2023.05.27 21:04 pynchon42 Korean reproduction 30 carbine mag pouch -
| Went looking for other options for magazine pouches, specifically 30 round m1 carbine pouches as I'm not a fan of the 2 magazine (4 if you force it) rectangular Korean war variety. I found these at sarco inc. and thought I'd post some pics / a short review in case anyone else was interested. Pouches seem thinner than normal surplus usgi equipment. Snaps also seem a little stiff but I imagine that'll change with use. Each cell will hold 2 30 round m1 carbine mags for a total of 6 per pouch- or, as I was pleasantly surprised to discover, one aluminum 30 round 556 magazine (three per pouch). (i don't have any plastic 556 mags to try out, so idk about those.) The stitching seemed a little sloppy, several of the cells were accidentally stitched together, forcing me to pop a few stitches in order to fit both magazines in. Time will tell if this causes issues with unraveling stitches down the road. I don't think it will, but I don't know. The belt loop on the back is to small for a usgi web belt, but a 2 inch surplus west German belt fit through. While popping a stitch one one of the pouches I did rip some of the front piece of fabric running across the front holding the male part of the snaps onto the pouch. It isn't a big rip... But it was a little concerning how easily it tore. In short, I don't think these will hold up nearly as well as actual surplus but I do find them significantly more user friendly than the other available variety of 30 round m1 carbine pouches - and I expect they will serve my purposes well (larping at the range.) With shipping I paid just under $45 for the two pouches shown. Any questions, feel free to ask- if anyone knows of any other pouch options for m1 carbine mags, I'd be happy to hear about them. submitted by pynchon42 to M1Rifles [link] [comments] |
2023.05.27 19:37 Gingeneer1 How much does it generally cost to have a gunsmith check if a rifle is safe to fire?
Basically the title. I have an old M1 carbine that I’ve inherited and I’m trying to be responsible and go to a gunsmith to check if it’s safe before shooting. Anyone know how much this might cost? I am assuming under $100 since I would guess they are just doing a visual inspection but not sure how expensive gunsmiths are

Create with new devices Meet Wavetable, Echo, Drum Buss and Pedal: new devices that mean colorful new sounds are possible with Live’s instruments and effects.
Wavetable Immediately playable, infinitely capable, Wavetable is a new synthesizer built by Ableton. Shape, stretch and morph sounds using wavetables derived from analog synths, and a range of other instruments and sounds. Start sculpting sounds right away—even without a deep knowledge of synthesis—or explore its rich palette and potential through an intuitive interface.
Echo Echo brings together the sound of classic analog and digital hardware delays in a single device—your new go-to delay. Drive and shape sounds with its analog-modeled filters, turn up the noise and wobble for vintage imperfections, or add modulation and reverb to create diffuse soundscapes, wailing feedback and more.
Drum Buss Drum Buss is a one-stop workstation for drums, capable of adding subtle character or bending and breaking drums to your will. Add warmth and distortion with drive and crunch, take control of dynamics with compression and transient shaping, dial in and tune boom and control bass decay with the dedicated low end section.
RAR Password: www.4download.net
Pedal With separate circuit-level models of overdrive, distortion and fuzz guitar pedals, Pedal brings the character of analog stomp boxes to Live. The effect goes all the way from subtle to reckless—it excels at warming up vocals and other instruments, driving synth sounds or completely smashing drums. And of course, it sounds great with guitars.
Stay in the flow You’ll find improvements to Live that help you stay in the flow at every stage of your creative process, whether you’re getting ideas down, organizing your setup or editing the details of your music.
Do even more from Push Live 10 brings new functionality and new high-res visualizations to Push. Now you’ll spend even less time with the computer—whether you’re composing ideas, editing MIDI or shaping and mixing sounds.
New melodic step sequencing layout Simultaneously sequence notes and play them in from the same pad layout – the bottom half of the layout allows you to play notes in real time while the top half lets you sequence them.
Advanced Device visualization See Wavetable or Echo in rich detail on Push as you play. When mixing, you’ll see spectrum analysis on EQ Eight, as well as advanced Mid/Side and Left/Right EQ modes. Get real-time audio visualizations from Live’s Compressor: see threshold settings and compressor activity, plus set up sidechain routing.
