2023.03.30 17:15 lear64 git branching strategy for DE

Does anyone have an example of a (git) branching strategy that they believe acts as a model for others to follow. This problem isn't really a DE specific issue, just happens to be related to DE tools in our case.
Our background as an Azure Data Lakehouse shop:
Core Components:
When Developers are building a change:
  1. new branch off `main` (either feature/... or fix/....)
  2. Change is implemented, run directly in that branch during development.
  3. Once completed, a PR is submitted to merge this branch back into `main`
    1. Approval is required from another team member (to force a second reviewer)
  4. `main` commit triggers to dev environment
  5. Once the change is verified, a PR is submitted to `release` to trigger a build into QA (for User Testing/evaluation)
  6. Once the team is ready for the changes to go to prod, an approval is made on the Pipeline.
Key challenge here is that multiple changes can be made into release before getting deployed to Production, so managing knowing what is getting changed can get out of control.
I suspect the crux of the issue is that we essentially have a linear deployment path with a funnel on release. Additionally, while we manage ADF changes and DBX changes separately, each is stored in its own monolithic repo (1 repo for all pipelines, and 1 repo for all notebooks in DBX).

2023.03.30 17:14 StepwiseUndrape574 Why Rockstar Is Banning Anyone From Talking About GTA 6 On Twitch

In February, Rockstar confirmed that development of Grand Theft Auto VI is well underway. In July, the TakeTwo subsidiary publicized that it would no longer work on Red Dead Redemption 2 or its online offering to focus on the development of the next title in the mega-popular GTA series. Despite this, talking about the next installment in the 25-year-old franchise is discouraged, at least on the official Twitch channel of Rockstar Games. This follows behavior the company started exhibiting on YouTube as well.
When users attempt to type GTA VI or GTA 6, they are greeted with the message that appears when a banned word or filter is applied on Twitch channels – "Your message wasn't posted due to conflicts with the channel's moderation settings." Publishers hushing people on their own platforms about titles is nothing new. Wild speculation can often draw attention to things the developers may not wish to reveal or may not have information about yet.
twitch chat no gta vi Screen Capture of Rockstar Twitch Chat Censoring GTA VI
Grand Theft Auto VI is not expected to be available until sometime in 2024. The belief right now is that Rockstar wants to focus marketing on the Grand Theft Auto Online portion of their business. GTA Online has shown a regular player base and persistent earnings for the company. There's potential for a loss of funds if people's focus is shifted away from what is currently earning them money.
There is very little known about the new title. Some people have ventured guesses that we may see a return to Vice City, the fictional city based on southern Florida cities in the United States. As of right now, the only information anyone has from Rockstar for sure is that it is being worked on. Anything else is most likely speculation.
gta cuban plane Screenshot of Cuban Airplane from Grand Theft Auto V
There are also concerns that Rockstar employees are not necessarily staying on very long right now. This follows some trends that have been occurring recently in the game development world. Poor worker treatment at Activision-Blizzard led to employees at one of its subsidiaries forming a union. Hopefully things remain stable enough at Rockstar and TakeTwo for GTA VI to arrive on time, though.

2023.03.30 17:13 Putrid_Transition560 Should I take a free MakerBot Replicator+? It's from a closed down school

Ok, so before I get the "it's free, that's a dumb question" I know, total first world problem and why would I say no to free. Also, its not a exactly purchase advice question so im not sure it fits in the mega thread. I don't live in a big space and I'm worried this "free" printer will become a several hundred dollar project and a huge paperweight. It looks to be in decent shape, but I don't know how old it is and from past experience, used school equipment tends to be pretty abused. On top of that, I've read mixed reviews about the printer to begin with, but I am not sure how much that has to do with the price tag. I already have two Neptune printers which are plenty for my needs, so I'm not in the market for another printer, but on the other hand, it is free. Is it worth the potential project or should I pass? Any one with a potentially 6 year old MakerBot still like theirs?

