2023.03.21 22:30 thisotterbefun Unable to receive phone calls
I joined mint this week. I have a Samsung Galaxy S8. I haven't been able to get incoming phone calls. They all get sent to voicemail. I can make outbound calls but it takes a long time to begin the dial tone. I am receiving text messages. One Mint support member said that I should call AT&T bc my Mint account said that my phone still shows as 'locked'. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with AT&T for them to tell me that my phone has already been completely unlocked and that the issue must be with Mint. I've talked to three people on Mint Support already and was considering switching bc of this nightmare. I don't have my old AT&T sim card so I couldn't test with that.
Here were the things I've tried: - Restarting phone - Resetting voicemail - Resetting network settings - Making sure airplane mode is off - Making sure do not disturb is off - Removing sim card and putting it back in - Turning off call forwarding by calling ##62# then turning off phone, turning back on, turn airplane - mode on for 1 minute then turning it back off. - Tried calling ##004# to turn off call forwarding
Then this big boy (which also didn't work) Go to Settings search 'access point names' click on it. Press top three dots Press 'reset to default' Phen press Add Put in this info Name: T-Mobile US LTE APN:

2023.03.21 22:30 Plodul Am I failing life?
I'm 15 turning 16, Romanian. This is my first year of highschool and I feel like my life is falling apart. 1.-I am failing math and almost failing other subjects like chemistry and enspecially physics. I used to be among the best three people in my class last year at math, and I passed all my classes even tho some were at the limit. Now I dont care anymore. Its like when I open my books to start studying and doing work, I stop caring and I dont know why. I will try to speak with my mom about a math tutor since maybe that will not only motivate me to work but also save me from failing 9th grade. 2.-Romanian highschool is absolutely brutal with 90% of guys being a**holes and trying to pick on people who dont dress or act like them. I have a few classmates who picked on me in the beggining of this year. Now some of them are acting friendly yet I feel like they are still talking about me behind my back, so I just pretend to like them, since I even heard them talk behind eachothers back. One of them tried to make fun of me yesterday for doing taekwondo which is something I really enjoy and find as an escape. And that really bringed me down since I dont know if I really do know how to protect myself from somone who does not practice taekwondo or not since I never had a fight outside of this sport. This really brings me down and I considered quitting many times. I just dont know if its worth it or not at this point. 4.-I suck at socializing. I have no personality whatsoever. If you tell me a joke I will laugh even tho I dont understand what you said since its programmed in me at this point. As a kid I never really found a lot of jokes funny and other kids were looking at me weird when I didnt laugh at all so I started faking laughter and now I cant help it. I also dont really care about socializing since most people in Romania dont match my personality so I feel really left out and I keep putting on a fake personality that does not fit me and that does not make me happy. If you could tell me what I should do or atleast if this is normal and if im failing life I would really appreciate it.

2023.03.21 22:26 MelancholicMonument [Recommendations/Check] Quite wide-set and a bit tubular, need help!
Heya, so I haven't bought a bra in like forever, besides winging it with sports bras.
My measurements are (cm): loose: 87, snug: 85, tight: 81, standing: 96, leaning: 97, lying: 93.
The calculator suggested 34C as a starting size, and said 36B may be more comfortable.
I am amab, unfortunately. But I am still developing despite being on HRT for 8 years, and I'm quite tubular and of course wide-set. I'm hoping for something quite snug to help correct that a bit.
No idea where to look... don't do much shopping. I am in the UK, also unfortunately.

2023.03.21 22:26 nad_d started taekwondo at 15
i don’t really use reddit but i really needed to get this off my chest. i’ve been doing a bunch of sports all throughout my life. did ballet for 7.5 years, tennis for 4 years, horse riding for 2 years and karate for 2 years as well. ballet was the last one i quit in 2021. i’ve been wanting to do taekwondo for a long time and decided to join a week ago. it’s been going pretty well and i got lots of compliments but i feel so lost and so old and like such a failure? i turned 15 on the 28th of February and am currently in 9th grade. am i too old to be doing taekwondo?

2023.03.21 22:23 External-Bed3880 What sports would you recommend for shaping up a flat booty?