MIDI note view Navigate and refine the notes of your pattern in context directly on the Push display. Press and hold a step in your sequence to zoom in and use the on-screen control to adjust velocity, note position and length.
New library of sound With new collections of Packs, Live 10 has more sounds that are ready for finished music, right out of the box. They’re set up for tweaking to your needs or taking in different directions. Plus the library has been reorganized to make it easier to find what you’re looking for.

2023.05.27 17:12 cdoggy17 Relocating to OC - Lost on where to live
Hey everyone!!
I am a mature student relocating to the OC from Western Canada to study medicine.
I have been searching up and down about honest reviews and info for where to live, but it seems to be a bit of a struggle. Being in medicine, I know I am going to be busy and preoccupied and I want to try and avoid as much of the renters chaos as humanly possible!
I was told by a few people (including local real estate agents) not to live in Anaheim, Santa Ana or anywhere up that way, so I was looking in Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and Irvine. Costa Mesa a bit too.
I am looking for 2 bed + den/3 bed options. I understand that rent is quite high (in comparison to where I come from!), so I am looking at things between/around $5000-$6000.
I would GREATLY appreciate any insight that can be offered!
EDITED: school is up in Pomona, but I do not want to live inland and will only need to commute twice a week.

2023.05.27 17:05 KyrieIrvingsmind HIPAA question
I am an M1 working on chart review, and while going through some patients with my PI and trying to understand how the info we need is organized, I looked up my own chart (I am a patient here) and spent a couple minutes trying to understand the layout of notes, etc.
A few days go by, and I realize that this is a potentially flagged event and hear that most places automatically flag this. I called compliance, IT, and they basically just said we can’t do anything unless you want to report yourself (not sure if they understood that I was asking if I should worry). I called the actual EPIC team, and they said I probably shouldn’t worry if I haven’t been contacted yet as it’s usually automatically flagged.
My question is, what should I do now? I tried to reach out to people, I told my PI who said don’t worry if they haven’t said anything and that they’ll make note that it wasn’t malicious if asked, but I’m still very worried! Please let me know if you have any advice, thanks!

2023.05.27 12:20 someone-shoot-me Macbook Air vs M1 vs M2
Zanima me:

2023.05.27 08:58 pseudoscience101 Content creation/gaming laptops under $2500 (New Zealand)
Hi all
I'm finally looking to get a new laptop for university and general use. My course is heavily content creation focused and I like to game so I'm looking for the best price/performance possible.
Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. $2500 in New Zealand
Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes but I much prefer things to be under warranty.
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Battery life is super important - I will be using this for uni and I don't want it to die in class if I charge it the night before. I'm aiming for thin and light, portable and durable, and the best performance possible considering the above. (Yeah, so basically the holy grail of laptops)
How important is weight and thinness to you? Quite important - it has to be portable enough for comfortable use at uni.
Do you have a preferred screen size? 14-16"
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Yes - need to be able to run the adobe suite and davinci resolve. I also want to be able to run CSGO at competitive frame rates, and just generally be able to game on it.
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? eSports titles eg. CS:GO, Overwatch, Valorant at 150+ fps, settings don't matter.
"Average" single player games eg. the witcher 3 at 80+ fps, low-high settings.
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I'm aiming to hit the following: - Dedicated GPU
- 16 GB ram minimum
- 1TB SSD minimum
- 120 Hz screen
- 1080 or 1440 p screen
- Bluetooth
- Webcam
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion
For non-kiwis: Most mainstream tech is available over here and 2.5k is about $1500 US.
Gaming performance isn't critical, I have a PC it would just be nice to be able to use it for everything if I have to start moving around (a fairly high possibility in the near future).
I will be picking up a second hand macbook m1 pro if I can get a good deal but I'd prefer windows for familiarity and the gaming potential.
I'm mostly eyeing gaming laptops, I'm just having trouble finding one that isn't thick as hell and has decent battery life (also, I want it to be subtle enough to use in a professional environment).
The main thing I'm having trouble with is finding something with good battery life as reviewers of gaming laptops tend to assume you're always using them plugged in.
