – is that why she never does, and even doubles down when it is glaringly obvious she’s wrong?
She is really, really adamant about trying to fool people into thinking Tina Turner was not a member of the SGI. She has been trying that fo9r years.
In her latest attempt, here, she seems to have 3 points to make 1) Tina Turner should not pose with Japanese people, and there are too many Japanese around. 2) SGI always exploits and publicizes celebs, so if it doesn’t, the celeb isn’t practicing. And ergo, Tina Turner was not an SGI member. 3) the SGI is intolerant of other religions and members are not allowed to associate with people of other faiths; but Tina hangs out and works with a Hindu, so can’t be in the SGI.
We’ll leave #1 alone. Her racism against Japanese is her own problem. But:
Is Tina Turner a member of SGI?
First of all, famous people like Herbie Hancock are very visible as SGI members because they want to be. SGI doesn't "use" anyone, and many SGI celebrities just want to practice like the rest of us. Ms. Turner said in a recent interview that she is very private and talk about herself only to close friends and family. (Also, she lives in retirement in Switzerland). Her not being as visible as Herbie Hancock means nothing.
Ms. Fromage finds little bits of “evidence”, including her own previous posts, and tries to fit them together into the picture she wants them to fit into. Meanwhile, without doing any mental calisthenics at all:
Here’s a MITA post from when Ms. Turner's book came out a couple of years ago, and Blanche was frantic to make people believe she wasn't an SGI member despite the book's contents.. It links to actual Tina Turner interviews, in her own words (as opposed to Blanche finding unrelated puzzle pieces and gluing them together). In one, she cites her friends Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter – famously SGI members and very vocal about being SGI members. In another, with Literary Hub”, we seethis exchange:
“LH: What are some books you’ve recently enjoyed/who are your favorite authors?
TT: Some of my recent favorites are A Baptist Preacher’s Buddhist Teacher by Lawrence E. Carter Sr., Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson, Unlocking the Mysteries of Birth and Death by Daisaku Ikeda, Living Wabi Sabi by Taro Gold, and What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey.”
FYI, Dr, Carter’s “Buddhist teacher” is Daisaku Ikeda, the SGI President. And the Daisaku Ikeda who is the author of Unlocking the Mysteries… is Daisaku Ikeda, the SGI President.
This was about two years ago, not 30 or however far back Blanche Fromage has to go to to concoct her “not a member” untruth.
And oh yeah – at the same time, Tina Turner gave an interview to the World Tribune – the newspaper of SGI-USA. (I’m not sure any members of Nichiren Shoshu do that). And here’s an interview with Living Buddhism in which she quickly and easily shares quotes from Nichiren and – Daisaku Ikeda!
Tina Turner was an SGI member to the end.
But the SGI forbids members from associating with other faiths, and Tine hung out with a Hindu and had a statue.
That the SGI is absolutely intolerant is something Ms. Fromage makes up to dupe her disciples. Yes, there was a bit of that in the past, when the SGI had to adhere to what Nichiren Shoshu priests taught. So Blanche’s idea that the SGI is intolerant so Tina must have belonged to Nichiren Shoshu is just Bizarro World/Through the Looking Glass stuff.
But one of the things cited – a major thing cited – by the priests when they began their attack on Ikeda Sensei in late 1990 was that he allowed the singing of “Ode to Joy” (“The cherub stands before God” and references to Elysium - the paradise in Greek mythology – Zeus worshippers, you know, equating it with Christian heaven). SGI members have been in productions of Jesus Christ Superstar because they are actors and it’s their job One of my leaders – with wholehearted support from his leaders – was a member of a city interfaith committee. SGI initiated the White House conference of Buddhists from many sects.
And that Hindu Tina Turner worked with – sat with her in the Living Buddhism interview, answered questions even. Her name is Regula Curti, and they worked together on interfaith albums – bringing people of different religions together to share what they have in common.
If SGI were so intolerant, I don’t think it’s magazine would feature a Hindu woman in its pages.
Dear Blanche Fromage: You are demonstrably wrong in what you try to convey about Tina Turner. Demonstrably. So if you can’t admit a mistake – don’t. Just drop it. I can repost this as many times as you make this ridiculous charge – but why should either of us have to spend so much time on a settled issue? Let Tina Turner rest in peace until her next life. She certainly deserves better than what you want people to think about her.

1. How to Choose wall Art for Your Home: Style First

https://preview.redd.it/qxj5ox235e2b1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=acfb7c264925e1bd614a695871cc5d1d66d831a9

The first thing you need to work out is what style you have going on in your home. Perhaps you don’t even know what your style is. Never fear, because I wrote this post on finding your interior design style, and it has a list of the most popular looks. Once you know what your style is, it will dictate the kind of wall art you’ll want to look for.
Imagine, for example, you have a Hamptons home like this one I put together recently for my Camberwell client. Hamptons style automatically dictates a colour palette. We know Hamptons is wonderfully white, with pops of blue, some greys, occasionally black and sometimes even accents of gold. It’s soft, it’s serene, it’s sophisticated. It would be weird to bring in a bright red painting with a street wall art influence, right?
The same goes for an industrial interior design scheme. You’ve got exposed brick, you’ve got metal chairs, you’ve got concrete and maybe even a fair amount of black on walls. It would be just as weird, then, to pop up an artwork featuring pink roses in a white frame. It’s just going to fight with the scheme you’ve got going on.
So, always assess the style of your space first. That’ll help you choose wall art for your home much more easily. Sometimes you might see wall art you love, but you’ll know in your hear that it won’t work with your style.

2. Now, Decide if you Want Wall Art to be the Focal Point

https://preview.redd.it/wp4cgi055e2b1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=65beeac8f22f0d1766ebf123cc4704a3f0b456de

Every rooms needs a focal point. When you walk into your living room, for example, what’s the first thing you notice? That’s your room’s focal point. Now, sometimes not all focal points are good. It could be that your eye goes right to an aircon vent on the wall. If that’s the case, you need to change the focal point.
Now, wall art can be an amazing focal point. So can a rug. A focal point is usually one of the two in a living zone, but it could also be stunning lighting. Perhaps you have a pendant as a feature in your space. Or it could be a quilt cover set in your bedroom.
The moral of the story is this: your room should only have one focal point. So if you already have one, choose wall art that’s less imposing. If you don’t have a focal point yet (and the room feels a bit flat or boring) then you know you can choose wall art for your home that feels more visually striking.
When I say less imposing, by the way, I don’t mean that the wall art has to be small. I just mean it won’t be bright, or heavily patterned. Size really matters when it comes to wall art, and that brings me onto my next point.

3. Then Figure out the Right Size

https://preview.redd.it/urwsiz175e2b1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=79239fd3244c3e6e5862113caa49196bdddbb987
Abstract Big White Flower Canvas Painting Modern Print Poster for Living Room Aisle Fashion Wall Art Picture Plant Tableau Salon
Honestly, the biggest wall art issue I see when I walk into a home has to do with scale. There will be a huge wall with a tiny piece of wall art on it. Or a huge wall with three small frames spaced miles apart. I know that larger wall art is naturally more expensive, but it’s worth the splurge to save your space from looking off-kilter.
It’s actually a bit difficult to tell you exactly what size wall art you should get for your room without seeing it. It’s rare though that I see someone with wall art on a wall where I think it’s too big. So rare. It’s usually quite small.
The wall art needs to speak and relate to the furniture around it. For example:
  • Art should span almost the entire width of your bed’s headboard
  • It should also run almost the full width of your sideboard or dining table
  • If it’s above an entry table, same rules: span almost the full length, but never over
  • If it’s in an area with no furniture below it, it should take up a large amount of that wall
Look to the images in this post that show you how wall art takes up a space size-wise.
And the golden rule before you shop: always measure your bed, or sideboard, or table before you buy art. Always go to a store armed with the measurements and don’t be swayed by the wrong piece.

