Lake norman sea doo
Since we're all sharing maps we made in our youth, here's a map I made for Geography way back in year 8. We got Chile, The Diamond Spray Delta (from Wings of Fire), a lake at like the highest point of the map, rivers that meet the sea on each end, and of course the most superficial conlangs of all!

2023.05.28 05:43 FloridaNativeDude Premo Broward finally released preliminary transportation plan
Premo Broward just released their preliminary plans for upgrading public transportation in Broward. While any improvement is good, I find the proposal...underwhelming. There is barely any rail planned and most changes are just making bus frequency higher on certain roads, it seems to me. Also, West Pines, West Miramar, Weston, Davie, Cooper City, and Parkland are basically ignored. I know these are more affluent areas, but the whole attitude that public transportation is for the less fortunate, rather than being a public good for general use is so ridiculous. Place with high functioning transit systems have transit that is used broadly by ALL classes of people.

2023.05.28 03:58 TBAGTOM86 2023 GTR Issue
Howâs it going everyone? I just got a 2023 Sea-Doo GTR. I put it in the water today to start with the break-in per the manual.
At one point when I was going in to dock it it started vibrating pretty violently and felt like it was going to stall out. This was while going from idle to reverse.
Then later on in the day I was cruising and it felt like the engine cut power on me. It sounds different now and when I go to accelerate it vibrates bad and doesnât want to accelerate. It still idles and goes into reverse fine. It just doesnât want to accelerate.
I was towed home and looked under it once I got it up on the lift. There isnât anything visible up in the grate.
What could be going on here? Could something have sucked in deeper beyond the grate opening? I question that being the problem since I had the really weird vibration/stalling feeling earlier in the day.
Could it be bad gas? Are there any known brand new out of the box issues that sound similar to this?
Itâs a bummer I have to pull it out of the water after I literally just put it in. Iâm going to get it back into the dealer this week but any insight on the problem would be great. Thanks.

2023.05.28 01:48 mothernatureearthmom The Hill We Climb
When Marjorie Taylor Greene called Jamaal Bowman (and I am paraphrasing here) an angry scary Black man, then turned around and called the violent white men who stormed the Capitol and angrily threatened lives on 1/6, victims - political prisoners who deserve mercy, she wasn't alone in these sentiments. (1)
There are thousands (millions?) of people who react to the different races in the same way. Some knowingly, but many who don't even realize that is what they are doing. They would not recognize those sentiments in themselves.
The conversation may start out "I am not a racist but..". - BUT there are proportionally more black men in prison for a reason and it's not racism. - BUT why weren't the violent BLM rioters pursued and jailed like the 1/6ers are. - BUT they live in those neighborhoods for a reason. - BUT Reagan wasn't wrong when he spoke out about welfare queens. -yes a lot of youth die from gun violence BUT that is gang violence.
You get the idea. The list is endless. And they do not hear themselves.
As a child of the 60s, I thought we would be well past that by now. But the powers that be want to keep that power. And to do that they need a fearful populace. So they can't let the 'angry black man' myth die. Apparently they think that banning the teaching of history, or as they call it 'CRT' will help keep that myth alive.
Sometimes things backfire. Sometimes in small ways but sometimes bigger...much bigger..
The latest outrage is that instance where one parent got Amanda Gorman's poem, âThe Hill We Climb,â pulled from a school in Florida on the grounds that it âis not educationalâ and contains âindirect hate messages.â (2)
The result of that? Millions of people googling the poem. For many, this may be the first time they read it. They may have planned on being outraged. And when they found nothing outrageous, maybe...maybe they re-thought about what was happening. Maybe a change of perspective. Sigh..a gal can dream.
And others reminding themselves of the beauty of those words. (3)
Either way, I am sure this is not the result that parent (and may I suggest a person or group who coached her) was looking for.
We have a long way to travel and many hills to climb before we reach the America we have been working towards. Maybe this is the impetus we need to start our travels again and to tackle that hill with renewed vigor.
(1) What MTG actually said: "Greene, who has come under fire for espousing conspiracy theories and attending a meeting organized by white nationalist Nick Fuentes during her first two-plus years in office, said Thursday she feels âthreatenedâ by Bowman, adding his âphysical mannerisms are aggressiveâ and that he âled a mobâ to the Capitol."