I hate buying laptops because they always seem have a catch and I always get burnt so any suggestions are much appreciated, thank you! :)

2023.05.27 03:14 Appropriate_Trip_152 Feeling very let down by M1 MacBook Air (2020) - any recommendations?
Hi! First-time poster here, long-ish time macbook owner! Gonna put the full story in comments bc TLDR
I've found the M1 really disappointingly fragile. Had it for less than 2 years now, and while I've definitely treated it like a laptop computer - travel, into the office once in a while, keeping me company during lonely dinners, etc., I really don't feel like I've abused it. About 2 months ago, the keyboard stopped working. Got told the damage, and I was SHOCKED. Nearly as expensive as a whole new macbook (no apple care because I'm dumb). Last weekend, while the thing was on my lap, passed the mac from one hand to the other and must have just been unlucky with where I put my thumb. boom. Near enough 3-inch vertical crack in the screen, whole screen goes into a death sprial, right now maybe 30% if I'm generous is unaffected.
I'm MARJORLY bummed. All the macs I've had in the past, I've loved for being easy-to-use, but robust. They felt like you could stick them in a bag, get up and go whenever, wherever. I move about a lot for work, and I love traveling, and macs always seemed to accommodate that perfectly, but the M1 has fallen apart in less than 2 years, and I'm so disappointed. Looking about online, it seems the thinness has made them really fragile, but even with that I don't think I've manhandled this computer. Really hoped I'd have it for years, and I feel a bit cheated that fairly normal day-to-day use has resulted in catastrophic damage, and so fast. I feel a bit burned on this one honestly. I didn't even use up that much of the memory.
That said, what I have used, I'd like to preserve, and maybe transfer? Got my time machine all safe and stored on an external harddrive.
For next steps... Does anyone have any suggestions? I've been looking at ipads, because honestly these days I don't use my laptop for much beyond internet stuff, word processing/powerpoints, and some messaging and video calls. - The ipad pro seems really hot, but also the M2 chip sounds a bit like it doesn't... do that much, except bump up the price, at which point I might as well (I probably won't because like I said, I'm really disappointed) buy another macbook instead.
The ipad air almost sounds perfect to me, but 1. I'm honestly put off by it being so thin. If my macbook air got totalled, I don't see how this is going to be any more robust, and I don't want to be drudging through techblog reviews again for YEARS to come ahahaha. 2. It's also about the same price as the pro if I go for the larger memory size. At which point, I can't help but think I'd be better off buying something else.
The 10th gen ipad is also something I've looked at, but it seems like mayyyyybe it's coming to the end of its lifespan in terms of getting support from apple? Like I've mentioned, I'd really like my purchase to last (unlike my M1) and so if it can't handle new OS when they come out, and the support I can get in terms of accessories or idk, repair-type support from apple is going to disappear in 2 years time, then honestly I don't think it's worth the money. And with the keyboard, it's getting close-ish to the price of an air, anyway, soooooo...
What do y'all think? Any ipads/macs you've found are great value, and tough enough to actually use? Or should I just end my love affair with apple all together? Thanks for reading!

2023.05.27 02:24 tennisn00btc M1 Carbine (USGI) barrel band and recoil plate fit questions
Recommended to cross-post here:
- My recoil plate is snug against the action lug, no up and down/forward-backward movement. However, the plate can be shifted side to side (when not locked into the stock). Is this normal, or is the recoil plate supposed to snug-up on the sides as well?
- The bayonet type 3 band I have is very loose on the barrel, and there is about a 1mm gap all around. The sleeve is supposed to be tight around the barrel, is that correct?
Thanks!!

