Hi everyone. I'm new here, but I'm at my wit's end with my 14 year old daughter and based on some other conversations I've read on here, I thought maybe someone might have some advice for me.
She's in 8th grade and has missed about 25 days this year and always complains of being sick in the morning. Lots of stomach aches and "I feel like I'm going to throw up". It's generally random and doesn't seem to match up with anything, in particular, going on at school that we're aware of. It's generally random and a day or two here and there. She almost always seems to feel fine in the evening and we've only had one recent incident of her actually getting sick.
We've taken her to the doctor multiple times trying to see if there's something actually going on. They've done tons of tests and the only thing that's ever come back is her most recent bloodwork showed her blood sugar slightly high and her iron slightly low. We've now started her on a daily vitamin for iron and have had some conversations about the types of things/ways to eat to help with blood sugar.
She missed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week. The first time we've had 3 days in a row. On Wednesday, she threw up in the afternoon at which point, I'm feeling like the asshole because now she's actually sick and I didn't believe her based on what's been happening the rest of the year. Thursday she says she's still not feeling well and I let it go because she actually got sick this time. Thursday night, she's acting completely normal, eats a normal dinner and we discuss full intentions of going back to school. Friday morning rolls around and we're back to not feeling well enough to go to school again.
We've moved on to taking away all screens and not allowing phone, tv, etc when she stays home from school, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. She is on sertraline for anxiety, but in every other aspect of her life, that seems to be helping immensely now that we've gotten her medication and found a good dosage. She's been on that for about a year now.
She's getting straight As in all of her classes and always keeps up with homework and make-up work when she misses.
I just don't know what to do. Am I overreacting and I'm the asshole? Should I keep taking her back to the doctor and pushing for more tests? What else can I do to get her to go to school?
Any help or advice anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for taking the time to read!

My OB’s nurse from the hospital just called me out of the blue to book a time to “come in and pick up your diabetes kit” and that I’ll have to attend diabetes classes 🤡🤡🤡 great. I did the 1 hour glucose screening test last Saturday and since then have been contacted by my GP and my OB’s nurse about my low iron but nothing else. No indication that I failed this test. I feel blindsided. I was told my result was “6.4”
I’m also confused because AFAIK that test is not diagnostic and if you fail you have to do the 3 hour test to determine GD - why are they jumping right to GD treatment and acting like I have it? Shouldn’t that news come from a Dr also, not a nurse calling me from the hospital? Also, the nurse asked me if I fasted before the test to which I replied no because I wasn’t told to. She then told me that I’d have to repeat the test if I didn’t fast??? I am so confused and anxious, really didn’t need this on top of the most stressful week of my life.

So I am a 25 year old 5'11 indian guy. I am an electronics engineer. Due to the lockdown and a lot of inactivity I ballooned upto 103.5 kgs or around 229 lbs. Around mid August I decided that enough is enough and I needed to make a change to my life and my lifestyle. I started working out, joined a jiujitsu class and started doing intermittent fasting. In around 4 months I lost around 33 lbs or 15 kgs. I plan to get to around 165 lbs and participate in an iron man marathon and also maybe compete in mma, be it as an amateur.
The finish line is far but I am not stopping anytime until I achieve what I have set out to.
There are a few life lessons that I learnt from this journey until now that I would like to share for anyone who is going through the same struggle:
1.) First step is actually the toughest - What I found out a month in my training is that it is very easy to get trapped in a vortex where we keep delaying what we need to do. The inertia from not doing anything is too big and making the first move is actually very hard. We keep delaying it thinking once we start, we are not going to stop and thus it is fine to rest for one more day. That one day turns into weeks and months. So anyone who in this phase, please make one move start from something small such stopping to drink coke or eating sweets for a day. Take one small step.
2.) Rome wasn't built in a day - Now obviously we can't get in the shape that we thought of in one day or achieve whatever we set out to in a day or even a week or a month. But what I found out that before starting to train, I always had the thought process that I have a very strong will power from whatever I have done in my academics and research and that is going to permeate in my physical training as well. Well after just a day or two, I found out that it is not true. We cannot carry forward same level of tenacity from one field to the other. It takes time to build up that level of commitment and discipline. So anyone who is trying and failing to follow a particular regimen, please be patient. It is fine that you have failed today. Atleast you tried and I don't even mean as a consolation. The fact that you tried means you are one step closer to be better. And in some time you will see the number of days where you falter and do not follow the routine become less and less.
3.) Happiness is not in the end goal, it is in the journey you undertake - If you are thinking that the day you will achieve what you set out to, is the day you will enjoy, then you won't be able to complete the journey. You have to find happiness in your daily or weekly success that only you know. They may sound insignificant to others but that's not even the point. You can't get happiness from showing others that you achieved something. True happiness is innate and it only comes from the realization that you are better, you are improving. For me I set every Friday as the day I used to check my weight. Some weeks I lost 1 lb of weight. In absolute terms it is not much but I was the happiest in the week, at that moment. Honestly, I couldn't stop smiling as it validated the fact that I was on the right path and my work was paying off.
I think this post is getting too long. There are few other points that I think will help people on their own journey of growth and self discovery. I will write another post if people are interested to read.