https://thehill.com/homenews/news/535052-read-transcript-of-amanda-gormans-inaugural-poem/ When day comes we ask ourselves, where can we find light in this never-ending shade? The loss we carry, a sea we must wade Weâve braved the belly of the beast Weâve learned that quiet isnât always peace And the norms and notions of what just is Isnât always just-ice And yet the dawn is ours before we knew it Somehow we do it Somehow weâve weathered and witnessed a nation that isnât broken but simply unfinished We the successors of a country and a time Where a skinny Black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president only to find herself reciting for one And yes we are far from polished far from pristine but that doesnât mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect We are striving to forge a union with purpose To compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters and conditions of man And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us but what stands before us We close the divide because we know, to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another We seek harm to none and harmony for all Let the globe, if nothing else, say this is true: That even as we grieved, we grew That even as we hurt, we hoped That even as we tired, we tried That weâll forever be tied together, victorious Not because we will never again know defeat but because we will never again sow division Scripture tells us to envision that everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree And no one shall make them afraid If weâre to live up to our own time Then victory wonât lie in the blade But in all the bridges weâve made That is the promised glade The hill we climb If only we dare Itâs because being American is more than a pride we inherit, itâs the past we step into and how we repair it Weâve seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy And this effort very nearly succeeded But while democracy can be periodically delayed it can never be permanently defeated In this truth in this faith we trust For while we have our eyes on the future history has its eyes on us This is the era of just redemption We feared at its inception We did not feel prepared to be the heirs of such a terrifying hour but within it we found the power to author a new chapter To offer hope and laughter to ourselves So while once we asked, how could we possibly prevail over catastrophe? Now we assert How could catastrophe possibly prevail over us? We will not march back to what was but move to what shall be A country that is bruised but whole, benevolent but bold, fierce and free We will not be turned around or interrupted by intimidation because we know our inaction and inertia will be the inheritance of the next generation Our blunders become their burdens But one thing is certain: If we merge mercy with might, and might with right, then love becomes our legacy and change our childrenâs birthright So let us leave behind a country better than the one we were left with Every breath from my bronze-pounded chest, we will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one We will rise from the gold-limbed hills of the west, we will rise from the windswept northeast where our forefathers first realized revolution We will rise from the lake-rimmed cities of the midwestern states, we will rise from the sunbaked south We will rebuild, reconcile and recover and every known nook of our nation and every corner called our country, our people diverse and beautiful will emerge, battered and beautiful When day comes we step out of the shade, aflame and unafraid The new dawn blooms as we free it For there is always light, if only weâre brave enough to see it If only weâre brave enough to be it submitted by

2023.05.28 01:16 BrotherAJC Hyperborea (read description)
Hyperborea is the mythical land of the people âbeyond the North Windâ in Greek lore. It is mentioned by the Greek historian Herodotus as a continent-bound land from Egyptian legend, bordered by the river Oceanus. Eridanos was the main river that flowed through it, home to white swans and lined with poplar trees that would weep amber. At one point, it had been blessed with eternal spring, resulting in a double harvest of grain per year, with most of the countryside covered in forests called the Garden of Apollo. When it was destroyed by ice, its people were believed to have migrated to lands in the south. According to Greek legend, the land of Hyperborea is a place of total perfection, with sunlight 24 hours a day. The people never suffered from disease or old age, nor did they have to labor or fight in any wars or battles. Hyperborea is believed to have been far north of Thrace, and in modern times would be considered to be located within the Arctic Circle. The actual location of Hyperborea is a mystery, however, and according to the Greek Poet Pindar, the road to the Hyperboreans could not be found by ship or on foot. Several legends point to the snow-covered Riphean Mountains, next to the Black Sea, as the location of Hyperborea, far beyond the realm of Boreas, ruler of the North Wind. Different philosophers and poets have placed Hyperborea in different areas, adding to the mystery. Homer believed Boreas to be in Thrace, claiming that Hyperborea was located in the region of Dacia, now an area north of the Balkan Mountains. Aristotle wrote that the Riphean Mountains were on the border of Scythia, with Hyperborea being even further north. And Hecataeus of Abdera believed that Hyperborea was in the area of what is now called Britain. Although Hyperborea is also described as being north of the Celts, at the time, Celtic society was in Europe and only became restricted to Britannia after the death of Christ. In Hecataeusâ account, griffins inhabited the peaks of the mountains near Hyperborea, and the valleys surrounding them held the one-eyed tribe of Arimaspoi. The Greeks believed that Boreas, god of the North Wind, lived in Thrace, and may have been part of a Celtic tribe, such as the Helvetii. They built a sacred province dedicated to Apollo and adorned the temple they constructed with spherical offerings; some scholars believe this temple to be Stonehenge. The people of Hyperborea could have been either of Gaulish origin (modern-day France) or possibly Northern European (Scandinavian) descent. One of the most legendary of the Hyperborean people was a healer known as Abaris, who is described by Herodotus as a sage and priest of Apollo. Hyperborea was best known as a land where people never grew old, were blessed with disease-free bodies, and were untouched by war and hardship. Apolloâs priests ruled Hyperborea as a theocratic society. The three kings who ruled it in his honor were the Boreades, sons of the North Wind, Boreas. The Hyperboreans worshipped Apollo, who was believed to live among them. They would pack mysterious gifts in straw and pass them from one tribe to the next until they completed the journey to the temple on Delos. Several notable myths and figures arose from Hyperborea, including great healers, founders of shrines, and trials of mortals set upon them by the gods. Abaris the Healer traveled around the world on a magical arrow meant to symbolize Apollo, eating no food as he journeyed, and performing miracles wherever he went. The arrow he flew on was the same arrow Apollo used to slay the Cyclopes, and it had been hidden beneath a Hyperborean mountain before being found by Abaris. He practiced healing of the soul as well as the body through incantations, and also had a gift for prophecy. He wore simple Scythian clothing and was held in high regard in Greece for his honesty and