2023.05.28 09:00 malamepos AITA: Friend refuses to engage with the story

My (21m) friend (22m) is playing through monster hunter stories 2 right now and the moment navirou shows up and starts speaking says “shut the fuck up” and skips whatever cutscene he was on, this is a little distressing for me since, I too am just a little guy (5’9) and don’t like others being bullied due to their height or general mascot marketability, we have gotten into a few debates about him and how integral he is in enjoying this game but he wont listen to me and I really think its starting to hurt our friendship

2023.05.28 08:32 Jaytiss Aful Performer 8

Aful Performer 8
Hi I wanted to post some quick impressions of the performances 8. I have a full review on head fi and it is linked below.
Ok, for the TL;DR first of this iem, just buy it. It’s S class for Technicals and S for tuning. It’s fantastic. Just don’t spend 999 for it, wait until it drops in price. I expect it to be around 400.
It’s a modern world, where we need to find value and technology in which we buy. I personally don’t want to buy a rebranded iem but something special. We live in a world of a race to the bottom really exists meaning that iems are getting better and cheaper as manufacturing becomes more efficient.
Not long ago I found a particular iem on a particular reviewer’s list. It was ranked fairly well for the price, and I seem to trust this reviewer. I took a gamble, and it paid off as it instantly became a benchmark and favorite for me.
This iem was the Aful 5, and I still find it an incredibly tuned iem with great retrieval, a major benchmark for the price, but not only that they were releasing the Aful 8 soon. I really enjoyed the Aful 5 and reached out to Aful about the 8 itself to learn more. I now have the Aful 8 in my hands, and I have paid for my copy of the Aful 8 and my opinions are my own.
There are recently been some rumors about more iems from Aful, and I can confirm one of them, a Single Balanced armature driver IEMs based on S&E-math technology is also in the pipeline. I would expect more from Aful in the future but that is the only thing that I can currently confirm. Award-winning technology just gets me out of bed. Paying some guy with a magic ear who says an iem good, just feels like I’m paying for a guy to repaint my house when my house is fine. It isn’t enough for me for a simple color retuning, I need to see value, technology, and quality. Hifi is a world of charging a silly amount, to have actual technology is insane and refreshing. The company has a few patients and a strong vision of what they want to do. Aful wants to achieve high-performing iems at a reasonable price. I encourage you to read up on the company.
Aful was founded in 2018 and this is their second international release and their fifth overall. There are graphs and videos floating around on Band 5 and Band 8, but they are tuned differently. Aful is a unique company name. I love their iems, and think this is a company to put on your radar. I’m
Comparison:
This Compares to Blessing 3, Blessing 2 Dusk, and surpasses the P5 handily. It’s a strong little iem with a taste of luxury that most can afford. The Blessing 3 is a fantastic iem, and I think that the Aful 8 fits better, and has a slight edge sonically. I think it competes with the more expensive Dunu SA6 MK2 and the Meteor which are 600 dollar iems. While I think other iems I have listened to rival it in technicalities and tuning, I do think this is my favorite iem over all that I've heard and is a competitive mid-fi iem to keep on your radar.
Quick-Fire Comparisons
In this section, I'll quickly compare the Aful 8 vs other iems.
Aful Performer 8 VS. Aful Performer 5 (220) Overall Tuning: Aful 8 Details: Aful 8
Aful Performer 8 VS. Blessing 2 Dusk (330) Overall Tuning: Blessing 2 Dusk Details: Aful 8
Aful Performer 8 VS. TheiAudio Oracle MK 2 (589) Overall Tuning: Aful 8 Details: Aful 8
Aful Performer 8 VS. Dunu SA6 MK2 (579) Overall Tuning: Tied Details: Dunu SA6 has a slight edge
Graph: Gizaudio has published a graph of this iem. It graphs very similarly to the Blessing 3 in the base, while the Aful 5 graphs are similar to Blessings 2 Dusk. While I was originally wary of this graph as it isn't exactly like my preferred tuning, I find this sounds really good. I would recommend that you try it before you judge it too harshly.
Bass
The base of the Aful 8 is Deep-Hitting and technical. The graph makes it look lean, but it is far from that. There is a growl and a rumble on the base notes. It hits hard and sounds fast. Cymbal hits are strong and detailed. The midrange is clean and clear without bleed from the base. It is an unusual experience like an Electrostatic driver in which you feel the base as the iem seems to rumble. There is a full sound that adds to the male vocals and everything sounds clear and vivid. It has a hard-hitting feeling that is tight with a nice timber Vocals sound supported and rich with great presence. There is no wisp or lack of clarity in the female vocals.
Midrange
The midrange is very detailed and natural sounding to me. There is an expansive soundstage to me that is nice and present. Vocals have a natural timbre to them that ties me in. It really instantly drew me in. Podcasts and voices all sound natural to me. I feel like I’m there with the Performer 8.
Treble
The treble is natural, airy, and shimmers in this set. I feel it competes with other more end-game sets and sounds detailed, and has sparkle at the right places. It has good musicality in the 10-15k range which is really nice and gets me to quickly enjoy the music. It maintains a smooth and extended presentation that ensures instruments sound like I’m there and it's magical.
Music
I’ve tested the Aful performer and it sounds great on different styles with instruments sounding good especially. I don’t think this iem should be characterized by only doing one type of music or another.
Value: Value is subjective. But I feel this iem competes with my other iems well and is something to consider for those who want their first taste of hifi. It’s easily on par with the quality Symphonium Meteor, Blessing 2 Dusk, and Dunu Sa6 MK2. The packaging is very nice and unique with what is the most beautiful shell that I’ve ever seen in an iem. I find this a good value at the expected price of around 400 in that it is on par or better than most in that range, and competitive vs other items at the 600 dollar pricepoint.
Should you Buy it:
It depends on what you are looking for and your budget. It is a great daily driver that I love to play loud. It hasn't left my ears in three days for longer than a few minutes to do comparisons. I fully enjoy them. If you can afford it, buy it, take the blind, and you won't be disappointed. If you can't, try it when you can at the next Cam Jam, or local store. Or just wait for the inevitable budget Aful product to come out.
Summary
I think this iem is going to start a fire, I think it’s going to be relevant in years to come as a technical monster. We live in a world where technology has an impact, but it’s not always apparent. It’s going to take time for this fire to get going, but when it does, expect more to jump on the bandwagon. This is a fantastic iem with great relevance to the market. It’s not just a pretty iem, it’s the kind of iem you’ll want to shout to the world about. The Aful 5 was the starter, now we are onto the main course, and it’s delicious. Now I go back to listening.