4. Deciding on One Large Piece, or Two Smaller Ones

https://preview.redd.it/5db1u6gg5e2b1.png?width=736&format=png&auto=webp&s=d96825290e998b197c15254d4502179fd0682426
Often, in a spot like above a bed, you’re left wondering if you buy one large piece of wall art, or two smaller ones. It actually doesn’t matter, as long as the two artworks will still almost span the width of the headboard. Ensure you factor in that you’ll need 10 to 20cm of space between the two artworks when they’re hung though.
Whether you buy one artwork or two also depends on what else is going on in the room. In a living room, for example, with two walls across from each other, I would always vary the wall art. So I’d do one large piece of wall art on one wall, and then two smaller artworks on the other wall. If you do one piece of wall art the same size directly across from one another, it looks like a weird mirror image.
You can see this rule at play above in my Camberwell project. Notice how there’s one piece of art on the left wall, but two pieces on the right? Imagine if it was two pieces and then two pieces again on the opposite wall. It would just look like a mistake.
You can also do a grid of wall art, or a trio of wall art on some walls too. It’s all about figuring out the size of wall you need to fill, and then filling it with something. That something can be one piece, two pieces, a four grid, and so on.

5. To Buy Canvas Wall Art or Framed Art?

https://preview.redd.it/xfwh0jih5e2b1.png?width=735&format=png&auto=webp&s=f01af5140f29ff68b866ce71bc08169af1f6e925
I wouldn’t get too caught up on this one. What I will say though is that unframed canvas wall art can look more relaxed. Most of the budget chains that sell canvas wall art unframed sell it this way because it’s so cheap to produce. And because of that, it can feel cheaper on your walls.
The exception to this rule is original art, where an actual artist has put their heart and soul into something on a quality canvas. You can tell the difference between that and something a budget chain is selling for $15. I love to support local artists doing amazing work, so if you do to, check out this post on amazing local abstract artists.
Framed canvas wall art can look a bit more upmarket. I tend to put this in a lot of my client homes. Having a black frame around a canvas artwork often gives it a bit more presence in a space. And then framed wall art behind a panel of glass can look the most high-end. Depending on what art sits inside it, of course.
Word of warning about glass art: think about light coming into the room when it comes to art behind glass. Often, if you’re in a room flooded with light, the glare on the glass can be so great that you barely see what’s behind it. And so you defeat the whole purpose of hanging a gorg piece of art on your walls.

6. Lastly, Hunt Down a Piece you Love

https://preview.redd.it/da737kkd5e2b1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=400be549ffcc2496e6f40786a3f2a21392082ebe
100% Handmade Gold Silver Flower Wall Paintings Modern Abstract Oil Painting on Canvas Hand Painted Beauty Home Decor Picture
You should have a good idea of how to choose wall art for your home now. You’ve figured out your home’s style. You know if you want the wall art to be a focal point. You’ve got your sizing sorted. And you’re across the configuration. The last piece of the puzzle is to find wall art that ticks all of those boxes and is something you genuinely love.
But truly, don’t get stuck in the love mindset. You can like it. You don’t have to be falling head over heels for it. It’s really about how the room looks as a whole, and the wall art is one piece of that puzzle.
If you follow all of the guidelines above I’m certain you’ll know how to buy wall art for your home when you’re in-store. Or even online. It’s funny to think that the design itself is almost the least important part to get right, but it’s true. All those other factors are crucial, then you finally get down the the design in the last leg of the race!

2023.05.27 11:01 sed_non_extra A game of Exalted goes awry when the party decide to make a giant animal a familiar.