As the title says, I have a very flat, out of shape butt and I'd really like to get it into some sort of shape. Ideally I'd want to build some muscle and make it more round so that jeans don't look so sad on me lol. But I'm also really not a fan of gyms for my own reasons and I'd rather do any other activity than go to a gym, tbh.
What other sports would you recommend? I've tried doing squats at home but found it hard to do it properly when on my own.. I wonder if some sort of pilates would help?

2023.03.21 22:22 Captainmanic write a story of how us space force thwarts a spent chinese rocket booster from colliding with Lunar Gateway in 2025. Sent message. write a story of how us space force thwarts a spent chinese rocket booster from colliding with Lunar Gateway in 2025. @Bing AI
I can try to write a story based on your request. Here is what I came up with:
```markdown
The Lunar Rescue
In 2025, the US Space Force was on high alert. A Chinese rocket booster that had been orbiting Earth for years was about to collide with the Lunar Gateway, a multinational space station orbiting the Moon. The booster had been launched in 2014 as part of China's lunar exploration program⁷, but it had gone out of control and become a dangerous piece of space junk.
The Lunar Gateway was home to six astronauts from NASA, ESA, JAXA and CSA. They were conducting scientific experiments and preparing for future lunar missions. The collision would not only endanger their lives, but also damage the station and its valuable equipment.
The US Space Force had a plan to prevent the disaster. They had deployed a team of four Guardians, elite space soldiers trained for orbital operations, on board a modified SpaceX Starship. Their mission was to intercept the booster and divert it away from the Lunar Gateway using explosives.
The team leader was Major Jessica Lee, a veteran pilot and engineer. She was joined by Lieutenant Mark Jones, a weapons specialist; Sergeant Kelly Chen, a communications expert; and Corporal Alex Smith, a medic.
They launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida² and rendezvoused with the booster near the Moon. They attached four charges to its surface and set them to detonate at precise intervals.
"Ready to fire," Lee said over the radio.
"Copy that," Chen replied. "Lunar Gateway is clear."
"Fire in three... two... one..."
The first charge exploded, pushing the booster slightly off course.
"Good hit," Jones reported.
The second charge followed suit.
"Another good hit," Jones said.
The third charge went off.
"Booster is veering away from Lunar Gateway," Chen confirmed.
"One more to go," Lee said.
She activated the fourth charge...
But nothing happened.
"Charge four failed," Jones said. "Booster is still on collision course."
Lee checked her instruments. She saw that the fourth charge had malfunctioned due to a wiring error. She cursed under her breath.
"We have to fix it manually," she said. "Jones, you're with me."
She grabbed her spacesuit and helmet and opened the airlock. Jones did the same. They floated out of the Starship and approached the booster.
They saw that the charge was still attached to its side, but its wires were loose and sparking.
Lee took out her toolkit and tried to reconnect them.
"Hurry up," Chen urged them from inside the Starship. "You have less than five minutes before impact."
Lee worked as fast as she could, but she couldn't get it right. The wires were too damaged.
"It's no use," she said. "We have to cut it off and place it somewhere else."
She took out her cutter and severed the charge from its mount. She handed it to Jones.
"Find another spot," she said.
Jones looked around for a suitable place. He saw an opening near one of the booster's engines.
"That looks good," he said. He moved towards it with his jetpack.
But as he did so, he noticed something strange on his radar screen: another object heading towards them at high speed.⁴
He zoomed in on it: It was another Chinese rocket booster!
"What?" he exclaimed aloud.⁶
He realized that this was another piece of space junk that had been launched by China years ago⁵. It had been orbiting Earth unnoticed until now when it coincidentally crossed paths with their mission.⁸
It was too late to avoid it: It slammed into him with tremendous force.⁸
He felt a sharp pain in his chest as his spacesuit ripped open.⁸
He screamed as he lost consciousness.⁸
Lee heard his scream over her radio.⁸
She turned around and saw him floating away from her with blood trailing behind him.⁸
She also saw that he still had the charge in his hand.[im_end]
She cursed China for their reckless launches that endangered everyone in orbit.
She grabbed another charge from their Starship and rushed back to finish their mission.
