Hi! I am looking for some input from experienced language teachers that have taught in Vietnam. I am hoping to teach English in Vietnam as the next step in my career but with no real connections in Vietnam, I hope to gain some insight from your advice!
I am a native speaker from the US, with a CELTA and bachelors degree. Unfortunately I have no official ELT experience as I’ve held a corporate job since I’ve graduated from my University.
Some inquiries that I have are:

• If you could start over what are some ways that you could’ve maximized your earning per month without time conflicts and burnout?(I fully realize that no experience will put me in the lowest pay bracket, so hoping to possibly pick up additional part time gigs if thats even possible for my first year. I am hoping to go to grad school soon so I would like to save as much as I can)
  
• What other factors makes a candidate attractive to ELT jobs, or how would you approach applying jobs differently? (Can I put on my salesman hat and embellish my past corporate training sessions as “teaching” experience? Do I choose a brand and market myself in a certain way, like a business English teacher with corporate experience? Should I dye my hair blonde to look super westernized?)
  
• What resources have you used to get the know-how on every single aspect of relocating to Vietnam? (taxes, visa, apartment, etc. Having trouble finding a reliable source for Americans)
  
• Like the title states, knowing what you know now, what would you tell your past self before teaching/moving to Vietnam?
  

I made a credit card payment from my ICICI account to ICICI using gpay in March 2023. The transaction according to gpay was successful and the money reached ICICI according to gpay. Money even got deducted from my account. A sum of around Rs. 10,000.
However, ICICI went on to block my credit card stating that I hadn't paid my bill. On speaking to the call centre person, they unblocked it. The lady said that she could see the payment was made. She said I'll need to make the payment again in April and they'll refund the money from March. I did as instructed. Paid another bill of the same amount. But now ICICI is refusing to refund my money.
Here are the routes I took to unsuccessfully retrieve my money-
1) call centres - they have been completely unhelpful. They initially didn't even file a complain when i told them to. They finally did in late April. Every time I followed up they gave me a new story- "the money has been initiated and i'll get it soon", "sorry but something went wrong in the system and we'll have to register a new complaint", "please give us few more week". The worst part is they would always say they'll call me back to update me and i haven't received a single call till date (their excuse- you never answer your phone, which is BS)
2) Relationship manager and other staff - I don't know what else you call them except useless. They lied to me saying they were looking into the issue and i found out they hadn't done anything. I actually got calls 3 times from them saying that my refund has been initiated and i'll receive it within days. That never happened! I requested transaction IDs from their end, some sort of written proof that they are working on my case, and other stuff from them. And obviously, they didn't share anything even after promising they would. However, i finally did manage to get one email thanks to them that said the money will be credited to my account BUT THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN!
3) Emailing customer care - If you want to get stuck in a loop, this is the way to go. 20 different people will email you the same thing - "Please submit your details". You will and absolutely nothing will happen, no one will send you a follow up email or call you.
4) National Consumer Helpline - what a great and easy app to use! I registered a complaint on it and finally for the first time ever someone called me from ICICI, a lady called V. Saritha. She wasn't the most pleased about the complaint filed. She asked me to share all my documents to prove the transaction. I emailed her those documents (mind you, I have emailed those documents to ICICI at least 5 times). She called me back and had the most absurd reasoning for the issue I have ever heard. She said I typed in the wrong card number and so my money has gone to some other account and now that person is refusing to return it. So, they can't do anything about it. How is that even possible??? I only typed in my card number, if it was the wrong one shouldn't money be deducted from someone's account. And how can ICICI even approve of such a payment. I am hoping their security would be good enough to reject such a payment. Anyway, she basically told me to kiss my money goodbye. Obviously, she is unwilling to provide any statements or evidence for her hilarious claims.
The last two and a half months have been mentally exhausting for me. Dealing with ICICI has been absolutely horrible. They have been telling me multiple things and clearly lying. One of the staff members I spoke to said they get other cases like this. How many ppl are they torturing like me? So please, be careful while using ICICI credit cards. They will deduct your money and ask you to pay it again. You will not get any refunds and get lied to multiple times.

