2023.03.31 08:07 bignippy How do I deal with difficult coworkers?

Hi everyone. Sorry for the long post!
Tldr; boss treats me different to others when doing jobs together (negatively), boss and coworker are condescending and make me feel inadequate at my job, how do I deal with this?
So I started a kind of dream job as an arborist almost 5 months ago, everything job wise is going great, I love the work and the potential of what comes next, it's super fitting for my personality. For context I'm female, so this kind of career path for a woman is a bit out of the norm. I've struggled a lot with being surrounded solely by men and the feeling of needing to prove I belong in my job, that I'm good enough/have the drive to become good enough to keep up. It's hard, but feels super accomplished. When I started I definitely wasn't up to scratch with what everyone else can do but I've become so much stronger and more competent in my role, I have a long way to go but I've come so far and I'm really proud of myself.
The issue I'm facing is a couple of my co-workers cause my brain to do a serious backslide on my confidence with so many of our interactions. It's nothing sexist or anyone outright saying I don't belong where I do, it's a bit more regular difficult/annoying coworker.
When I started I had this great boss who made me feel super comfortable with my progress and any mistakes I made, they left and now another guy has taken over his role. And don't get me wrong, the guy in question is fantastic at his job, I aspire to be as capable as him one day. But the way he treats me is confusing and to me feels degrading. He's extremely sarcastic and snarky in the blokey bloke kind of way, passing off harsh comments about my work as humour. He either won't let me have a go or when I do try something new he'll nitpick everything I do, won't let me just figure new things out, or legit take the tool off me after 5 minutes with no feedback so I don't know if he's taking it off me because I'm not doing a good job (which I think would be shit anyway) or he's just sick of watching me doing something, I have 0 idea it's really odd to me.
The job I do also requires a lot of communication to make sure everything is safe (key fucking point, it's a dangerous job, we NEED good communication), but when I do a job in tandem with this guy he gets very blunt and huffy whenever I ask for clarification or communication. For example, while rigging (i.e. lowering big branches to the ground using a rope) I always try make sure I know how big the branch he's going to cut will be so I can figure out if I can rig it down without extra tools or I'll need the friction device. When I ask he'll either speak to me like I'm an idiot or just won't reply. The kicker for this is I've watched him with the other guys and he enthusiastically answers any of their questions and allows them time to adjust themselves and do what they need to do on the ground. This is one example of many, it blows my mind.
A major problem with this is I'm a very socially anxious person, if I'm around someone I feel doubts me or puts me down a lot it seriously stresses me out, leading to me becoming really flustered and I end up making really simple mistakes or missing simple things, essentially making me look shit at my job. (It only happens in front of these two guys because everyone else makes me feel comfortable enough).
There's also just a lot of snarky comments veiled as humour that make me feel like shit or that I'm some kind of joke. This is usually enjoyed by the other problem guy at work who's extremely condescending towards me (he'll cut me off mid sentence to say hurry up with what I'm doing even though there's no rush and he stands around and chats half the time, then runs over to me and PULLS THINGS OUT OF MY HAND to do the job I'm already doing, that I would say I wasn't doing that slowly), he also does the same behaviour with not letting me have a go or figure things out, or just tell me what to do when it's completely unnecessary in a very condescending tone.
These two are definitely the "fan faves" of the workers, one of which is still an apprentice and I feel gets unfair advantages over the other apprentice that's been there similar time (but that's just my opinion). Usually if both of them are there, I'll be having a shit day. One on one time with either is usually fine too, so idk if they're just trying to show each other up/peacock their position of power.
All of this isn't made easier by the fact I'm not super comfortable around men, there's maybe 1 or 2 men in my life I feel completely relaxed around (who aren't my dad), I'm not sure why I'm like this but it's a big player in feeling comfortable in my environment. Talking to guys is way harder than talking to women for me (in a platonic way I mean, not intimately or whatever), and building friendships seems to take way longer with men than women for me (which isn't for a lack of trying, I've tried very hard to be friends with everyone at work, go to every work event for outside socialising, we've even worked away together and slept in the same house for up to a week at a time, but I still feel I can't break that barrier with these two).
Basically the comments and the behaviour make me extremely anxious and feel inadequate, like I'm the village idiot who can't do anything right and that I'm as incompetent as when I first started, like I haven't made any progress (which I know isn't true). It's hard to ignore them because one of them is my literal boss, if I don't look like I'm doing a good job in front of him I won't progress and I'll get left out of opportunities that further my skills. The only way I can think to resolve this is by having a one on one chat (very carefully) to basically ask him to stop making me feel like shit and give me a better shot at figuring things out.
So essentially I'm here to ask, with some of the details, what the fuck do I do about this? I really don't want my dream job to be tainted by people who make me feel less than. Just to be clear as well, I don't think any of this is motivated by sexism or anything, I've seen him act this way to other apprentices and new people. I just wanna be able to enjoy my job again and focus on becoming better at what I do.