I've been running Exalted (second edition) for a few years now. If you don't know, Exalted is a fantasy setting that has more in common with ancient mythology & Dragon Ball Z. The characters have started in a major city. Picture London or New York, but in the 1890s. There’s this one city block that’s walled off by the city guard because it’s a wyld zone. There’s basically a ball of chaos covering a few buildings, & there are reality-warping Faeries living in the chaos. The wyld is walled off because if you go in you get warped & mutated in body-horror ways. If you survive you still have Faeries in there.
The players have teamed up & are looking for a job. One of them comes across a little girl who’s sad.
“What’s wrong little girl?”
“My kitty ran away.”
"What was your kitten’s name, deary?”
“Duchess.”
“We have a quest! WE ARE GOING TO FIND DUCHESS FOR YOU!
The party includes Dani (a sorceress & scholar), Pachiru (a shape-changer who controls animals), a necromancer, & two more shape-changers. The party overall is highly educated & has multiple crafts-focused players.
The players have supernatural tracking, so they track Duchess the cat across town to the big ball of chaos. The guards don’t want to let the players in because the chaos will mutate them in unpredictable ways, creating body-horror monsters. One of the players (Dani) has an ability that creates an “island of stability” preventing the harmful effects of walking around in chaos. They go to the city government & get permission to go into the chaos ball. When they approach their Storyteller plays up the danger, describing safety measures & the guards seeming legitimately worried that the players won’t be coming back. They keep warning that there’s a real risk of the chaos changing you, altering your body in horrific ways.
The players enter the ball & after a fuzzy non-existence they walk up to a place that is bigger on the inside. They discover a massive Antebellum Southern manor & surrounding grounds… made entirely of candy. Strange Faerie nobles wearing masks & robes like in Eyes Wide Shut are standing around talking, lording over semi-intelligent goblin servants. The humans talk their way in & meet with the lords of the manor.
The Faerie in charge has a traditional throne room, & has made a leash out of licorice rope, which he has the kitten restrained with. Although the kitten, Duchess, is clearly just a housecat the warping chaos of the wyld zone has made her bigger, like a tiger. The players try to negotiate for the release of the cat, but aren’t certain what they’re going to do about the size change.
The players ask about the cat’s health & the Faerie insists that all of the wyld’s mutating effects have been blocked by the leash. The only thing that someone wearing the leash can have mutate is their size. Anything else is blocked by the leash. Since the cat’s always been in the leash all they have to worry about is how big this little fluff ball is going to get.
After some negotiation the players agree to do a job for the Faerie. They have a few weeks to complete the job, then they have to come back on a specific day to get the cat. The players know they’ll complete the job quickly, but the Faerie won’t let them back in except on that specific day. The players reluctantly agree, & decide to use the remaining time to research ways to deal with the size change. One of the players actually spends a huge amount of money on a massive wagon-sized ball of rope to try to lure the cat with.
The party figures out they have two options to fix the cat. First, there’s a spell where you can swap the appearance of a living thing with a statue. You have to do this out of combat while the living target remains still, but you can do this to anything that will sit still long enough. The spell ignores the target’s size & ignores conservation of mass; the target & the statue literally swap their appearances, including their size. The party can use a life-sized statue of Duchess & swap her with her own smaller appearance. The second option is Dani’s island of stability. That ability has upgrades. Dani can learn to undo mutations eventually… in about five game sessions of X.P.
The party immediately figures out that one of these options is way better. They can spend a bunch of money to have their party’s crafter make the cat statue from solid gold, & when they swap the two they’ll have a normal-sized housecat & a huge cat statue made of gold. What could do wrong? More than one member of the party can influence animals with magical effects, so they are confident she’ll sit still. The Storyteller confirms multiple times that, “yes, the spell really does work that way.” The party figures out they don't have enough money to make the statue... you know, the one that has to be made of solid gold for the spell to do what they want.
The necromancer, who has a liege that is a lich ruling over ghosts in the underworld, has been learning necromancy & getting vague support from his master. The necromancer spins the scheme to their liege as a chance to get a desirable result, & the liege decides to give him enough money to try to buy the gold he needs, but there's a catch. The necromancer has to make certain the liege will be happy with whatever outcome they get.
The next game session the players go back to the Faerie on the agreed-upon day. The cat has continued to mutate. True to what the Faerie said, Duchess only has one mutation: she is now much larger. The Large Mutation is Stackable, & gives one size increase, a health improvement, & +1 Stamina every time you apply it, with no upper limit. The drawback to balance this is supposed to be the inconvenience of your new increased size. Duchess has Large x24, giving this housecat as much health as a couple elephants, plural. Nose to butt she’s roughly the size of a city bus.
The party is completely fine with this. Dollar signs are practically appearing in their eyes. The party surrounds Duchess within their radius of safety ability & she gets unleashed. They walk her back out of the wyld zone…
… and now the city guards see this monster cat emerging from the realm of Faeries & pure chaos that mutates humans into unspeakable horrors… & immediately raise the alarm. They start attacking with spears & arrows.
Cat is spooked.
The cat isn’t going to calm down until there’s no pointy stick poking at it. The party decide to get the cat out of the city safely. The city guards are not negotiating; they’re in panic mode trying to kill the monster from the wyld zone.
Cue a game-session long effort to keep Duchess from knocking over buildings & trying to get her out of the city.
The necromancer decides to use an undead to spook the Duchess & herd her down the city’s streets, hoping she can jump or climb over the city wall. The other players are herding Duchess like a head of steer. Pachiru turns into an animal to try to talk to Duchess, but the majority of the work winds up being done by others. They do eventually get Duchess out of the city.
Pachiru’s player has also been looking at their abilities, & they’ve noticed that in about five game sessions they’ll have the X.P. to make anything into an intelligent familiar. Game session runs long while the party debate this option.
The character that wants the familiar does not want to hear about downsides. The party eventually take a “wait and see” approach instead of casting the spell & giving the cat back to the little girl.
The next game session the players are relocating to another city where they won’t be associated with what just happened.
As they travel to the new city, called The Lap, the Storyteller begins pushing them on how they’re going to feed their new pet. Pachiru figures out that there is no way to feed Duchess so he decides to just “make her an outside cat” who is expected to fend for herself & obediently return to him at the start of each game session. There are still party members who want to turn Duchess back to normal with the statue technique.
Yes, for the next several sessions the Storyteller kept bringing up the issue of feeding the cat. The local farmers offer the party a quest at one point to go kill the monster cat that’s been eating farmers. Instead of taking the cat back to the little girl Pachiru insists that he’ll teach Duchess to swim in the ocean & go catch fish to feed himself. This is, again, a housecat he’s trying to get to become an aquatic hunter. The city called The Lap has a fairly ineffective government, but they have to shut down the port at one point because of the cat swimming around in the harbor.
By now the necromancer is spinning the man-eating-cat to his liege as a terror campaign that is being carried out in service to the liege. They're sending horrified ghosts to the underworld where the liege can enslave them & the rampant bloodshed kind of abstractly "serves the Void." The liege is patient & decides to hold off on punishing his student.
Over the course of this Dani has been quietly working toward the upgraded ability that lets her undo wyld mutations. Meanwhile two new players have expressed interest in joining the group. (Ragara the politician & another shape-changer). The Storyteller wants them to catch up in X.P. so they’re playing side-sessions with just the new players. Both of these new players focused on social abilities & are trying to secretly take over the city government.
The Lap is a published city for the game & is supposed to be pretty easy to get short-term control of. The government is designed that way on purpose both in out of character. Once the new player Ragara has control the city’s officials accept their new master, but they’re also kind of feeling out Ragara. The officials start approaching their new ruler & asking how Mr. Ragara would like to handle certain policy problems.
“Satrap Ragara, what do you intend to do about the military garrison’s controversial merit-based promotion policy?”
“Keep it.”
“Satrap Ragara, what do you intend to do about the recent unexplained deaths of your predecessors?”
“We are already investigating. Bring anything that comes to you directly to me.”
“Satrap Ragara, what do you intend to do about the cat that has been eating the farmers?”
“The what?”
Ragara decided to go see the cat for himself & found out this massive cat had been going around the fields that surrounded the city of The Lap. When farmers were available, the cat would eat them. Soldiers were constantly trying to fend the cat off, but the cat was fast enough to outpace the soldiers.
Ragara decided to hunt the cat down & kill it. At the end of the session Ragara had climbed onto the cat’s back & was about to start attacking.
Next game session we started with the rest of the party showing up. Pachiru senses the cat in danger with his familiar ability & Dani uses a travel spell to bring the party to the cat combat. Pachiru immediately freaks out & launches himself after Ragara.
The party start to argue at the table about what to do so the Storyteller tells them to have the argument in-character. At least one of the players wants to stop the fight so they can turn the cat into gold over Pachiru’s objections. After a bit of argument the party decides on the bold “wait & see method.”
After several rounds the party decides they can’t let Pachiru & Ragara kill each other. Dani walks up, starts shouting at the two of them like they’re children who need to be spanked, & instead of hitting either of them uses her new mutation-removal ability to put the cat back to normal.
Everybody turns around & starts spinning the events to whoever they care about.
Ragara tells the city government that he was the capable warrior who killed the cat.
Pachiru uses the events to extort some favors from Ragara.
Dani uses the events as a lesson for Pachiru about working with the party.
The necromancer spins this all as a clever scheme to sow division among these easily-manipulated adventurers who now trust him more than each other. He also makes a point of enslaving as many of the ghosts of the farmers that were killed as he can manage. "... and I know how you hate Faeries. We're talking about going back & killing that Faerie next."
The other party members sit tight & eventually use "that time with the cat" to get some favors from Pachiru.