As The Renewal Symphony penetrated the Oort cloud and sped on, LIDAR picked up a small craft. The New Horizon's probe sailed in the night, alone for many years on it's once solitary journey out of the system.

Seeing a kindred idea sharing their space, as the large vessel revealed itself to the probe, it launched one of it's own. As the moon sized vessel spun and flung on past New Horizons, the probe made contact, and began it's work.

In the John's Hopkins Applied Physics Lab control center, everything started going wild. "Sir, we have a velocity change in the New Horizon's probe."

"Run a diagnostic, it'll take a while to get a signal back." was the reply from the office. Ranstetter was a lazy Mission Command, but then again, at this point there wasn't supposed to be a lot of things to deal with day to day.

Instead of the usual slow data transfer, the entire room was astonished to see a huge packet download at speeds unheard of, home internet speeds from a deep space probe was just not possible.

At the beginning was a note. "The Sentients of The Renewal Symphony bid the people of Earth farewell and good luck. May we meet when you've grown up. Please be kind to one another, and stop tearing each other apart. We hope to meet you out there as equals.

As a parting gift, we have upgraded your New Horizon's probe with one of our hard light thrusters, new repair and scanner technology, and even a new power supply. With these upgrades, you should be able to make Proxima Centauri in forty years.

Alongside the missive and letters to loved ones left behind was technical schematics for a low powered hard light thruster, and the means to make power gems from any radioactive materials, carbon, and iron.

As the USASF tried to lock the entire thing down, New Horizons started broadcasting the entire thing on all radio bands. For two days every radio and wireless internet connection was jammed up and forced to take the message over and over. The genie was out of the bottle, and everyone from foreign governments to some goober in a garage could now make a space ship from little more than trash and a holo tv.

Danny was excited. Mom and Dad was out of the house for the weekend, and he was getting left alone for the first time. They normally didn't do this, but both had work obligations, and wasn't allowed to bring him along. He rubbed his 9 year old hands together, and plugged in the thumb drive into the holo tv.

As he scrolled through the menu that pulled up, he smiled as he saw a particular one. he pushed it, and when the television asked him to indicate where to make it, he indicated his back yard.

He smiled, and ran his fingers through his afro, imagining how jealous Frankie would be. She had a toy one, and here he had the real deal. Rubbing his brown hands toigether, he started climbing up the ladder.

"Umm, right, witnesses have said that from a child's back yard someone built and started operating what witnesses call a Veritech Fighter. They saw it take off from the back yard, turn into a robot, before laying waste to an abandoned warehouse. Authorities are searching for it, but have had to hand the case off to USASF as the robot turned into an F-14 and flew into space."

"Right. So this is what's normal now? Well, you know what, I QUIT!" the newscaster flailed with her earpiece and threw it at the camera as she left the stage, screaming "Fucking bullshit I can't report this kind of crazy shit!" she kept screaming as she left.
After a moment of silence, the camera panned onto mark, who adjusted his tie, then looked at the camera, and adjusted his tie with a throat clearing. "We apologize for the technical difficulties, we'll be back after a commercial break." he said, and the camera went to a jingle for Nintendo Power Tool Chest.

Danny made it back home, face flush, after hiding his VF-1 in the hills, and ran back. He'd made sure it looked like someone broke in and stole the TV, and a few other things, so he didn't get in trouble. He'd been doing what a 9 year old's supposed to do, go outside and play.

But as the keys to the freedom of heaven was now granted to everyone, others plotted to slam the gates shut forever, to keep their power from leaking through their fingers. Citizens from almost every nation were using these programs to make all kinds of ships and leaving Earth, or simply using the technology to do as they please.

I'm absolutely miserable; stuck living in my toxic home-life, feel hopeless and desperately want to enjoy my 20's rather than wasting them. That's the worst of it, knowing that my they are spent stuck at home with zero interesting life experiences and without escape.
I'm unemployed but have a guaranteed job offer on the way as well as two interviews next week which is good and I also have around £1500 in savings. My dream is not just to escape home but to travel and climb a mountain, you know have cool adventures? Simple goals really but its all I want.
In terms of good habits I have recently learnt how to control my diet and I go on daily runs now, so I'm not completely hopeless.