2023.03.30 17:12 PennyworthInvesting Copper vs Oil: The Great Disconnect

Copper vs Oil: The Great Disconnect
Copper is an important industrial metal and remains the key transitional metal in our view for the ongoing renewable revolution.
Historically, copper also has an almost unbeaten record for sniffing out economic strength and weakness before many other commodities. Fondly called Dr. Copper for this very reason, the copper industry is an essential part of the global economy and demand is closely tied to overall economic growth.
According to the Copper Alliance (a leading advocate for the copper industry), one tonne of copper is enough to build 40 cars, power 100,000 mobile phones, drive operations in 400 computers and bring electricity to 30 homes.
Historically, there has been a strong correlation between copper and oil, as both are affected by the same economic factors and market conditions. Energy costs make up a significant portion of the costs of copper extraction, smelting and refining, so there is a material basis for copper and oil prices to fluctuate in unison.
Oil is also a critical power source for economic activity, and quickly reflects falling or rising economic output. Oil accounts for about 3% of GDP and is one of the world’s most important commodities. Petroleum is essential to the manufacture of innumerable products from plastics and chemicals to clothing, and constitutes billions of dollars of transactions, even before considering its use as a fuel for transportation.
For a short video summary of this report, look here: https://youtu.be/6zX6yTk6jYU
A decline or expansion of the world economy almost always results in an increase or decline of oil and copper prices. Forecasts of the respective prices and consumption of these two commodities, are generally set and revised with projections of global economic growth. Case in point, economists will often perceive a rise in oil prices as news of inflationary or recessionary tailwinds.
https://preview.redd.it/f0gh2sse4wqa1.png?width=867&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f7a34688b06f6224c6679c8cf477f6910dfc9e7
However, we’ve noticed something strange happening lately. We are seeing a decoupling of copper and oil prices, with copper prices rising dramatically year to date while oil prices are struggling amid global inflationary concerns and a worldwide banking crisis.
Oil vs. Copper Price (Year to Date %)
So why is copper holding up so much better than oil, when forecasters expect slowing economic growth, tightening lending standards and a potential recession within the next 12 months?
We think the answer all comes down to inventories…

Oil: A Story of Geopolitics & Supply
The International Energy Agency (IEA) states that in Q4 2022, supply outpaced demand by over 1 mb/d, despite a cut in OPEC+ production targets and disruptions to US supplies (due to winter storms).
Also, gains in energy efficiencies and soaring sales of electrical vehicles, will curb global 2023 demand growth by close to 900 kb/d in 2023. The market participation of Russia and China remains unpredictable, as sanctions have prompted Russia to seek new customers (at arguably reduced prices) for their oil, and the nature and speed of China’s reopening is still uncertain.
US Central bank policy has overshadowed China’s reopening, with the two week old banking crisis taking crude oil futures down by about $11/bbl, or 13% since March 3rd.
The US oil benchmark, Western Texas Intermediate (WTI) continues to slump as well as US crude stockpiles build. Overall, optimism is fading from the market.

Copper: The Uncrowned King of Commodities
Like Rodin’s the Thinker, copper sits above the rest in contemplation of the current tepid macroeconomic backdrop.
Copper is the best performer this year out of the industrial metals, rising more than 7% year-to-date, while other comparable metals have fallen in an environment of slowing economic growth expectations.
There is evidence that current prices aren’t reflecting expected supply deficits, which we’ll discuss below.

Very Low Inventory Driving Current Price Strength
We think the most likely explanation for Copper’s strength vs oil comes down to copper’s very low global inventory levels. As we’ve covered in previous articles, global inventories for copper and other industrial metals held at exchange monitored warehouses (i.e. LME & SHFE) are at record lows.
The situation looks like its gotten worse amidst all the economic worries not better, with investment Bank Goldman Sachs forecasting that the world could run out of visible copper inventories by Q3 this year, if current demand trends continue.
The re-opening of China, a major consumer of copper is a major contributor to rising copper demand expectations this year. Chinese demand rose strongly in February, the latest month of data. Currently, copper inventories are at the lowest seasonal level since 2008.
According to GS, Chinese copper demand rose 13% in February year-over-year; and they believe that the price could hit $10,500 a tonne as the Asian nation increases their post lunar new year industrial activity.
Copper Global Visible Inventories
One of the major factors affecting the strong copper price is the increasing demand for green technologies, more specifically batteries. McKinsey & Co. has identified that electrification is projected to increase annual copper demand to 36.6 million metric tons by 2031, and only rapid new mine development and the adoption of copper mitigating technologies, could potentially fill the looming copper supply gap.