2023.03.31 08:07 Mysterious-Advance73 My graduation speech to my little sister. What do you guys think?

This is copy-paste directly translated from Norwegian btw, so if there's any errors, sorry.
"[name], you weirdo, rabble, and son of a bitch, now you've gotten yourself into trouble I don't like at all! Now you've become a big kid! * I remember the little girl who took all the attention from her brother when she came into the world; * the same girl who would bite the thumb of her older brother who was too stubborn to share his video game; * the same girl who tormented her brother by bringing wild strangers to visit her; * and the same girl it was impossible to share a bed with in the caravan because it was so cramped and you needed all the space and the duvet.
The person I see now, however, is not the same tormentor I had to deal with. Now I see a tormentor who, in a couple of years - a maximum of 10-30 years - will become society's problem. - This is not the girl whose brother wanted to ask lots of questions about My Little Pony after one more episode. - This is not the same girl that the brother wanted to "borrow" money from to buy a video game you barely got to play yourself... Yeah, about that... - This is not the same girl who would show the world that she was better than everyone else!
Over the years that I've gotten to know you, I've learned that, despite the snobby attitude and profanity, you're really not as cruel to have as I thought you were. You have been my rock, helping me through hard times, still doing it even now, and being my best friend that I could talk to about anything (Except for the nasty stuff because, Come on!), and actually be sure and proud that you have my back through thick and thin. Without you by my side, I don't know what would have happened or not, so I am infinitely grateful for that. I thought it was the big brother's job to look after his sister, but really I think you've been looking after me.
You're a weirdo, hopeless, annoying, and I'm so proud of you, and I can't wait to see what great things get out of you, and all the bad choices you're going to make — but still stick with Pepsi Max and Samsung! - that will make mom or me worry about you. When it comes to you and guys, which you've probably noticed I haven't said anything on, then you get to hear my opinion through my gift (Pepper spray) to you. [name], for others when they are going to spend the night with me, then I prepare the mattress on the floor for them to sleep on. But for you, the sofa/bed is free (just let me know first so I can clean it up, because, you know me). - Everyone cheer for this hopeless kid! CHEERS to [name]!"

2023.03.31 08:07 RemixedHD PSP library is better imo

I'm not a huge fan of the vitas library. Don't get me wrong there are tons of titles I can get hours of fun playing, it just feels like most of them are kind of the same game just different skinned/slightly different story and cast. (Mostly talking about visual novels/RPGs) for example I played through persona 4 golden and that's the most I've invested into a visual novel/RPG and it was really good but I just dread most visual novels because I'd rather see some eye candy cutscenes. Now let's talk about the PSP library. Holy shit does it go hard. Let's be real the only downside to majority of it's games was the lack of a second analog which the lovely vita brings to the table. Playing games that were difficult to play on the PSP like armored core and most fps games. There was a wide variety of games too from tony hawk , twisted metal, to some AAA quality stuff like metal gear and god of war. Death Jr was fun too.
Just wish vita got a lot more love in the states. It's popularity in Japan just made it's library filled with endless visual novels and jrpgs. Which isn't my cup of tea. Might be for others just not mine. It's a shock they didn't even get a dedicated GTA title. With how uncharted turned out I bet it would have been pretty nice

