2023.03.30 17:13 ROI_QQ Beginner, need advice on my next pair of headphones

Hello,
As the title says, I'm a beginner and I'm looking for advice on my next pair of hi-fi headphones. I'm currently using the HD 599. I have tried educating myself but I feel like the more I read, the less I actually know. I was looking at the the Sundara, DT 1990 Pro, Ananda, HD 600/660S/S2, Edition XS. Will I hear a huge difference coming from the HD 599? Reading got me worried about Hifiman reliability even though their products seem to bring great value for money.
I was also thinking about some in-ears and I've read that the Fiio FH7 are great but I can't find any comparisons with over-ear headphones. I was hoping someone could explain the differences in sound quality between in-ear and over-ear and other compromises if they exist.
Budget - Ideally under 600 EU650 USD (I'm located in Europe)
Source/Amp - Zen Dac V2. I was thinking of adding Zen Can. Would that be necessary? On the software side, I'm mainly playing youtube videos and Tidal hifi/master quality.
How the gear will be used - I don't travel so home listening. It's very noisy here so the more external noise they block, the better, but I'm not expecting ANC-level stuff. I wear headphones all day every day so the more comfy/breathable they are, the better.
Preferred tonal balance - No idea, but I need some bass and clear vocals.
Preferred music genre(s) - Nowadays I'm listening to a lot of electronic music (mainly old trance) as well as 70s/80s japanese pop (stuff like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qeZ4mtGyH0)
Past gear experience - Nothing notable other than the Sony WH-1000XM3 and HD 599 but even so, I know there's way better stuff out there. I like how comfy the HD 599 are but my ears get very warm and that's one of the main reasons why I was looking at in-ears. I really hated the XM3's full plastic construction because they started to creak a lot.
Thank you so much!

2023.03.30 17:13 investorgrade24 Relearning to love competition

Nothing is better in this sport than competing. Win or lose, there is no feeling quite like it. There aren’t too many other sports where you can go toe-to-toe with someone; just you vs. your opponent.
I (M, thirties) am playing in a week-long national tournament. Former ranked D1 player, but after a ~15 years hiatus from the game I just started hitting again 9 months ago. To be expected, timing and movement aren’t what they used to be. Regardless, I’ve found the childhood enjoyment in tennis that I lost in college, and it comes from competition, not practice.
Whatever of your level, please play in a tournament. Even if you feel like you’re not ready, or are afraid to lose, just do it.
It’s impossible to describe the experience of a tournament environment. The nervousness, pre-match jitters, shortness of breath are all impossible to replicate in your weekly hitting session. The nerves of having spectators, even if just a few. The focus that is required to calm yourself, trust your strokes, problem solve and play the person across the net is totally unique to tennis. At the end , the feeling of getting a win is euphoric.
For anyone on the fence, get out there and find a tournament. Be uncomfortable. Learn about yourself. Figure out what you’re made of. Lose until you learn how to win. It took me 15 years to remember how incredible this game can be.

2023.03.30 17:13 polyphanes Hermeticism, God, and the Gods

Ahoy everyone! I hope you're doing well.
When people read texts like the Corpus Hermeticum or Asclepius, what with all the talk of “God”, it’s not uncommon for them to think that Hermeticism is some kind of monotheistic spirituality, or some sort of "Christianity Lite". It’s a common-enough thing to wonder and ask about (especially as evidenced by a number of posts or comments on this subreddit), but a simple surface reading of part of the classical Hermetic texts doesn’t describe the whole situation accurately.
In truth, Hermeticism is a polytheistic form of mysticism, and the Hermetic texts are a product of a polytheistic people writing for a polytheistic audience; not only do the Hermetic texts explicitly state that multiple gods exist, but they outright encourage our worship of them. However, the focus in Hermeticism is not on the gods, but on God—and yet, perplexingly, God is not a god, and the reason why so much of the Hermetic texts talk about God is to try to make out exactly what God is if not a god. What Hermeticism is is fundamentally a form of monist mysticism, but it’s easy to conflate monism with monotheism.
To better explain these differences, I wrote a few posts on my blog exploring the nuances of how Hermeticism is fundamentally polytheistic, how that frames the monism of “the God”, and how that relates to otherwise exoteric polytheistic religion as well as how this is adapted to monotheistic traditions, as well as how we should better understand Hermeticism from the Hermetic texts.
I hope y'all enjoy the read, and I look forward to whatever comments you might have!