Let's get to it! https://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/h8/20230526/ https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/DPSACBW027SBOG A little over a year ago (4/13/2022) the high was hit at $18,158.3536 billion Date | Deposits, All Commercial Banks (billions) | Down from all time high (billions) | 4/13/2022 | $18,158 | 0 | 2/22/2023 (Run picks up speed) | $17,690 | -$468 billion | 3/1/2023 | $17,662 | -$496 billion | 3/8/2023 | $17,599 | -$559 billion | 3/15/2023 | $17,428 | -$730 billion | 3/22/2023 | $17,256 | -$902 billion | 3/29/2023 | $17,192 | -$966 billion | 4/5/2023 | $17,253 | -$905 billion | 4/12/2023 | $17,168 | -$990 billion | 4/19/2023 | $17,180 | -$978 billion | 4/26/2023 | $17,164 | -$994 billion | 5/3/2023 | $17,149 | -$1,009 billion | 5/10/2023 | $17,123 | -$1,035 billion | 5/17/2023 | $17,152 | -$1006 billion | All this money pulled from commercial banks as M2 (U.S. money stock--currency and coins held by the non-bank public, checkable deposits, and travelers' checks, plus savings deposits, small time deposits under 100k, and shares in retail money market funds) is decreasing: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/M2SL https://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/h6/current/default.htm A little less than a year ago (July 2022) the M2 high was hit at $21,703 billion Date | M2 (billions) | Down from all time high (billions) | July 2022 | $21,703 | 0 | August 2022 | $21,660 | -$43 billion | September 2022 | $21,524 | -$179 billion | October 2022 | $21,432 | -$271 billion | November 2022 | $21,398 | -$305 billion | December 2022 | $21,358 | -$345 billion | January 2023 | $21,212 | -$491 billion | February 2023* | $21,076 | -$627 billion | March 2023 | $20,840 | -$863 billion | April 2023 | $20,673 | -$1030 billion | \Bank run in commercial banks picked up in February 2023.) - M1 consists of (1) currency outside the U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve Banks, and the vaults of depository institutions; (2) demand deposits at commercial banks (excluding those amounts held by depository institutions, the U.S. government, and foreign banks and official institutions) less cash items in the process of collection and Federal Reserve float; and (3) other liquid deposits, consisting of other checkable deposits (or OCDs, which comprise negotiable order of withdrawal, or NOW, and automatic transfer service, or ATS, accounts at depository institutions, share draft accounts at credit unions, and demand deposits at thrift institutions) and savings deposits (including money market deposit accounts). Seasonally adjusted M1 is constructed by summing currency, demand deposits, and other liquid deposits, each seasonally adjusted separately.
- M2 consists of M1 plus (1) small-denomination time deposits (time deposits in amounts of less than $100,000) less individual retirement account (IRA) and Keogh balances at depository institutions; and (2) balances in retail money market funds (MMFs) less IRA and Keogh balances at MMFs. Seasonally adjusted M2 is constructed by summing small-denomination time deposits and retail MMFs, each seasonally adjusted separately, and adding the result to seasonally adjusted M1.
- Currency in circulation consists of Federal Reserve notes and coin outside the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve Banks.
- Reserve balances are balances held by depository institutions in master accounts and excess balance accounts at Federal Reserve Banks.
- Monetary base equals currency in circulation plus reserve balances.
- Total reserves equal reserve balances plus, before April 2020, vault cash used to satisfy reserve requirements.
- Total borrowings in millions of dollars from the Federal Reserve are borrowings from the discount window's primary, secondary, and seasonal credit programs and other borrowings from emergency lending facilities. For borrowings included, see "Loans" in table 1 of the H.4.1 statistical release.
- Nonborrowed reserves equal total reserves less total borrowings from the Federal Reserve.