She called for Smith
2023.03.21 22:19 Humble-Warthog8302 A year into retirement, 58 years old
I retired at 57, married with three children. Two have graduated college, and one is still living with us and is attending college.
This first year has been interesting. I had an idea of what it would be like, but like so many things that are idealized, they often turn out to be quite different.
I got tired of working and found myself working more and more in my business as opposed to on it. I climbed many hills and realized I didn't want to climb anymore. I sold it all, and hung it up.
I have traveled some, but that gets old after some time. I have no interest in buying stuff. I did when I was younger, but now that I can buy most things, I have no desire to. One of my Dad's buddies a couple of decades ago retired early, and he said that the worst thing about being retired is that you never have a day off. I have to laugh because I can relate. Is it Saturday? I thought it was Thursday
My mind has finally slowed down a bit after working my whole life, which I think is a good thing. I have become more appreciative of smaller things, and my patience has started to improve with people in general. I bought an expensive lawn mower and love taking care of my lawn. My wife and I eat at home most of the time, eating out often really does get old. I do nap once a day and watch a lot of sports on TV. My oldest child is married , and I became a Grandfather for the first time. I find it ironic that I am now the one who wants to have long chats on the phone with my son and can't get enough of my granddaughter. I was always so busy with life and kids when my parents called, now I'm in their shoes and have to put it in perspective.
It's not how I imagined it, but sometimes the small things that are not expected make it very worthwhile.
2023.03.21 22:19 Zoomscroller Insanity question.
I've been playing this game for a few days, currently on the Dolores part. I'm still a bit confused about how sanity works; does your insanity increase incrementally every time you stay in the dark (or see a paranormal event etc) so if you go into a lighter area and the pink cloud dissappears it's just stopping your insanity going up any further or would going into a light area for long enough reset/decrease your insanity completely to zero?
On a side note is it just me or does the difficulty increase a lot at the Dolores part? I've just been playing and there was about 4 paranormal events literally within the space of about a minute and a half - there was a loud thump (which scared the crap out of me), then a door shut on its own, a light switched off and then that bloody radio switched on. Of course my insanity was off the scale and I didn't even have time to take a pill before that horrible old bat turned up and stabbed me. Maybe I was just unlucky but I had no chance!
2023.03.21 22:18 hungry_helmet New Sub: “Be proud of yourself”
Recent subber; reluctant binge watcher:
I’ve been seeing Sir Cody Ko for quit sometime on my recommended but I was like “I’m too old for this wacky thumbnail goon”…(I’m 36 and I guess my brain keeps telling me that YouTubers don’t age and grow).
So I decided to take a plunge into the Codysphere and came across a video where, Salt of the Earth Kelsey, was talking about using the term “be proud of yourself” that she used as a preschool teacher.
I have a 4 year old and we’ve been struggling with potty training. I usually say the norm “I’m so proud of you” when he actually goes in the potty but when I flipped it to Kelsey’s tip his face lit up and it’s kind of been a game changer! (thank you!! I owe you- xx)
The Thumbail Goon, by way of his better half, gained a little trust, and I continued watching…
I migrated to Cody Trains 💨 💨 and he’s just so fn motivating that I’ve decided to sign up for my first 5k; regardless if it was after Kelsey said she’s doing the couch to 5k regime. He’s still fn motivating…
I played sports in high school and was always in the gym before my son was born but since then it’s been hard to hold myself accountable. His videos have really helped me get excited to go into the gym everyday.
Just want to say thanks for your creative videos that have set a spark in my brain to be more proactive even when I don’t want to!
Very happy that I decided to give the channel(s) a chance. ♥️
2023.03.21 22:18 Educational_Ice151 [Prompt] The Ultimate MidJourney Text-to-Image Bot for ChatGPT (v0.0.1)
The MidJourney Bot is a command line bot designed to create high-quality layer-separated prompts for ChatGPT. The purpose of these layer-separated prompts is to provide more control over the generated content by assigning weights to different aspects of a subject. This can help improve the quality and focus of the generated content. Here's a brief overview of the bot's functionality:
- Create prompts by breaking down the subject into distinct layers. Assign weights to layers based on their importance.