2023.03.30 17:13 Character-Umpire9374 No ring, no invite - "just a girlfriend"

I submitted this to a local advice column but figured I'd get more honest answers here, lol!
I've been with my boyfriend for just shy of 5 years and we live together. He comes from a big extended family (25-ish first cousins) who are great and know how to party! We're in our mid-20s and many of them have been in my life since I was in high school, before we were "officially" dating. This year, some of his older cousins have adopted a no-plus-one-unless-there's-a-ring policy. I kept quiet the first time, which would have been my 5th wedding with his family (although an exception was made for another ringless-girlfriend, which stung a bit). With another one looming, though, I'm preemptively feeling slighted. On the one hand, I totally get it - the cost of weddings, like everything, has skyrocketed and I'm not entitled to an invite! But I also find this rule hurtful to people who opt out of marriage long-term, whatever the reason. My boyfriend insists it's not his place to ask and attended/plans to attend without me, should a plus-one not be mentioned on the second pending invitation. He feels a wedding invitation you have to beg for isn't one you really want. Should I just bite my tongue until there's a ring on my own finger?
For clarity, I've heard through the grapevine that the second wedding will have the same policy - no invitations have been sent yet, so it's not technically confirmed, but likely. For further clarity, I have no clue why his cousin's girlfriend got an invite - she's not particularly close to the bride or groom. My boyfriend said it was clear she was the exception and it was almost awkward she was there. The bride's family hosted (not my boyfriend's aunt/uncle), so I totally understood why I wasn't invited given the 'policy', no hard feelings.
Any brides have any POV insight? Have you adopted a similar policy? Would you be horrified if someone asked? Or guests, would you ask?

2023.03.30 17:12 ThrowRARemoteJob My GF [28F] of 2 months told me [25M] that my career is more important than hers and is feeling disconnected from me for taking a remote job. I am thinking of ending things because I feel this is manipulative