Shortfalls, Slowdowns & Supply Gaps driving an Uncertain Future
A 2022 S&P Global study found that significant copper shortfalls will begin in 2025, as a result of increased demand from the energy transition and limited new copper supply. Their rocky road scenario assumes that if current conditions continue, there will be a 10 million metric ton shortfall by 2035. Even in their high ambition scenario, which assumes significant strides in technologies for extraction and recycling techniques, a shortfall will continue until 2035.
Forecast Copper Supply & Demand Balance
Unfortunately, the mining industry will not be able to meet this supply gap from new production without a frankly unrealistic increase in drilling capital expenditures.
Many of the world’s largest copper mines are facing dwindling reserves, depleted ore-grades and are slowing production due to capital-intensive major projects being moved underground in a bid to increase access to more ore.
Looking for new deposits (called greenfield exploration), is very costly and imposes inherit risks and difficulties. Not to mention, finding copper and putting it on production takes a long time.
The past decade has seen greenfield exploration slow dramatically, as the excess supply from 2006-2012 was worked down.
S&P Global estimates that new discoveries averaged 50Mt annually from 1990 to 2010. Moving to the present, discoveries have fallen by 80% to only 8Mt / year.
Current estimates expect a cumulative supply gap of 50Mt or over two years of global demand, between 2022 and 2030.
Mining project approval rates have stalled. During the first half of 2022, the volume of committed projects totaled just 260,000 tonnes of production per year.
Mining Project Approvals by Year (kt copper)
Three Ways to Invest in a Copper Shortage
Given the significant inventory shortages we have identified above, copper prices are poised to hold up better than other commodities if we are going into a period of economic weakness.
A resumption of quantitative easing by Central Banks or falling interest rates, could easily push copper prices to new highs under the current supply shortages.
We prefer three different ways to invest in these trends, bucketed by diversification and risk.
On the lower risk end of the spectrum is the Global X Copper Miners ETF (Ticker: COPX). The ETF is well diversified with 51 positions, and the top 10 stocks taking up a little over half of portfolio.
The diversification of COPX helps you avoid taking on company risk, the risk that one company does something stupid. COPX provides exposure to the price of copper with the potential for better returns than physical copper given the operating leverage copper miners have to the underlying commodity.
Top 25 Holdings of the COPX Copper ETF
Year-to-date copper prices are outperforming the copper miners 3.4%, though in early February the copper miners were up 18%, 10% more than physical copper.
YTD Performance of Copper vs COPX ETF
Our second preferred way to invest in copper upside is to own a high-quality large miner like Southern Copper (Ticker: SCCO). Southern Copper has a market value of $55bn and generates almost 80% of revenue from copper.
Southern Copper Footprint
Yes, Southern Copper is more expensive than large mining peers like BHP or Freeport-McMoRan, but it has outperformed them significantly this year due to its heavy copper weighting. Exactly the exposure and outcome an investor would want.
Forecast EV/EBITDA in 2023
YTD Performance
Our final investment pick to take advantage of the positive copper outlook is a small cap miner, with a unique value proposition. Investing in small caps does come with higher operational risks, but this is balanced by far higher return potential as smaller miners are often mispriced, especially at the beginning of a sustained period of stable to rising commodity prices, like we may be in today.
The company we’ve chosen has a truly unique operational footprint as it produces copper but does not need a mine to do so. The company Amerigo Resources (Ticker: ARG, ARREF), which we’ve written about before on Capital10x, provides significant leverage to copper prices without exposing investors to uncertainties that come from operating a complex copper mine.
Amerigo receives waste fluid (tailings) from El Teniente, one of the largest copper mines in the world. The company extracts the remaining Copper and Molybdenum from the waste stream, selling it back to the mine at the current global copper price.
https://preview.redd.it/km165rqb6wqa1.png?width=705&format=png&auto=webp&s=5ed4b9bd1ffdf944ad1e0be228ab6f31de71f960
Another risk mitigator with Amerigo is the company’s very low leverage. Cash exceeds debt which gives the company flexibility should copper prices decline for a period, if the world does go into a shallow recession.
Amerigo is trading on a trailing EV/EBITDA of 5.3x with Copper at $4.11/lb. The last time the stock traded at 5.3x EV/EBITDA copper was at $3.00/lb.
Amerigo EV/EBITDA multiple vs Copper Price
This tells us there is significant upside at current copper prices, especially seeing as EBITDA is expected to be $36 million at $3.60/lb copper which is in line with EBITDA in 2018, when the stock was at a similar multiple.
Bottom Line: Amerigo is pricing in $3.60/lb copper when prices are trading at $4.00/lb or 10% higher.