simplicity. Abaris learned his healing skills after fleeing a plague at Caucasus in his homeland of Hyperborea. With what he learned from the experience, he was able to purify Sparta and Knossos and several other cities. His ability to reason and his persuasive manner helped him to steer a former tyrant, Phalaris, towards a virtuous life after a long discussion of divine matters. Abaris was able to read omens and predict future events by examining the entrails of animals, and his deeds are mentioned in the Scythian Oracles. Several of the mortal children of the gods visited the land of Hyperborea. Phaethon, in an attempt to prove to his friends he was the son of Helios, tried to drive the sun chariot. He could not control it, however, and, given no other choice, Zeus struck him down to prevent the scorching of the Earth. In flames, his body fell into the River Eridanos. The Helidaes, his sisters, transformed into amber-weeping poplar trees in their grief over Phaethon, and his friend Kyknos was transformed into a swan. The Hyperboreans, when they began to reach old age, would leap into the lake created by Phaethonâs fall, and would themselves become white swans in commemoration of the tragedy. Perseus, who was the son of Zeus, traveled to Hyperborea. Here he went in search of the Nymphs who were the guardians to the godsâ treasures. He was entertained by the people of Hyperborea and would go on to find the Graiai, who were swan-bodied crones who knew the location of Medusa. Heracles, a descendant of Perseus, would also make this journey in search of Artemisâ golden-horned deer. He would return to Hyperborea searching for the golden apples of Heserides, and also to find Atlas. The people of Hyperborea are mentioned in the founding of the Olympic games, when Heracles began a festival for Zeusâ honor he made a pilgrimage to Hyperborea to take sacred wild olives for the shrine. Leto, a female Titan, traveled to the island of Delos from Hyperborea along with her pack of wolves to give birth to Apollo, with aid from Eileithyia who came from the northern realm. The Hyperboreans sent five men and several female priestesses as pilgrims to the island to form a shrine, but the maidens were raped and killed, which caused the Hyperboreans to end the pilgrimage and choose to deliver offerings and messages through neighboring tribes instead. The oracle of Apollo at Delphi is another major shrine in Hyperborea. The Hyperboreans made the temples located at the shrine from beeswax and feathers. At the time the Gauls attempted to sack the temple, phantom spirits of the pilgrim prophets appeared and chased the army from Hyperborea. Modern-day Scandinavians have been frequently identified with the Hyperboreans, especially in 17th century Sweden where the Goths believed the Scandinavian Peninsula to contain both Atlantis and the land of Hyperborea. Western European culture also self-identifies with the Hyperboreans, through European scholars in the 19th century in works of literature. To this day, the term Hyperborean is used to refer to people who inhabit a cold climate and is also associated with the languages of peoples indigenous to the Arctic Circle. https://mythology.net/greek/mortals/hyperborea/ submitted by BrotherAJC to SaturnStormCube [link] [comments]
2023.05.28 01:08 BadJuJu_2929 [GW2] What happened to the Gift of Water Magic?
The only elemental magical gift that isn't practised on the Northern Continent of Tyria is water. Spellcasters can manipulate water, but only at the whim of the other elemental magics. In times past, for instance, Melandru and her statues - symbols of earth magic - became beacons of hope for those seeking shelter and fresh water. Conversely, Lyssa and her effigies, reflections of time magic, gathered to them a collection of male magicians who died of dehydration.
No magician from the north could claim for themselves the power to manipulate water directly; the gift of water magic, Abaddon's gift, had seemingly died out there. The Orrian History Scrolls: The Six tell us that this was because the dispensation of the gift was deliberately stifled. Abaddon, water magic's god, had fallen; and with him, water magic. To the writer of the scrolls, Abaddon and all like him, fellow water magicians, were traitors whose powers over the most chaotic element of all could not be trusted. It is sentiment seemingly sanctioned by the gods. To the west, the once verdant Maguuma began to decline as the vast bodies of water in the region dried up, becoming the Silverwastes, Drytop, and their surroundings. To the south, the geography of the Crystal Sea was transformed into the Crystal Desert. Wherever the elemental magics of the Northern Continent met vast quantities of inland freshwater, desertification followed. No longer would powerful water magicians like Jadoth call upon fresh water to do his bidding; with it, he created maelstroms and vortexes that swallowed the stars themselves. Worse still, I believe his bitter intentions could turn fresh water into salt water, littering lakes with fingers akin to those found in the Strait of Malchor. No more, though, now that unfettered access to water was reduced on the Northern Continent.
Why did the gods of Tyria think that water magicians were traitors? There are many sources through which an answer can be inferred. Sunqua Peak offers us the best insight. Like water elementals, childlike in their disposition, water magicians (whether intentionally or not) showed Magic's enemies too much about the spells underpinning Tyria's sustenance. We all know who these enemies are: Demons from the Mists. Not all demons mean Tyrians harm. Grenth is called a demigod, even a god, by some. But the traumatic magics that birth demonkind make it hard for these fell beings to deny their base instincts. Grenth has Dwayna to comfort him; most other demons aren't as lucky.
To me, demonkind compromised the integrity of the gift of water magic, using the things they learned about the gift against both those who practised it and the other elemental magics. There are two notable examples of spellcasters who carried water magic's gift: Vizier Khilbron and Shiro Tagachi. The Vizier's gift is made manifest through the Cataclysm of Orr. I believe many magicians could read the Lost Scrolls without ever stirring the magic in them. Perhaps, to their minds, the scrolls were merely obsolete takes on Tyrian history, akin to the other apocryphal works associated with Abaddon. But to someone with the gift of water magic, the scrolls became alive. Khilbron's reading of them stirred magics hiding in the waters of the Orrian Peninsula. The rest you already know.
Shiro Tagachi is an interesting case of the gift of water magic. His perverted gift was Wild Magic, unfocused by a structured spell like that of the Lost Scrolls. Presumably, had Khilbron found himself in Shiro's shoes on that fateful day at the Harvest Temple, he too would have created a sea of jade, a pool of tormented magic swimming with demonkind. The jade, then, appears to be the most conniving form of malicious magic demonkind can unleash through the gift of water magic; and Shiro's fate shows us what happens when a gift of magic is compromised.
Empress Ihn, the demon queen of Cantha, once famously stated that, had her father attended her audience with the PC, he'd die all over again. To whom was the demon queen referring, though? To Taejeong? Shiro? Abaddon? All three? Interestingly, the Guild Wars Prophecies Manuscripts (GWPM) state that male magicians often died at Lyssa's sculptures. Did all males die, or just a few? I think just a few. Whatever does this mean? Let's explore a possible explanation.