2023.05.27 05:54 Zalethon [Windows PC][Late 90s-Early 00s] Doom-like fps with map editor from maze-game compilation disk

Platform(s): Windows PC, probably 98 or XP
Genre: First Person Shooter level editoplayer
Estimated year of release: Most likely early 2000s w/regards to the compliation disk it was on, maybe late '90s
Graphics/art style: Doom-like, raytraced+partly sprite-based; the characters had that 2D-cutout look where they would always face you IIRC. walls were usually grey, monsters were all robots. Other textures and colors could be applied, and lighting. If you put walls at certain angles, you could easily create graphical glitches.
Notable characters: Short bipedal gun thing, android thing; there might have been a stealth jet thing. There was not a ton of variety in mobs, and I don't recall that you could see your own character at all.
Notable gameplay mechanics: The most unique aspect was the level editor, which was almost all there was to the game; I don't have any recollection of predesigned levels. It was a CAD-like interface, draw lines on a grid to represent walls, set wall and room properties, make elevators and doors, place mobs and items including keys. There was no tutorial, you had to rely on the manual via the help menu.
Other details: - This game was written in C; the source code was available if you wrote to the developer. - I think it might have been called "mazecraft?" or something like that, but I can not for the life of me find reference to it - Obtained on a disc called something like "1000 Amazing Mazes;" this compilation had mostly shareware and shovelware. The disk also had a version of Kye, and a puzzle-platformer with a red ball character menaced by plants.

2023.05.27 05:08 FlyerandD Ghosts of the Deep: Catalyst/Collectibles/Secret Chests picture guide

Here is a picture guide on how to get all the calcified fragment collectibles and secret chests, as well as how to get the catalyst (you get increased exotic drop rate for completing the catalyst steps, if you don't have the exotic). Shoutout to Not the Bees and Tuni (당근 in the pictures) for helping find everything and get pictures.
Catalyst: https://imgur.com/a/e1UOy0m
Note: In order to be able to interact with the dead ghost piles, someone in your fireteam must have the exotic!

Fragment #1:

There is a cave in the first encounter hidden behind some trees (entrance pictured in imgur link). Follow the underground section to find the fragment.
Cave entrance: https://imgur.com/a/d8CwDIU
Fragment #1: https://imgur.com/a/OvMn6ju

Catalyst Statue #1:

Following the first encounter, head back to the cave you found fragment #1 in and continue to the end of the underground section to find a pile of dead ghosts. Interact with the pile and take the buff you get to a thrall statue, which is located behind the entrance of the cave when looking straight at it (pictured in imgur link). A lightbearer acolyte will spawn nearby with a shield. To break the shield you must kill the wizards and stand in the green circle that they drop and shoot at the acolyte. You will need to kill the correct wizard to get the pool to drop. There will be a large hive rune in the air (like in salvage) and you must match it with the smaller runes that are located next to each wizard. If you kill the correct one a green pool will drop and the shield will be damageable from within the pool. Damage the acolyte until the health gate and he will move on to the 2nd catalyst statue.

Fragment #2:

Continue into the complex and drop down the area with the large turbine. Jump through a broken grate on the wall but instead of continuing to the right, go to the very top left cubby. The fragment will be in the back right corner of the cubby.
Fragment #2 entrance: https://imgur.com/a/1N5Sdid
Fragment #2: https://imgur.com/a/zTXGOCc

Fragment #3:

You will enter a room with purple light. The 3rd fragment is up and to the left.
Fragment #3: https://imgur.com/a/zLtYEUy

Fragment #4:

You will drop down and come into a room with several platforms rotating a pillar. The fragment is on the pillar. You can reach it by standing on the upper moving platform and holding the interact button.
Fragment #4: https://imgur.com/a/1cbL0Iq

Fragment #5:

This will be underwater. You will drop down to a floor with 2 broken doors and orange lighting. One of the doors is cracked open enough to fit through and the fragment is inside.
Fragment #5 approach: https://imgur.com/a/DeorERS
Fragment #5: https://imgur.com/a/2s5aDU2

Fragment #6:

This will be underwater. You will drop to a platform with a fan that will push you upward into a room with air. Continue past the fan and the fragment will be on one of the outer corners of the platform.
Fragment #6: https://imgur.com/a/kElS24n

Fragment #7:

This will be underwater. You will drop to a floor with a broken window. Usually you would go out the window and off the ledge but instead go outside and hug the wall to the left of the broken window. the fragment will be about 1/3 the way around
Fragment #7 (inside): https://imgur.com/a/9wyb3Tf

Fragment #8:

This will be underwater, but you can see it from a room with air in it. This will be when you reach the ocean floor for the 1st time. when you drop down into the water again there will be a light to the left. The fragment is next to the light.
Fragment #8 (window view): https://imgur.com/a/sCwmFw6
Fragment #8 (from drop): https://imgur.com/a/SCPvEnT

Catalyst Statue #2:

You will come to an area filled with air with many enemies. Kill the enemies and the thrall statue will be located on the left wall, on the way to the next underwater section (pictured in imgur link). The dead ghost pile will be located in the top right corner in the next air pocket and you must grab the buff and return back to the statue after interacting with the pile. The return path is shown in an imgur link. When you deposit the buff, the lightbearer acolyte will spawn again. Do the same mechanic as the 1st catalyst statue to break the shield. Damage the acolyte until the health gate and he will move on to the 3rd catalyst statue.

Fragment #9:

This will be underwater. Following the air pocket with the thrall statue, descend until there is a larger landing. If you reach the next air pocket you have gone too far. Turn to the right and enter the dark cave. The fragment will be in the right corner of the cave.
Fragment #9 cave entrance: https://imgur.com/a/KiYyPnm

Fragment #10:

This will be in the hive ship. Following the part when you slide down a hole, there will be a small pipe with water flowing out of it. Go into the pipe and the fragment will be behind the grate.

Fragment #10: https://imgur.com/a/QWXIQok

Fragment #11:

This will be in the hive ship. Following the 2nd encounter you will get to a room with some enemies and a large grate on the left side. The fragment is on the other side of the grate.
Fragment #11: https://imgur.com/a/mZpYERD

Secret Chest #2:

This will be in the hive ship. You will enter a very large room with a couple shriekers and several wizards. 3/4 the way through the room there will be a large ogre. Kill the ogre and go onto the roof over it and the chest should be there.

Catalyst Statue #3:

Backtrack to the beginning of the room that secret chest #2 is in. Turn to the right from the entrance and the dead ghost pile will be next to a broken lantern. Interact with the ghost pile and run the buff to the end of the room, where there will be a thrall statue. repeat the mechanic used for the 2nd catalyst statue and kill the lightbearer acolyte. The catalyst will be dropped once the acolyte is dead.
Dead ghosts #3: https://imgur.com/a/PzEfMmM
Thrall statue #3: https://imgur.com/a/L84QCF7

Fragment #12:

Following the final boss, enter the lightbearer acolyte room and there will be a circle and taken king symbol that you must line up like in the encounter. Once you do that, a small opening underneath the taken king symbol will open and the fragment will be inside the next room.

Fragment #12: https://imgur.com/a/fKXa92H

Edit 1: Fragment #4 is not underwater
Edit 2: Updated Catalyst statue #1 to include the mechanic
Edit 3: Updated the intro to say that someone in the fireteam must have the exotic to be able to activate the dead ghosts

2023.05.27 00:51 himuheilandsack Help me find an eerie (children's?) book i fondly remember.