Commodity Prices Rarely Lie
Whenever we notice two economically sensitive commodities like oil and copper diverging in price, we take notice.
After looking at the fundamentals of each, it became clear there are huge differences that likely explain the divergence.
Oil investment may be low historically, but we can see demand weakening in real time through rising inventory levels in the US and elsewhere.
Copper in contrast has an acute supply shortage. The supply situation is so critical that even as global growth and demand are weakening, prices have been rising, telling us supply just isn’t there.
Copper has the superior short term and long term demand trends and continues to be our preferred commodity investment this decade, regardless of the chances we see of a global recession in the near future.

2023.03.30 17:11 spliiff Mom (41) had a bad stroke and things are crazy/worrisome.

March 4, 2023, my 11 y/o sister calls me saying "somethings wrong with mom, we're calling the ambulance. She's laying on the patio and she's dizzy and can't feel her arm. I rush over there, ambulance are leaving and I jump out my car crying asking what happened. Luckily, my little sis found her in time, otherwise she wouldn't have made it
It was a hemorrhagic stroke, bleeding deep in her brain and her left side is paralyzed. It's been almost 3 weeks since, she's been in rehab for 1 week so far. She didn't have surgery, so what theyve been doing controlling her BP and letting the blood reabsorb. She has HBP, and has been extremely stressed and going crazy due to relationship problems with my dad (I don't blame her). She's always been the type of person to avoid taking medication as much as possible, but after this that's definitely gonna change.
It's so crazy and sad seeing her change traumatically all from stress. The condition she's in is like seeing someone who has brain damage from drugs or someone who ODed. I just can't believe this happened from stress, it truly can kill you.
Since she's been in the rehab unit, there's been multiple things that happened that's making me think they're neglecting her in there. The last time i was visiting, she kept swinging her right leg not stop towards the left side (she's almost constantly doing this). When pressing the button to call the nurse to have her readjusted, it took them 15-20 minutes to come each time. Keep in mind, everytime I've visited her in the rehab unit, there's only 1 Doctor around the whole unit, and I hardly see her nurse in there with her, and never show up until we call them. Due to her leg swinging, they called me saying they found her on the floor. They didn't seem concerned when they told me that. They just told me that "she's okay tho, she said she's not in pain or anything." But how could they let thay happen? How long was she on the floor for? Another thing is that when my aunt visited her, there was also no nurse around her whole visit until the end. She didn't have a diaper or catheter in, her privates were just OUT, no protection. Anytime anyone has visited her in the rehab unit, theres hardly ever a nurse in there with her, or even around. I'm so worried they're neglecting her bc of these reasons and it makes me think it's because of our insurance (basically the "poor" ppl kind).
Though she's making progress since she's been there, it's sad seeing her not herself/lack of expression. Not always, but when we ask her questions to test her memory, for example me and my siblings names and ages, reading words on a shirt, bringing up certain memories, she'll remember for the most part and recite things correctly. But she'll also say random phrases and repeat things over and over that don't make sense or aren't related. The most words she'll say tho is "yeah, no, yes, I love you, I miss you" stuff like that. It's not much, but she's definitely talking most days which is good. We'll play music for her too sometimes to hopefully trigger some memories and good feelings towards herself and her personality. She's also no longer on a feeding tube, she basically eats thick water and apple sauce and stuff. It made me so happy when I made her laugh, HARD. I've hardly gotten a chuckle out of her, but there's this time where she was looking at my shirt and said "diabetes?" And her whole right side of her face lit us and was giggling so much for like a whole minute. I never seen her face so expressive since her stroke. Her right eye was squinting so hard and her right side was smiling so hard. Made me so happy. It didn't say diabetes, but it had an Ice cream on it and "paletas" in cursive, so I kinda could see why she would think that. It's good to feel that her humor is still there somewhere.
Life's been hard since, bc we have a serverly autistic 6 y/o brother who we've been having to care for. (I'm 19, my older brothers 21, my sister 22). Also having to get his special care by ourselves. It was a process that was started n never finished by my parents. On top of that, my moms been a hoarder our whole life. Bc of her stroke and now disabled, were left to deal with clearing out the house and dumping so much stuff and paying alot, just to make our home in a good/ safe condition for not only my disabled brother but now my mom. We probably would've never been able to resolve my moms hoarding if it wasn't for this. I just hope she doesn't get mad/sad when we do bring her home eventually and so much stuff will be gone. But we have to do it for her own good and ours too.
Since her and my dad got off on bad terms prior to this, me and my siblings are left to take care of her and make it work. All this responsibility was dropped on us bc of her stroke. When I seen her the day it happened, she said she doesn't want to see my dad or nothing to do with him. Not saying he caused it, but she's been going crazy due to his drinking causing her extreme stress and HBP. Since her stroke, my dads been taking advantage of me and my siblings and goes out for drinks every night after work and comes home late. We spend more time taking care of the kids than him. I understand my dad works hard and is also stressed, but I wish he would take my moms stroke as a wake up call to stop doing that and be here for his kids (not necessarily us older kids but the younger kids).
Sorry this is long, but if anyone can give me advice and maybe some answers about my worries. Share your experiences and tell me what you think about mine based off what you know. This is the first time I've ever experienced something like this with someone so close in my family so this is all a learning process for us. I've been reading about strokes constantly on here and finally got the courage to write about my situation. Anything helps. God bless you all