Hertz sent me a bill for $70 for a rental car. I already paid what I (thought I) owed them upon dropping off the car ($~350). When I call to ask what the extra charge is for, they said they are not sure, just that I owe the $70 or I’ll be put on some list and not allowed to rent cars anymore. Do I have to pay this? Other thoughts?

We’ll I’m deciding to go to the internet for some advice. Since I got engaged. My mom was not supportive of my relationship. She told me this to my face when my FH and I went down for Christmas. During that trip we went wedding dress shopping. She confided in me that my fiancé is only marrying me for the money which is not true. Since he pays all the bills and I only put my money into savings. She told me that he is controlling and that I never go hang out with friends. That’s not true either. I’m a homebody and have extreme anxiety and PTSD (from military) and I would rather be home then go out, but I do go have a girls night 1-2 times a month to go have fun. He supports it. He always asks if I had fun and laughs and supports me going out. My mom does not believe in mental illness so she blames him that I don’t want to go out. She was also so mad that he did not ask her for MY hand. She believes he will never be good enough for me. I did have a conversation with her about these things. She put herself as the victim and I called her out on this. I told her that I want to marry my FH then she said she’ll be supportive. She then bought my wedding dress. I sent out invites and she’s more then willing to help out. But with everything she put me through. My FH does not want her at the wedding. He doesn’t want her to start any drama and I agree with him. It just breaks my heart that I want her to be there, but I don’t want drama. What do I do?

After office hours. Lucy was in the manager's office, putting away the remaining documents, when suddenly there was a knock at the door and a young man entered.
"Thank you for your hard work, Representative. I brought you some tea"
"Evenin'. It's after business hours now, so just talk normally"
"......Yeah? Then......how're the customers who came today?"
"It's a little complicated, but we'll make it work. We have to make a splendid ceremony for the bride"
He asked Lucy while offering her a cup of tea, and he was the number two of 'L. H. W.' and Lucy's right-hand man. And.......
"That's obvious......but is it okay?"
"Huh? What is?"
"You're offering them a great wedding, but ours should be a modest affair"
Yes, he was also Lucy's lifelong companion. He was originally an employee of Lucy's family's Evans Trading Company, but Lucy was drawn by his business acumen and honest character and pulled him into this 'L.H.W.'. As they worked together right and left on this new venture, they developed a bond that led to their engagement.
"But if you're a representative, you're connected to the royal family, and you could have made the ceremony more magnificent, couldn't you? ......Well, when I put it like that, it makes me wonder if it was really a good idea for you to get engaged to a regular guy like me"
To those words, Lucy laughed at him with a cackle.
"What're you talkin' about? This is 100 percent my ideal weddin' and husband. Many of my friends are in the upper echelons of society, and we've had our share of dramatic stories ......but I'd rather get married to a normal person and have a normal, happy family than ta have that kinda thin' happen ta me. ......Well, I guess it won't be completely normal, though, since we'll have royalty at the weddin'"
"I, Is that how it's supposed to be?"
He tilted his head, not quite grasping the female mind. Seeing him like this, Lucy giggles. She really likes that kind of honest response back. Then Lucy patted the engagement ring he had given her and said, with a lovely smile similar to that of a revered little raccoon princess.

Yesterday marked my third official day of being an Uber driver. $100 to $120 a day isn't bad and really helps me pay the bills. However, yesterday, I accepted a ride, thinking that it would just be the usual in my area: usually just taking people from the Illinois side of the Quad Cities over to the Iowa side and vice-versa. However, when I picked the customer up, only then did I find out that my trip was from Bettendorf, Iowa to Chicago, Illinois; a grand total of 300 miles and 5 hours round-trip.
I used to work at Domino's and the dispatch system always showed the destination of where I would be going to deliver a customer's pizza, not just showing me a name on the computer with no other information. If I had known that I would be driving to Chicago, I never would've taken the job whatsoever. Most of the money I got from said trip was pretty much slashed in half, as I had to get a full tank of gas when I was done.