Hey Everyone
Memories of a picture book that i used to look at for hours as a kid have recently been coming up before my inner eye. I am unable to find it via google, as i have no clue what it is called and descriptions haven't worked out. I would love to look at it again. So even though chances are slim, maybe someone knows what i'm talking about by reading my description:
As i said, it is a picture book. In german, we would call it a "Wimmelbuch". The translation i found for that was "hidden picture puzzle". So basically, the art in the book spans both pages and is quite big. You can explore and discover new things every time you look at it. With every turn of a page, the situation subtly develops, but you stay in the same place (in this case a hotel).
The book was about a "horror hotel". The staff (at least parts of it?) of the hotel were mythical creatures, as well as (parts of?) the guests. It got darker the further you got. For example you had werewolves transforming and losing it, you had the chef cooking up the most vile looking soup. Mummies were roaming the hallways, body parts were falling off and so on. It grew more and more chaotic, as the special features of the different monsters would take over.
The hotel was set close to a river. The river is important for the development of subplots.
The perspective was kind of a tilted birdseye view. You would see into the hotel (cross section) from an elevated point.
I remember it to be defined by grey and green colors, but that might not be accurate.
So, i know that's not much, thanks to anyone giving it a shot.

2023.05.26 22:02 maceparks Looking for thoughts on my opening chapter. I appreciate any criticism and need outside eyes. Thank you in advance for anyone who helps.

It should be raining. The sky should reflect this tragedy. Scythe’s hands shook. His body shook. This was wrong, all wrong. This wasn’t how it was meant to go. He’d planned to save her. He was going to get Sarah and the girl out of there, but he just hadn’t had the chance. Now, gods, now it was too late. Was it? There was a way. There had to be.
She lay on the floor in front of him, the cold embrace of death heavy about her. Her nightgown, grey and caked with dirt, made her look a statue carved from the ground. No rise and fall of her chest. No brushing the hair from her face or sly smiles in the moonlight. That was gone. Gone again, for a second time. The first time, her first death, he’d brought her back so easily, so quickly.
The second. Was it possible to do it a second time?
He had to try. For her. For that little girl. He closed his eyes, seeing the room in his mind. Her room. Third story of the building. The curtains slowly blowing in the window he’d come through. Sarah was alive just the day before. Marree told him she’d died. He hadn’t believed her. He couldn’t believe her.
Yet, there she was. Curled around her daughter in bed, arms wrapped around the little girl, completely still. Her daughter refused to leave the room. Marree said she gave up trying after she snuck in the third time. It had only been a few hours. There was still time, but he’d have to move fast. He reinforced his body, ignoring the pain that lanced through him as the magic hardened his bones and strengthened his muscles. She was light under his enhanced strength. He slipped her arms off her daughter as softly as he could.
The little girl stirred, the skin around her eyes red and blotchy. She shivered without her mother’s embrace. Scythe felt his heart break again. The girl looked so frail. He would come back for her. He would save her from this hell, he just had to get her mother to safety first. He would come back for her. Sarah and him both.
He opened his eyes, fumbling for the sack at his waist. He pulled the string and emptied the contents onto the floor. Precious jewels of various sizes clinked on the ground, a beautiful array of colors against the old stone floor. The entirety of his stash gathered in haste. He picked one, a diamond of considerable size, and held it firm in his hand. With his other, he pulled down her gown and placed a palm on her chest.
This had to work. He’d spend every source he had to bring her back. He pulled the energy from the jewel, feeling the age and magic inside of it stream out. It flowed into him as the diamond began to dissolve into black smoke, a thin trail inking towards the ceiling. The energy went through his arm, through his chest, and out his other hand and into the woman he loved more than anything. He felt the energy disperse through her body.
With a shaky breath, he bent down and put his ear on her chest. Nothing. No heartbeat. No breath. Oh, gods, was it too late? Was it impossible?
He picked up a handful of the jewels, pressing them in his hands in a white-knuckle grip. He noticed a few left on the ground and pushed them between his fingers, holding every precious stone he had left in his hands. It was all or nothing. If this wasn’t enough, nothing would be. He had to try.
He bent down and kissed her forehead, cold and clammy against his lips, then leaned down to her ear. “Please. Come back to me,” he whispered. “For your daughter. For me.”
Then he pulled all of the energy that bound those old, compressed, beautiful stones in his hand through his body, and into hers. The pain of so much magic flowing through him forced his teeth together so hard he thought they might shatter. But he bore the pain. For her. Anything for her.
The energy flowed from him, dispersing into her body. As every ounce of energy in the stones flowed through him a cloud of black, inky smoke, oozed out of his fingers and filled the ceiling of the room above him. He dropped his head to her chest and listened. There was nothing. Silence. Despair hit like a wave. Tears began falling from his cheeks. He sobbed into her cold chest, holding his head against her skin, apologizing with his entire being.
Her heart thumped against his ear.

Any feedback, even if its, "That was great" or "Nah hot garbage" is appreciated.

2023.05.26 18:46 M_Tootles Sweetrobin's Doll Isn't the Only "Giant" In The Snow Castle (Spoilers Extended)

(TL;DR in the conclusion at the bottom. But David Lynch fans will miss the Blue Velvet clue if they do that.)
Earlier this week on the ASOIAF subreddit, FROTHYxCOFFEE asked about the identity of the "giant" in the Ghost of High Heart's seemingly prophetic vision in ASOS Arya VIII:
"I dreamt a wolf howling in the rain, but no one heard his grief," the dwarf woman was saying. "I dreamt such a clangor I thought my head might burst, drums and horns and pipes and screams, but the saddest sound was the little bells. I dreamt of a maid at a feast with purple serpents in her hair, venom dripping from their fangs. And later I dreamt that maid again, slaying a savage giant in a castle built of snow."
The indefatigable BaelBard responded by providing what they called "the popular belief" (which was indeed proved "popular" when their summary comment got 300+ upvotes): that although the prophecy is apparently fulfilled by Sansa tearing the head off Sweetrobin's doll after he uses it to smash her snow castle Winterfell, thus figuratively "slaying" a figurative "giant"—
"Winterfell is the seat of House Stark," Sansa told her husband-to-be. "The great castle of the north."
"It's not so great." The boy knelt before the gatehouse. "Look, here comes a giant to knock it down." He stood his doll in the snow and moved it jerkily. "Tromp tromp I'm a giant, I'm a giant," he chanted. "Ho ho ho, open your gates or I'll mash them and smash them." Swinging the doll by the legs, he knocked the top off one gatehouse tower and then the other.
It was more than Sansa could stand. "Robert, stop that." Instead he swung the doll again, and a foot of wall exploded. She grabbed for his hand but she caught the doll instead. There was a loud ripping sound as the thin cloth tore. Suddenly she had the doll's head, Robert had the legs and body, and the rag-and-sawdust stuffing was spilling in the snow. (ASOS Sansa VII)
—this interpretation is "a red herring". The (demonstrably) "popular belief" is that because this is a minor, irrelevant event compared to the Ghost of High Heart's other prophecies, surely there must be a bigger pay-off.
That bigger pay-off, it's popularly believed, is that the "savage giant" Sansa will slay is Littlefinger, where Petyr 'is' the giant since his grandfather's sigil was "a grey stone head with fiery eyes" representing the Titan of Braavos — a kind of giant (the rationale goes):
The device painted on the shield was one Sansa did not know; a grey stone head with fiery eyes, upon a light green field. "My grandfather's shield," Petyr explained when he saw her gazing at it. "His own father was born in Braavos and came to the Vale as a sellsword in the hire of Lord Corbray, so my grandfather took the head of the Titan as his sigil when he was knighted."
"It's very fierce," said Sansa.
"Rather too fierce, for an amiable fellow like me," said Petyr. "I much prefer my mockingbird." (ASOS Sansa VI)
It's generally theorized that this will take place in Winterfell, since Sansa's snow castle is meant to be Winterfell, although some say it will happen in the Eyrie, which Sansa calls "a castle made of snow":
The Eyrie shrank above them. … A honeycomb made of ice, Alayne thought, a castle made of snow. (AFFC Alayne II)
I know many people believe Littlefinger will surely "get his" at Sansa's hands, and in saying what I'm going to say, I am not saying he necessarily won't. Prophecies can have multiple payoffs.
Nonetheless, I have to point out that when the "popular belief" focuses on and (probably rightly) dismisses the idea that Sansa tearing the doll's head off in the snow castle Winterfell could be Sansa "slaying the savage giant in a castle built of snow", it overlooks a more subtle reading of the doll-and-snow castle incident per which it is part of a far more significant pay-off for the Ghost of High Heart's prophecy.