TDLR: Girlfriend told me that I am selfish and inconsiderate for taking a remote job in lieu of a 7/7 travelling shift rotation job that isn't in my field. Accuses of me not considering her nursing schedule and doesn't listen to the fact that its remote. Says I would be pissed if she took a job in texas, but I say it's not the same.Try to find compromise with me working remotely from her town as my job is flexible but continues to say I did not consider her and I am inconsiderate. I don't take the job because of starting issues and refuses to talk about it and has a breakdown. Claiming I am not a reliable and consistent partner. I feel this is manipulation and straight up projections. I am going insane
I’ve been seeing my GF for two months; unfortunately, things have gotten quite turbulent. My girlfriend struggles with her mental health and has PTSD from a previous sexual assault. She also is struggling with health issues and is quite depressed. She works as a nurse, and things have been tough for her. Unfortunately, she has resorted to frequent lashing out at me for my lapse of attention and when I do not listen well. I do understand as a partner, I haven’t been a great listener, and I’ve tried to be more attentive to what she needed. However, she frequently belittled me and made hurtful remarks about my character flaws. Including claiming I have ADHD (she has it) and going as far as saying I do not respect her house or the fact she had to sacrifices 2 years for a downpayment and had a breakdown because I made a little mess in her room of my clothing. I had just put up a tree in her front yard and, most of the time, cook for her so that comment was hurtful and made me feel awful. I helped with house duties in the house because I know she was struggling and then I get attacked for making her feel incompetent when I was only trying to be caring. The worse part about this is that I tried comforting her after we couldn’t have sex and said it was okay and an hour later she’s breaking down about how I dismissed her for saying the word it’s okay. She then proceeds to cry that I am going to leave her and I expressed my frustration because I am not sure what I am doing right vs wrong and it seems everything I am trying to be a better partner is not right and is setting her off. Very emotionally draining!
So I work rotation which is not what I want or in my field but it’s good money for the time being. I am doing my masters right now and the 7/7 is not bad. So I got offered a position that was actually in my field and was remote. It meant I wouldn’t have to travel as much and would be closer to home instead of commuting. My GF lives 2hrs from my hometown, but I have a place there as it’s where I am currently studying. I told her I got an offer and I was going to take it. She then listed that I need to double-check the vacation time, benefits, etc and expressed her concern that she didn’t want me to take it thinking it’s not what I want. I said to her I would like to take it because it’s remote and it would offer me the ability to be closer to home instead of travelling. I didn’t sign the contract yet, but because I made the choose to take it, it started a fight. She claimed that my career was more important than hers and that I didn’t bother to check her work schedule or consider her in this decision. She continued with how I am not including her in my life and she does not feel connected to me anymore. I was quite upset by that comment because she’s been working for +7 years in her field and is more established. I am just about to start my career once my masters is done, but I do have internship experience. She claimed that she changed her work schedule from 3 rotations to 5 to accommodate mine, but the conversation we had agree was that I would see her when our schedules align. Despite my attempts to tell her that this was a good position, it was remote and wouldn’t affect my ability to spend time with her, she ultimately told me I was unconsidered and selfish while contradicting and saying that my career is important. I gave some resolutions as I would be willing to work in her town for a couple of days out of the week because of the flexibility, but nope! She was pissed off at me for taking a career in my best interest, and I ruined her schedule. Her work was ‘hard,’ and I was in-considered of her sacrifices. I explained I do not remember having that conversation and I never asked her for her to change her schedule nor did she ever tell me she was going to do this. Again I try explaining that a remote job would be best for my happiness because I was miserable working a labour position that wasn’t in my field and her response was ‘I don’t want to see anybody after my 12hour shift’. Pretty much no leeway for compromise. Eventually she agrees that our relationship is fresh and we’re just getting to know each other
Here is the real kicker: the employer decides, due to the economic downturn, that they cannot have me start for another 2 months. I would lose a lot of money because of this so I decide not to take it. I texted her explaining I wasn’t taking the job anymore and she was confused. I asked if we could speak and she refused to accuse me of ruining her day off with this news. I tried to tell her that I would like to explain so it would make more sense and she could have some clarity and would have a better understand. She goes off on text about how I am inconsiderate, lack communication skills and not consistent partner. Again I explain to her that I would like to speak about this and she refuses. I back off and give her space to have her day and say that we do not have to discuss this now. A mere hour later she’s begging to talk to me and saying she’s worried sick about everything. I felt angry and confused and I did shutdown because my buttons were pushed. Later on she calls me emotionally immature for shutting down after I explained to her my feelings that my buttons were pushed and that I wasn’t even given a chance to speak. She accuses me of stonewalling after she previous refused to speak to me and then begs for me to talk later. She then tells me she’s having doubts about my unreliability as a partner and consistency and she needs that because she does have any consistency in her life. I try to tell her my job again does not affect my ability to spent time with her, but she again is doubting me. The conversation is circular with a lot of blames direct at me and I told her I do not feel listen or validated to the fact that I felt that my patience was being tested and my buttons were pushed. She said how awful it was of me to say that because she would never hurt anyone and that was such an offensive thing to say. Basically guilts me into apologize for expressing my feeling and then continues to tell me we’re not compatible and she’s having doubts. I tell that maybe it’s best if we split if she does not think I am the right fit and if we cannot find a resolution to this, it’s best not to continue. She accuses me of giving her an ultimatum and it’s cruel that I could write off the relationship so easily. Again I explain to her that is not what I want and I am trying to make things work, but I do not see us coming to a resolution. We’ve taken a break from the conversation and then she texted me saying that she noticed my anxiety and is causing issues for the both of us.
I am honestly so sick of this and I am considering ending it! I feel this is gaslighting, manipulative, controlling and just fucking toxic. Over a remote job. Am I crazy for feeling this way?

