2023.05.28 08:51 Reindit SSH host key from TPM?
Hello,
I'm trying to achieve a situation where I can generate a persistent ssh host key every boot. My (custom) initramfs is build into the kernel which is signed and securely booted with my own PK in TPM.
In the initramfs I have build tpm2-tools, dropbear and cryptsetup alike for decryption of the main rootFS, based on TPM2 PCRs/LUKS.
Now in case any of the PCRs change the rootfs will not mount and I will be in a situation where I'll have to ssh in and decide if I want to accept any changes in the PCR registers and add a new unseal policy to allow luks decryption which more or less works fine.
The challenge comes that I do not store dropbear ssh host keys in the initramfs, figuring they would be readable from the signed efi kernel by taking out the bootdisk and thus would allow mitm/decryption of my ssh session while manually logging in to fix the pcluks decription.
This makes it so that I get the obvious warning that the host key changed everytime I ssh into initramfs.
My thinking is there should be a way to get, or more likely generate, a fixed host key from TPM/PCR to feed to dropbear that would not live on the boot disk.
Anyone have any suggestions how to do this? All TPM/ssh examples I find are for the easy solution to store client keys, not the host key...

2023.05.28 08:49 Mattrapbeats Making first 10 sales with $0 marketing budget
Last week I made a post about generating 2.5 million in sales for a client without spending a dime on ads. The thing is, I did this on a brand that already did over a million in sales the year before. I got a bunch of messages from people that don't already have established brands but thought they could benefit from organic traffic. So I made this post, I'll explain exactly how you can generate sales with literally nothing other than time and a website.
Quick disclaimer, it's 10x harder to make your first 10 sales if you don't have a marketing budget or an existing audience to market to. You're going to have to consistently spend multiple hours a day working to accomplish anything. Not just mindless work either, you're going to have to be a critical thinker and have a basic understanding of human psychology to see any type of success using these methods. If you don't have time to do that, you won't see any results from these methods and you might as well stop reading now.
Now that we've cleared that up let's get to the good stuff. Here's how you make your first 10 sales without spending any money on marketing.
In order to get sales you need traffic. You can't test anything or sell anything if no one visits your site.
So here are 3 ways to generate traffic for free:
- Become a member of the community that your customers interact in
In my last post, I explained how I built a community from scratch, but at this point, I'm assuming you don't have time to spend 3 months building a community if you haven't even proven that anyone wants to buy your products. So I'm going to teach you how to piggyback off existing communities.
It is easier said than done, but 1 good post can get easily get you your first 5 sales. You can do this on Reddit, in Facebook groups, or any other type of niche relevant group/forum. If the people in these communities think you're trying to sell something you'll probably just get banned and people will actually get mad at you for trying to sell your products. The trick is being a casual, you want to put yourself in the shoes of your ideal customer. Don't even mention your products in your first 2-3 posts. Maybe ask niche relevant questions, or provide value in comments under other people's posts and show people that you have a genuine interest in the topic. Think of this like warming up your account.
Now when it's time to sell, you do it in the most discreet way possible. The better your product is, the easier it is to do this. This is the fastest way to find out if your product is actually useful and if there's actually demand for your product. The best way to promote your product and create brand recognition is with lifestyle content. Never post a product photo with a white background in a community group. NEVER!
I'll give you a few examples of how to post product pics correctly:
Example 1 niche: dog niche
product: dog collar
You take a dog to a beautiful place. Maybe a beach by the water and you get a whole photoshoot with the dog. Bring lots of treats and showcase a happy dog wearing the collar you sell. Now you don't post the entire photoshoot in the group. You post 1 picture, not necessarily the best picture or the most professional looking one. You want to post the picture that evokes the most emotion. It's the picture with the dog making a funny face, or another dog sniffing your dog's butt, or the pic with your dog in bliss chewing his favorite treat that goes viral. Pick a picture that'll start a discussion and reply to every single comment. Then, once the post does well, without a doubt someone will ask about your product. That's when you come in and give a shoutout to the site that you got it from. If no one does this, you can literally create a fake account and ask/answer the question on your own. You're basically creating the perception of product demand.
Example 2 niche: food and beverage/electronics
Product: digital thermometer
Imagine... It's steak night, you fire up the BBQ and you want the perfect steaks! We're selling the dream of a perfectly cooked steak, not a digital thermometer. You post 2 pictures. Picture 1 is the steak on the grill with the thermometer showing the perfect temperature. Picture 2 shows the perfectly sliced steak being served. Try to capture someone that stirs emotions in the picture, whether it's a happy grandma, a kid with the steak on his fork, or a hungry pet drooling and looking at your plate. Emotion is what sells the product. Make sure you have a caption that conveys the message that you're trying to send. Use something short and simple but also try your best to convey a story. Further, convey the imagery in the comments ex. "Inlaws are over, got this thermometer to make sure everything was cooked perfectly, Now everyone thinks I actually know how to cook."
Example 3 Niche: candles
Product: candle
"Midterms are around the corner, sparked my favorite scent to set the mood tonight" (caption for the post in studying group or collage group) + a picture of an opened textbook and candle in the background, but you can clearly still see the candle label. This example is for the people who have general products. It may actually be harder for you to sell a candle in a candle subreddit because there are just too many options. So you get into the mind of your customers, you imagine the scenario your customer is in when they use your product, and you sell the feeling of enjoying the product in a situation that they've experienced before.
In the comments, you describe the scent in detail and you talk about how you prefer this candle over the one you got at Bath and Body Works because it's made from natural materials.
If you do this right, consistently. Eventually one of your posts will go viral and without a doubt that will convert into a sale.
2. Grow social media organically This is a lot easier if you can afford to order the product that you sell. But it's still possible to make this work if you can't get the product in your hands.
With this method, you're essentially picking up a new part-time job. You are now a social media manager, you work 20 hours a week and create and post new content on multiple platforms every single day. You want to take advantage of platforms that favor new accounts. A great place to start is Tiktok but Instagram reels is pretty good too. Tiktok boosts the reach of new accounts, you can see a lot of success blitzing a new Tiktok account (2-5 posts a day). The Instagram algorithm boosts accounts that post a lot of reels because for a good while Tiktok was destroying them with short term content. (Fun fact this feud between platforms is so deep that if you make a video on Tiktok and you cross-post it on Instagram without removing the Tiktok watermark, the Instagram algorithm will suppress the reach of the video)
You want to focus on making short videos with a focus on real-life use cases of your product. I'd break this down into 3 steps.
A. Research
B. Content Testing
C. Doubling down on what gets traction
It can take weeks or even months to get a good feel for how to create engaging content. The true key is consistency. At the end of the day, it's gonna come down to volume. Not just any volume, but a high volume of quality content. Whatever platform that you decide to use, I suggest watching at least 4 hours of content on youtube from experts on the platform. You'll pick up a bunch of tricks and tips. It's important that you understand how the algorithm works on different platforms to see any type of success doing this. I wouldn't suggest attempting to scale on more than 3 platforms at once. In fact, it's actually better to focus on 1 platform and do it well over splitting your time into other platforms trying to scale 3 pages at the same time. Don't spread yourself too thin.
3. Elite cart protection If you do under 10k a month most email marketing is irrelevant. People with startup brands book calls with me all the time and I tell them the same thing. You need traffic before there's anything I can do to help you other than give some basic advice. However, there are 3 automated email flows that actually can make an impact at this point. These flows are the welcome series, the abandoned cart, and the browse abandonment. Most email platforms are free and they charge based on volume. So in most cases, this won't cost you anything. Sites like Klaviyo make it very easy to set up the basics. Don't overthink this at all, at this point you don't need beautiful designs or stand-out copywriting. You simply need to just follow up with the interested potential customers that visit your site. A healthy store converts 3% of its traffic, 7/10 people who add things to their cart don't complete a purchase. You have a second chance at converting 97% of the people that visit your site if you actually follow up with them.
I've made entire posts about how to set flows up correctly so I won't be expanding on this much more.
I know this post was a bit long-winded but if you've made it this far you must be serious. There's going to be a bunch of people that read this thread and take no action that'll stay at 0 sales. The beauty of life is that you get to choose what happens next.
With that being said, thanks so taking the time out of your day to read my post. I hope even some of the bigger brand owners were able to get something out of this post. I look forward to seeing some of you guys make your first few sales in the coming weeks. As always feel free to add onto things that I missed, or maybe share what worked for you. I'll reply to everything that I see.