2023.05.28 08:06 Sinksyaboat Fireball sorc setup

I’m running a fireball sorc at level 18 in normal have 26 strength (27 with +1 from gloves, 25 dex 77 vitality, 35 energy and 2 unspent points. I have 1 point in frozen armour, 1 point in firebolt, 7 points in fireball and a point in warmth with 8 unspent skill points. I have a +2 fireball 2 socket short staff ready to go for leaf rune when I reach the right level and am waiting for a suitable base for rune word stealth. I’ve farmed out a reasonable amount of runes from countess (2 ral, 4 tal, 1 ith, 2 nef, 2 eth, 5 tir, 2 eld, 2 el) and am currently using a yellow short staff with +10 cast rate, +42% damage to demons, +78 attack rating to demons, +134% damage to undead, +78 to attack rating against undead, 1-9 fire damage, 7% life stolen per hit, +1 lightning and +4 mana per kill. And I’m wondering is the staff I’m currently using better or should I just go for leaf rune, and should I try to get a +3 fireball staff for leaf rune or is that not worth the effort, also does the base for stealth matter too much or should I just use the first 2 slot I can find?

2023.05.28 07:52 cemorn Grey Knight Reaction!

It's a bit late, but I've been thinking about the grey knight community post and wanted to share my reactions and thoughts.
List of Changes
Flash-Step: auto advance 6" + Fly; currently this has 0 damage implications. No assault weapons, no advance and charge. There MAY be something when the index releases, but I sincerely doubt it. That being said, this will still be a very useful ability. Movement is the most important part of the game. You can guarantee you'll get your units into cover, or out of LoS, or onto an objective, or into a screening position. Even being able to move over units (probably your own when you accidentally move block yourself), or on top of buildings (For +1 AP, and possibly denying charges) is going to be super useful. I think I've seen a lot of people dismissing this ability, but after teleport assault I think it's going to be the most definitive GK ability.
2+ armor, army wide: This pairs nicely with game-wide AP decreases. It also lets GK dodge the "space marine 3+ in cover" curse. GK should have an armor save against almost every weapon. I like this, as in 8th and 9th I resented that GK didn't have an invuln. Overall though, I think GK are going to feel about as durable as they do now, as the benefit is only going to be a 16% increase for some units against certain weapons.
Mono-Force Weapon Profile: Locking every force weapon into the halberd profile is meh. I feel mixed about it. On one hand, I thought it was kinda cool to choose the weapon of each of my little dudes. On the other hand, all it boiled down too was "spam whatever is best right now". I really wanted them to lock down the weapon balancing act so the way I loaded out each squad WAS an actual choice. I am bummed that they removed the thunder hammer and the warding stave. Having the option for anti-tank or invulns gave GK squads flexibility within shifting metas. Its weirdly a bigger nerf than it should be now that GK has lost most of its anti-tank.
Purgation Squad: All of their ranged weapons lost Heavy, which is nice as you'll probably want to move and shoot them each turn with 12-24" range. With the loss of Tides, all weapons will probably be stuck at 24" range too. But with the free deepstrikes and the ability to shoot from behind cover, I think Purgations squads might be one of the best targets for teleport assault. You should always be able to have a target for a purgation squad to shoot at without exposing themselves to counterfire. It might be pretty easy to keep 3 of these alive the whole game with 0 investment. That kind of return on investment might make 3 of these squads an auto include (especially if you're spamming Dreads in the elite slot for anti-tank, instead of NDKs). Target wise, they are basically geared for different versions of anti-infantry. Psycannons with a strength of 8 will only tickle light vehicles now (like T9 rhinos) , but seem like very cost efficient anti-marine guns. At a glance these seem the most competitive ranged option now (given the low range on incinerators, and that the storm bolters on every GK model do the same job as psilencers), but that really depends on how they're pointed.