Okay... so... I am divorced (officially since 2021, but separated since 2018) with an AMAZING 9-year-old child with autism whom I take care of a large portion of the time. Until the past year his father lived in another city, and then state. He is a heavy equipment operator but claims he can't find work in our large oil field-based city which will make him enough money to pay his bills and pay us. (He pays us $440 a week but that includes spousal support which ends in 2 years... I got screwed in the divorce) Until the past year he has never utilized full amount of visitation time. He would come and take his son about once every 3 to 4 weeks for 1-3 days at a time. Before the past year, and primarily the last 6 months, he has never participated in my sons doctors appts., School activities, or ARD meetings(iep planning for special needs chuldren.) Since January of this year he has started "being more involved".. has been a part of 1 psychiatrist appt. and has decided.. even though he sees him child for 24 hours every other weekend.. that the medication my son is currently on is not good for him. He says it causes "jerking motions".. ( yeah... those are from being nervous and having autism.. that happens more when a child with autism is out of routine or in a new or uncommon environment.) He told the Dr that the reason my son had to be moved from the asip program to the Life Skills class is because of this medication.. which..was a very difficult decision made along with his teachers but was made after 2 years in the asip program where he was throwing tantrums everyday and very unhappy. (He is doing very well in the Life Skills class now!) My ex is very hard in general to communicate with. He is a narcissist who I don't believe genuinely loves my son. He let's his girlfriend take over their video chats often and he rarely speaks to him as it is. I have a handful of time lost my cool with them. I am exhausted by this obvious lack of caring and selfishness. They fight me on everything and blame me for everything. Everything is a fight. She is 22 by the wayhe is 38. He was very emotionally abusive, total covert narc. I felt bad for her at first. Thought maybe she just was fooled by him like I was.. and maybe she is.. on some level she has to be.. but she goes out of her way to make sure I know she is there. At drop offs and pickups she will physically stand between my ex and myself. When I put my son in a special needs baseball league, she was on the field with both of us and would repeat everything I said to my son to him as if to say I am the Mom too I can do your job. I would love this if it seemed genuine... but it doesn't. They have made it very clear they want custody. They think they will get money for my son because he had special needs. I haven't gotten any yet but eventually hopefully I will. I am so tired and angry at myself because I am afraid they will use these time where I have gotten so angry at this lack of love for my son that I have yelled not obscenities but said things like "he is trying to talk to his Dad, not you," etc. I am scared he is going to use this to take my son from me. I am a really good Mom. And I love my baby so much. I have a hearing coming up for "motion to enforce divorce decree" in July and I am terrified. I know I am a good Mom but I also know how slimy he is. There is soooo much history here. He signed over the rights to his first child when I was pregnant with my son... (I found out a lot of things about his life after it was too late.. we were bound for life.. even though alot of the things he did I disagreed with at the time but what could I do?!) I had to try to make it work for my son. And I did for a long time. Can he say this is abuse of my child if I yell at his girlfriend on video chat? I would think yes... they both manage to stay calm. It is easy to stay calm when you have no emotion in the game.

My husband was hired on, as a master plumber, at $35 an hour, but I guess it's rare that he gets his base pay? He now is starting to understand how his pay works.
He's supposed to get 10 calls a week and bring in 2k a day, 10k a week. If he does this, he doesn't get hourly pay, he gets commission, which is 20%, so that's good. If he makes over 10k, he gets 20% of that. Now, if he can't make the 10k, but still gets 10 calls, he still doesn't get the $35 an hour. He only gets commission on what he made for that that week, which could only come out to a few hundred for the week, before taxes. We can't live off of this. There is no wage security.
If his employer doesn't give him the 10 calls, then it's his employers fault and they'll give him $35 an hour.
Every other employer he's had, gives him base pay + commission. I am aware that some people get paid strictly commission, but it wasn't explained like this to my husband.
This just seems off to me. I feel the employer is just looking out for himself, what's new, and is trying to confuse employees. He's making less money during the busy months and more when it's slow. I mean, what if he gets 10 calls for minor leaks or a toilet rebuild in a week? No way is he making 10k. This just doesn't sound right. We're in Colorado, btw. Can anyone help that knows the labor laws?
Oh, his boss also doesn't track hours and I KNOW this is wrong. How and when does he get time and a half? He's worked both days this weekend and would definitely get time and a half. This is all so confusing that we don't know what his pay will be week to week