2023.05.28 08:49 Natalie_UwU_ [F/GM4F] Lesbians, Androids, and Giant Robots (Gundam-inspired Mecha RP)
You close the door of the black sedan behind you and assume a comfortable position in the leather seat. The driver doesn't say a word to you, the only acknowledgement of your presence being the quiet rumble of the engine as your ride takes off. A quick look through the dimmed window reveals an open field of concrete with some plain warehouses scattered around and several dozen people tending to pieces of machinery, but the speed at which you're going makes you unable to examine them closer. You've never seen this part of the military base. The one you're familar with was filled with everpresent mud, cramped barracks that reeked of unwashed recruit bodies, and sergeants with voices so loud they almost destroyed your eardrums. It's definitely not a place you'll remember fondly. A month of exhausting drills and boring mental tests is what took your superiors to get your sorry rear in shape they were content with, and even then you wondered if it was enough. You're just a regular civilian, so what are they expecting you to do here, exactly? Especially now, since you were chosen to take part in something bigger than becoming yet another crossed out name on the list of fresh cannon fodder.
Before you can begin contemplating your life choices, something bright in front of you draws your attention. A screen built into the back of the seat in front of you lights up, greeting you with a logo of Whitehart Motors. Suddenly, you hear a voice that could only be described as lifeless and robotic.
Welcome, new recruit. We are honored to have you here - a brave soul willing to become a stalwart shield of our glorious nation. You may not think that you are fit for such a role, but you were chosen for a reason. We believe that you have the skills required to become a pilot of a Synchro Frame. The brainchild of Whitehart Motors and the Research Institute of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Synchro Frames were built to protect our country from threats from beyond. Utilising the former's cutting edge machinery together with the latter's advancements in the field of man-made life, we managed to create a true marvel of technology that continues to impress. As a Synchro Pilot of the GLD-02 "Grail Seeker", you will be tasked with controlling a Synchro Frame alongside a Synchro Operator - an artificial lifeform designed to bring out the true potential of a Synchro Frame. Your assigned Synchro Operator will also serve as a teacher, guide, and companion, always ready to answer any and all questions you might have. We hope th-
The car stops, and silence once again fills the luxurious interior. Before you can start questioning the incredibly confusing and vague things you just heard, you feel that it's time for you to exit the vehicle. What you find outside is a hangar, bigger than any you've seen before. You're standing right in front of its giant doors, and as soon as you turn your head to look for anyone that might be looking for you, they begin to open. Through the slowly widening crack, illuminated by the bright midday sun, you see something that takes your breath away. A steel giant in the shape of a human, so large that you never even considered the possibility of such a machine existing. Not until today.
There's something else as well. A much, much smaller figure steps out of the hangar and heads in your direction. A couple moments pass, and you're able to see that it resembles a woman wearing an oversized hoodie and baseball cap, her long, white hair flowing in the wind as she walks.
"Greetings. I assume you're my new pilot." She stops right before you and extends her hand. A piercing blue gaze meets your own eyes. "I hope you can lead me well."
Hello there! I hope you enjoyed this little introduction to the concept! This prompt is centered around the idea of your character becoming a mecha pilot of a Synchro - a union of a giant robot and an android sharing an empathic link - and being thrown into a massive conflict where the life of an individual doesn't particularly matter. Your primary objective here is survival, and perhaps learning more about the mystery of the war your nation is currently fighting.
A little bit about myself - I'm a 21 year old gal from the GMT+2 timezone who got into Gundam a few months ago thanks to Witch from Mercury. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it! It's what prompted me to watch yet another Gundam series - Iron-Blooded Orphans, which I haven't finished yet. Thanks to them I realized just how fun a mecha setting could be, and now I'd love to meet other people who think the same!
This rp is meant to follow a lot of the themes of the Gundam series, like the horrors of war and discrimination, but that doesn't mean there can't be some lighter moments or bonding with your friends, resulting in potential romance. However, I'm planning for this to be a long rp, so anyone wanting to hold hands with your cute android companion will have to be patient.
I'd like to assume a sort of a GM role where I control the world and most of the characters, while you'll be following along a certain route due to having to answer orders from your superiors, you will be free to do what you want during downtime, so I'm heavily encouraging people who enjoy taking initiative! Hell, you could even defect from the military with your giant robot and join the opposite side if you'd like, but remember that your actions have consequences!
As for your character, there are only two strict requirements - she has to be a woman, as I have no interest in writing romance with male characters, and she has to be a new recruit, like described in my introduction. Aside from that, get creative! Doesn't matter if she's cis or trans, younger or older, all I'm looking for are fun ideas that will the roleplay more enjoyable. I will share more info on the setting in private messages, but feel free to just spitball anything that you might find interesting.
Requirements for you, the player, are a bit more strict, but I'd like to ensure that I set the right expectations: - No misogynists, racists, homophobes, transphobes. I'm a trans lesbian and if you're the kind of [REDACTED] who would have a problem with this then don't even bother wasting my time. - Be literate. Usually I write between 3 and 6 paragraphs, sometimes even more, but for a good time with me you'll be fine with 2-3 solid paragraphs that will give me something to work with. If you give me more, then I'll personally kiss you. - Be flexible. I have ADHD and a lot on my plate thanks to college, so I'm not the great at replying consistently. Sometimes you'll get two responses in a day, sometimes none for a week. Make sure to keep that in mind. You don't have to worry about me nagging you over a response either. - Use Discord. It's the only platform I use to rp due to the ease of storing important information. As a part of that, do not contact me using reddit chat. All chat requests will be ignored. - (Optional but appreciated) Talk to me! I enjoy chatting with my roleplay partners a lot, as I believe good ooc often leads to good ic.
I think that's everything! Haven't made a prompt post in a while so I might go back and edit some stuff later, but hopefully I was able to interest you in the concept. Have a nice day!