GMNDK: I've seen a lot folks really angry about the loss in BS/WS. Personally, I like the loss in WS/BS! They've had to artificially limit units like this (like tau commanders, smash captains) to one per detachment. I think the GMNDK outcompeted the NDK profile by too wide a margin. They fill the same role, just the GMNDK does it better. It seems like here, they're trying to differentiate them a bit. With the cheaper strats and the full re-rolls vs monsters/vehicles, it seems like they still only want you to take one of them as a tech-piece. Both previewed strats would be awesome on the GMNDK at 1CP. And now there's design space for the NDK to have its own unique rule to differentiate its role further! Weapons wise, the psilencer losing AP and the incinerator gaining range makes me consider swapping them out. The psycannon looks like it got worse; losing AP and not having enough strength to threaten heavy tanks will really set it back. I think we'll still have to take it anyways, since our other anti-tank is so limited. I like the toughness increase. even though most anti tank will rise to match it, infantry S4 weapons will now wound NDKs on a 6. NDK's used to take a lot of damage from S4 weapons wounding it on a 5+, and with their 4+ invuln it was one of the more reliable ways to kill them. Melee-weapon wise the great-hammer really seems like the only way to go now. The dude is kitted out for going HAM on veh/mon, so there's no reason to take a sword that is kinda shit against infantry. Maybe it'll be different on the NDKs.
Purifying Flame: This was disappointing. It makes purifiers about as good at killing GEQ equivalents as purgators with psilencers, while still retaining their melee capabilities. A nice shooting buff, but even though it has better range I would say it's worse than before, as killing light infantry has never been a GK issue, and those guaranteed 3 mortals could do work into characters, monsters and vehicles. And even then you hardly ever considered this unit. Purifiers could have an ability that makes them relevant on their datasheet, but unless its really good I think these guys might sit out 10th edition as well. Has there ever been an edition where purifiers were relevant?
Haloed in Soulfire: For 2CP, this seems too expensive. This kind of CP only feels worth it on a Paladin brick. Which who knows, maybe that'll be optimal. But for 1 CP, it seems pretty worth it on a GMNDK. I think this will let you operate your singular GMDNK with similar impunity as the Sigil of Exigence allowed.
Radiant Strike: Same deal as Haloed in Soulfire. Exact same. Too expensive for anything but a paladin brick or at half price for a GMNDK. It further cements the role of the GMNDK as an anti-vehicle/monster unit.
And the best for last!
Teleport Assault: 3x re-deepstrike, starting from 2nd turn
This is huge. There have been comments saying that its easy to screen out, that skilled players won't let it work. I think this is one of the most bonkers abilities in the game. I'm astonished something of this power level has been given to any faction, let alone grey knights. So previously, we could kinda do this, with Gate and Teleport Shunt (on interceptors/NDKs). But we were limited to either a 7+ roll (which you often spent 1-2 CP on to guarantee it went off when you needed it, along with the range limitation) or 2CP to shunt either NDKs or interceptors, which then couldn't be targeted by the stratagem later.