"I'm a giant, I'm a giant"

I submit that if the Ghost of High Heart's vision of a maid "slaying a savage giant in a castle built of snow" is indeed about the doll-and-snow-castle incident in the Eyrie, it surely isn't about Sansa figuratively "slaying" Sweetrobin's doll by ripping its head off, as most seem to assume when dismissing this as the possible 'pay-off', but rather about Sansa "slaying" Sweetrobin himself, because Sweetrobin is, in that very moment, 'coded' as a figurative "savage giant in a castle built of snow".
He's damned by his own words
"Tromp tromp I'm a giant, I'm a giant," [Sweetrobin] chanted. "Ho ho ho, open your gates or I'll mash them and smash them."
and actions:
Lord Robert's mouth trembled. "You killlllllllled him," he wailed. Then he began to shake. It started with no more than a little shivering, but within a few short heartbeats he had collapsed across the castle, his limbs flailing about violently.
Thus the doll-and-snow-castle incident establishes Lord Robert as a figurative "savage giant in a castle built of snow", not just because he declares "I'm a giant, I'm a giant," but because he 'is' a giant relative to the size of the "castle built of snow" he is physically "in" when he "collapsed across" it — i.e. he 'is' a giant in the exact same way his doll 'is' a giant, per the popular interpretation of these events that is generally at once accepted as 'correct' (in that it's intended) but dismissed as a sneaky red herring.
Thus the Ghost's prophecy may well be about Sansa killing Sweetrobin by (accidentally) poisoning him with sweetsleep ("the gentlest of poisons") to keep him calm during a feast, in keeping with the prophecy's referring to Sansa when she's "slaying a savage giant" as "that maid again", which points back to how she's first described, as a venomous "maid at a feast":
"I dreamt of a maid at a feast with purple serpents in her hair, venom dripping from their fangs. And later I dreamt that maid again, slaying a savage giant in a castle built of snow."
Note that it is apt indeed that when Lord Robert is established as a figurative "savage giant in a castle built of snow", he is having a shaking fit, given that it would be the need to quiet such a shaking fit that would lead Sansa to (inadvertently, presumably) "slay" him.

Slaying By Poison At A Feast

The foreshadowing for Sansa poisoning and thereby slaying the boy who was for a moment "a savage giant in a castle built of snow" is all there, and rather blatant:
"Perhaps a pinch of sweetsleep in his milk, have you tried that? Just a pinch, to calm him and stop his wretched shaking."
"A pinch?" The apple in the maester's throat moved up and down as he swallowed. "One small pinch . . . perhaps, perhaps. Not too much, and not too often, yes, I might try . . ."
"A pinch," Lord Petyr said, "before you bring him forth to meet the lords." (AFFC Alayne I)
[T]he burden of getting Sweetrobin safely down the mountain fell on her. "Give his lordship a cup of sweetmilk," [Sansa] told the maester. "That will stop him from shaking on the journey down."
"He had a cup not three days past," Colemon objected.
"And wanted another last night, which you refused him."
"It was too soon. My lady, you do not understand. As I've told the Lord Protector, a pinch of sweetsleep will prevent the shaking, but it does not leave the flesh, and in time . . ."
"Time will not matter if his lordship has a shaking fit and falls off the mountain. If my father were here, I know he would tell you to keep Lord Robert calm at all costs."
"I try, my lady, yet his fits grow ever more violent, and his blood is so thin I dare not leech him any more. Sweetsleep . . . you are certain he was not bleeding from the nose?"
"He was sniffling," Alayne admitted, "but I saw no blood."
"I must speak to the Lord Protector. This feast … is that wise, I wonder, after the strain of the descent?"
"It will not be a large feast," she assured him. "No more than forty guests. Lord Nestor and his household, the Knight of the Gate, a few lesser lords and their retainers …"
"Lord Robert mislikes strangers, you know that, and there will be drinking, noise … music. Music frightens him."
"Music soothes him," she corrected, "the high harp especially. It's singing he can’t abide, since Marillion killed his mother." Alayne had told the lie so many times that she remembered it that way more oft than not; the other seemed no more than a bad dream that sometimes troubled her sleep. "Lord Nestor will have no singers at the feast, only flutes and fiddles for the dancing." What would she do when the music began to play? It was a vexing question, to which her heart and head gave different answers. Sansa loved to dance, but Alayne . . . "Just give him a cup of the sweetmilk before we go, and another at the feast, and there should be no trouble." (AFFC Alayne II)
It's unclear whether that feast ever happens, as they don't reach the Gates of the Moon until most are asleep. But Sweetrobin definitely attends a(nother) verbatim "feast" at which, Sansa presumes, he is dosed with more sweetsleep:
As they waited for the music to resume, Alayne glanced at the dais, where Lord Robert sat staring at them. Please, she prayed, don't let him start to twitch and shake. Not here. Not now. Maester Coleman would have made certain that he drank a strong dose of sweetmilk before the feast, but even so. (TWOW Alayne I)
We have not yet seen the end of that feast, but assuming Robert survives, there are sure to be more feasts soon. After all, that's just the welcome feast for the tourney. Doubtless there will be more feasting, and something tells me Sweetrobin and his sweet-tooth for sweetmilk—
"He had a cup not three days past," Colemon objected.
"And wanted another last night, which you refused him." (AFFC Alayne II)
No matter what you offered him, Robert always wanted more. (AFFC Alayne II)
—won't make it:
"If Robert were to die . . ."
Petyr arched an eyebrow. "When Robert dies. Our poor brave Sweetrobin is such a sickly boy, it is only a matter of time. When Robert dies, Harry the Heir becomes Lord Harrold, Defender of the Vale and Lord of the Eyrie. (AFFC Alayne II)

What About Littlefinger?

Some may think this sounds plausible enough, but that surely the Ghost's vision has to be about Littlefinger, given that his sigil is 'really' the Titan of Braavos.
I see two potential problems with this reading. They're not necessarily fatal, but they're not nothing. Certainly they're enough to consider that the doll-and-snow-castle incident may be at the core of this, after all, albeit not in the consequence-free way so easily and popularly dismissed.