However, borrowing from the liquidity fairy is spiraling to make up for it shrinking M2 and dwindling deposits: - Bank Term Funding Program (BTFP)

By providing ready access to funding, the discount window helps depository institutions manage their liquidity risks efficiently and avoid actions that have negative consequences for their customers, such as withdrawing credit during times of market stress. Thus, the discount window supports the smooth flow of credit to households and businesses. Providing liquidity in this way is one of the original purposes of the Federal Reserve System and other central banks around the world. The "Primary Credit" program is the principal safety valve for ensuring adequate liquidity in the banking system. Primary credit is priced relative to the FOMC’s target range for the federal funds rate and is normally granted on a “no-questions-asked,” minimally administered basis. There are no restrictions on borrowers’ use of primary credit. https://www.frbdiscountwindow.org/Pages/General-Information/Primary-and-Secondary-Lending-Programs.aspx Examples of common borrowing situations: - Tight money markets or undue market volatility
- Preventing an overnight overdraft
- Meeting a need for funding, including a short-term liquidity demand that may arise from unexpected deposit withdrawals or a spike in loan demand
The introduction of the primary credit program in 2003 marked a fundamental shift - from administration to pricing - in the Federal Reserve's approach to discount window lending. Notably, eligible depository institutions may obtain primary credit without exhausting or even seeking funds from alternative sources. Minimal administration of and restrictions on the use of primary credit makes it a reliable funding source. Being prepared to borrow primary credit enhances an institution's liquidity. Notice how use of the Discount Window has PLUMMETED as BTFP has come in to play? BTFP offers slightly lower interest and longer terms. I wonder how many folks paid back their Discount Window loans with BTFP money? https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/WLCFOCEL Tool | Other Credit Extension | Up from 3/15, 1st week of program ($ billion) | 3/15 | $142.8 billion | $0 billion | 3/22 | $179.8 billion | $37 billion | 3/29 | $180.1 billion | $37.3 billion | 4/5 | $174.6 billion | $31.8 billion | 4/12 | $172.6 billion | $29.8 billion | 4/19 | $172.6 billion | $29.8 billion | 4/26 | $170.3 billion | $27.5 billion | 5/3 | $228.2 billion | $85.4 billion | 5/10 | $212.5 billion | $69.7billion | 5/17 | $208.5 billion | $65.7 billion | 5/24 | $192.6 billion | $49.8 billion | "Other credit extensions" includes loans that were extended to depository institutions established by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The Federal Reserve Banks' loans to these depository institutions are secured by collateral and the FDIC provides repayment guarantees. For example, $114 billion in face value Agency Mortgage Backed Securities, Collateralized Mortgage Obligations, and Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities about to be liquidated 'gradual and orderly' with the 'aim to minimize the potential for any adverse impact on market functioning' by BlackRock. How I understand this works: - The FDIC created temporary banks to support the operations of the ones they have taken over.
- The FDIC did not have the money to operate these banks.
- The Fed is providing that in the form of a loan via "Other credit extensions".
- The FDIC is going to sell the taken over banks assets.
- Whatever the difference between the sale of the assets and the ultimate loan number is, will be the amount split up amongst all the remaining banks and applied as a special fee to make the Fed 'whole'.
- It can be argued the consumer will ultimately end up paying for this as banks look to pass this cost on in some way.
There has been an update on this piece recently: Whatever the difference between the sale of the assets and the ultimate loan number is, will be the amount split up amongst all the remaining banks and applied as a special fee to make the Fed 'whole'. FDIC Board of Directors Issues a Proposed Rule on Special Assessment Pursuant to Systemic Risk Determination of approximately $15.8 billion. It is estimated that a total of 113 banking organizations would be subject to the special assessment. https://www.fdic.gov/news/fact-sheets/systemic-risk-determination-5-11-23.html Funny, the usage this week appears to be down about as much as this assessment as well What does all this borrowing look like for the banks? They sure as heck aren't getting funding from deposits...: https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/13eme4d/bank_funding_during_the_current_monetary_policy/ Over the few weeks prior to the FDIC receivership announcements on March 10 and 12, the banking sector lost another approximately $450 billion. Throughout, the banking sector has offset the reduction in deposit funding with an increase in other forms of borrowing which has increased by $800 billion since the start of the tightening. The right panel of the chart below summarizes the cumulative change in deposit funding by bank size category since the start of the tightening cycle through early March 2023 and then through the end of March. Until early March 2023, the decline in deposit funding lined up with bank size, consistent with the concentration of deposits in larger banks. Small banks lost no deposit funding prior to the events of late March. In terms of percentage decline, the outflows were roughly equal for regional, super-regional, and large banks at around 4 percent of total deposit funding: https://preview.redd.it/zehzpnq8y92b1.png?width=572&format=png&auto=webp&s=a3c241c0b26a2092577cfff6a4e82bcd0e5961e6 The blue bar in the left panel above shows that the pattern changes following the run on SVB. The additional outflow is entirely concentrated in the segment of super-regional banks. In fact, most other size categories experience deposit inflows. The right panel illustrates that outflows at super-regionals begin immediately after the failure of SVB and are mirrored by deposit inflows at large banks in the second week of March 2022. Further, while deposit funding remains at a lower level throughout March for super-regional banks, the initially large inflows mostly reverse by the end of March. Notably, banks with less than $100 billion in assets were relatively unaffected. However, during the most acute phase of banking stress in mid-March, other borrowings exceeded reductions in deposit balances, suggesting significant and widespread demand for precautionary liquidity. A substantial amount of liquidity was provided by the private markets, likely via the FHLB system, but primary credit and the Bank Term Funding Program (both summarized as Federal Reserve credit) were equally important. https://preview.redd.it/naygb2qay92b1.png?width=557&format=png&auto=webp&s=6d140fd838be3bff4828536f6b31e6bd124cff8f - Large banks increased borrowing the most, which is in line with deposit outflows being strongest for larger banks before March 2023.