It is true that it will be relatively easy for large armies/good players to screen you out of obviously advantageous positions. However, there's no opportunity cost for this ability. There's no range on Gate or a failed psychic test to limit you. You're not limited by CP, and you can target units that have already been targeted by it. Your shooting units are threatening the whole board the entire game with this ability. Your opponent can't kill off your librarian, or wait for you to be out of CP. On top of that, you perform jukes. You can deploy units heavily to one side of the table, then force your opponent to move units over there to counter you, then you can remove all of your units onto the other side of the board. Your opponent won't be able to match your mobility, and will have committed resources to a side of the board where they can't contribute. In other words, its a chess fork: if they don't move units to respond to where you are piling up units, you will sweep that side of the board, possibly into his backline. And if they do move units onto that side of the board, you can freely redeploy onto the other side of the board, losing literally nothing. I think a lot of Grey Knights playstyle in 10th edition will revolve around leveraging this army rule.
CONS
Anti-Tank damage looks a lot worse. Currently, we can hit big models with empyric amplification to power up NDK shooting, and Swordbearers can give all vehicles +1 to hit and wound. Storm bolters can plink off 1-2 wounds reliably with psybolt ammunition. Paladins with thunder hammers can go to town. Every unit has a smite, every unit can inflict mortals in melee and we have the mortal wound librarian. Quite a few options for reliably dealing damage to high toughness and high save targets. None of these will be in the next edition. Mini-psycannons and big psycannons won't be able to cut it with the new toughness'. They each needed +2 strength to be relevant against tanks in this brave new world.
GMNDK melee will slap cha/mon/veh, but it seems like we still have no reliable ways of getting it, or anything else, into melee.
Thats basically only leaves the lascannons/multimeltas on dreadnoughts, razorbacks, land raiders and stormravens. Everything (except dreads) are also paying for transport capacity, so they tend to be pretty inefficient as weapons platforms. And with the new mobility rules for grey knights, transports seem kind of redundant. Their points costs may prove me wrong, but I don't expect any of those 3 vehicles to become viable anti-tank for grey knights.
That leaves lascannon/missile dreads. I hope I'm wrong. I don't look forward to an edition where we spam 6 dreads as our only viable anti-tank. And thats even if Ven Dreads are still a thing.
As a side note, I wouldn't be surprised if dreads can't be targeted for teleport assault. It has precedents; there have been editions where dreads couldn't be targeted for gate. But then again, there have been editions where land raiders could be targeted by gate, so who knows.
So I'm a bit worried for the future of GK into the mega-toughness tank meta, but I'm excited out the wazoo to try out the new teleport assault.

Well, if you made it this far, thanks! I'd love to know what you think, as we've still got about a month to agonize over this until the full index releases.