2023.05.28 08:43 GoodMorningMrFrog Dance of Cards - GoodMorningMrFrog - Story-driven Poker Battle Royale (Now with Multiplayer!)
[About me] Hello everyone! I am the solo developer of
Dance of Cards and I am happy to have the opportunity to connect with you again and share news about my game.

https://discord.gg/eu9rK2SBer [Description] Dance of Cards is a
story-driven poker battle royale where you play as a magician travelling to the New World on a seven-day cruise. But things quickly take an unexpected turn when the crew forces the passengers to compete in a deadly game of poker, with the caveat that whoever loses will die.
You will form alliances with other passengers, search for clues to your mysterious situation, and decide who to save on this journey.
[Gameplay] At the heart of the game is
poker, and it will come in spades (pun intended). Each night, you and one other team will face each other at the table in a wild and exciting battle. However, you won't be playing a standard game of poker, as each character has something to bring to the table (pun not intended) and offers their talents, which are essentially special abilities that allow you to alter the flow of the game in some way. Bribing, stealing, taxing or putting others to sleep are just a few examples.
Mastering this system is the key to victory, as those who play fair will quickly find themselves out of chips, unlike their sneaky opponents.
[Multiplayer] Something I've always wanted to implement was the multiplayer mode, so that players from all over the world could pick their dream team of characters and play against others, and I'm happy to announce that online play is now possible! It can be accessed from the Extras menu on the title screen. If you're looking for opponents, join the
Discord.
Have a great Sunday!

2023.05.28 08:43 PianistRight WHAT IF: Imagine Dragons went on the Origins Tour
So, here’s what I came up with for if Imagine Dragons toured Origins.
DISCLAIMER: This is a work of fiction
Part 1: The Beginning of the Tour
On December 21, 2018, Imagine Dragons announced the first US Leg for the Origins Tour, originally set from March 6 to April 17, 2019, with shows in Atlanta, Jacksonville, Tampa, Sunrise, Columbia, Raleigh, New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Boise, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City. 2 weeks later, they announced shows for Canada, lasting from April 28 to May 26, 2019, with shows in Quebec, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Victoria, Ontario, Winnipeg, Moncton, Saskatoon, Calgary, Vancouver, and Edmonton.
On January 27, 2019, the band announced Europe tour dates, lasting from June 6 to July 27, 2019, with shows in Riga, Vienna, Prague, Rome, Odense, Berlin, Madrid, Stockholm, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Kyiv, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Frankfurt, Werchter, and Gdynia.
On March 6, 2019, the Origins Tour began in Atlanta, GA. Opening Acts included Grouplove, Lil Wayne, and Elisa. In Canada, Yungblud replaced Grouplove for opening act, after Grouplove completed touring with Imagine Dragons on the US leg.
On April 20, 2019, tour dates were announced for South America and Central America, lasting from August 31 to November 6, 2019. With shows in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Curitiba, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Quito, Lima, Caracas, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.
Part 2: Europe, Latin America, and addition of more dates
On June 6, 2019, Imagine Dragons brought the Origins Tour to Europe, beginning in Riga, Latvia. Opening Acts included Grace Vanderwaal (again), and AJR.
Just like in years past, they omitted the acoustic set for festivals.
On August 31, 2019, the Latin American tour began in Rio de Janeiro. Opening acts included K.Flay, Lil Wayne, and AJR
On December 6, 2019, one month after the Latin America Leg ended, Imagine Dragons announced 2020 tour dates for North America, lasting from January 28 to March 20, 2020, with shows in Boca Raton, Orlando, Tallahassee, Montgomery, Nashville, Austin, Dallas, New Orleans, Dallas, Albuquerque, Philadelphia, Detroit, Minneapolis, Denver, Las Vegas, Kansas City, and Boston.
On December 14, they announced dates for Asia, Oceania, and South Africa, lasting from April 5 to June 26, 2020.
Part 3: Early end + Covid-19
On January 28, 2020, Imagine Dragons began the new US leg of the tour in Boca Raton, FL.
With a new coronavirus being unleashed in Wuhan, China, Imagine Dragons announced that they will put the shows in the neighboring countries, including Hong Kong, on hold while the countries deal with this new outbreak.
Nonetheless, the continued touring the US. On March 11, 2020, Covid-19 was declared a pandemic by the WHO. Luckily the band performed at Las Vegas, their hometown, when the declaration was made. But 2 days later, lockdown orders were put in place. The Kansas City show was not scheduled until March 18, so they did not leave yet. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tour dates were postponed on March 15, 2020, and the tour was ultimately cancelled on May 2, 2020, bringing an early end to the tour. After the cancellation of the remainder of the Origins Tour, refunds were made available to all fans who ordered tickets before the cancellation.