The most infamous examples of water magicians are both male. (Granted, they are few in number, but the gods suppressed the distribution of the gift of water magic across the Northern Continent and, ultimately, all of Tyria, as The Orrian History Scrolls show. So a select few is still a useful sample.) Moreover, the GWPM tell us that male magicians might die from gazing at Lyssa's statues. To wit, the gift of water magic is likely passed from generation to generation through male progenitors. Hence, Emperor Taejeong probably carries the gift as he, like Shiro before him, is of imperial blood. (I am making the assumption that the bloodline of the Canthan dynasty carries the gift of water magic.) To further this, it's possible that the gift can only be practised by males and that, now that water magic has been compromised, casting spells with said gift carries consequences. For the Margonites, those humans in whom the gift of water magic was notably manifest and who practised it freely, it meant societal collapse and eventual infertility. (Of course, the gift of water magic may not be exclusive to humanity; other races, such as the norn, may also have access to it and so, from among them, we see the emergence of the Sons of Svanir as Jormag protects another gift of magic by preventing those male norn who carry the gift of water magic from using it until the appointed time.)
The Elder Dragons guard the gifts of magic. Zhaitan: the gift of aether magic, using defensive magics associated with it, death and shadow; Mordremoth: the gift of earth magic, of which important defensive subsets are mind and plant; Kralkatorrik: the gift of time magic, which defends itself by drawing upon crystal and fury; Jormag: the gift of air magic, which uses ice and persuasion to fortify and protect; Primordus: the gift of fire magic, defending itself with fire and conflagration; and "Bubbles": the gift of water magic, whose defensive spells are as yet unknown as they have been undermined by demonkind and twisted into the treacherous Soo-Won the Impostor. To guard these gifts, Elder Dragons frequently employ corruption, a process in which they mix their lifeforce with that of another, typically lesser, being, creating a minion. In the case of water magic, should males carry the gift, it suggests that Taejeon's "death" isn't as straight forward as Ihn would have us believe. The true Deep Sea Dragon, villified as a monster by those who would harm it, has likely corrupted the Emperor to preserve what is left of his water magic and, unbeknowst to us, a side effect of that corruption is immortality akin to that of Palawa Joko yet subject to none of the latter's weakness. That is to say, the demons of Cantha cannot kill Taejeon and so, as some have speculated, the former Canthan ruler is likely imprisoned in Raisu Palace. (The PC may be manipulated into attempting to kill Taejeon's corrupted form.)
Will the gift of water magic be practised freely in Tyria again? I think so. The power of the Elder Dragons, the work of the gods, the emergence of the sylvari, and the rise of the PC, indicate to me that Wild Magic wishes to restore water magic to itself. One of the hurdles preventing this is jade. Let's hope Anet can step up their storytelling abilities and give Guild Wars 2 the legacy it deserves. The skritt of the Maguuma Wastes are waiting within the bowels of their boat...

Sporterized swedish Mauser project. Thanks to everyones advice on here I've upgraded optics and worked up a good load, but I was having trouble with muzzle jump. In the 90s when I originally built this threaded barrels weren't really a thing or I would have done it then. It has the original contour military barrel but has been shortened a 24 in. I didn't want to wait on a custom one to be made and management was on vacation last week. If you know what I mean. Let me know how I did. submitted by Ok-Marsupial-5774 to longrange [link] [comments]

2023.05.28 00:45 Askinar_The_Dark Travel
Iâve made a continent thatâs rather large: large enough to have two kingdoms, four mountain ranges, a huge forest, and multiple seas and lakes.
Then, I decided to make magic really damn rare and hated by the most dominant race, humans.
My idiot brain didnât link the two, especially considering I know have my main characters who are supposed to be deeply involved in the civil war raging across this continent, limited to slow ass horses. Thereâs no way I could realistically have my characters play as immersive a role in the war as I intended.
So, screw realism and pretend horses are freaking speedy? Just make my map smaller? Also, ideas of a faster form of travel would be awesome. For context, magic is rare, hated, and can only be used by humans if they carve the magical runes they want to use onto a physical object. My world is also set in a heavily influenced 1300-1400s medieval period. So âblack powderâ is just being discovered and bastard feudalism over vassals is predominant. Not really relevant to travel lol but could help anyone get an idea of what could help me. đ¤ˇââď¸đ¤ˇââď¸

Hello!
I started up my sea Doo last week, ran fine. Now just today it wonât even turn over. Charged it for like 6 hours to make sure it wasnât a battery issue. All the gauges light up. Wonât start. Only thing I can hear is a light ticking in the engine bay. When I put the key in and try and start it, it just cycles through the âchecking keyâ and every once in a while will give me a ânormal keyâ but still wonât start. So frustrating! I know thatâs not much information to diagnose but does anyone have any ideas?

YAY! Chapter 4 already done and ready for posting! WOOO! I really hope that you enjoy it, dear readers! I've Been Reincarnated as a Bunny Girl?! (Chapter 4)
by
ShadowDragon88
"I love when the merchant caravan comes to town!" Valay cheered from where he was sitting on Kiana's shoulders, making his soon-to-be sixteen-year-old big sister wince. At age nine, the twins were being accompanied by Kiana as they walked through main street in town. Twice a year the merchant caravan, often accompanied by adventurers or mercenaries as guards, came to Starlight Rose. Ever since the destruction of The Spire, the town had started to see more traffic as travelers no longer had to worry about traveling through the narrow gaps in the mountain range, past a source of evil. In the six years since its destruction, Starlight Rose had bloomed and doubled its population.