2023.05.28 07:41 Chrystolis22 To Hurt A Mother Bear

Trigger warning for blood, the violation of the Geneva Convention, dead children, and just a little bit of torture.
"You made a mistake."
"You should have left me alone."
I glare apathetically at the shaking C'ultrina who's exoskeleton clad form stared in horror at the blade dripping with the blood of her drones and underlings.
"Yes I was a 'criminal' under your laws and yes I was taking away other 'criminals'. You however dropped a vacuum bomb on my house and the children I saved. Children in my protection that were almost ready to go through the portal to Earth."
"Trust me I'm not the only one that noticed your heinous act." I leaned on the point of my rapier digging into the stone beside her neck. "There are things far older and more powerful than you out there. Like people with morals and standards."
"To be fair they don't always follow their rules themselves. However it doesn't take long for a revolution or a social movement… that I may have had a hand in. To fix things."
"In other words… unlike you, it's possible to reason with them."
I lean forward and bare my fangs at her neck. "I am a vampire, true, but do you know what I used to be? What the 'psychotic bitch' - if I've done my translation right - used to be?"
I watch as her eyes widened as she realize she missed something. "Yes though I've lived for many millennia as a vampire, and though I am probably the oldest on this planet bar the planet itself… I was born a Human."
I grin as realization dawns on her. I tear my rapier through the stone away from you and stand up when you flinch away from me.
"Yes I stole some of your planet's magic for my own. I was hoping to see what a technomagocricy was capable of past an industrial level of technology."
"It's a shame I'll have to end it all."
"Don't worry I'm not a monster… yet. I still have some mercy to give. I'll call in a few favors and ask them to blow up some of your nukes for you. I think reducing your civilization to the stone age to try again is a reasonable punishment for the genocide you mercilessly purpotrated here."
I chuckle as I turn my back to her. "You probably won't live to see it though… what you did to those children in my care… I can't forgive you for that."
I grin savigly as I hear the sound of an arcane pistol being cocked and laugh as the bullet tore through my chest.
Coughing up blood my voice drops into a snarl. "So you do have a spine after all."
She watches in horror as I use my own blood to yank the bullet from the wall in front of me and turn to face her again.
"What? You thought that would kill me?" I cough up more blood and grin. "Oh the irony that even if you hit my heart I'd just come back! In your hubris you didn't even try to find my weakness. Trusting your superior magic and technology to kill someone who can't die from magic or technology."
"How pathetic. You won't even understand when I call you Icarus."
I glance at the deformed bullet as my blood fashions it into a spike, and Imbue it with a curse.
"I curse you Icarus, for flying too close to the sun and thinking yourself above all others. For constructing a genocide for political gain against the Kaltar who grew up as siblings on this planet with you."
My voice raises in volume as I start to yell through the pain and blood.
"For violating the Geneva Convention of the United Species! I grow quiet again as I choke back tears now… "and for killing my adopted children. I Marqués Vermilion of Earth sentence you to a slow and painful death."
Who knows…" I grin, as your bullets tear through me again.
"Maybe you'll live long enough to witness the end of yours and your Queen's ambitions." I push the spike through your chest like a hot knife through butter and watch the runes light up blue from your blood fueling the curse.
"Seeing as you don't stand a snowball's chance in hell, against the might of a righteous crusade of angry humans that's… surely already on its way." I finish inserting the spike in time for us both to fall. Her from pain and me from blood loss.
As I release my blood magic and let my body start its rapid regeneration I say to her writhing form. "Be thankful I gave your species a second chance."
I close my eyes as consciousness finally flees from me and I welcome the embrace of the dark once more.
End
This is my first story on this sub I hope y'all enjoy it! If you have any suggestions or criticism I'd love to hear it.