2023.05.28 08:36 yeahsure-whatever Is there a camera cage for a different camera that will fit my Rebel T8i?
I'm brand new to cameras and don't know very much, but I recently purchased a Rebel T8i for filmmaking. At a recent film festival, I won a lot of money towards the Tilta camera store, which I would like to spend on a cage. However, they don't sell anything for the Rebel T8i. I was wondering, as I'm very new and don't really understand this stuff yet, if there are cages marked for other cameras that would still fit the Rebel T8i?
Apologies if this is a stupid question. If this isn't the proper subreddit for this, feel free to direct me to a better one!

2023.05.28 08:33 -Bonjour-- More Madeir
From my travel report (2014):
The second trip to Madeira we made to escape the winter. The weather was like a moody diva in winter. It changes not only from day to day, but also within a few hours. So you can never plan anything for the next day, because you should not think, today it is so nice and sunny and warm, it will be the same tomorrow. But if you are unlucky, the next morning it will be completely cloudy, only to possibly be sunny again in the afternoon.
It is always a pleasure to stroll in FUNCHAL's old town. Here times an ice cream to eat, there a coffee possibly with Nata to take. But this should be done when there are no cruise ships in the harbor. Then you see fortunately more locals than tourists in the streets.
For football fans: Christiano Ronaldo, who comes from Madeira, now has his own museum in Funchal - eagerly visited by his - mostly young - supporters...
Funchal is spreading out more and more - the slopes all around are already built on, and in the hotel zone construction continues eagerly. Although it is obvious that in the newly built apartment houses still very many apartments are empty.
The first two weeks we booked apartment at about 350 m altitude with a beautiful view of Funchal. The disadvantage was that it became - especially in the evening - but quite cool. Fortunately we had not only an electric heater but also a fireplace in the apartment.
From up here you can see how Funchal has grown in recent years. It is a huge sea of houses, which goes up to all the adjacent hills.
For the second part of our stay we had chosen an apartment house at Praia do Formosa with direct view to the sea and also to Cabo Girao.
One of the most beautiful and varied gardens of Madeira is located only about 9 km east of Funchal: the Palheiro or Blandy's Gardens. In 1801, the property was purchased by Count Carvalhal. A hunting lodge was built and the count had exotic trees imported from all over the world. The count's descendants squandered the fortune, and so in 1885 the estate became the property of the Blandy family of wine merchants. The villa above the garden is still inhabited by the Blandy family and is not accessible.
The gardens are famous not only for the variety of (often exotic) plants but also for their location on a 500 m high hill with a magnificent view of the bay of Funchal. The Count's hunting lodge was renovated in 1997 and is now the exclusive hotel "Quinta Velha do Palheiro".
The gardens are divided into the main garden, the sunken garden, the valley of hell (Inferno) with mighty fern trees, the rose garden, the ladies garden and the tea house area. There are also ponds with water lilies and beautiful flower beds.
Some of the numerous trees are 100 years old. The garden has been constantly developed. Hibiscus, bougainvilleas, jacaranda, African tulip trees, coral trees and orchid trees grow here. The Blandy family imported proteas from South Africa and had a rose garden planted and a small baroque chapel built. The gardens are also famous for their numerous camellias and magnolias.
The orchid garden, created by an Austrian, apparently has more than 5000 plants and is located below the botanical garden. At the moment the orchid garden is closed, because in the big fire of 2016 in Funchal not only many houses were destroyed, but also great damage was done to the orchid garden.
Carnival is also celebrated in Madeira and by chance we saw a children's parade. It was interesting to see with which eagerness the children were partly "there". Therefore, there will probably be no problem with carnivalistic offspring in Funchal.
The town of RIBEIRA BRAVA is located at the mouth of a wide - sometimes wild (brava) river (ribeira). From Funchal there is a highway to get there. In Ribeira Brava there is a wide pebble beach, and on the other side of the promenade there are cafes and restaurants. In the historic center there are small stores, and here is also the pink town hall from the late 18th century
The Igreja de Sao Bento was built as early as 1440, but was given a new look during the Baroque period. The spire with the white-blue tile pattern and the sphere symbol of the Portuguese explorers is striking.
We still drove to Punta do Sol. This place lies between two high rocky capes. In the old core there are only a few houses and the church, behind it already begin the terraced banana fields. There is a pebble beach and on the promenade you can have a drink in small cafes. Except for us, there were hardly any tourists in the village. But here we drank the best poncha on the island. Poncha (made of honey, lemon juice and sugar cane brandy) is a kind of national drink on Madeira.
The village of Camara de Lobos - situated between two rocky cliffs - is only 9 km away from Funchal. Camara de Lobos is still a typical fishing village with the many colorful boats (xavelhas) that you can admire in the small harbor. A small church was built at the harbor early on, this was remodeled in 1420 and the current Capella Nossa Senhora de Conceicao was built.
There is still fishing and some boat building in Camara de Lobos. However, these are no longer particularly lucrative, so tourism is now a larger source of income. The fishermen in this area mainly catch the black scabbardfish (Espada), which is offered in many restaurants - also in Funchal.
There is a promenade path from the Lido in Funchal to Camara de Lobos since 2011. The path - always with a view of Cabo Girao - is partly concreted and partly laid out on wooden walkways. If you walk in the direction of Camara de Lobos, you can see the approaching waves of the Atlantic Ocean on the left and the partly high cliffs on the right. Not far behind Praia de Formosa there are some beach bars or restaurants where you can have a drink or eat quite well.
Cabo Girao near Camara de Lobos is one of the highest cliffs in the world. More than 500 m the land here falls almost vertically into the sea. Since our last visit, things had changed here, there was now a large parking lot. Then the cafes and souvenir stores were also new for us. And surprising for us was also the glass viewing platform, which exists since the end of 2012. Here you can see that wine and vegetables are grown on the small rocky outcrops. The farmers can reach their fields on the coastal fringe with a cable car. Before the cable car was built, these fields were only accessible by boat.
From Funchal it was not far to CANICO. The original village became in the course of time one of the most important tourist places on Madeira. Large hotel complexes, apartment buildings and villas were built. However, we turned off before we reached the town in order to get to Ponta do Garajau. There on a rock cliff is the 14 m high Christo Rei statue, which was erected in 1927. From here you have a beautiful view of Funchal. Since 2007, there is a cable car nearby that goes 200 m down to the pebble beach.
CURRAL DAS FREIRAS is a small village nestled between huge almost vertical mountain slopes in the heart of Madeira. There is only one road that leads serpentine to the 633 m high valley. Originally the valley was inhabited by nomads and shepherds. Towards the end of the 15th century, the land became the property of the nuns of the Santa Clara convent.