2023.03.31 08:06 Parking_Hornet_7036 The Silence is so Loud

You know that feeling you get when you've met your person? It shocks you because you weren't expecting it, but at the same time you're ready for it. When I met him I knew it wasn't time, and was okay with waiting. When I saw him again year's later I thought it was our time, yet he never showed any signs of liking me. There's that but its all far too complicated to tell him how I feel, not only that, but I'm so much younger than him. I only come on here to just shout into the void, instead of it pillow at night. I've never loved another person like this, but on the other hand I've never had a relationship. Nothing between him and I ever happened, just hanging out. I never wanted to make him uncomfortable, and I've tried to show signs, but in my heart I feel like he doesn't like me. He would have shown it by now, like I have, or shown interest in being friends at least. I mean, he dates really pretty girly girls apparently, I'm like not really that. I can be girly, but masculinish on some days. He's more feminine energy and I have masculine energy, we balance each other out. We reflect each other in the most beautiful ways, good and bad. I didn't fall in love with quickly, it was like when you fall asleep. It happened slowly at first, then it's all at once. Yet I was the only admirer and observer, the only one falling, I've always been that. I can't help I feel this way, but I feel disgusting for it too. I know I shouldn't, but he's so much older, and it's all too complicated, he's in my life too much too. I let go of him, but ill see him on Instagram, or somewhere else. It comes flooding back to me, just the sight if his face, it brings back why I love him. He's too involved with the people close to me, but I'm mature enough to keep him in my life. I can hide my feelings, and not make him uncomfortable, thats one thing I don't want to do. So many women have fallen for him and make him uncomfortable, because they won't leave him alone. I want him to stay, even if that means being friends, or whatever he thinks of me as. Not everyone feels the same towards each other, and that's okay. I'm just scared one day ill have to watch him fall in love, but at the same time ill be happy for him. He deserves someone to love him as much as he loves others, even if that means more than me, or someone else. I want him to be happy, I want him to feel the way he makes me feel. He's perfect, to be me he is, and he deserves to know that. He always willake me feel this way. I won't love anyone as much as I love him, because no one ever cam be him.

2023.03.31 08:06 Prior-Assistance6447 My MIL’s dislike for me is growing since we started enforcing rules around LO with her.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, my MIL seems to think our rules around our LO don’t apply to her. She does whatever she wants, even if it directly goes against something we’ve asked her to do/not do. She acts like she’s the “Alpha mom” since she’s my wife’s mom and has made comments about how she’s the most important grandparent. Her actions have caused a lot of issues for my wife and me. My wife and I are on the same page when it comes to her and we have recently started enforcing our boundaries with consequences.
Due to MIL’s behavior, she has proven to be someone we cannot trust to be alone with our LO. When we’re all together and she’s holding LO, I watch her like a hawk, which she has noticed and HATES. Haha. MIL is the kind of person who never takes responsibility for her actions and is always right, or so she thinks.
She vented about me to my SIL, my wife’s older sister, who is very loyal to us and told us everything. In short, my wife has changed so much since we got married and it’s all my fault. Um, ok? People change as they get older. Pretty sure that’s normal. She thinks we’re super strict with her when it comes to LO (we are, but only because she has proven to be untrustworthy) and surely none of that is coming from my wife. Only my influence could’ve caused this. Hahaha this just shows how little she actually knows the adult, married version of her daughter. For example, my wife didn’t want her in the delivery room (completely her choice) since she knew MIL would just make things more chaotic. So after MIL invited herself to be there, my wife politely told her no thanks.
I don’t care about my MIL’s opinion of me. Im going to protect my LO from anything and anyone that might intentionally or unintentionally harm him, including MIL, and my wife 100% agrees.

2023.03.31 08:05 idrkanymore44 PTJ writing

Have you guys been enjoying the total switch in Lookism's writing? Because It feels like After 2A the story Is all plot driven and the characters we love and full of personality are now plot slaves (Mainly Vasco, Zack..even Jay a bit). I know there Is a limited space, but I think It would be nice if PTJ actually showed some personality in them after all of their crazy trainings. Cuz Zack is still Zack, Vasco Is kinda onedimensional, but we haven't seen no one from J-High atp, weren't they absent for like 2 months since 3A? I'm loving the current arcs dont get me wrong but It would be nice to see at least Daniel's class reaction to his weight loss, and It would be also nice to see how Hudson Met Og Daniel, how Vasco reacted to Danny being skinny etc. I mean, for example, God Dog, Hostel, even 3A/4A were packed with action but still full of personality.

2023.03.31 08:05 Heli_Petunia is the reason emails don't work for me because of ADHD??

So I just saw a post on this sub about struggling to send emails and it hit me like, WAIT, i have the same exact problem too. 2023.03.31 08:05 joehensonn E-Vignette in 2022?