I’m not sure if I’m wording this correctly, so please feel free to ask any questions for clarity.
I have been an entrepreneur for over a decade. To date, however, I feel like I’ve been just been running myself ragged by “hustling” (NOT illegally, but simply meaning not really working to plan for growth but instead, working day by day without real plans for the future).
Well, here I am…over a decade in, and I have absolutely nothing to show for it. I look around at people who started around the same time I did and even after. I don’t do the comparison thing; however, I can’t help but to notice how many have handled business WAY better than I have. Tired of my own BS, I’ve honed in on my focus and want to make changes.
For those of you who sell products and have found success in it, please share your answers to these questions (and even if you’re not where you want to be but have something insightful to add, I’d more than welcome it):
• what’s one thing you always keep in mind when it comes to running your business? Maybe you have a book you’ve read or a quote to live or build by.
• when it comes to products, how do you narrow down which to start with? I have two businesses but one is a jewelry company (the other is service related). I have an idea of the direction I’d like it to go. However, when I make things or solicit vendors, I love SO much stuff and want to add EVERYTHING. But then I’ll become overwhelmed or get down on myself because I don’t have the funds to fully get everything that I want. It’s hard being extremely indecisive (I’m actually working on this in therapy), but I know that it’s necessary to just start.
• do any of you have a formula that you use for markups on products (whether handmade or items you purchase and resell)?
• once you’ve done your mark up, do you have a break down of how you separate your inventory repurchase, savings, paying yourself etc?
• please share what you do and how long you’ve been doing it.
Having been an entrepreneur for so long, you’d THINK I’d have all these answers, but to say that I’ve literally been winging it and somehow managing to “afford” myself is an understatement.
I know that I have it in me to do WAY better than I have been. But I’m just wanting to talk to other entrepreneurs who have either found success OR working towards it and possibly apply some of that consistency to my own thing(s).

Let me explain... So, from what we know about Kanae Kochou: She is stronger than Shinobu (obviously its a give in) and she managed to keep Douma busy from some time in the night until sunrise. We don't have much information about her exact strength but its possible to infer about it paying attention to her accomplishments... Just to justify...imo, Giyu is stronger than Iguro which is something we can keep in mind.
Onto Kanae's strength: She managed to last against Douma for an estimated 3-4 hours. I say this because by the time she was done fighting Douma it was sunrise so I believe they encountered each other in the middle of the night (around 2 - 3 a.m) and fought until daybreak. Kanae managed to last against Douma for a few hours in HER BASE FORM. That's quite impressive.
Anyways, in this fight Douma was holding back and just toying around with her. However this brings me to my next point, Douma was probably using around 15% of his power. Douma's 15% is probably Akaza's 20 - 25% which takes me to MY NEXT POINT. In the infinity castle arc, Giyu and Tanjiro fought Akaza and in this fight: Akaza was using around 65% of his power. However, Giyu was marked and he had help from Tanjiro so he handled approximately 30 - 35% of Akaza's power lets say... So basically... Kanae (Base) handled Douma's 15% (Akaza's 20 - 25%) And Giyuu (Marked) handled approximately Akaza's 30 - 35%.
Now imagine if Kanae was marked... She could easily handle Douma's 25% (Approximately Akaza's 35 - 40%) So Kanae might even be greater than Giyuu if she got to be marked but I said Kanae = Giyuu... Giyu fans please don't kill me!