The name Curral das Freiras means "pen of the nuns". In the 16th and 17th centuries, the island was repeatedly attacked by pirates, and the nuns retreated here to the protection of the mountains, which are up to 700 meters high. Here people still live from what they grow themselves on their fertile fields. One of the specialties of the village is chestnuts. They are used to make liqueur, cakes, bread and soups, which are also sold to tourists. On November 1 of each year, the Chestnut Festival is held here.
Not many tourists come to SANTA CRUZ, although this place is certainly worth a visit. There is quite a pretty old town with the church of San Salvador built in 1533 as well as like a large modern market hall just behind the long gray pebble beach lined with date palms.
Just north of Santa Cruz is Madeira Island's airport, renamed "Cristiano Ronaldo" Airport in 2007. Opened in 1964 and reconstructed in 2000, this airport is one of the most dangerous in the world. The 2777 m long runway is built on the rocky coast above the water and looks like a bridge with large concrete supports. A large parking lot has been built below this runway.
Before the landing approach, the mountain massif must be overcome so that the narrow runway can be approached. Unfortunately, there have been numerous accidents, but this is still one of the busiest airports in Portugal.
From Santa Cruz we drove to MACHICO, one of the larger towns of Madeira. Machico profited from sugar cane cultivation in the 15th century and is now a modern town, which is divided into two halves by the Ribeira da Machico. On the eastern bank of the river is the historic fishing quarter with the main square surrounded by tall laurel trees.
The town church of Nossa Senhora da Conceicao in the center was built in the 15th century and partially rebuilt in the 18th century. Opposite stands the town hall built in the early 20th century There are several fish restaurants here.
In the surroundings of the small village FAIAL there is still a lot of agriculture, e.g. wine and fruit growing. The village is dominated by the 600 m high Eagle Rock. Only a few tourists come here, because there is hardly anything worth seeing.
Most people come to Santana to see the famous "Casas de colmo". In total there are still about a hundred of these thatched historic wooden houses. They are very scattered throughout the municipality.
On the way back to Funchal we passed through Ribera fria. Here you can take a short hike up to the Miradouro dos Balcoes, from where you have a beautiful view of the mountains.
The peninsula PONTA DE SAO LOURENCO is 9 km long and 2 km wide. In 1982 it was declared a nature reserve, mainly to ensure the preservation of the fauna with the great variety of birds and the great occurrence of the native flora. The eastern tip of Madeira is barren and windy. One can no longer imagine that everything here was lushly forested.
Then, in spring, a carpet of flowers enlivens the bare hilltops. But also in other seasons the turquoise sea and the rocks in different shades - ocher, rust, gray and green-black - bring color to the area.
The south coast can be easily approached by boats, which is almost impossible on the drastically shaped north coast with its strong winds. There is a paved access road to the parking lot above Baia de Abra. Here you can also take the public bus.
From there there is a popular rocky hiking trail. This hike is absolutely not a walk. There are some climbs, often wooden stairs. You have no shade and are exposed to gusts of wind. To avoid being blown down somewhere, I ducked down and waited out the sometimes strong gusts - really quite extreme.
At the narrowest point with a land bridge only a few meters wide, the rock drops almost 100 m vertically - fortunately the place is secured with a fence.
The hike takes - depending on your condition - 2 to 3 hours. It also depends on whether you only walk to the plateau of Casa Sardinha - administration of the national park - or if you want to make the ascent to Pico Furado. Below the Casa there are some tables for picnics. From there there is also an entrance for swimming, which can certainly be pleasant in the summer.
On the way there are always beautiful views of the sea and the rock formations - e.g. the so-called rock gate. On the south side you can see the cages of a fish farm in the sea. In front of Sao Lourenco there are two small islands, on one of them stands the oldest (from 1870) lighthouse of Madeira.
From the cape we drove to CANICAL, the easternmost municipality of Madeira. This place is still characterized by fishing and boat building. Fishing boats are still built here and there is a large repair yard.
Over the 1000 m high Encumeada Pass we drove northeast to Sao Vicente. Unfortunately the old coastal road to Seixal and Porto Moniz was closed and we had to drive through many tunnels. A few years ago it was a special experience to drive on the narrow and winding ER 101 directly at the coast - on one side the high cliffs and on the other side the sea. But apparently the road has become too dangerous in the meantime because of constant falling rocks.
We got to Porto Moniz , and unfortunately the weather got worse, more and more clouds came up. The sea raged with huge waves to the shore. Porto Moniz is a nice little town located on the northwestern tip of Madeira, a region with high mountains and views of the endless Atlantic Ocean.
From Porto Moniz you can go hiking, for example on the coastal trail "Levada da Ribeira da Janela", one of the best hiking trails in Madeira.
Porto Moniz is known for its volcanic pools. Daytrippers mostly come for these pools filled with sea water. These pools owe their formation to a lava tongue that flowed into the sea here thousands of years ago, creating caves due to the force of wind and waves. The black basalt lava pools form swimming pools and are the attraction of Porto Moniz, because you can swim (swim) in them very well - at least in good weather...
There are two different lava pools in Porto Moniz: the completely natural pools and the western pools, which have been transformed into natural outdoor pools - there are no sharp rocks here. The surrounding rocks of the outdoor pool were built as a terrace , and here you can sunbathe. The pools are open every day - even in winter. But when we were there, there was no one in the water....
The natural pools are not safe because of the black sharp basalt rocks. It is very interesting to watch the waves as they crash against the rocks. The water is sometimes whirled into the air in such a way that it looks like a geyser.
The PICO DE ARIEIRO is the most visited mountain of Madeira, because it is the only one that has been opened up with a road, but it is only the third highest. The road was probably built primarily for the observatory and not necessarily for the tourists. Already the approach through pristine landscape with rugged rock and sparse vegetation is an experience.
If the weather is good, you have a breathtaking view all around. Equally beautiful, however, is the sight of white cushions of clouds hanging between the high mountains. In winter there can be ice and snow on the peaks. Since it had snowed on Madeira about 2 weeks before our trip there, we could still see the sparse remnants on the shaded layers.
From Pico de Arieiro you can hike up to Pico Ruivo (1861 m) if the weather is good. At the beginning, the path is quite wide and in places secured by railings. Some then walk at least to the first viewpoint - the rocky peak Niho de Mata with beautiful views. The entire hike up to Pico Ruivo is clearly difficult, even if there are partially secured stairways since the 1960s. Some of the paths are steep up to 700 m, the rock steps are high, the paths are sometimes narrow and beaten, and it also goes through unlit tunnels. So you should have a good condition and be free from giddiness and sure-footed.