Supply-chain attack on business phone provider 3CX could impact thousands of companies Hackers may have compromised the networks of thousands of businesses due to a supply-chain attack on the enterprise phone company 3CX, which confirmed on Thursday its desktop app had been bundled with malware. 3CX provides office phone systems to more than 12 million daily users at over 600,000 companies, as it claims on its website, including Mercedes-Benz, Coca-Cola, American Express and the United Kingdom's National Health Service. The company’s chief information security officer, Pierre Jourdan, said the intrusion was the work of highly skilled hackers, stating, “this appears to have been a targeted attack from an Advanced Persistent Threat, perhaps even state sponsored.” (The Record)
Open letter calls for AI “pause” Over 1,000 people signed an open letter calling on “all AI labs to immediately pause for at least 6 months the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4.” Signees include Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, Stability AI founder and CEO Emad Mostaque, and Tristan Harris of the Center for Humane Technology, as well as some engineers from Google and Meta. The letter argues a “level of planning and management” isn’t happening, with the industry instead “locked in an out-of-control race” to develop ever-more powerful models. No one from OpenAI or Anthropic signed the letter. (TechCrunch)
17% of security leaders consider cybersecurity team fully-staffed Security leaders' perception of their own cyber resilience was analyzed in a recent study by Immersive Labs. Despite high confidence in overall resilience, the study found that teams are insufficiently prepared for threats, as 82% agree they could have mitigated some to all of the damage of their most significant cyber incident in the last year if they were better prepared, and more than 80% don't think, or are unsure, their teams have the capabilities to respond to future attacks. Seventeen percent of respondents consider their cybersecurity team to be fully-staffed and almost half of respondents admit they aren’t able to measure cyber capabilities, further eroding confidence in the organization’s preparedness. Inaudible ultrasound attack can stealthily control your phone, smart speaker American university researchers have developed a novel attack called “Near-Ultrasound Inaudible Trojan” (NUIT) that can launch silent attacks against devices powered by voice assistants, like smartphones, smart speakers, and other IoTs. Professor Guenevere Chen of the University of Texas in San Antonio (UTSA), her doctoral student Qi Xia, and professor Shouhuai Xu of the University of Colorado (UCCS) demonstrated NUIT attacks against modern voice assistants found inside millions of devices, including Apple’s Siri, Google’s Assistant, Microsoft’s Cortana, and Amazon’s Alexa, showing the ability to send malicious commands to those devices. The main principle that makes NUIT effective and dangerous is that microphones in smart devices can respond to near-ultrasound waves that the human ear cannot, thus performing the attack with minimal risk of exposure while still using conventional speaker technology. Panera Bread will use palm-scanning technology for its loyalty program Panera Bread is rolling out palm scanners that will link customers’ handprints to their loyalty accounts — a move the company paints as convenient but that privacy advocates have decried. The biometric-gathering technology, developed by Amazon, will hit stores in the next few months, Panera said on Wednesday. The gadgets will help suggest menu items based on customers’ order histories and allow employees to greet customers by their names and share customers’ available rewards, the company said. Panera Bread CEO Niren Chaudhary described the move as a “frictionless, personalized, and convenient” evolution of Panera’s loyalty program, which boasts 52 million members. However, digital rights activists worry that information could be tapped by federal agencies or accessed by hackers. (CBS News)
Flaw found in WiFi protocol According to a technical paper published by researchers at Northeastern University, the IEEE 802.11 protocol contains a fundamental security flaw, opening the door to attackers tricking access points to leaking network frames in plaintext. This exploits a behavior in access points when they enter a power saving mode, where they queue frames to send on wakeup. Attackers can spoof a device on the network to send a power-saving frame to an AP, forcing it to start queuing frames, which can then be transmitted back to the device on a forced wakeup. With this data in a shifted authentication context, the attackers can inject data into the TCP connection. Cisco acknowledged the flaw but said any data obtained “would be of minimal value in a securely configured network.” (Bleeping Computer)
Debt servicing giant exposes financial data The firm NCB Management Services sent out breach notification letters, disclosing a cyberattack it detected on February 4th. According to documents filed with Maine’s Attorney General, the attack exposed personal data on just under 495,000 people. This included names, addresses, phone numbers, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, and routing numbers. The company claims it “obtained assurances that the third party no longer has any of the information on its systems,” indicating it paid a ransom. This appeared to target closed credit cards originating with Bank of America. Bank of America will provide victims with two years of identity theft protection. (The Record)
A million pen tests show companies’ security postures are getting worse On Tuesday, analysis from 1 million pen tests revealed that data-exfiltration risk increased to an average score of 44 out of 100 in 2022, from an average risk score of 30 the prior year. This from a report from Cymulate, who said one key reason for the increased risk is attackers improving tactics to circumvent network and group policies. Additionally, the company found issues with patching hygiene, with four of the top-10 CVEs identified in customer environments being more than two years old. On a positive note, companies have improved malware detection across major platforms with many attacks being blocked by Web gateways. (Dark Reading)
Over 70% of employees keep work passwords on personal devices Roughly four out of five employees store sensitive work passwords on their personal phones, and 66% use their personal texting apps for work. This information comes from SlashNext’s latest mobile bring your own device (BYOD) security report, which also suggests 95% of security leaders are increasingly concerned about phishing attacks via private messaging apps. SlashNext CEO Patrick Harr suggests this is because threat actors know there are fewer security controls on personal mobile devices than on corporate ones. The report also highlights a mirrored trend with a majority (89%) of IT and security leaders acknowledging legal concerns about having access to employees’ private data. (InfoSecurity Magazine)