- During March 2023, both super-regional and large banks increase their borrowings, with most increases being centered in the super-regional banks that faced the largest deposit outflows.
- Note, however, that not all size categories face deposit outflows but that all except the small banks increase their other borrowings.
- This pattern suggests demand for precautionary liquidity buffers across the banking system, not just among the most affected institutions:

TLDRS: - Folks have pulled $1,006 billion in deposits since 4/13/2022
- Folks have pulled $538 billion in deposits since 2/22/2023
- Folks have pulled $16 billion in deposits since 4/12/2023
- Folks have added $29 billion in deposits 5/10-5/17
- The bank run takes a transitory break?
- With more and more money being pulled, where will collateral for short positions come from?!?...
- As we have seen above, so far it has been the liquidity fairy...

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share some my experiences (and a little advice) as a new part-time audiobook narrator. Here's my background, journey so far, studio setup, lessons learned, and some advice:
BACKGROUND:
- People have told me for as long as I can remember that I have a great voice and "should be on the radio."
- I've put my voice to work in my full-time job as a marketer and content creator for a local software company. I record audio versions of our company blogs, host podcasts, and do voiceovers for product demos.
- I've thought about narrating audiobooks for a couple of years now, mostly joking with my friends about recording "smut" (erotic/romance novels).
JOURNEY:
- After a lot of stewing, I finally decided to pull the trigger and invested about $300 up front to build a little at-home studio in one of my spare bedrooms. (more on my studio setup below)
- I started auditioning for projects in January 2023, focusing on erotic/romance novels, particularly in the LGBTQIA+ space.
- I auditioned for 18 titles over the course of three months, and have been hired for two of my auditions. I have also been hired for four additional titles that I didn't audition for:
- One project came from the same author as my first project - I asked if they had other titles that I would be a good fit for, and they did.
- The other three titles came from authors finding my profile on ACX and reaching out to hire me.
- I backed out from one of these before I submitted my first 15 minutes, mostly due to personal time restraints, but it was also poorly written and not edited, so I could tell it was going to be a difficult project to navigate. The author was very understanding.
- NOTE: I don't think my acceptance rate is normal this early in the game. I attribute this to the "niche" genre I picked. I very intentionally picked gay erotica and romance titles mostly for my own interests and amusement, but also because I assumed there would be less competition. Thoughts?
- I've completed 3/5 of my projects, all of which are 5-6 in length.
- Of my two other projects, one is about 60% recorded, and the other is HUGE (25 hrs. finished estimate) and is due at the end of the summer.
- 4/5 of my projects have been Royalty Share, and the fifth (the BIG one) is Royalty Share Plus.
- I've made about $19 from ACX so far (13 downloads from one title, the other two are still in review)
STUDIO SETUP:
- I work from home two days a week, so I converted my at-home office desk space into a mini studio.
- For a sound dampening chamber (pics below), I bought these furniture pads, doubled them up in three sections, joined them with these grommets, and hung them from my ceiling on this bendable ceiling curtain track. I pinned some remaining furniture pads on my wall and ceiling, and use one folded up to cover my air vent. I also grommeted one corner of the padded sections separately so I can separate the sections and draw the entire chamber back for an "open office" feel when I WFH. This also allows me to overlap the sections when I'm recording so there's no gap in the chamber walls.