2023.05.28 08:23 SkutteOleg LOCOMOTORICA: Staggering Ragdoll - Oleg Skutte - QWOP-inspired 3D platformer where you manually control your legs
Title: LOCOMOTORICA: Staggering Ragdoll Platforms: Windows Trailer: https://youtu.be/7q6CYycFx94 Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1542630/ Release Date: May 26, 2023
Hi
Games, I'm a solo dev and I just released my game
LOCOMOTORICA: Staggering Ragdoll on Steam.
I worked on
Drunken Wrestlers 2 for the past 9 years, but last year I started feeling like I'm stuck in a hamster wheel. I then decided to make another small game just to try something new. One of my goals was to not repeat the mistakes I made with my previous game (namely feature creep, identity crisis, and technical debt), and accurately estimate my abilities.
I always liked physics games, and games with unique mechanics that require mechanical skill to be good at. Besides Rocket League, one of such games is Getting Over It by Bennett Foddy, which I'm a big fan of. Bennett Foddy is a solo developer too, and the mechanics in his games looked like something I could do as well. At first I was thinking about making a game similar to Getting Over It but with a
grappling hook instead of a hammer, but that felt like too much of a rip-off. Then I remembered his other game,
QWOP, and immediately got a lot of ideas on how I could put my own spin on it.
But art isn't my strong suit, so I was looking for a setting for the game that would not require a lot of art. This led me to get inspiration from SIGGRAPH videos of
AI researchers training their deep reinforcement learning models to walk, and putting player in the shoes of these neural networks seemed like a fun idea. So, I coded an active ragdoll system where you control your legs with gamepad sticks and triggers, then made a variety of levels, and my girlfriend produced some awesome music for the soundtrack. I also made time attack mode where every level has a leaderboard with replays, so you can race against other people. Finally, I made a level editor and integrated it with Steam Workshop. And after 10 months of work, I've finally released it to Steam Early Access this week.
Thank you for reading, I'd be happy to hear what you think about this game.
Description:
...Have you ever seen these videos where neural networks learn to control physics-based characters? In LOCOMOTORICA: Staggering Ragdoll, YOU are the neural network.
ABOUT: You are in control of an active ragdoll in a computer physics simulation. Move your legs manually with out gamepad sticks and triggers to retain balance and walk. In this game your objective is to complete various tasks and levels. It can be challenging at first, as it is partially inspired by QWOP, a 2008 game by Bennett Foddy. But if you get a feel for it, you'll be able to walk, run, and navigate the environment with little effort.
FEATURES: - Innovative character controls and physics - 30+ challenging hand-crafted tasks - Endless procedurally generated levels - Leaderboards with replays to race against - Level Editor and Steam Workshop - Relaxing soundtrack

2023.05.28 08:20 klimora I'm a dad who made a picture puzzle for kids - check it out!
Hello everyone! I hope it's alright to share this with you :) I've developed a free app and would greatly appreciate your feedback.
I am a father who created an app specifically for my son to enjoy solving puzzles through pictures. As a child, I struggled with puzzles, so you can understand how excited I became when I discovered the joy of solving new picture puzzles and having fun.
One day, my 12-year-old son noticed my newfound interest and wanted to give it a try himself. However, he found computers to be quite challenging. That's when my team decided to develop a sliding picture app that caters to everyone, including kids.
We named the app "Picture Puzzle," and it is available completely free for the next 3 days. I would love to hear your valuable feedback, and if you have any suggestions for additional features or improvements, please don't hesitate to share them with us.
Download the app and let me know what you think?