Walking past the stalls and the games, Kiana smiled, feeling a festive atmosphere. She looked down at Malay, who was wearing a seafoam green dress, the young wolbet not caring that it had been a hand-me-down from Kiana, and clutching a giant blue stuffed fox almost as big as she was. Kiana was wearing a bright yellow sundress, having stated that on such a warm day, it was the best option to help keep from getting overheated. Her mother and sister had both smiled knowingly, not the least bit tricked by Kiana's professions. Kiana would often just not think about it.
Valay, in contrast, was wearing a simple red shirt and brown shorts and some small stick-on bandages on his shins and knees. The young boy wolbet was holding a purple dragon plush. Kiana had won them from a game booth. It was the classic 'throw a ball at a stack of bottles to knock them over' game, and like a cliche, she had seen her little brother throw a ball, hit the stack in the dead center, and they didn't move an inch. That's when big sister had stepped in. Kiana looked back at the booth... or rather where it had been. The attendant was still standing there, staring in a daze, as only half of the structure still remained.
"I'm glad you two like it," Kiana said, picking her brother up off her shoulders and setting him down next to his twin. Mirabelle rubbed up against his leg, making him giggle. The tiny snake, that had been small enough to sit coiled comfortably in the palm of a younger Kiana's hand, was now the size of a Saint Barnard, and just as affectionate as one. The blue-green snake had a tendency to try and sneak food, mainly cookies, when she thought she could get away with it, and had developed quite the set of sad puppy eyes when caught.
"So Kiana," Malay asked, looking up with her forest green eyes, a twinkle in them, "gunna go meet with Davtio later?"
Kiana smiled and rolled her eyes. Malay loved asking Kiana about her love life, or rather lack thereof. The older girl reached over and ruffled her little sister's headfur.
"Davtio and I are just friends," she said, having the day before gone on a walk with the elf-boy from her graduating class, gently letting him down after he had made his courting intentions known. The day after Kiana's birthday, which would be two days after the biannual festival, she was going to be leaving Starlight Rose to become a traveling adventurer. Davtio, with his long and practically glowing golden locks and eyes the color of the deep blue sea, had been disappointed, but he understood.
Jorba the goblin boy, however, had been far less formal as well as far less respectful with his own declaration. Said green-skinned bat-eared boy had walked over to where Kiana was retying her new forest green boots and given her bottom a swat, just below her cotton tail, puffing out his chest and informing Kiana that he had decided she was the finest female in their age group in the town and therefore, will be his woman. Slowly, Kiana had straightened herself and turned around, her eyes glowing with a blue light. With a swipe of her legs and a downward punch, that Kiana had been careful not to be too hard with, she effectively punched the disgusting goblin, literally, into the ground. Still alive and not crippled, but definitely in a lot of pain.
"I know that he liiiiiikes you, though," Malay said, rocking back and forth on her heels, reaching down to stroke Mirabelle's head, making the large reptile loosely wrap herself around the young wolbet girl's ankles.
"I don't feel the same way and I told him as much, so we've agreed to remain friends," Kiana said, making her sister let out an exasperated sigh.
"GAH! That is so just like you, Kiki!" Malay said, using the name she and Valay had called Kiana shortly after they had first learned how to talk. "Someone likes you, but you're just happy being just friends!"
"Hey, friends are awesome to have," Kiana said, picking Malay up and setting her on her shoulders, taking Valay's hand/paw into her own. Malay just rolled her eyes and continued to hug her fox.
"So," Valay piped up, glad that the girls had quit talking about romance stuff, "whatcha gunna buy with the money you saved up?" Valay was speaking of the jingling pouch of coins on Kiana's hip. She had earned extra coin around town doing things like babysitting and helping Mr. Fresto build a new stone wall around his garden, and the like. Making deliveries for the new offta restaurant in town had been fun for the teen bunny, and not because offta was the name for what turned out to be pizza in this world either! Tapping into her powers, she was able to sprint all across town and even over to Lake Phantom and back, often in under a minute.
"Well, I've already bought a bunch of supplies and a pack for my journey," Kiana said, taking note of Valay's ears drooping a bit, as well as sensing that Malay's ears were probably doing the same.
"So... you really mean to leave?" Malay asked from Kiana's shoulders. Kiana smiled and rubbed her little sister's leg, before rubbing her little brother's head.
"Yeah, I really do. But like I've told papa... repeatedly, actually, I'll come back to visit a whole bunch! And I'll be able to tell you all some cool stories about my travels!" Kiana said, brightening their moods.
"Are you going to learn magic?" Malay asked. As the twins edged closer towards their tenth birthday, that meant that they were nearing when they'd be old enough to take an exam to determine their magical abilities. Malay had accidentally turned a handful of flowers to stone when she sneezed at age seven. She also accidentally set a patch of grass on fire just outside her bedroom window after a bad dream a couple months back. According to a very excited Felixin, these were signs that Malay had a high aptitude for magic, and might actually be a sorceress, someone born with raw magical power within them.
Felixin went on to explain that anyone, with study and practice and skill, could eventually learn to use magic, but people like that fell under the category of a wizard. He went on to explain that witches were similar to wizards, but were more like hippies out dancing in the woods. Sorcerers and sorceresses were born with raw magical power already in them, that as they grew older, they needed to learn how to control, lest it become dangerous to them and those around them.