Timestamps
Hi, this is Kevin from Kevin W Studio Lube Service. I started my lube and film services in the second half of 2021 as a relatively small operation but have invested heavily in it after receiving so much positive feedback from the mechmarket community members. Thank you very much to everyone who has purchased from me; I am very grateful for your trust!
In addition to lubes, films, brushes, etc., I have invested in an ultrasonic cleaner for deep cleaning switches that come from the factory pre-lubed. The end result is a much more consistent sound and press feel. I carry a large variety of lubed and filmed switches in stock; please check out the descriptions for each switch to see what lube+film was used and whether or not the ultrasonic cleaner was used.
All orders will be shipped in ziplock bags inside a box. SHIPPING IS CONUS ONLY. I am unfortunately not set up to fulfil international orders yet; apologies for the inconvenience.
Switches, Lubes and tools
I have received questions regarding my experience, so I would like to share that and a few of my philosophies when it comes to lubing and filming switches:
I have lubed and filmed over 40,000 switches for other people since the middle of 2021.
** Please note that you cannot confirm sales here as this is considered a bulk purchase under mechmarket rules.
** Please PM me with the quantity of switches and your PayPal email, and I will send the invoice.
** The price list below includes PayPal fees and shipping unless described in price column.

2023.05.28 07:35 JackNewbie555 Do you prefer hunting with other people in Multiplayers or with the AI Followers?

Hunting with other people is a 50/50 chances, or maybe 20/80 on a very bad day of either you having a smooth hunt where the Quest is done quickly and efficiently with either you or other people carrying the hunt in some cases, or people carting to the most basic or predictable of attacks and failing the Quest either quickly or as the Monster is about to be dead. Looking at you, Hazard Flaming Espinas and his nuke that take literally 5 seconds to charge up and people not taking the obvious hint to do something about it ...
While with the Followers, you need to do most of the damage since the Followers damage output is set to minimal but in exchange for not taking your carts, being smarter than most average Hunters by knowing when to dodge or run away from certain monsters nukes, and will support you with all they got with Items, Traps, or saving you from Stun and Paralysis.

2023.05.28 07:30 Hveachie Gears 2 Epilogue & Myrrah's backstory

I recently replayed the entirety of Gears of War 2 for the first time since Gears 5 in 2019.
When Myrrah gave her speech at the end, I realized just how much it relates to her backstory - even though it wasn't fully revealed until 11 years after the game came out.
"Your world can end in the blink of an eye. One event, one unexpected twist of fate, and suddenly the world as you knew it... is gone forever. All that you held dear, all that you held close... is washed away into the sea of distant memory."
This clearly relates to Reyna. Despite certain aspects of her life being awful, she was pretty content because she had Reyna. All she ever wanted was to be a mother. And she was all that she had left. Her parents were dead. Her friends were dead or transformed into monsters, whether or not she she was still fond of them. Her entire world was shattered the day Torres took her and Niles said Reyna died in the escape attempt.
"Life... is cruel. Of this, I have no doubt. But life continues on... with, or without you."
Myrrah's life was full of cruelty. Her mother and father are dead because of the COG's greed over Imulsion. Many of her friends are dead for the same reason. And then she and whatever friends she had left were taken to New Hope where they were robbed of the childhood and humanity. She was forced to see her friends turned into monsters. She never saw the sunlight again. And whether or not she was in love, she was preyed upon by the only man she had ever been with. The last good thing in her life was Reyna, and she was taken from her. In this, Myrrah came to the realization that she would have to live without her daughter and find a new way ahead. With or without Reyna, she was going to be a mother and regain her freedom.
"One can only hope that one leaves behind a lasting legacy. But so often, the legacies we leave behind... are not the ones that we intended."
This can relate her, Niles, and Torres. All three of them worked together to try and not only cure Rustlung, but to create a weapon that would end all wars and evolve the human race. None of them realized that they were pushing humanity toward extinction.
I'm unsure as to if Epic had everything planned out. It's clear from the beginning that Myrrah was a child test subject at New Hope, was brought to the Mount Kadar lab, helped make the Locust, and grew up with them and later rebelled. All of that is pretty evident. If the spark to that rebellion was the "death" of her daughter, I don't know. But I have to say they wrapped it all up pretty nicely. It's great to go back in the series and see that they really did give us answers all along.