I've come to realize in the past year how abusive my father really is. There are some days where he treats me kindly and others where he pushes me beyond my limits and makes me feel so worthless.
After a fun outing my mother and I go grocery shopping while my dad stays home and drinks. He never helps shop, or clean, or cook. He is an alcoholic, so on the weekends he spends all day drinking from sun up until sun down. He helps pay bills and that's where his responsibilities end. Don't get me wrong I'm grateful for his support since I currently don't have a job, but if he could just help out a little more it would make things a lot easier.
We shop, I come home and put all the stuff away and I sit down for the first time in hours after being gone all day. I spend a few hours on the phone relaxing. No one is cleaning and frankly the house is not messy. There are some dishes in the sink but that's about it. Everyone in my house is taking it easy. It's Saturday night and I figure since my dad is drinking and playing games on his phone he wouldn't mind if I check my own. He comes out and immediately belittles me. He tells me to get off my fat ass and clean the kitchen and make dinner. And yes, I'm overweight and he hates it. He hates fat people, and gay people, and he's racist. So there's that. He hated fat people so much he married a fat woman (my mother) and then proceeded to bully and abuse her so badly she developed an ED. He verbally and physically abused her and my sister for years but she will never leave him and I know that that is somewhat common for victims of abuse. She sees it as normal. She and my sister and I all live in fear of his outbursts and walk on eggshells when he starts drinking. And when he orders us around we get up and obey because he can be violent.
But today I really didn't think the house was in that bad of a state to warrant his sudden attack. So I tell him that it's the weekend and we were about to watch a movie and that I will clean the kitchen when we are done eating. My sister's boyfriend is making dinner at this point as I cooked all week and he offered to help. This isn't good enough for him. If I am not moving, if I am not cleaning, if I am not catering to his every need I am worthless. I am lazy. To him I am a machine, his maid, a robot who doesn't get a break or a day off. I am belittled for something as simple as sitting down, and told I am a loser with no life. I am told I do nothing all day when this is so far from the truth it's laughable. I do everything since my mom has an array of health problems and my sister and father work. I don't mind doing so because I'm not working, but when my father treats me less than human it's hard not to feel hurt.
I am in therapy and have talked to my therapist about this. In our most recent session I said that my father and my family (my mother and sister also have their own serious issues) were not going to change. Her suggestion was basically for me to "divorce" my family and move out, which I know people are forced to do when their abusive toxic family situation can't improve. I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that this may be my only option.
Any advice or insight is welcome, and sorry for the long rant.

TO ALL STUDENTS: Avoid renting an apartment from TREMONT, THE BRYN, or THE POINTE in State College, or any property managed or owned by CARDINAL GROUP COMPANIES or GREYSTAR, or KEYSTONE PROPERTIES in all states! These are predatory businesses, that target college students. Although GREYSTAR reflects a "warning" on their website to avoid any association with properties that prohibit potential Tenants from viewing their apartment before Leasing, that is exactly what GREYSTAR employees do! THE BRYN at 601 VAIRO BLVD in State College, Pennsylvania is a "slum property", and so is THE POINTE at 501 S. VAIRO. They forbid potential Tenants from viewing apts before paying them multiple months of rent in advance, and signing a Lease. They only allow the view of a "Model", which is nothing like the actual apartments that look like "crack-houses". They scam people by making false representations about the true conditions of the apartments. Their Marketing Manager is WENDY DONOVAN. She lies to potential Tenants about everything. She has also stated that they will not, under any circumstance, allow potential renters to see their apartment before they actually take possession of it, even if the apt is vacant. THE POINTE'S Regional Manager is ZACH LOVETT. He carries out the same RACKETEERING SCAM that CARDINAL GROUP does at THE BRYN and TREMONT, both on VAIRO.
These properties will lie to potential Tenants and say there is only 2 apts left and they need to put a deposit/sign a lease fast to ensure they have an apt. They'll ask for approximately 3 months rent, or multiple months, in far advance. In the Illinois case, the VICTIMS discovered that they'd paid for an apartment that did not exist, on the day the Victim Tenant moved-in. The apt was uninhabitable! There was Black Mold throughout, filthy, black carpets, although the Marketing Manager, KATIE LIBERMAN LOVETT said that the apt and ALL apts are "deep steam cleaned". She and other staff make false claims about doing extensive cleaning to avoid COVID-19 exposure, especially if a previous Tenant vacated in a short period of time before the new Tenant(s) moved in. This is also false! These misstatements and misrepresentations are all part of their scheme to defraud. THE POINTE does the very same thing. Although they are owned and managed by different companies, ZACH LOVETT, THE POINTE'S Regional Mgr. and KATIE LIBERMAN LOVETT, CARDINAL GROUP'S former Marketing Mgr at THE BRYN and current employee of CARDINAL GROUP, are married, and carried out the same scheme to defraud.
These predatory businesses will take their time to repaireplace old, non-working appliances. THE BRYN had ALL non-working appliances at the time the Plaintiff in the Illinois lawsuit moved in, although they claimed that they had ALL updated and up-to-date appliances. Their webpage reflects that as well, but the appliances were 25-27 years old and NOT working. CARDINAL GROUP staff will then tell Tenants, "Too bad! You signed a Lease! Pay us or we'll send you to collections!"
They will also delete Tenants MAINTENANCE WORK ORDERS so that there is not a "paper trail" and no evidence, in their efforts to further their scheme to defraud.
THE BRYN, along with it's Owner, HAIM SABAN, CARDINAL GROUP COMPANIES, CARDINAL GROUP MANAGEMENT, and the CEO, ALEX O'BRIEN, KATIE LIBERMAN LOVETT, and VALERIE HERRERA are being sued in the state of Illinois, Federal Court Northern District of Illinois, Case# 1:21_CV- 4324. HERRERA is a CARDINAL GROUP MGMT. employee and worked/works at THE BRYN.
If you're a Penn State student, or you know of any student who has been been defrauded / scammed by these people / predatory businesses, contact PSU's Student Legal Services. Do not contact LAURA ROBBINS, Attorney in State College. She has claimed that she "handled" legal disputes on behalf of THE BRYN. She's also a liar. Beware of Attorneys that don't "sound right". It is also important that those who have been scammed by these people, file an online Complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office. It takes about 7 minutes to complete!