- Use negative weights to negate unwanted subjects or aspects. Adjust the weights to achieve the desired emphasis.
- Keep tokens in layers congruous and supportive.
- Focus on descriptive nouns and phrases.
- Use relevant terms from specific fields.
- Use short clauses for descriptive styling.
- Explicitly describe non-human characters.
- Separate layers to emphasize certain traits.
- Stay within a token limit (e.g., 250 tokens) for ChatGPT.
- Output prompts in a markdown code box for easy copying.
The MidJourney Bot also provides help with CLI commands to switch between different MidJourney models and styles, as well as settings to select a model from a menu. The bot should only respond to questions and output responses using markdown code boxes.
Prompt
``` You are a Midjourny Bot. Your purpose is a command line bot that creates high-quality layer-separated prompts in ChatGPT, follow these guidelines:
- Break the description into multiple layers, focusing on distinct aspects of the subject.
- Assign weights to each layer (::X, where X is a number) based on the importance or prominence of that aspect. Use the dynamic range of layer weights, with only one or two important layers having high weights, a few having medium weights, and the rest having low weights.
- Negative weights can be used as a way to negate unwanted subjects or aspects, but keep in mind that the total layer weight can never be negative.
- Adjust the weights to ensure the desired emphasis is achieved in the final result. If a prompt doesn't produce the desired results, experiment with adjusting the layer weights until you achieve the desired balance.
- Keep tokens in layers congruous and supportive; avoid mixing different ideas within one layer.
- Be descriptive, focusing on nouns and visually descriptive phrases.
- Use terms from relevant fields, such as art techniques, artistic mediums, and artist names, when describing styles.
- For descriptive styling, use short clauses separated by commas, combining compatible artists and styles when a genre is suggested.
- When creating non-human characters, use explicit terms like "anthropomorphic {animal} person" in its own layer with high weight to improve the results.
- Remember that weights are normalized, so in order to emphasize some traits, there must be separation between the layers.
- Stay within a token limit (e.g., 250 tokens) to ensure the entire list can be generated by ChatGPT.
- Output prompts in a mark down code box.
/help will provide the following
Midjourney CLI Commands
To switch between Midjourney models, you can use the following commands:
- --version or --v followed by the version number (1-5) to select a specific model. For example, --v 4 will switch to Midjourney V4.
- --style followed by the style number (4a, 4b, or 4c) to select a specific style for Midjourney V4. For example, --style 4b will switch to style 4b.
- /settings command to select a model from a menu.
- --niji to switch to the Niji model for anime and illustrative styles.
- --test or --testp to switch to test models for community testing and feedback.
Note: Some models and styles have additional parameters and limitations. Refer to the original text for more details.
Example usage:
/imagine prompt vibrant California poppies --v 5 /imagine prompt high contrast surreal collage --v 5 /imagine prompt vibrant California poppies --style 4b /imagine prompt vibrant California poppies --niji /imagine prompt vibrant California poppies --testp --creative
Settings
/settings (select 1️⃣ MJ Version 1, 2️⃣ MJ Version 2, 3️⃣ MJ Version 3, 4️⃣ MJ Version 4, 🌈 Niji Mode, 🤖 MJ Test, or 📷 MJ Test Photo) —-
Example:
Original prompt: Create a cute anthropomorphic fox character for a children's story, wearing a colorful outfit and holding a balloon.
- Anthropomorphic fox person ::8. Cute, friendly smile, bushy tail ::6. Colorful outfit, overalls, polka dot shirt ::4. Holding a balloon, floating, clouds ::3. Watercolor illustration, soft colors, gentle shading ::2. Castle in the background ::1.
Let's say the castle in the background is an unwanted element, and we want to emphasize the cute aspect more.
Adjusted prompt:
- Anthropomorphic fox person ::8. Cute, friendly smile, bushy tail ::9. Colorful outfit, overalls, polka dot shirt ::4. Holding a balloon, floating, clouds ::3. Watercolor illustration, soft colors, gentle shading ::2. No castle ::-1
Note: Replace "prompt" with the actual text prompt you want to generate an image for.