Druids, he continued with his explanation, were similar to witches, but less studious and more concentrating on attuning themselves to the energies of the surrounding natural world. He also said they had a tendency to eat certain mushrooms and fungus that they claimed could open one's third eye, but her father dismissed that notion as them just being addled by the chemicals in said fungi. Clerics were also magical, but their magic derived from whichever god they'd devoted themselves to, much like paladins, but with more study and significantly less combat training.
Finally, there were warlocks. Felixin was not shy about making his feelings regarding warlocks known. Instead of taking the time to learn and practice and concentrate and actually earn their magical power, they were rare people who instead bound themselves to an entity of great magical power, often something very sinister. In exchange for this power, they would do their new master's bidding, oftentimes not even fully understanding why such entities would want such requests done. He even recounted one warlock whose only task was to go out on the road and find a specific boulder, and then move it three inches south. Said warlock just shrugged when asked why, and stated that it was the only task his master ever asked of him.
What Felixin apparently didn't know was that there was a final category. The monk. When the master dragon monk had come to evaluate Kiana, after he had recovered from his shock, he had explained that monks were ordinary people who trained both their minds and their bodies. They would learn to tap into their inner power, their ki, and harness it through their bodies. This was of course after years and years of training and meditation. Of the different kinds of monks, the dragon monks were the most powerful. Once they passed a certain threshold, they would become as powerful as a dragon; which kind of dragon depended on which advanced school of training they most identified with. According to the master, Kiana practically oozed the aura of a storm dragon, which was capable of moving as fast as lightning.
"Kiki!" Valay called, tugging on Kiana's hand. She shook herself and smiled down at the wolbet boy. Kiana looked up in time to see Mirabelle stealthily reaching up at a nearby picnic table where those sitting weren't paying any attention and was trying to drag a plate with an entire rotisserie chicken on it nearer to the edge. She snapped her finger, making Mirabelle recoil and slither right back over to her legs, making the sad eyes at her. Kiana ignored the big orange orbs with the black slits and returned her attention to her brother.
"Sorry, buddy, I guess I got lost in my memories there for a sec."
The boy rolled his eyes and pointed to a large red and white tent that covered a wide area. There were no walls, and plenty of people were milling about inside, looking at the various goods. What had caught Valay's eye were the weapons. Already the boy had begged their mother to teach him swordfighting and, only recently, Pumala had agreed. She took note of how quickly Valay had taken to practicing the basics every day after school, always starting back to stance one. Kiana was certain that he was going to grow up to be quite the fighter.
"Okay, let's take a look and see what they've got for sale," Kiana said, turning them to an opening, Mirabelle following close behind. Together they walked down the set up shelves and displays. Valay was entranced by the swords and daggers, especially the throwing knives and shurikens. Scratch that, Kiana thought to herself with a giggle as she set her little sister down to look at the magical staves, thinking about how much Valay loved hiding and planting stink bombs for pranks and using smoke bombs to make his escapes. He'll probably grow up to be a great ninja or something.
Keeping her younger siblings and Mirabelle in sight, Kiana started to look through the different weapons. There were plenty made from low-quality materials that would probably break upon the first real usage, including an ornate-looking gold sword encrusted with jewels. She stopped just past the flails and nunchucks, spying several different tetsubos. The tetsubo was a weapon of the ancient samurai, at least that was the case for her home world. They were long, thick wooden clubs, in this case as tall as Kiana was, so around five feet in length. Going down the sides of the weapons, stopping only at the ends at the tops and just before the handles at the bottoms, were rounded or spiked metal rivets.
She pushed past some ornately carved ones, and spotted what appeared to be a plain brown tetsubo. It was polished and its rivets were spiked and black. The handle was wrapped in a comfortable-feeling leather. Some instinct deep within her liked this weapon, it liked it very much. Carrying it with one hand, she approached a man wearing a lapis lazuli-colored turban, and some matching lapis with gold trim robes. His skin was a pitch-black, with a shock of long white hair, signifying that he was a dark elf.
"How much for the tetsubo?" Kiana asked, hearing Valay and Malay hurrying to her side. She could practically feel their wide eyes staring in wonder at the weapon.
The merchant smiled, his purple eyes twinkling. "So this is the weapon you have selected? Quite the interesting choice."
"Uh, thanks?" Kiana said, now looking the tetsubo over and wondering if it was cursed, or if the guy before her was going to turn out to be a demon or something and that every item in the shop was cursed in some karmic way like the old cliche.
"It is made from a healthy branch of steelwood. Note that I said made, and not carved. As exquisite as a weapon or armor made from carved steelwood is, it pales in comparison to one that is made with secret techniques to sing the form it was always supposed to be straight from the trees themselves. Doing so ensures that any weapon or armor crafted this way will never dull or break. And the price will, of course, reflect as much..."
"Ah," Kiana said, understanding what the merchant before her was getting at.
"That particular tetsubo I cannot part with for less than a platinum," he said.
"Sold," Kiana said, pulling open her pouch and jangling it as her hand disappeared inside. After a moment of her rooting around and sifting coins aside, she found what she was looking for. Out she pulled a single platinum coin. Her brother and sister, as well as the merchant, looked at Kiana in shock.
"Where'd you get a platinum piece?" Malay asked, watching transfixed as Kiana handed the coin over to the still stunned dark elf, who took it and slipped it into a pocket in his robes.
"I found it just outside of town, when I beat down a giant shambling plant creature-thing. I think it ate a traveling merchant or something, 'cause I found a pouch with ten of them in it," Kiana whispered with a wink. She looked up to see that the merchant had the coin back in his hands and was examining it with a jeweler's loupe, nodding in approval as he pocketed both and gave Kiana an award-winning smile.