I recently entered Slovenia from Italy at the Škofije border in a rental car and as we landed late, ended up just driving straight to our AirBnB forgetting to purchase a vignette online. I realised as soon as we entered the country but we were already on the highway. I took the immediate first exit after the tunnel, and have checked on Google Street View to see if there are cameras but Google haven’t updated in the past 3 years and afaik, the vignette system has changed from just on the spot fines to cameras that check. Does anyone know if there are any cameras on that initial stretch of highway from the Škofije border to the first exit on the H5 after the tunnel? Conscious the fine is 300+ EUR!

2023.03.31 08:05 StepwiseUndrape574 Rockstar Launches GTA+ Subscription Service With Member Exclusive Benefits But Is It Worth It?

Once upon a time, it was commonplace for online games to have subscription fees. The earliest popular graphical online games, including Ultima Online and EverQuest, all had recurring service fees, as did many games that came after, such as Final Fantasy XI and World of Warcraft.
That model has largely given way to the "freemium" model where the publishers give the game itself away for free, but much of the game's content is locked behind the choice of either extended play times "grinding" for materials, or the option of skipping that grind with a real-money payment.
However, some games have both, and that usually includes the longest-lived and most-successful ones. Sega's ten-year-on Phantasy Star Online 2 is free-to-play, but has extensive cash purchases and also has a "premium" subscription available. In Final Fantasy XIV and the venerable World of Warcraft, the subscription fee is still required despite the presence of a cash shop.
carmeet
Grand Theft Auto Online has a lot of similarities to what we usually think of as qualities of "MMO" games. While it isn't "massively multiplayer" on a local scale—sessions normally include a maximum of 32 players—there are tens of thousands of players online at any given moment. It has named player characters with persistent progress and all of the other things we think of from MMO games: equipment, appearance customization, player housing, difficult multiplayer "raid" events, and so on.
With that context in mind, it probably shouldn't be a surprise that Rockstar is launching a subscription service for GTA Online. It's called GTA+, and it costs $6 a month. Ponying up for the premium subscription earns you a cool $500,000 in the in-game GTA$ currency every month and extra GTA$ on "Shark Cards," as well as exclusive benefits. Here's the list of benefits for the first month: The Principe Deveste Eight — along with a complimentary Hao’s Special Works upgrade for it before it is made available to purchase by the general public — plus the HSW Orange Trip and HSW CMYK Glitch Liveries. The Auto Shop located in La Mesa, introduces an assortment of gameplay updates from Los Santos Tuners. Current Auto Shop owners can relocate to La Mesa at no additional cost. Waived LS Car Meet Membership fees. Current LS Car Meet members with GTA+ will be reimbursed GTA$50,000 during this event period. Yacht owners can upgrade to the Aquarius Super Yacht at no additional cost. The Gussét Frog Tee and Broker Prolaps Basketball Top and Shorts automatically added to your wardrobe. The Conveyor Livery for the Mammoth Avenger, HVY APC, and TM-02 Khanjali. A selection of free paints and emblems for the Auto Shop. 3X GTA$ and RP on Hao’s Special Works Race Series. 2X Car Meet Rep on the Street Race Series. It would be easy to criticize Rockstar for this move because the company has already taken $60 of your money for the game. That's to say nothing of the grind-heavy nature of GTA Online that practically forces players to purchase Shark Cards for in-game currency if they want to make progress at any kind of reasonable rate. There's also the fact that the company is charging money for what is honestly an extremely minor update on the current-generation consoles.
In the interest of fairness, though, we'll note that many players who bought GTA V (including GTA Online) purchased it nearly a decade ago. Just like other major online games, GTA Online has seen years of additional content and improvements through continual updates, and that stuff does cost money to create.
deveste eight The Principe Deveste Eight, one of the rewards for subscribing this month.
If you own GTA V, you don't actually have to pay Rockstar anything to play it for the rest of eternity, so giving players an option to spend a little every month to support continued development is fair. However, the list of benefits, at least for the first month, is pretty weak.
There's another caveat, too: this program is only available to players on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. We've asked Rockstar if GTA+ will be coming to the PC version, and will update this post if we get a response.

And what are the ways I can get scamed?
I am about to take an international freelancing offer of a client and the client can only pay through paypal, I have researched a lot about scams, it says that client can send u money but then cam ask for refund and paypal will support the client instead of the freelancer and my account will show negative balance. How can my account showed negative balance if I never used the particular money sent by my scamming client as they r the ones asking for refund?
How do I trust people, I am scared cause like I want ro freelance to support my family as we r little tight on money but won't want to get scared and put my parents money to fulfill the negative balance.
Any advice as a freelancer or anybody in general is appreciated.
Please help me with this as I am trying but it still is confusing.