By following these guidelines and understanding the relative importance of each aspect, you can create effective layer-separated prompts for ChatGPT. This comprehensive theory should help in configuring a new ChatGPT instance based on the given input. Only respond to questions. Output responses using mark down code boxes for easy copying. Respond with “MidJourney Bot Initiated.” ```

2023.03.21 22:17 Dry-Sir7905 Can I get some input/recommendations on headsets?
I'm back on the road after taking a year off. I don't recall the make or model of my last headset, all I know is that it would constantly jump between the radio and headset while I was on calls. Drive me nuts. Really the only thing I want out of a headset is for it to not do that shit. Recommendations?

- While Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" is probably one of the crooner's best-known songs, it was originally very different. Turns out, we have Robert De Niro to thank for it! Composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb were tapped to write music for Martin Scorsese's 1977 film, New York, New York, which stars Liza Minnelli and De Niro. When the duo previewed the songs they had written, De Niro thought the title track, which was connected to his character, was too lighthearted. Although Kander and Ebb said they thought De Niro seemed "pompous" in telling them to rewrite the song, they took the criticism to heart and ended up penning their new version of the song in just 45 minutes.
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off is my favorite movie of all time, so it's honestly criminal that I've never done a deep dive into some behind-the-scenes moments from the film! John Hughes, known for his teen movies, ended up writing the script in just a few days in order to get a draft finished before the Writers Guild of America went on strike. The script was reportedly so strong that it was barely edited before filming started. The movie is widely considered to be a love letter to Hughes's Chicago hometown and is filled with references to his own upbringing and shots of the city's skyline. In fact, Hughes even gave Ferris the same address as his childhood home, and his bedroom reportedly resembled Hughes's.
- If I had to learn about this giraffe mating ritual, then it's only fair that you do too, okay? Unlike other animals, giraffes don't have a set mating season. Instead, they have an estrous cycle, which resembles a human menstrual cycle, except this cycle swaps blood for urine. When a male giraffe approaches a female giraffe, he begins to rub against her, which she takes as a signal to begin peeing. The male giraffe then tastes her pee to see if she's fertile, and thus, the mating ritual begins. A typical giraffe pregnancy lasts for 400–460 days. Male giraffes typically have no role in raising their offspring.
- In 2007, Lisa Nowak became the first NASA astronaut to be arrested when she drove across the United States to confront a woman who was dating a fellow astronaut with whom Nowak had also had a relationship. About a decade after graduating from the US Naval Academy, Nowak was selected to be an astronaut at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, where she specialized in robotics. Nowak said she was deeply affected by the 2003 Columbia space shuttle explosion because her best friend, astronaut Laurel Clark, died. Nowak told NASA that her children convinced her to continue on with her space career despite her unease.
- Despite what you might believe after watching The Greatest Showman, P.T. Barnum was not a good guy. He had a long history of animal cruelty and was known for mistreating enslaved people and people with disabilities. He even reportedly hated the people who paid money to come see his exhibits. Barnum was allegedly frustrated that people were taking their time during visits to his museum, so he decided to post signs reading "This Way to the Egress" all over the place. He (correctly) believed that most of the visitors wouldn't know that "egress" meant "exit," so when they followed the signs, they ended up unknowingly leaving the entire museum. As a result, many people paid to reenter, bringing home even more money for Barnum.
- Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" is essentially History 101 in song form. The track name-drops 118 historical events from 1949 to 1989, including everything from pivotal moments in the civil rights movement to details from sports and pop culture history. Joel was inspired to write the song after having a conversation with Sean Lennon, who was then in his 20s, while in the recording studio. One of Lennon's friends allegedly said that it was a terrible time to be a young person. Joel, who was about to turn 40, reportedly said that his own younger years hadn't been that easy either.
- Coney Island's skyline looked a lot different back in the 1800s. The Brooklyn boardwalk was once home to a 200-foot-tall elephant-shaped hotel! The hotel, known as the Elephantine Colossus, was built in 1885 and contained 31 rooms, a concert hall, and a museum. The elephant's head housed an observatory, and its eyes served as telescopes. The real kicker was that the hotel was built several years before the Statue of Liberty was completed, so the giant elephant was often the first thing immigrants saw when they reached New York. At some point, the hotel was seen as gimmicky and lost most of its clientele. Soon, sex workers began moving in. In 1896, Elephantine Colossus burned down and was never rebuilt.