"A happy transaction," he said, his voice much more jovial than it had been, "please, look around some more for any more weapons that might catch your eye. And please, remember to ask for F'nnickly the Weapon Merchant if ever you're in the cities of Thassles, Ghostflower, or Midnight Tree. I have shops in all of them!"
"I certainly will," Kiana said, meaning it. She imagined she would be seeing more of this F'nnickly on her travels. She then turned to her brother and sister and knelt down, while the merchant turned to address another customer. "Alright, you two, did you guys find anything you wanted? I'll buy it for you."
"But... your birthday money?" Valay asked, looking torn. Kiana gave him and then his twin a kiss on their foreheads.
"You're my cute little brother and sister. If I want to spend money on you guys, I will," she said with a warm smile that only grew wider at the sight of the two now sporting excited grins. They both ran off and started to look more earnestly at things that had caught their eyes.
"Papa probably won't be too happy with me buying them weapons, but I'm sure he and Mama will teach them how to be responsible with them," she thought. She was still crouched to the twins' level and was about to stand back up, when she spotted something else that caught her eye. It was a pair of seemingly plain polished brass knuckles lying inside a small glass display case on a shelf to her left. They looked to be made of a bright silvery metal. Opening the case and picking them up, they weighed next to nothing, but like the tetsubo, something about them called out to Kiana on a level she couldn't quite identify. Smiling, she stood up with them and tapped F'nnickly on his shoulder.
After learning that they were a pair of master-crafted mithril brass knuckles, Kiana bought them for five hundred gold, which was just half of another platinum piece, so she got some change to fill her coin pouch with. Valay was the first to return, carrying a set of shuriken that were enchanted to return to the thrower's hand with a snap of their fingers, a steel dagger, and a chain and sickle that F'nnickly identified as a kusarigama. Kiana had to stop Valay from spinning the weighted end as well as the sickle. Malay returned with a corkscrew oak carved staff that ended with a glowing purple jewel at the top, floating just above the tip. Right below it were human faces carved in, all with sinister-looking grins. It was a swamp dragon staff, meaning that it was great with poison, disease, and paralysis-related spells. With some practice, a dedicated magic user could use it to help with healing very nasty injuries and infections. Together, their purchases ended up costing Kiana another platinum piece plus another fifty gold.
Kiana smiled down at her beloved little brother and little sister, seeing their excitement as they marveled at their new equipment. Mirabelle, not understanding just why they were excited, was still wriggling happily nonetheless. Kiana looked around at her town, beyond the merchant booths and the games, looking at all the sights she had grown up again with, feeling a pang of sadness at knowing in two days, she was leaving. She saw all the familiar faces of her neighbors and friends and everyone else in this town she had grown to love. But it was time, and she knew it. And she had meant what she had said, she was going to visit often. Plus, she'd have Mirabelle with her, so she didn't expect she'd feel too homesick.
Two Days Later...
Kiana's travel pack was fully loaded with spare clothes, food, her mithril knuckles, a couple health potions (not that she was expecting to have to use them), a canteen of fresh water, some alchemical flameless torches, some books, other assorted supplies and, when she was certain no one was looking, Mr. Wolfy. She grabbed her tetsubo and looked at her bedroom, smiling at the bookshelf filled with all sorts of titles and books about faraway lands. Her bed was made, the soft pink comforter that made cold winter nights just so warm. Her closet that was closed, containing a bit fewer dresses than it did a couple days ago, with them safely packed away in her bag. Sighing, she exited.
She was wearing her forest green boots with gold trim up the laces. They matched her green and gold hot pants and matching halter top. Kiana hadn't been too sure about leaving her midriff open like this, exposing her grey back and white tummy, but she had to admit that she had a pretty decent range of movement. And besides, compared to some other female, and some male, adventurers out there wearing what were basically bikinis or lingerie, this was much less revealing.
Out in the living room, her family was waiting. Pumala stood there, holding Kiana's platinum star-shaped badge, signifying the girl was a registered adventurer. Valay had asked Kiana about the badge that had been hand-delivered by guildmaster Graval the day before, the human man wishing the new adventurer a happy birthday. Kiana had explained that she was now officially an adventurer, but a freelance adventurer. She then had to explain that the local guild was a branch of the international inter-adventurer guild association. For freelance adventurers, a platinum ranking was the highest ranking they could achieve. If they wished to rank higher, they needed to join an official guild, like Unicorn Riot or Phoenix Phist. Basically, the guild in their town was just for beginners. The bunny girl was considering joining a real guild, but wanted to first travel and do some missions, and then look in on the different guilds and find out which one she would be most comfortable with.
"Go out there and have an awesome adventure!" Valay said, his voice choking up a bit. He looked away and wiped his eyes before hugging Kiana.
"Yeah, and be sure to tell us all about the places you go and the things you do!" Malay said, her own eyes moist. Kiana felt the hot prickle of tears at the back of hers and furiously blinked them away as she returned their hugs.
"Count on it," she said with a smile. The two letting go, Pumala stepped forward and pinned the badge on Kiana's halter top, her own eyes misty.
"I'm so proud of you, honey-bunny," she said, now doing the hugging. Kiana hugged back, having to blink away some tears again.
"I love you, Mama," she said, being kissed on her forehead.
"I love you too, baby," Pumala said. The older bunny woman, who now had a slight baby bump again, stepped back as her large wolf-man husband strode forward. He tried to look stern, but the silent tears streaming down his face ruined the impression. He threw his arms around Kiana and wrapped her in a bone-crushing hug.