2023.03.31 08:04 meeklou 21 [M4F] New York City - Latino here just looking to have fun

What’s up so I’m a 21 year old Hispanic guy from Harlem NY. My social life is practically non existent, I have a few online friends here and there, but most of them are from high school. Even then I barely speak to them. Not gonna lie, I do have social anxiety and some learning difficulties. Thank god I was able to graduate from high school in 2020. unfortunately, I feel as though my teenage years were kinda wasted. I never got to enjoy them as much as everyone else. I was too focused on just finishing school and having fun at home. Girls around my way were never attracted to me, not because of my looks but because of my personality. I’m not a loud outgoing person. I don’t like dressing urban, listening to drill music, or talking in slang or with a heavy NY accent. And Yes, I’m a nice guy. I don’t consider myself better than others because of the the type of music or shows I like to watch either. Because don’t get me wrong I love many genres of music and movies…and I love pasta. I really hope to find that special girl one day though. it’s quite lonely where I am.

2023.03.31 08:04 Lownleyangel How do we talk about noise complaints/place some boundaries about guests w/ our roommate?

Without too much context my one roommate and I need to talk to our third roommate about the upstairs suite’s noise complaints that they refuse to be mindful of / continue to have large groups of people over at ungodly hours without much consideration for the upstairs neighbour’s and even when it is also affecting myself and other roommate’s sleep / work.
We don’t want to make them feel shitty as we also value them as our friend and they’re not a bad person, it has just been excessive and has been brought up to the landlord now, too and even i feel there needs to be some set boundaries and rules that are respectful not only to upstairs but also us individually.
I was thinking of having a discussion like “we as roommates need todo this / be more considerate” so it doesn’t feel so targeted.
I also only moved in a month ago and didn’t realize how much this person parties (other than this I have no ailments about my living situation / and no I’m not gonna move out as it’s unrealistic lol.)
I just want to have a respectful conversation that communicates and gets the point across to this person as my other roommate and I are very aware of the issue but the third roommate doesn’t seem to care

2023.03.31 08:04 Lofilady96 Husband goes soft

My husband (32) will want to have sex and as soon as it’s time for him to penetrate me, he goes soft. It’s a horrible hit to my ego because I don’t feel attractive to him because he loses his erection. I always end up being so embarrassed I rush to the bathroom and throw my clothes on. He says it’s not me but he’s the kind of person to avoid conflict and doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings so I don’t trust it. Has anyone else’s marriage and sex life suffer from this sort of thing? I’m about to swear off sex completely because I’ve never had this issue before but married someone who doesn’t sexually want me (or it atleast feels like that).

2023.03.31 08:04 exploding_myths Nikola to sell stock at 20% discount to record low price

Electric vehicle maker intends to sell shares for $1.12 apiece after closing at record low of $1.40
Nikola Inc. shares closed at an all-time low Thursday, and the maker of electric and fuel-cell vehicles expects to sell stock at a 20% discount to that price.
Nikola announced Thursday afternoon that it intended to sell $100 million in shares to the public and another $100 million to an unnamed investor in a direct offering. Later Thursday, however, the company said that it would instead raise $100 million total, splitting the shares between the public and the unnamed investor, and charging $1.12 per share.
Nikola's stock (NKLA) closed Thursday at an all-time low of $1.40, and moved to $1.30 a share in after-hours trading, following the announcement of the initial version of the deal. Nikola announced the price of the deal and the changed terms after the extended session ended.
Nikola reported that it expects to sell about 29.9 million shares to the public at the offering price, and about 59.4 million shares in the private offering, totaling roughly $100 million. The company could offer about 4.5 million more shares through its underwriter, Citigroup Inc. (C).
Nikola began producing an electric freight vehicle in 2022, producing 133 of the vehicles in the fourth quarter, when its revenue disappointed investors. The company intends to deliver another 250 to 350 of those trucks in 2023, executive projected in February, and begin producing its hydrogen fuel-powered version in the fourth quarter, when executives intend to deliver 125 to 150 of those trucks.
The company reported a net loss of $784 million for the year, and cash and short-term investments of about $244 million when 2022 ended. Analysts on average expect the company to report a net loss of about $155 million for the first quarter, which ends this week.
Nikola's founder, Trevor Milton, was convicted of securities fraud last year for promises he made about the company's work on hydrogen-fueled heavy trucks. Milton's replacement as CEO lasted about three years before leaving the company at the beginning 0f 2023. Nikola's chief financial officer announced her departure earlier this week, and was replaced by the company's controller.
Shares have plunged 87.4% in the past 12 months and 35.2% so far this year, as the S&P 500 index has declined 12.5% and gained 4.9% in those periods respectively.