2023.05.28 08:14 Equivalent-Mail-709 ‘Friend’ I rented a room out to doesn’t want to pay rent
I (M,20) am an owner of a family flat in London
Back in the summer of 2022, I discussed and came to an agreement with my former flatmate (we’ll call her C). The terms are £220 a week for 40 weeks starting on the 19th of September 2022, meaning the move out date would be the 26th of June 2023. We agreed with the payment schedule of paying rent every 4 weeks.
As I considered her to be a close friend, I decided that a lodger agreement will not be needed as I trusted her enough to pay on time and in full.
Over the time she stayed at the flat, she’s asked me if she could stay for another year. Which I reluctantly said yes to at the time but informed her that she should still look for alternative properties as I might change my mind or rent out the entire flat.
Her boyfriend secured an internship for the summer, so on the 4th of January 2023, C and I agreed to extend her stay at the flat to 52 weeks instead of 40 weeks via WhatsApp, meaning the move out date will be on the 18th of September 2023.
On the 19th of February 2023, C and her boyfriend bought a dog. Prior to buying the dog, she asked me if it was alright to have the dog at the flat. I agreed to it as long as C and her boyfriend treated the flat with respect and made sure the flat was kept in good condition.
Between the dog arriving at the flat and C and her boyfriend moving out, there has been multiple occasions where they would leave dog faeces on the balcony for hours. Sometimes, even on the indoor floor, they would leave the dog’s urine on it. They would often put dog products, dog bowls and even fur trimmings on the dining table and the table in front of the tv, which are often used for eating food.
I’ve voiced my concerns to them, asking them to clean the faeces and overall keep the place tidy and clean. They cleaned the flat a few times, then continued to leave urine on the indoor floor, leave fur and dog products on tables used to eat.
Over time, I got irritated by this. So I decided that letting C and her boyfriend stay for another year will not be an option. On the 30th of April 2023, I kindly informed them that I will not be renting to them next year and will be renting to my close friends instead. At first, they asked me when they should move out, I said the agreed move out date, which is the 18th of September 2023.
After a few days, C tells me she will no longer be extending the agreement from 40 weeks to 52 weeks. I accepted this as I understand why she does not want to extend. She also informed me that she is actively looking for a new flat and will move in as soon as her and her boyfriend have found a new flat. I told her I understand.
Fast forward to the 22nd of May, C and her boyfriend informed me they have found a new flat and will be moving to the new flat on the 26th of May, giving me 4 days notice.
On the 23rd of May, I texted C regarding the original 40 week agreement. I explained that even though she will be moving out early, the original agreement is still in place and that the final 4 weeks of rent is still due to be paid.
She avoided replying to my text for a whole day. It was only until I asked her boyfriend to read her messages, she replied saying that she does not want to pay the final 4 weeks of rent. She explained that because I broke the agreement of letting her and her boyfriend stay for another year (even though the price or move out date had not been agreed), it meant that it was only fair that the final 4 weeks won’t be paid. She said that she assumed she wasn’t going to have to pay for the time she wasn’t living here as a ‘gesture’ because I’m ‘kicking’ them out.
However, if we’re counting, she will breaking 2 agreements, firstly, the extension of 12 weeks from 40 to 52 weeks as well as the original 40 week agreement.
I have been nothing but kind and calm to them. I simply do not want to live with them for another year. I explained that one of the reasons I do not want to live with them is because of how they are treating the apartment. To which she responded with that I should’ve expected it as I agreed to them having the dog at the flat.
I told her that the most I can do is to knock down one week of rent (originally £880) as well as deducting £15 from the amount due as she purchased a separate fob to enter the building for her boyfriend. Coming to the total of £645 (£660 for 3 weeks of rent).
As we are all students, she explained that because she had to pay 6 months upfront with her new flat, she cannot afford to pay the rent she owes. She told me she will speak to her parents and get back to me around the 29th of May (the date the rent is due).
Obviously, I regret not making her sign a lodger agreement but if she doesn’t pay me, what are my options?

2023.05.28 08:11 Appropriate-Chard-76 New tenant causes rent increase
Our landlord is charging us $400/month more for adding a new tenant on the empty 4th bedroom in our lease. The contract we signed last month only has 4 people in it. We intended to have someone else take the last room to cover a portion of the rent since we really like the place.
My partner and I takes the master’s bedroom, while the other 2 takes one room each which leaves the 4th bedroom available. The house has 3 full baths, 1 powder room, and 2-car private garage + driveway (2). We only have 1 car even with the new tenant added. This proves the house is not overcrowded.
Since we signed the contract, is there nothing we can do about them increasing the price?
Also, do landlords have the right to leave their belongings and lock some of the cabinets even if they don’t live in the house? They left their 2 mattresses on our garage and locked one of the cabinets saying they have things stored inside. We were fine by it until this thing happened.

2023.05.28 08:09 Hanta_no_kage Advice on how to get a part time job in Cyber/IT or any job that pays around the 25k mark
Firstly, a bit of background on me to add context. I currently work as a front and back of house in London at a 'Restaurant'. I started the job last October and it was my first real job.
I decided on this role because I wanted to get over my stigma and slight anxiety of talking to people, thinking that having a customer facing role would allow me to meet a range of diverse people.
For the most part , I did 'see' new people, but not really have meaningful chats like I thought might happen.
I'm a cyber security student who has just finished their first year, so I plan to use these holidays to learn new skills for my resume and to find a job in IT/Cyber or any job that I can see myself doing around my uni schedule when I start my second year.
I understand that IT/Cyber us really hard to break into at an entry level and would also appreciate any advice on jobs that I could do to earn around the 25k mark as I don't want to rely on my parents or student finance to fund my education.
I apologise for the non cohesiveness of this; I hate making excuses so I won't blame this on my sleep deprivation.