2023.03.30 17:12 erdossy Custom color way switch housings

Custom color way switch housings
3 years ago a started down the path of custom mechanical keyboards. It lead me to learn many skills including CAD, 3d printing, machining and injection molding. After learning these skills I had an ambitious project to begin producing complete mx switch clones. My ambition quickly dwindled after realizing I wasn’t comfortable enough with my knowledge of business and finance to see my project through.
Today I am back with a new take on the same project, after filling my knowledge gap.
I would like to see how much interest there’s is for MX type switch components purchased unassembled with a choice of color for the top, bottom, and stems. This would be a great way to match the switches to your case and caps.
I have yet to find a reasonable priced manufacturer for the contact points so another switch would need to be utilized to complete each switch for now. Maybe it would be possible to adapt the design for Hall effect instead of a physical contact.
I plan to supply sprit springs with the components if the demand is there.
I had injection molds designed for higher tolerances and dimensionally stable polymers to hopefully provide a more consistent typing experience than the switches we are used to, although I have yet to test this as mold making is expensive.
Let’s add even more customizability to this hobby!
Ps. DM me for a link to those stickers.

2023.03.30 17:12 Groenboys [Mobile Apps] How a horde of Jeremy Renners shut down the official Jeremy Renner app

Jeremy Renner. The actor, the artist, the influencer, the celebrity sensation, the legend. From the outside, he is mostly known as Hawkeye from the Marvel MCU movies, but on the inside, he is Jeremy Renner.
Jokes aside, Jeremy Renner is quite a respected actor who is also really successful, getting tons of recognition and even getting multiple Academy Award nominations. It is why when he recently got into a snow plowing accident which left him in critical condition, many were concerned for him (recently he updated that he is now okay I am genuinely glad he is). But even after this awful injury, all that people can talk about is the thing that has been haunting Jeremy Renner’s career for the past half a decade: The Jeremy Renner app. Designed to be an app to get Jeremy Renner more in touch with his adoring fans, it only took a week to turn into a massive laughing stock that quickly shut down. So how did the Jeremy Renner app start and how did it end so quickly?
There is no escape from EscapeX
Before we can talk about the Jeremy app, we need to talk about the people who made it first: the company EscapeX. The company was founded in 2014 and the year after was able to raise over 18 million dollars in funding. They put that money to good use as they started racking up celebrity deals all over the world, most notably famous Bollywood stars. They would then make a special apps that were basically social media sites entirely dedicated to the start the apps were named after. They had quite some success, as they reported that in 2018 they got 5.5 million dollars in revenue.
While their foot was mostly in Asian markets, they also had some notable western names they had made official apps for, like
The inner workings of Jeremy Renner
The official Jeremy Renner app launched in March 2017. So how did this app work?
Well, when you opened the app and after an exclusive video of Jeremy Renner explaining what the app was about, you would find Instagram but everything revolved around Jeremy Renner. All of the pictures were posted by Jeremy Renner, the posts you could reply to were that of Jeremy Renner, and you could pay Jeremy Renner money- wait what? Yes, the Jeremy Renner app had in-app purchases were you could buy stars and use those stars to boost your comment under Jeremy Renner posts and when you got enough starts to boost your comment into the top 3 you may could get a reply from Jeremy Renner.
Yep, the app was that simple: Replying to Jeremy Renner until maybe at some point in your life Jeremy Renner would acknowledge you. If this app sounds pretty lazy, it gets even lazier when you realise the Jeremy Renner app was just literally Jeremy Renner’s Instagram page. Every post Jeremy Renner made on Instagram he also posted on the Jeremy Renner app. He even copied the Instagram captions which created some awkward posts when he used hashtags or @’s people in posts even though the Jeremy Renner app had no hashtag or @ function. The Jeremy Renner app did include some exclusive Jeremy Renner content.. but almost all of it was related to his music career. Some might then say that the Jeremy Renner app was used to promote his music but my middle name is Some so yeah Jeremy Renner definitely used the Jeremy Renner app the most to promote his music.