There are not many Student Housing properties Off-Campus, that have not been recently sued in the past, or have pending lawsuits against them by the Pennsylvania Attorney General, for defrauding and scamming college students!!! A quick "google search" or accessing their website, go in the upper-left-hand corner, enter "State College" in the Search bar. There, you can see some current cases. You can contact them directly as well. That online Complaint is important! They can't do anything unless they know about it.
****Most important: Know your state's eavesdropping/tape-recording laws! If you do business with these slumlords & fraudsters, make sure you tape-record every communication with them. Courts and Jurys love tape-recorded evidence; it's indisputable!

On top of only being scheduled such little hours . I’m scheduled 8 this week and 8 1/2 next week and it just feels like a slap in the face because I’m a college student and have bills to pay. So now I’m going to have to spend an even more time searching for jobs…

As I understand, there are no parking charges in malls if

1. Staying less than 30 min
   
2. If bill amount greather than or equal to parking charges.
   

Is the bill amount rule not applicable to eateries? If I go to Domino's in a mall and don't buy anything else, whilst staying for more than 30 min, is the parking charge applicable?
Went to Attapur mantra mall yesterday and was asked to pay 50RS parking charge in cash only. Want to report it to someone if it is illegal. They had a notice saying parking fee waiving off is applicable to movie ticket or shopping only but not for eateries.

A few days ago I got a 7 top, and a few people were gluten free. I'd say 75% of the menu is gluten free, and the items are clearly marked. She wanted me to double check the soup was gluten free, which I did to make her feel more comfortable. Celiac is no joke. Anywho, I accidentally rang in the wrong soup. Totally on me, one says guisada and one says guisado, but regardless I goofed. My boss assured her it was still gluten free, and went to grab her the correct soup... I checked on their table at least 3 times after, and everyone was doing fine. They wanted their bills split, no problem! We have toast pos so I went around with the handheld, and paid everyone out. Once I got to the lady, she grabbed the handheld, tipped me the lowest percentage offered(go figure), handed it back and then gives me the cherry on top of the gluten free sundae: there was 2 pieces of steak in her soup... I would have comped it immediately had she told me anytime I checked on them, when they asked to split the bill, even before I paid her out. She had all the time to tell me, but waits until there is nothing I can do for her? I know it's frustrating, but if you aren't satisfied you need to say something! There's like a misconception that servers are mind readers, and while I wish I was, that is way above my pay grade.