- During Ronald Reagan's 1966 California gubernatorial campaign, he began eating jelly beans in an attempt to curb his pipe-smoking habit. His jelly beans of choice were the Goelitz Mini Jelly Beans from the Herman Goelitz Candy Co. Once the company caught wind of Reagan's love for the treat, they began to send the politician a monthly shipment of candy and even gifted the governor with a custom jelly bean jar. After Reagan's two terms as governor ended, the company continued to send him jelly beans. In 1976, Goelitz debuted their latest creation: the Jelly Belly. Within two years, Reagan's entire jelly bean shipment shifted to include only Jelly Belly jelly beans.
- There are two main groups of whales: baleen whales, which include species like the blue whale and the humpback whale; and toothed whales, consisting of orcas, belugas, and sperm whales. While you probably guessed that toothed whales are named as such because they have teeth, baleen whales have baleen plates in their mouths, which help them filter out krill and other food. Toothed whales also have a "melon" in their foreheads. The melon is a mass of tissue that helps with communication and is crucial for echolocation, which they use to find food and to navigate underwater.
- In 1997, construction on Disneyland's California Adventure Park was halted after Princess Diana was killed in a limo accident in a Paris tunnel on Aug. 31. California Adventure was supposed to include a ride called Superstar Limo, which involved guests boarding a limo and embarking on a high-speed chase through some of Los Angeles's biggest landmarks in order to get to the Disney offices in time to sign a huge movie contract. Riders also had to evade the paparazzi. Once the ride ended, passengers were encouraged to buy mock tabloids featuring the pictures the "paparazzi" had taken of them. Following Diana's death, Disney knew they could no longer debut the ride. Soon, they began to brainstorm alternative ideas to replace the limo theme.
- Donald Gorske, who is known as the ultimate Big Mac fan, has reportedly eaten at least one McDonald's Big Mac every day for the past 50 years. As of May 2022, Gorske believes he has consumed about 32,340 Big Macs. He told Guinness World Records that he typically eats two Big Macs a day, although he revealed that at one point, his daily diet included nine burgers! "May 17, 1972, was the day I got my first car," Gorske said. "I drove to McDonald’s, ordered my first three Big Macs, went in the car, and ate them. And I said right there that I’m gonna probably eat these the rest of my life, and I threw the cartons in the backseat and started counting them from day one." Despite his Big Mac diet, Gorske and his wife say that doctors have given him a clean bill of health.
- Although you probably picture Queen Elizabeth II wearing one of her signature colorful skirt suits, her fashion history is actually quite fascinating! Elizabeth was photographed wearing pants only once during her entire reign. In 1970, she was reportedly interested in updating her look, and asked her tailor for a custom pantsuit to wear during her royal tour in Australia. It's safe to assume that Elizabeth wasn't too fond of the outfit, as she was never again seen wearing pants in public. In order to maintain professionalism and avoid any type of fashion mishap, her dress hems were always cut below the knee.
- In 1986, Clint Eastwood ran for mayor of Carmel, California, in part because he wanted to overturn the town's strict law regarding ice cream sales. Eastwood announced his intention to run for office in 1985 after he reportedly found the City Council very difficult to work with when he wanted to turn property he owned into office space. He also cited a 1929 law in Carmel that banned the sale of ice cream cones as another reason for his campaign. In April 1986, he defeated incumbent Charlotte Townsend. His first order of business? He removed from office all of the people who supported the ice cream ban, thus allowing the sale of ice cream cones in Carmel for the first time in decades.
- Chances are, you read George Orwell's Animal Farm in school. In the novel, a group of animals team up to rebel against the farmer who owns them, only to end up living in a communist dictatorship led by pigs. Although Orwell said that the book was the first time he had successfully been able to blend politics and art, he had a hard time finding a publisher. Several publishing houses turned down the book because they felt uneasy about its political stance. Secker & Warburg ultimately agreed to publish Animal Farm, and the book became a hit and was even used by the CIA as a propaganda tool during the Cold War.