While the existence of this app was absurd and the inner working even more absurd, the app was quite a success and it got many fans religiously using the app. There was an actual community on the Jeremy Renner app, with memes, events and giveaways. There were dramas about censorship and contest rigging which are too big to go into now, but overall the app continued to work smoothly for two years… until August 2019.
The One-Two Punch
While it is hard to pin down where it all went wrong, but I have pinpointed the two things that one-two punched the Jeremy Renner app into chaos.
The first punch was this comedic tweet. While the tweet itself didn’t catch a lot of attention, it did caught the attention of the youtuber Danny Gonzallez, who a few days later made a collab with Drew Gooden exploring the Jeremy Renner app. As you can see, the video was quite popular, and it exposed a lot of people to the Jeremy Renner app.
The first punch got the manpower, but the second punch gave the tools. On August 20th 2019, Jeremy Renner posted a picture with the caption “Have a rockin weekend everyone!!! What’s the plan ??? “. Comedian Stevan Heck then posted a honest comment:
I will be looking at porno on my computer
While there was an expected backlash from loyal Jeremy Renner fans and an expected ban, Stefan Heck did realise something: everyone who commented on the post got notifications from his comment, and the notification of the Jeremy Renner app was constructed that it looked like Jeremy Renner sent that porno comment. After Stevan Heck was banned from the app, he came the next day back on an account called JeremyRennerPornoTruth where he posted [a quote from Ai Weiwei](rca1i5knz91eczwgbbc3.jpg (965×1379) (kinja-img.com)) before he got quickly banned again. He posted his experience on both his his twitter and on an article he wrote.
An update Stevan added to the article says everything what happened after:
Update (Sept. 4, 5:58 p.m. ET): Oh no.
All hell breaks loose
It started out calm, with a few accounts changing their names like “Jeremy Renner’s Swedish Dog” or “Italian Jeremy Renner”, but quickly it spiraled out of control. So many people were flooding in the Jeremy Renner app with accounts impersonating celebrities. From Steve Jobs to OJ Simpson to Jeffrey Epstein to Jar Jar Binks to, ofcourse, Jerermy Renner himself. These impersonation accounts started spamming comments, memes and everything you would expect a troll raid to do. It got to the point that the earnest users did not even know which Jeremy Renner account was the real Jeremy Renner. The moderators of the Jeremy Renner app tried to put out the flames but the Jeremy Renners were too strong. Nothing could stop the horde of Jeremy Renners.
And that point Jeremy Renner, the real one, had enough. On september 4th, Jeremy Renner made one final post on the Jeremy Renner app.
The app has jumped the shark. Literally. Due to clever individuals that were able to manipulate ways to impersonate me and others within the app I have asked ESCAPEX, the company the runs this app to shut it down immediately and refund anyone who has purchased any stars over the last 90 days.
The Jeremy Renner app shut down shortly after that.
The Aftermath
After the Jeremy Renner app shut down and the countless articles were made, Jeremy Renner moved on to focus posting on his regular social media. Other than that, he continued being Jeremy Renner. EscapeX on the other hand met a worse fate. After the Jeremy Renner app shut down, they pretty much fell off the face of earth. All of their celebrity apps shut down (yes, even the Backpack kid app), all their socials haven’t updated since 2019 and their website is defunct. It is safe to assume that they won’t be coming back.
To most, the Jeremy Renner app is nothing more than a punchline. What was meant to be a new way for huge celebrities to interact with their fans became a joke that couldn’t handle its own scrutiny. Some still defend the Jeremy Renner app and a few even have fond memories of it, but today it is a funny curiosity that once in a moon someone goes “Hey, remember when Jeremy Renner had an app?”
Also, this post contains 60 Jeremy Renners.