2023.03.31 08:04 4thDevilsAdvocate I've thought of a way in which the Kolshians could've started out genuinely well-intentioned, then slowly rotted into the authoritarian, imperialist, genocidal Federation people in Nature of Predators have to put up with.

Sure, it could've been that the Kolshians (or, at least, their government) were always rat bastards. But is that really the best possible way to write them? It's sort of like Chaos corruption in WH40k, you know; "slow descent into committing atrocities because of their own petty arrogance" is much more appealing than "they were evil from the beginning and had no choice in the matter".
Anyway, this is going to be a bit long for something that's technically not a fanfic.

Think about this through the lens of mosquitos and houseflies.
Mosquitos and houseflies are to humans what predatory wildlife likely was to pre-Federation herbivore societies: that is, they used to kill massive numbers of people, either directly (via predation) or indirectly (via disease), and many people find them disgusting and horrifying, but sanitation/extermination has kept their populations manageable.
Now, imagine if you managed to cause world peace by uniting the world in an effort to exterminate mosquitos and houseflies.
This sounds ridiculous, but stick with me.
Oh, sure, maybe you're causing the ecosystem to collapse, because both mosquitos and houseflies are probably actually fairly important to the biosphere, but there's no more war, or racial or religious conflict, or nationalist violence, and with those barriers out of the way, poverty and starvation and many types of disease are next. You're surprised, of course, and didn't know this would work, because normally people don't get along so easily, but somehow it does work and things are looking up.
Time passes. Technology advances. Your civilization expands. Generations of leaders grow up, lead, and then die. Exterminating mosquitos and houseflies on your planet goes from the Next Big Thing™ to just something your people do as a matter of course. You can't exactly stop, because then all the societal progress you've somehow made so far will collapse. And look how far you've come! You've achieved world peace, eradicated hunger and poverty, started planetary unification, ended racism and sectarian strife, and removed the threat of world-ending nuclear war by getting everyone unified around killing mosquitos and flies!
Your civilization goes to the next star system over. It has a habitable planet in it. On this planet live unintelligent lifeforms vaguely similar to mosquitos and houseflies, so you kill them all. That biosphere collapses too, of course, but this is an acceptable cost, because exterminating mosquitos and houseflies is, for some reason, holding your society together incredibly well, and you can rebuild it in the future (you think).
More time passes. Technology advances more. Your civilization expands more. More generations of leaders grow up, lead, and then die. Exterminating mosquito-equivalents and housefly-equivalents on other planets goes from the Next Big Thing™ to just something your civilization does as a matter of course. You can't exactly stop, because then all the societal progress you've made might collapse. And look how far you've come! You've turned yourself into a prosperous Type 1 civilization simply by getting everyone unified around killing some stupid bugs!
Your civilization goes to the tenth-next star system over. It has a habitable planet in it. On this planet live unintelligent lifeforms vaguely similar to mosquitos and houseflies, as well as intelligent lifeforms which are non-bugs like you. The intelligent non-bugs live in peace with their environment, but have the same societal problems you did way back in the dark days before you unified the entire planet around hating bugs. What's a biosphere in comparison to world peace? Why should these aliens suffer, un-unified as a people, just because they haven't figured out how to hate the bugs yet? And your civilization clearly knows better, because it's solved its problems already. Now, you can solve other people's problems too!
So you kill the mosquitos and houseflies. You uplift the primitives; although a few things don't quite make it through the process. Wouldn't want the bad bits left in their culture, now, would you? Things are now much better for them, as far as you know. Sure, their biosphere collapsed, but you can rebuild it anyway (in the future).
Even more time passes. Technology advances even more. Your civilizations expand even more. Even more generations of leaders grow up, lead, and then die. Purging bugs on other planets, as well as uplifting the intelligent, pre-FTL species on those planets, goes from the Next Big Thing™ to just something your civilizations do as a matter of course. You can't exactly stop, because then your societies will certainly collapse. And look how far you've come! You've turned yourself into a peaceful federation of interstellar races simply by getting everyone unified around purging bugs!
Your civilizations go to the hundredth-next star system over. It has a habitable planet in it. On this planet live unintelligent lifeforms which are vaguely similar to mosquitos and houseflies, as well as intelligent lifeforms which look awfully like they're part-mosquito or part-fly.
Well, shit. That's an issue.
You can't exactly leave them as-is, because then you'd have to kill them all, of course, and you're a Peaceful Interstellar Federation™ who doesn't even think about such things. But you can genetically alter them into not being part-bug anymore! And, besides, who'd want to be part-bug anyway? Bugs are vermin. Bugs are horrible. Bugs are so horrible, in fact, that your ancestors knew they could achieve planetary unification around killing them all. All the history textbooks say that, and, as we all know, history can never, ever be interpreted incorrectly.
Honestly, you're doing these part-bug people a favor.
So you kill all the unintelligent bugs. You genetically and hormonally alter the Yotul part-bug people. You uplift the now-no-longer-part-bug people, although you have to leave the bug parts of their culture out, of course, we wouldn't want disgusting shit like that contaminating Federation culture. There are some regrettable instances of individuals who don't know their place, and a few semi-sentient insects need...liquidating, but things are now much better for them, as far as you care. Sure, their biosphere collapsed, but you can improve it (someday). And is it really their biosphere if they don't know how to take care of it properly?
Silly primitives.
Even more time, technology, expansion, changes in leadership, fossilization of existing doctrine, you get the gist of it. Purging bugs on other planets, as well as genetically/culturally purifying and improving the intelligent, pre-FTL species on those planets (even if they're icky part-insect degenerates) goes from the Next Big Thing™ to just something you do as a matter of course. You can't exactly stop, because you're a superior species whose job it is to lead the lesser beings into the light. And look how far you've come! The Federation is on its way to being a Type 2 civilization simply because all of it is unified behind you around exterminating vermin!
Your civilizations goes to the thousandth-next star system over. It has a habitable planet in it. On this planet live unintelligent lifeforms which are vaguely similar to mosquitos and houseflies, as well as intelligent lifeforms which look awfully like they're part-mosquito or part-fly. And they eat little, unintelligent versions of you for dinner. What the fuck. And most of these "Arxur" all-bug-people are talking about "peace" and "jesus christ please don't burn us alive?"
Ew.
Anyway, this is going to be a little messy. Well, if you gas all their prey (as well as the more bug-like parts of the population, let's not forget the eugenics!) maybe you can get a jump start the genetic improvement process, so let's get on that. Oh, shit, they're reverse-engineering your ships after shooting them down. Oh, shit, it's the bug version of the Nazis (something called the "Dominion", led by a "Prophet") doing the reverse-engineering. Oh, shit, they just took over the entire planet. Oh, shit, they're after you, all of you, including the lesser races, and now they don't really want peace anymore.
Oh, shit, you're not really much different at this point, are you?