2023.05.28 08:08 steeze206 Thoughts On The Specialized 2FO Roost MTB Shoes? Or Just Quality Alternatives To Five Ten?
I'm a pretty new rider. Came from BMX so have a lot of experience on a bike, but have only been into MTB for a few months now. I haven't had too many complaints with my combo of
BMX specific Vans and my Race Face Chesters. I've always had Vans and love them for riding and wearing around town. But since my current pair for riding has seen better days, I've been thinking about trying a pair of MTB specific shoes.
The obvious answer that you see online is Five Ten. But, I did some more research and came across a few different options. The one that caught my attention the most and is claimed to match the grip of Five Tens are the
Specialized 2FO Roost. Based on my research it seems like Five Tens have just been a notch above in terms of the compound they use on the sole locking you into your pedals. But
Vital MTB did a very comprehensive comparison of a ton of shoes and found that Specialized created a compound/sole that grips just as well as Five Tens.
Anyways, I dig the look of the Specialized a lot more. Just curious if anyone has any experience with them because I haven't seen much talk about them online. Have also heard good things about
Ride Concepts. Recently heard about the
Fox Union Flats and really like the design, but don't know much about them. Also stopped by a Trek storefront the other day and saw a pair of
Bontrager Flatlines that looked quite nice but I haven't heard a single thing about that brand or model.
Just looking to weigh my options. Five Tens are obviously great. But I guess I like to go against the grain sometimes lol. Surely Five Tens can't be the only option worth buying on the market? Have you gone on a journey driving to different bike shops and outdoor stores to find that perfect model? Let's hear about it. If you just heard Five Tens are great and went straight online to buy them. That's rad but probably doesn't bring a lot of perspective to how good they are in comparison to other options out there. I think we all know Five Tens are awesome. I'd really like to hear people who either used to ride Five Tens and switched, or went for a different option because you preferred them.

2023.05.28 08:08 Jake-anna My gf and I have never done this before but want to give it a try in Europe this summer
Hey guys. My gf and I have been dating a while and fantasize about swinging. What gets us going is seeing each other have sex in front of one another with other people.
We’re from Canada and both 24, she’s short and slim thick and I’m tall and athletic built.
We ideally want to do this in Europe during our two month backpacking tour this summer and are looking for advice. Our stops where we would make these experiences work would be Rome, Venice, nice, Paris, London and Amsterdam. We’ve read some helpful stuff already about Paris but other than that we’re new to the European swinging scene.
Any advice would be appreciated!

2023.05.28 08:02 Dense-Baker-2254 My dad got a new girlfriend and I hate her
Ok i'm not really sure where to start. Im 16 and non-binary and I know this sound really rude. Heres some backstory. Just over 2 years ago my mom passed away unexpectedly. Now i'm not new to loss in the years previously to losing my mom i've lost multiple other family members and friends including my uncle and grandfather, who were my only friends for a long time. Just after losing my mom my grandmother(Who we lived with at the time) decided to sell the house and we were homeless for a short period of time before finding the apartment we live in now. The first few weeks after the passing of my mom my dad(38F) was in and out of the psych ward. My Aunt(35F) helped a lot with taking care of us (things like doc appointments, school stuff, ect) and even has partial guardianship over me and my sister(14). Up until my dads current girlfriend(31F) there wasn't anyone she consistently dated. To make this easier to understand i'll call my dads girlfriend Jane They have been dating for a few months now and we (me, my sibling, and my aunt) finally met Jane. We meet up for lunch and everything went great. My sister loves her and she gets along well with my aunt. She's great and i can tell that she loves my dad and she makes my dad really happy but despite all that i cant help but resent her and i feel terrible for doing so she's done nothing for me to hate her to the point that i do. I guess in someway as stereotypical as it is a resent her cause it feels like i'm betraying my mom. Jane was in an accident as a teen and as such has memory issues. She tends to just say things without thinking because she doesn't want to forget it before she can say it and because of this there have been some really awkward convos and she has said some stuff that really upset me. The day that we met her, Jane, my dad, and my sister went to the store and stopped at the apartment. A rule that we have had set previously to meeting Jane was that she wasn't allowed to come to the apartment so that it would be a kinda "safe place." I went and hung-out with my aunt because she got a new game that I wanted to see(we are both gaming nerds) and my dad texted and asked if Jane could come up to the apartment when they stopped to grab something for my sister and I said it was alright as long as they stayed out of my room. Because the rule of Jane not being allowed over isn't in place anymore my dad has had Jane over multiple time as she was over today from about 10am - 7:30pm. It was great. She helped clean(my dad and sister struggle with hoarding), we walked to a little cafe nearby, went shopping, and Jane, my dad, and my sister went swimming. Like I said it was a great day and I can tell that my sister loves her and Jane makes my dad so happy but despite the great day I still just don't like her. It's really hard because Jane, my dad, and my sister get along so well and i just feel like an outsider. Before we lost my mom I had struggled a bit with feeling like an outsider in my own family but now I literally feel like i'm a stranger living in their home. She hasn't done anything to make me hate her but just doing anything with her feels wrong, like when we went to the cafe today. I don't know how to explain it but there was just this underlying feeling of wrongness i guess and i just don't know how to handle it. I don't really know how to explain it but thats it I guess I just really needed to admit it somewhere cause i felt like crap for hiding it. um I guess if anyone has any advice that would be nice. Im not really sure how this works. ive never posted on redit before but I just really needed to talk about it.