2023.03.30 17:11 patentlywaiting So, why aren’t you a primary again?

It’s always the big question I get when I talk to SPEs from other art units. But I also noticing that more of our veteran primaries are retiring and as an experienced junior it worries me.
So I wanted to share why I am not a primary yet and start the conversation, knowing that management probably reads this and is wondering the same damn thing. Also I couldn’t get to the PEER group so here goes.
1) The program is too damn hard.
To be honest, I have years upon years of office actions you can look at and see my quality of work- several accolades and a near perfect BOA record. I don’t want to have to be evaluated on some kind of arbitrary time frame. A year and a half of me being angry at my family because of this stress is not worth it. Consider evaluating my work now- and tell me if I qualify for partial sig (automatically, because auto counting was a thing!) and then put me on a program for full sig instead if I choose to.
2) GS-14 workload is too much.
I really don’t want to have to drop down to part time just to be fully successful. Right now, I work a little OT and I’m happy. It makes life easier and I do feel like I have more control over my life.
But to be fair- the PAP makes quality so much more work with the scope of the art that we have to deal with as a result of tech improvement (controllers and AI). Not to mention issues with CPC and issues with poor docketing. We need more regular new cases for me to even consider this.
  1. Pay is not commensurate with experience and the lack of comp time earning is also not helping.
Considering that I am looking at patent agent jobs in the 200-300k range in my art, at 15k bump is not worth it. Moreover, I can’t work comp time?
If you can’t pay me extra but I end up working extra: consider allowing us to earn extra comp time instead. There is a lot of talk about work life balance but no one has actually evaluated the fact that this work never ends. So the only kind of balance is being able to take full weeks off for docket management pauses and mental health breaks. During this time, as a primary I would still love to review other peoples cases.
But comp time. Why do we have to put limits on how much we earn at a GS-14 when there is already a cap on how much we can keep?
  1. I really personally like the safety net of people reviewing my cases or having a person to chat with about tricky cases.
Even with my experience: I might just lack confidence. I think if directors looked at examiners that should be primaries and give them a heads up to just become them at the GS-13 level, it shouldn’t be that hard.
Finally: I think we should have primaries that just sign and review cases. The pressure of production with this job is unhealthy in the long run. But maybe a detail for each art unit to do just reviewing would be good and would encourage people to become spes in the end.
Hope I’m not the only one in this boat but also that the office seriously considers this or that people give feedback on how realistic/unrealistic this is.

Hello all, we are the 777th Siege Korps of Krieg, a new Death Korps of Krieg unit! We formed this place after being unable to find a unit we really vibed with for quite a while so instead of continuing the search we decided to found our own unit. Our hope is to be a relatively serious unit with a few jokes here and there allowed, this doesn't mean "yes sir no sir" Though it does mean that we are going to be a tad stricter about things. To explain in straight terms, We are fine with you making jokes with your friends here though don't go overboard and ruin other people's fun.
https://preview.redd.it/gv3xsetd6wqa1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=49bb96ca61df3c3b0f12d1b2af9d2a8f1fcf8a0c
Our Tactics: In true Krieg fashion our tactics consist mostly of multiple rifle teams besieging various objectives in quick succession, The only moments we aren't either raiding compounds or getting shot by enemy tanks are when we are driving to the next place to raid (though sometimes we get shot by tanks in this part as well) All in all we do our best to keep on the move and keep the action happening right near you no matter what squad you happen to be in, We strongly prioritize fun so even though we are serious at the end of the day we do our best to make sure you get to shoot a bunch of stuff.