- This sound chamber works pretty darn well. My ceiling is slightly slanted so there's about a 6-12 inch gap at the bottom, but it doesn't make a huge impact on the sound (and it's nice for airflow).
- I still pick up a tiny bit of room noise and I can't record if anyone is too noisy in my small house or in my yard, but my mastering tools help clean this up.
- For recording, I use the Rode NT1-A mic, the Focusrite Scarlett Solo audio interface, Audio-Technica ATH-M50X headphones, and this happy little mic isolation chamber. (the mic chamber is a tough fit over the NT1-A with my mic stand, but I managed to squish it on there).
- I know I mentioned earlier that I invested $300 for all this, but this list is more like $800. I was fortunate enough to have a family member "donate" his extra mic and headphones to the cause.
- For software and mastering I use Adobe Audition and a handful of plugins from Waves and Izotope (more on this in "lessons learned")
- For hardware I have a Macbook Air M1 with 8GB of memory. Not the best, but it handles everything surprisingly well, and editing on the go is great.
LESSONS LEARNED:
- A nice audio interface makes a huge difference. I started out using a really old audio interface that came with the Mic my dad lent me. I used it for my first project and the overall quality and background noise progressively got worse over time. When I bought the Scarlett Solo, all my problems went away.
- Good mastering takes time!!! I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so it's taken me a while to get into an editing and mastering flow that works for me.
- I like to remove ALL of my breaths (some people don't, but when I listen to audiobooks, breaths bug me) and make sure my silences sound natural. To do this, I create .5 - .6 seconds of silence to paste over breaths and long pauses. This is also a good length of silence for before/after most sentences (with some variation).
- I have 1-2-3-4-5 hotkey-ed on my laptop to fix plosives, repair, paste (silence), delete selection, and undo.
- Don't get suckered in to buying a TON of mastering plug-ins. On top of the $300 I spent on my at-home studio, I've probably dumped another $400 into various 3rd party plugins that were recommended from various YouTubers. I would say I use less than half of the plugins I've purchased, and many of them don't work quite as well as online reviewers say (at least for narrating). Here's a list of my standard mastering effects rack, in order of application:
- Normalize to -3db.
- I do this before I tinker with or apply any effects so I always have a semi-consistent baseline.
- Izotope RX 10 Voice De-noise
- I leave about 30 seconds of room noise at the beginning of each track, turn off "adaptive mode," loop the 30 seconds and click "learn." This does a pretty darn good job of removing the room noise.
- This comes with the all RX 10 Packages. I started with Elements and later upgraded to Standard when there was a sale. I kind of regret this. Standard didnt come with all the features I thought it would, and I dont use it very much. Oh well.
- Waves Renaissance DeEsser
- I played around with this and found a very happy, subtle setting that cleans up my sibilance just enough.
- Adobe Automatic Click Remover
- Audition's built-in click remover does a pretty good job. I have the threshold set to 93 and the complexity set to 20. It cleans up my clicks without being too destructive.
- Adobe Parametric Equalizer
- I payed around with this for a LONG TIME before I found a good setting for my voice. I followed this guy's process to find and remove harsh noises and find a good EQ.
- Adobe Single Band Compressor
- My voice fluctuates a TON while I record, so this (and the next plugin) are a MUST-HAVE to achieve ACX's required RMS.
- After I normalize everything to -3db, I run amplitude statistics and set my threshold to 6 or 7db higher than my average RMS. Then I have my ratio set at 3:1, my attack at 1ms, my release at 150ms, and my output gain to 3db. A lot of people recommend a more aggressive compression or output gain to achieve your desired RMS, but the next plugin helps with that.
- Waves L2 Ultramaximizer
- This is an AMAZING tool to help compensate for less compression when you're trying to hit ACX's RMS requirements. I'm not 100% sure how it works, but it makes the audio file look and sound much less "Squished" compared to more compression.
- I set my threshold somewhere between 7.5 and 8.5, my out ceiling at 3db, and my release at 1. Works wonders. NOTE: the lower the threshold, the higher the RMS - and Vice Versa.