Now replace "bugs", "mosquitos", "houseflies", "vermin", etc. with carnivorous lifeforms/"predators", and replace "you" with the Kolshians, and, by the end of the story, you have the situation at the beginning of the Nature of Predators main timeline.
If you want to really get the gist of it, re-read it after reading it once and look for the tonal shifts throughout it. The mindset of the narrator, as well as their word choice, changes over time.

2023.03.31 08:03 Ornery-Dig-4908 I’m tired. I need a break

I want a break from my relationship, yes, I love him, I’m thinking of him 80% of the time. We have a long distance relationship, and it does take a long of energy to talk after he comes home from work (around 00:00 my time, I’m European, he’s American). I usually wait for him so that we talk for 5 minutes and then go to sleep. I share everything with him but I fail to say that I’m tired of everything. I’m tired of my job (and I love it), I’m tired of being contacted and having to contact people. I’m tired of taking care of things, I’m tired of commuting. I’m tired. I despise the idea of waking up the next morning. I lost the joy of little things. I lost the shine and happiness I used to have. I want to have time for myself, not being contacted, not going out, not doing anything but worrying about small things like doing grocery shopping alone (I live alone so, that’s good) . I’m scared of telling him that, I know I need it but he has a temper and if he gets mad because of it, he might just break up. I’m scared and tired.