Problem 1: Petyr Baelish 'Is' A Mockingbird, Not The Titan of Braavos

First, Petyr's grandfather's/father's sigil simply isn't his sigil. It's hanging up on the wall in a tower that seems more his father's than his own (consider the age of the servants) and he explicitly disavows it, calling it "my grandfather's shield" and saying the sigil is…
"Rather too fierce for an amiable fellow like me. … I much prefer my mockingbird."
People in Westeros might 'be' their sigils—
"You Westerosi are all the same. You sew some beast upon a scrap of silk, and suddenly you are all lions or dragons or eagles." (ADWD Tyrion I)
—but Petyr Baelish's sigil simply isn't a representation of the Titan of Braavos: It's a mockingbird. Making him if anything a figurative mockingbird.
(Petyr's disavowals of his paternal lineage dovetails with Petyr arguably seeming to care more about his mother than his father. [He names "Alayne" after his mother, but says nothing much about his father save to mock him for bringing Petyr to a hermit to have him tell his future when he was a boy.] Full disclosure: I happen to think Petyr's mother's lineage is very, very, very significant, so the idea that he cares about his maternal bloodline than his father's dovetails with my preconceived notions. But nevertheless.)

Problem 2: The Titan Is Not A "Savage Giant"

Second, the Titan of Braavos isn't "a savage giant". Indeed, it's neither "savage" nor a "giant".
It's not a "giant" because giants aren't titans. And not just because are titans and giants are totally different things in classical (Greek) mythology. The bigger problem is that titans and giants are cleary wildly different things diegetically (i.e. in-world).
A titan, in the world of ASOIAF, truly is a giant man:
The whole city is built in a lagoon on a hundred little islands, and they have a titan there, a stone man hundreds of feet high. (AFFC Samwell II)
A giant, in the world of ASOIAF (as contrasted to the "giants" of Old Nan's stories), is something else entirely:
In Old Nan's stories, giants were outsized men who lived in colossal castles, fought with huge swords, and walked about in boots a boy could hide in. These were something else, more bearlike than human, and as wooly as the mammoths they rode. Seated, it was hard to say how big they truly were. Ten feet tall maybe, or twelve, Jon thought. Maybe fourteen, but no taller. Their sloping chests might have passed for those of men, but their arms hung down too far, and their lower torsos looked half again as wide as their upper. Their legs were shorter than their arms, but very thick, and they wore no boots at all; their feet were broad splayed things, hard and horny and black. Neckless, their huge heavy heads thrust forward from between their shoulder blades, and their faces were squashed and brutal. Rats' eyes no larger than beads were almost lost within folds of horny flesh, but they snuffled constantly, smelling as much as they saw. (ASOS Jon II)
Indeed, while Old Nan's stories get this wrong, there seem to be stories told to children that understand this, judging by Shireen's reaction to Wun Wun:
Princess Shireen's eyes went wide as dinner plates. "He's a giant! A real true giant, like from the stories. But why does he talk so funny?" (ADWD Jon IX)
(Perhaps Shireen heard her stories from Cressen.)
It's true that in Old Nan's stories — whose version of a giant is totally debunked by reality, remember — the Titan of Braavos is a verbatim "giant" in that same "giant man" sense:
The Titan of Braavos. Old Nan had told them stories of the Titan back in Winterfell. He was a giant as tall as a mountain, and whenever Braavos stood in danger he would wake with fire in his eyes, his rocky limbs grinding and groaning as he waded out into the sea to smash the enemies.
And that much, at least, fits with the Titan of Braavos as he actually appears.
However, where the Titan of Braavos of Old Nan's fiction is clearly savage, per se, like the "savage giant" in the Ghost of High Heart's vision—
"The Braavosi feed him on the juicy pink flesh of little highborn girls," Nan would end, and Sansa would give a stupid squeak. (AFFC Arya I)
—the idea that the Titan of Braavos is truly a "savage giant" is once again not born out by the reality of an inert statue (even if you accept that the Titan 'is' a "giant" of sorts, even if only in a figurative sense). Maester Luwin was right, at least as regards giants and titans:
But Maester Luwin said the Titan was only a statue, and Old Nan's stories were only stories.
Indeed, given the banking industry, commercial orientation, and anti-slavery policies of Braavos, the Titan of Braavos is more like a sign of civilization than savagery by Planetosi standards: a kind of Colossus of Rhodes. Even its green hair, which might say "Incredible Hulk" to us, hardly has "savage" connotations on Planetos, where the brother of the Archon of Tyrosh has a green beard.
In sum: People might 'be' their sigils, but (a) Littlefinger 'isn't' the Titan of Braavos, and (b) even if he were, the Titan of Braavos isn't properly "a savage giant" unless you squint.
That said, make no mistake: you always have to squint a bit when it comes to prophecy, and I am thus in no way saying that Littlefinger is deductively ruled out as the referent of the Ghost's prophecy. I'm just saying there are good reasons to think he might not be.

More On Sweetrobin The "Savage Giant", Featuring A Reference To David Lynch's Blue Velvet That Supports This Reading