ADVICE:
My biggest piece of advice is this: if you're going to get into part-time narrating, know that it's a pretty big time suck with a hefty learning curve and very little ROI. - I enjoy what I've built and love putting my voice out there, but it HAS come at a cost.
- I have a LOT less time to spend doing other things I love, and when I get behind on projects even a little, it can be super stressful.
- It has taken a toll on my physical health (less time to work out and LOTs of strain on my wrists from countless hours of editing.)
- I'm in the hole about $750 because unless you can nail down "per-finished-hour" projects, you likely won't get paid much for royalties unless you can land a super popular book (which is unlikely). (Fortunately, I have a good full-time job that affords me to invest in hobbies like this.)
- Since I'm in the "smut" space, I might experiment with other avenues of more profitable erotic voice acting (patreon, onlyfans, etc.)
That being said, it's been an enjoyable and rewarding experience overall. From my first job, to first published title, to first download and dollars made - I love knowing that my work is out there and people are listening to it.
I know this has been a LONG post (much longer than I thought it would be) but PLEASE feel free to ask questions, leave feedback, and offer advice. This has been a great community for help and advice on ACX, and I look forward hearing what you all think!
Cheers!
Adam Stone
TLDR: I started recording smutty audio books about 6 months ago. I've gotten some good traction and made almost no money. It's been fun!

2023.05.26 15:45 New-Chief-117 Running is Fine. XP nerf and British kit isn't.
I like the speed up running honestly. The footsteps audio is a bit too fast for it and I think it makes it seems faster than it is. It makes it easier to get to cover and close the distance for cqc. It was a 15% increase apparently and it is a bit. Maybe tone it down to 10% or maybe even have it like a tactical sprint where that speed can only last so long before going to normal run speed.
One thing I did notice was one guy tried to do the COD corner jump with it and it kinda worked but I think it fucks with the aiming so I was able to kill him. But if corner jumping became a thing it would need to be adjusted because that's some cod shit. And I like HLL because it isn't fucking cod. I don't have to sweat my ass off to have fun or be good. Preventing ADS while jumping could be a solution. Can't really ADS irl while jumping.
A bigger issue to me is the XP nerf. It was fine where it was before. Idk why they changed it. Played 2 games and the bar barely moved. Idk if it affected load out XP the same way tbh but still.
Also the British weapons imo are worse than the Russians. Only thing Brits have on Russians is the PIAT. Otherwise they have slow bold action guns, no semi auto, and the sights for the sten, bren, and the bolt action guns are terrible. Sten isn't too bad tho since I'm used to the grease guns bad sights. Bren with no bipod makes no sense. I like the Lee Enfield No. 4 but jungle carbine and p14 suck. Give the Brits m1 carbines and Tommy gun. Maybe even the garand. Ik the Brits rarely used them but they did a few times. At least for balance sake. And the bolt cycling should be a lot faster for the Lee Enfield.
The British need some adjustments. It's really tough having these weapons when most Germans on the other team are rocking STGs, G43s, MG42s, and MP40s which all have much better irons than the guns the Brits have.
The British seems to be a product made entirely by new devs and it doesn't seem like as much time and effort was put into them as the other 3 factions. Ik this update has only been out for a day but I think a quick and easy temporary fix would be to move around guns so there's more Lee Enfields available, increase bolt cycling, give the sten to more classes, put a bipod on the bren, and remove the p14 and jungle carbine. Replace some of them with m1 carbines. Also fix the helmets. The Brits look like a bunch of coneheads rn.

2023.05.26 09:18 samtaccc Touchbar discountinued in Macbook Air M1 2020?
I’m genuinely confused as I’m watching and reading popular reviews on MBA M1 they do talk about the Touch Bar feature. But when I check Facebook Marketplace for some preloved MBA M1 I dont see the touchbar on their laptop’s photos.. Also when I see recent post in youtube about MBA M1, the touchbar is gone???
Did they suddenly remove it on MBA M1? Or there’s 2 different version? Or I’m just tripping.. Please enlighten me. I wanted to upgrade from air 2017 to air m1 (mainly because of the touchbar and I saw a really reallyyy good deal online) but if it doesn’t have touchbar, I’m not sure anymore.