"Oh, my little princess is going awaaaaaaaaay!" he sobbed, much to everyone's collective embarrassment.
"I'll be back to visit, Papa," Kiana said, trying to gently pry his arms off.
"Be careful out there on the road, sweetie!" he sobbed again, his tail tucked between his legs.
"I will, Papa, I promise." Kiana smiled as he let go, and walked to the door. She turned and waved to her family, before turning back and opening the door. Just after she took her first step, she felt a jolt and something wrap around her right leg. Looking down, she saw her father, clinging to her leg like a toddler.
"Feli, let go of Kiana's leg right this instant!" Pumala called, while the twins, still saddened by their big sister's departure, shared a giggle at their father's antics.
"Never!" he called back, tightening his grip. Kiana rolled her eyes and smiled back at her mom.
"Don't worry, he'll fall off or I'll manage to shake him off before I get to the bridge," she said, starting to walk, albeit with an awkward gait. She whistled and Mirabelle, now sporting a new pink ribbon around her neck, came slithering after. Kiana's friends were near the gate for a send-off, which was made a little awkward by the still sobbing grown wolf clinging to the now mildly annoyed bunny girl's leg. She thanked them all and hugged each one, before stopping at the gate itself. She raised the leg her father was on, and began to shake. After a few moments, Felixin went flying and landed in the dirt with an 'OMPH!' Kiana waited as he got up and dusted himself off, wiping his face with the sleeve of his red robes, and walked over to her.
"I love you, Princess," he said, looking Kiana in the eyes and forcing a smile, "from the very day you were born, you were always my little princess, and it's just so hard to see you go. But please, know that I love you, and that not only am I already proud of what you've managed to accomplish, but that I know I'll be proud of the things you do out in the world."
Kiana, fresh tears of her own falling, pulled her Papa into one more hug, now the one making it a bone-crushing hug.
"I love you, Papa. I'm so lucky that I got to have you and Mama for parents. I'll be back before you know it," she said, wiping her own eyes. Felixin stepped back and continued to smile at his little girl. Kiana smiled back and, snapping her fingers to pull Mirabelle away from a gate guard's unattended bag lunch, the two set off, with Kiana turning back once to wave goodbye, before they finally crossed the bridge, and were on their way out into the wide world.

I had this idea of mine to make sure that House Targaryen stays in idea for thousands of years 1- Aegon I after cooking Harren the Black in his castle should have added the riverlands into his domain instead of giving it to House Tully, there was some houses who thought that riverlands should have given to them by making the entire land answer to the Iron Throne there would no undermine the authority of the lord paramount 2- after the field of fire Aegon should have spilt the reach into two regions western reach and eastern reach (now I know many people would say this won't work it's just an idea) many lords of the reach would object to it but I don't think they could've done anything since they were in a delicate situation their king and the house that ruled them for thousands of years was dead. 3- Anointing Ser Quentin Qoherys lord paramount of the eastern reach and warden of the south same as no'2 it might not work and reachers lord won't accept but I disagree (correct me if I wrong) but William the Conqueror gave alot of his people positions of power why Aegon should not William had armies to force well Aegon have dragons and have Ser Quentin's to marry a reach lady a fossway for example it would give them more legitimacy 3.1 give highgarden to the tyrell and make house tarly as lord paramounts of the western reach 4- having more children there is suggestions that Aegon was infertile but he still managed to have Aenys since Maegor was born, try have more 2 daughters one for each son (I am Pro-Valyrian btw) Aenys marrying his sister from Visenya instead Alyssa Velaryon political it's good it would stop people like the Hightowers from having ideas the war of the faith militant would start early but Aegon is not Maegor he would crush them and offer them the same deal Jaehaerys I made 5- give Harnehall to Maegor and marry him to his sister from Rhaenys order him to start building a standing army that answer to the crown directly make him Warden of the Trident he would be responsible on organising troops Maegor lived for wars and tourneys and meeles there is no man Aegon could trust to build an army worthy of the dragon than Maegor, give him attention and praise at his prowess make sure he never becomes cruel I think Maegor did what he did because he wanted to live up to his father's name 6- Regarding the succession in order to appease the lords because I am sure I pissed them alot make a son before a daughter and niece before an uncle 7- the most important point is that Aegon should the high septon that House Targaryen will respect the faith and protect but never follow it and they should respect the Targaryens traditions a petition could be made that the Targaryens originated from Old Valyria not Andlos 8- building a dragon pit without chains I read that the dragon pit was big and deep could dragons the likes of Balerion and Vhagar so dig the hill and make it like the Dragonmount 8.5 on Visenya's hill build a small citadel for people to study, send people to oldtown to become maesters and septons a couple of centuries house Targaryen controls the faith, the people of the citadel would report to you and if they sniffed something wrong like the faith wants to rebel get rid of him and make sure the next one have the best interest for Targaryen. 9- make sure Rhaenys doesn't die I mean the dornish had the biggest plot armor and the fact that no lord turned on the Martells after Aegon and Visenya burned their castles and cities during the time know as the dragon's wroth, Aegon should've melted sunspear at Meria's head and having a siege on Dorne make them starve give it a couple of years and every lord would call for the Martells head also offer lord Yrownwood Dorne the Yrownwoods are like the boltons would turn on the martells and they are powerful. 10 and the last- make sure Aenys doesn't grow up weak and if he did then bring him good counsellors not sycophants and lickspittles have good relationship with Visenya. This is my Idea sorry If I got carried away submitted by Unable-City7461 to TheCitadel [link] [comments]