I want to close by drawing attention to a few more things that put the whiff of "savage giant" on and around Sweetrobin.
First, there's the simple fact that Robert lives in a castle in the clouds—
Seven towers, Ned had told her, like white daggers thrust into the belly of the sky, so high you can stand on the parapets and look down on the clouds. (AGOT Cateyn VI)
—reached by a perilous climb, which clearly recalls the castle in the clouds in which the giant abides in Jack and the Beanstalk.
Indeed, that climb is also giant-coded, in its way:
"Sweetrobin," she said gently, "the descent will be ever so jolly, you'll see."
Jolly, a la the [Jolly Green Giant].
Second, as Lord of the Vale and the Eyrie, Robert has dominion over the Giant's Lance (the mountain the Eyrie is built on), which can be seen as 'coding' him as "the Giant" in question.
Third, recall that young Lord Robert throws his chamber pot at Maester Colemon and shatters it (which is hardly a civilized thing to do, and arguably savage). In so doing, he creates a scene that recalls another scene caused by a (different) figurative 'savage giant': Shagga is a verbatim "savage" and a figurative 'giant' — he is "massive" per AGOT Tyrion VI, and his "hand was so big he could have crushed the maester's skull like an eggshell had he squeezed" per ACOK Tyrion VI — and he smashes in Maester Pycelle's door and causes him to piss everywhere:
Roaring, Shagga leapt forward. Pycelle shrieked and wet the bed, urine spraying in all directions as he tried to scramble back out of reach. (ibid.)
Setting aside the 'rhyme' Sweetrobin throwing his chamber pot sets up between himself and Shagga the savage giant (thereby suggesting that Sweetrobin, too, is a figurative savage giant), consider the language from the aftermath of Sweetrobin chucking his chamber pot:
"Might I let some sun in?"
"No. The light hurts my eyes. Come to bed, Alayne."
She went to the windows anyway, edging around the broken chamber pot. She could smell it better than she saw it. (AFFC Alayne II)
The noted verbiage 'just so happens' to be tightly reminiscent of what we're told about true giants, their squinty rat eyes, and their "smelling as much as they saw":
Rats' eyes no larger than beads were almost lost within folds of horny flesh, but they snuffled constantly, smelling as much as they saw. (ASOS Jon II)
Note the sympatico double entendre wordplay as well: Robert saying "Come to bed, Alayne" vs. the "horny flesh" of the giants.
And note that true giants "snuffled constantly". Who does that sound like if not Sweetrobin?
Alayne slipped into the darkened bedchamber. "It's only me, Sweetrobin."
Someone sniffled in the darkness. "Are you alone?" (Alayne II)
She went to the windows anyway, edging around the broken chamber pot. She could smell it better than she saw it. "I shan't open them very wide. Only enough to see my Sweetrobin's face."
He sniffled. "If you must."
The curtains were of plush blue velvet¹.
"I don't love her. She's just the mule girl." Robert sniffled. (AFFC Alayne II)
"He was sniffling," Alayne admitted, "but I saw no blood." (AFFC Alayne II)
Note 1: Those "plush blue velvet" curtains — combined with Sweetrobin's latent 'horniness' for "Alayne" — should jump off the page as a further reference to giant-like "snuffling" to anyone who's seen David Lynch's 1986 masterpiece Blue Velvet, a film in which the main villain Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper) keeps a singer prisoner (a la Petyr holding Marillion prisoner!) in an always dark(!) apartment, infamously huffs gas out of a mask in a 'snuffling' fashion, gets horri-comically horny, stuffs his mouth with her plush blue velvet robe, which he parts like curtains before calling her "mommy" (regarding which, recall that Robert asks Sansa "Are you my mother now?" while laying his head between her breasts in AFFC Sansa I) and raping her. Literal curtains are featured prominently in the film as well, including in the singer's dark apartment. See here, and see the wikipedia page devoted to the character: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Booth_(Blue_Velvet).
For what it's worth, I believe GRRM is clearly a giant (har!) Lynch fan and that ASOIAF is stuffed full of Lynch references. A book about Lynch [is visible] on a shelf in the background of a GRRM video interview. It's no surprise: Lynch directed Dune, and Twin Peaks revolutionized television when GRRM was writing TV. I actually have a huge essay written up about the what I see as the massive influence of Twin Peaks on ASOIAF. Apropos of the topic at hand, I'll just note that the Eyrie is full of "winches", and that GRRM gives us a Lord "Wynch" — it rhymes with Lynch — who is the first supporter of the BOB-like villain Euron and whose first name just so happens to be Waldon, a la Waldo, the bird that plays a key role in Twin Peaks.
Anyway, the point here, again, is simply that blue velvet curtains remind us of some of the most famous "snuffling" in the history of cinema, and thus further hint that Sweetrobin is, indeed, a figurative 'giant'.
End Footnote
By the way, Robert abiding in darkness—
Alayne slipped into the darkened bedchamber. "It's only me, Sweetrobin."
Someone sniffled in the darkness. "Are you alone?" (Alayne II)
—sets him up as akin to Old Nan's version of giants as they appear in a story—
[Arya] remembered a story Old Nan had told once, about a man imprisoned in a dark castle by evil giants. He was very brave and smart and he tricked the giants and escaped . . . but no sooner was he outside the castle than the Others took him, and drank his hot red blood. (ACOK Arya III)
—that sounds like one of the stories Sweetrobin asks Alayne to read to him moments after she enters his "darkened bedchamber":
"I don't want food," the little lord said, in a reedy, petulant voice. "I'm going to stay in bed today. You could read to me if you want."
"It is too dark in here for reading." The heavy curtains drawn across the windows made the bedchamber black as night. (AFFC Alayne II)
Finally, as many have noticed, Robert's preference for the darkness, his pale skin, his red eyes, and his belief that he still hears Marillion singing—
"I want to go back to bed. I never slept last night. I heard singing. Maester Colemon gave me dreamwine but I could still hear it."
Alayne put down her spoon. "If there had been singing, I should have heard it too. You had a bad dream, that's all."
"No, it wasn't a dream." Tears filled his eyes. "Marillion was singing again. Your father says he's dead, but he isn't." (AFFC Alayne I)
—suggest he is is "gifted" in a weirwood-net-adjacent way similar to Jojen, Bran, and/or Bloodraven. Thus to a fellow clairvoyant like the Ghost of High Heart, he may truly seem like a 'giant' indeed.

Summary/TL;DR

So that's it. If the Ghost of High Heart's vision of "that maid again" — "a maid at a feast with purple serpents in her hair, venom dripping from their fangs" — "slaying a savage giant in a castle built of snow" is related to the doll-and-snow-castle incident, it's surely not merely about Sansa figuratively slaying Sweetrobin's doll, but about Sansa slaying Sweetrobin himself, who is 'coded' as a figurative "savage giant in a castle built of snow" during that incident—
"Tromp tromp I'm a giant, I'm a giant," he chanted. "Ho ho ho, open your gates or I'll mash them and smash them."
It started with no more than a little shivering, but within a few short heartbeats [Sweetrobin] had collapsed across the castle [built of snow], his limbs flailing about violently.
—and who is primed to die of an overdose of sweetsleep, a "poison" which would be consistent with the venomous imagery with which the Ghost's prophecy depicts Sansa.
EDIT: If this comes to pass, I do wonder whether the "purple serpents" motif may get another pay-off in the form of a purple ribbon in Sansa's hair, like the (notably velvet!) ribbon she tries on as Alayne here:
In the end she chose a simple velvet ribbon in autumn gold. When Gretchel fetched her Lysa's silvered looking glass, the color seemed just perfect with Alayne's mass of dark brown hair. (AFFC Alayne I)
It's worth noting that in the opening line of ACOK Ayra IV, we see a specifically colored "ribbon" deployed as a metaphor for a thing associated with snakes:
The river was a blue-green ribbon shining in the morning sun. Reeds grew thick in the shallows along the banks, and Arya saw a water snake skimming across the surface, ripples spreading out behind it as it went. Overhead a hawk flew in lazy circles.
If a river with a snake in it can figurative 'be' a specifically colored ribbon, couldn't the "purple serpents" in the maid's hair in the prophecy be a figurative stand-in for a literal ribbon Sansa wears to a feast at which Robert dies from sweetsleep she gives him (in addition to foreshadowing the purple wedding)? Indeed, a similar conflation is at the heart of one of the most famous murder mysteries in literature: The Speckled Band.
(Notice that the circling hawk recalls the falcons of the Vale, while "Reeds" recalls Howland Reed, who I believe attends the "feast" in TWOW Alayne I in the guise of Ser Shadrich of the Shady Glen.)
END EDIT
Could the prophecy (also?) be about Littlefinger? About an Umber? Sure. But to dismiss the castle in the snow incident as if Robert's doll is the only figurative "savage giant in a castle built of snow" there is to dismiss a straw man. (See what I did there?)

2023.05.26 18:45 M_Tootles Sweetrobin's Doll Isn't the Only "Giant" In The Snow Castle (Spoilers TWOW)

What kind of stone was used in this 1870 house?
I've been researching this mansion (built 1870–71) in the mid-Hudson Valley, New York, since 2019 and I still haven't been able to determine the type/name/kind of stone used on the house's exterior. I know some trimmings (window sills, belt course) were of bluestone quarried in Kingston, New York, upriver.
The majority of the house seems to be built of this blue-grey sometimes even yellowish stone. It was apparently quarried from "the neighborhood" (a town on the west bank of the Hudson River). The column is equally puzzling, and must've been a feat to carve and put together. Really appreciate the insight. I'm just a historian!