Our Schedule: Our operations are currently set every Saturday at 2pm EST (7pm GMT) so that our friends across the pond have a chance at joining. We also hold side operations throughout the rest of the week as well. Our hopes are that as we grow we can find other individuals interested in zeusing so that not only our main zeus can play an op once and a while but also so that we could possibly hold multiple main ops a week.
When Joining: When you join the unit basically you just need to say in the channel you can type in if you are a unit rep or wanting to join, At that point you will have a few questions sent to you that are just basics for you to answer, Here they are so you can answer them when you first join if you wish.
  1. Where did you hear about us?
  2. What is your age?
  3. Are you new to Arma?

2023.03.30 17:07 Piscenian 160 Days and $15,000 as a Home and Office Cleaner - Part 2

This is a continuation of my previous post located here: 90 Days and $5000 as a Home and Office Cleaner - Part 1, and please understand, I'm no writer, my post will probably never be as organized as some of the other beautiful ones I see posted here.
My wife and I decided to start a business 167 days ago. Our total sales from this venture are at $15,000.00*(rounded) Here is our journey so far.

Some quick stats

General Statement So we are in it now, we feel a great deal more comfortable with the company and a hell of a lot more worried now but things are good. You're probably wondering why is he saying he is worried. Well, I’ll tell you, Taxes. Taxes absolutely must be considered very early on in this venture, even if your “plan” is to avoid paying taxes. We however lucky we are, had a bit of foresight and within a few weeks of starting the company, started making plans to make sure all of our tax responsibilities were covered by setting some money aside…… then around 100 days later (sadly I know) put those bigger plans into motion and hired a CPA.
I’ll keep this brief and move on to another topic in just a minute. Hire a CPA, and heed his/her advice. Make the business legal, and when taxes roll around, file as an S-Corp.

What is working for us?
Alright, so what's changed in the past 70 days? Lots, but at the same time, not so much.

A Better Website
We finally upgraded to www.PageSmack.com - my web traffic has DRAMATICALLY increased and I think my website looks beautiful, no complaints here, the price is extremely fair and the service works wonderfully.

Advertisement Creation
We still use www.Edit.org, although now I have a paid subscription to it, I create my ad’s here.

Google comes in handy
We are still using my google spreadsheets for metric tracking, jobs, revenue, taxes, etc…..It’s probably overkill but I enjoy digging through the data.
I’ve also used google suite to build out some flyers/printables/task lists for my wife when she goes out on a job.

Some company shirts
We have a few company-branded T-shirts now, a few revisions worth of business cards, and a few sets of supplies.

We are landing contracts!
Things have been going pretty well, We now officially have 2 landed contracts accounting for roughly $1500 of our monthly revenue across 5-6 jobs a month. We are negotiating a 3rd contract for an additional $1500 per month. Around 8-10 monthly recurring cleanings with homeowners, and we have been fired by 2 clients, both were past recurring cleanings, I will elaborate a little more later on.

Continued improvement The frenzied ‘hunger’ i spoke of in part 1 is a little less now but I believe this is due to some success. We no longer have to work as hard to keep the calendar full and it's great. But with that said, I do notice a drop in bookings when I decide to slack up a bit on my advertising.

Advertising
Speaking of advertising let's jump into what's working for us.

Milestones

As always I am very open to private discussions about my company and even phone calls. But please understand I am very new to owning a business, and this is our first ever attempt at anything like this….things just seem to be working out for us. We are working VERY hard to keep things moving in the right direction, I'm spending a lot of my free time trying to grow this business, mornings, evenings, and in between. I’m leaning on all of the resources I have access to, Family, Friends, ChatGPT, a CPA, and anyone with advice.
I’m also very interested in speaking with people much more experienced than me. I know we have a long way to go, and a lot of changes will need to be made in order to maintain a good legal and tax-paying standing, Unfortunately, funds are required, and my knowledge is lacking in some of these areas. My goal is to be completely on the up and up by the end of the year or when taxes are due.
I'll be attempting to clean this up after i post.

2023.03.30 17:06 kate_herrera Injectables first time...too expensive?