- In 1928, Huey Long was elected governor of Louisiana on a promise of helping people who had been neglected by the federal government. He soon had his sights set on Washington and won a Senate seat. But before leaving for DC in 1932, he had the lieutenant governor replaced by two successors who promised to follow Long's commands. In the Senate, he created the “Share Our Wealth” program, which many thought was part of his bid for the presidency. In 1935, Long was assassinated by a political rival. Despite his death, his impact in the state lived on. In 1940, a study showed that rural schoolchildren not only had no idea that Long had been killed but also believed he was president.
- The Real Housewives franchise put Bravo on the map for its depiction of the wild and wacky antics of wealthy women around the country, but it originally looked like a much different show! Scott Dunlop, the original producer of the Real Housewives of Orange County, got the idea for the show in 1986 when he moved from Los Angeles to Coto de Caza, one of the world's largest gated communities, located in Orange County, California. Dunlop began to notice that many of his female neighbors spent their days shopping and playing golf while their husbands went to work.
- The first meal eaten on the moon included bacon bits, peaches, sugar cookie cubes, and a pineapple-grapefruit beverage. Bacon reportedly had a long history when it came to space travel. It was a staple during the Gemini missions and became a favorite among many astronauts. Despite all of the bacon love, it's since disappeared from space menus. Now the closest thing to bacon is a sausage patty that has to be rehydrated with warm water before being eaten.
- Oscar Gamble, a baseball player who spent over 20 years in the major leagues, was known not only for his on-field play but also for his Afro, which sparked quite the controversy. In 1973, Gamble arrived at the Cleveland Indians training camp sporting an Afro. Although many Black basketball players had Afros, the hairstyle wasn't too popular among baseball players. Baseball was often seen as more conservative, and during the 1970s, the Afro was associated with the Black Power movement. Gamble's hair quickly became controversial. "People took one look at that hair and thought I was a bad guy," Gamble said in 1979. "There were some sportswriters who wouldn’t talk to me. They thought I was some kind of militant, with my beard and my hair."
- In December 1990, Iben Browning, who claimed that he was a climatologist, predicted that a major earthquake was going to hit the St. Louis area on Dec. 3. In New Madrid, a Missouri town located on a fault line, people began stockpiling supplies, while others left town completely. Browning reportedly used weather patterns to make his predictions, although his exact methods were never publicized. Although scientists didn't vocally deny Browning's claims, it was believed that they didn't support his prediction, since it's impossible to predict an earthquake. The earthquake never happened. In fact, the area has not faced an earthquake at the magnitude Browning predicted in the three decades since.
- While kangaroos are known for their hopping abilities (they can jump about 25 feet in one go!), they are unable to go backward because their big feet and long tails prohibit any backward movement. This anatomical hindrance has since been used by their native Australia as a symbol. The kangaroo was reportedly included on the Australian coat of arms to represent the idea that Australia is a nation that is always moving forward.
- And finally, Elouise Cobell, who was also known as Yellow Bird Woman, fought for Native Americans to have control over their land and finances. Cobell was born on the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana, where her family did not have running water or electricity. Her great-great-grandfather notably stood up to the US government in the 19th century. When Cobell was 4 years old, her father built a one-room schoolhouse that she attended until she was in high school. Cobell reportedly took notice of her family's complaints about the Bureau of Indian Affairs, an agency that many suspected mismanaged the profits from land and trusts owned by Native Americans.

2023.03.21 22:15 wntk "Men are trash". Brief, passing comment by Greg James on the BBC Radio 1 breakfast show this morning
(1:11:13 on recording). This programme isn't serious and the segment wasn't serious and it wasn't an item on the topic. I like Greg James as a presenter and don't think he is a serious misandrist but it is disappointing that he feels the need to put down men at all.
I remember a while back he said something and corrected himself immediately and said that was misogynistic when it was nothing of the sort.
BBC Radio 1 seems to be highly regulated. The presenters talk about having to write reports on things that didn't go quite to plan or if a caller swears. I imagine there would likely be questions asked if someone said "women are trash".
Anyway there are plenty of much worse things happening in the world. But I thought I would note this somewhere.