Late 30s looking to smooth away forehead wrinkles. It’s my first time trying cosmetic botox. I had medical done for nearly a decade with very spotty results which is why I'm being (overly) cautious about the provider. I'm nervous because I've read about nerve damage to brow muscles, etc. Want to go to an NP or higher who does it all day every day.
I did a lot of reading online and found a place that has only 5 star reviews across social and Google along with a descriptive website with bios and all treatment options. Made an appointment for 2 “areas” (apparently they don't charge by units?) which is $550, and was told it's $695 for 3 areas. That's expensive, but what struck me was how surprised the receptionist responded when I asked about consultation/question time. She said no, I'd be charged if I didn't go through with it, but reluctantly said the NP would call me. Instead I received a text a few hrs later giving one word answers or very clipped responses that didn't address my concerns. I'm having second thoughts. For that price -- not to mention making your customers comfortable/loyal -- I feel I should at least get 15 mins of discussion up front. It's important that I'm an educated consumer after my previous bad experiences. Now I'm wondering why they ONLY have 5 star reviews and no Yelp listing at all. No one has ever complained about something minor like an extra wait time or bad music in the lobby?
Are my expectations unrealistic and how do I go about finding another place that won't completely rip me off? Im in a very expensive city and not comfortable doing any sort of discounts for this kind of work. I don't mind paying for quality, but the communication so far doesn't instill confidence. Please help!

2023.03.30 17:04 RoboCritter Should I tell my alcoholic father he's the reason I suffered through CSA?

My divorced alcoholic father had me on weekends while growing up. I was safe and fed and taken care of by a responsible mom and stepdad during the week but it was all fun and games at dad's shitty apartment on weekends. Empty fridge, trash everywhere, no rules, cockroaches run across my face in my sleeping back at night, his shady friends coming and going at all hours, him always drunk. He'd drink at least a handle of tequila every weekend. Despite all of that, we did a lot of fun things and had a lot of hobbies: RC cars, model rockets, video games, laser tag, paintball, shooting guns in the desert, kites, bike riding; but it was so scatter brained and chaotic, each hobby was so short lived and looking back it was a terrible environment despite the happy activities. On 2 occasions I watched him put a pistol to his head as a drunken joke or a sad threat.
He demanded that my mom return his child support money and would have me hand it back to him on weekends. Because of this my mom felt the need to work a job along side my stepfather (who is a really good dude). So she had to leave me at a babysitter after school. Well I was sexually abused at the babysitter several times by an older kid. The babysitter eventually seen it happening and told the kid's parents but did not tell mine. I guess she didn't want them to know about it? I was too young to know any better and didn't tell them either.
Anyway over the past 15 years my father has lost his job, become homeless, bounced around from all our family members and burned all bridges because he won't stop drinking and is completely insufferable while drunk. He refuses to get clean or go to meetings or get any kind of help. Eventually he was sent to me by other family members. I live in an apartment with a roommate a had a minimum wage job at the time so I didn't know what to do. He would constantly lie about drinking and would try to hide it so eventually I sent him back to his hometown and he wound up homeless for 6 years.
He eventually found his way back to my area and got housing but was kicked out for manufacturing weed wax. He eventually had some sort of manic break one night and was running around in public with a rifle BB gun claiming he was being stalked and people were out to get him. So he called me to move him and his shit out of that area. I picked him up and packed all his shit into my car and for hours I indulged his paranoia. We drove around and I let him point out people who he thought were watching him or wanted him dead. He kept pointing out people just walking down the street or pumping gas and never would admit he was wrong about being watched. I was driving him back to my place but had to stop for gas. He bought booze and got drunk and tried to hide it and kept rambling about us being followed. We got into it big time that night and I ended up throwing his shit out of the car and left him on the side of the road only for him to call me a couple days later and guilt me into picking him up again. He was used to the homeless lifestyle at this point and was stealing shit from stores as I tried to help him get a cell phone set up. I eventually sent him back to his parents as a last resort; they were old and retired and had already gotten rid of him once but at least they had a house with an extra room. He eventually got his own place through a housing system but is currently being threatened for smoking inside the unit. We've been keeping in touch through text and video calls but honestly he seems miserable and I'm burnt out on him and his drinking. It sounds heartless but I don't want to think of him as my dad anymore. I wish I could just cut ties and forget, but I can't. So we still argue and he'll throw insults my way if he's drunk. I've begun to realize the CSA may still be affecting me and I wonder if telling my father about it would help. It would crush him I'm sure, so it would be pretty selfish of me to do, I think. Just wondering if I should tell him about it or not, because he has no idea.