2023.03.30 17:12 PennyworthInvesting Copper vs Oil: The Great Disconnect

Copper vs Oil: The Great Disconnect
Copper is an important industrial metal and remains the key transitional metal in our view for the ongoing renewable revolution.
Historically, copper also has an almost unbeaten record for sniffing out economic strength and weakness before many other commodities. Fondly called Dr. Copper for this very reason, the copper industry is an essential part of the global economy and demand is closely tied to overall economic growth.
According to the Copper Alliance (a leading advocate for the copper industry), one tonne of copper is enough to build 40 cars, power 100,000 mobile phones, drive operations in 400 computers and bring electricity to 30 homes.
Historically, there has been a strong correlation between copper and oil, as both are affected by the same economic factors and market conditions. Energy costs make up a significant portion of the costs of copper extraction, smelting and refining, so there is a material basis for copper and oil prices to fluctuate in unison.
Oil is also a critical power source for economic activity, and quickly reflects falling or rising economic output. Oil accounts for about 3% of GDP and is one of the world’s most important commodities. Petroleum is essential to the manufacture of innumerable products from plastics and chemicals to clothing, and constitutes billions of dollars of transactions, even before considering its use as a fuel for transportation.
For a short video summary of this report, look here: https://youtu.be/6zX6yTk6jYU
A decline or expansion of the world economy almost always results in an increase or decline of oil and copper prices. Forecasts of the respective prices and consumption of these two commodities, are generally set and revised with projections of global economic growth. Case in point, economists will often perceive a rise in oil prices as news of inflationary or recessionary tailwinds.
https://preview.redd.it/f0gh2sse4wqa1.png?width=867&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f7a34688b06f6224c6679c8cf477f6910dfc9e7
However, we’ve noticed something strange happening lately. We are seeing a decoupling of copper and oil prices, with copper prices rising dramatically year to date while oil prices are struggling amid global inflationary concerns and a worldwide banking crisis.
Oil vs. Copper Price (Year to Date %)
So why is copper holding up so much better than oil, when forecasters expect slowing economic growth, tightening lending standards and a potential recession within the next 12 months?
We think the answer all comes down to inventories…

Oil: A Story of Geopolitics & Supply
The International Energy Agency (IEA) states that in Q4 2022, supply outpaced demand by over 1 mb/d, despite a cut in OPEC+ production targets and disruptions to US supplies (due to winter storms).
Also, gains in energy efficiencies and soaring sales of electrical vehicles, will curb global 2023 demand growth by close to 900 kb/d in 2023. The market participation of Russia and China remains unpredictable, as sanctions have prompted Russia to seek new customers (at arguably reduced prices) for their oil, and the nature and speed of China’s reopening is still uncertain.
US Central bank policy has overshadowed China’s reopening, with the two week old banking crisis taking crude oil futures down by about $11/bbl, or 13% since March 3rd.
The US oil benchmark, Western Texas Intermediate (WTI) continues to slump as well as US crude stockpiles build. Overall, optimism is fading from the market.

Copper: The Uncrowned King of Commodities
Like Rodin’s the Thinker, copper sits above the rest in contemplation of the current tepid macroeconomic backdrop.
Copper is the best performer this year out of the industrial metals, rising more than 7% year-to-date, while other comparable metals have fallen in an environment of slowing economic growth expectations.
There is evidence that current prices aren’t reflecting expected supply deficits, which we’ll discuss below.

Very Low Inventory Driving Current Price Strength
We think the most likely explanation for Copper’s strength vs oil comes down to copper’s very low global inventory levels. As we’ve covered in previous articles, global inventories for copper and other industrial metals held at exchange monitored warehouses (i.e. LME & SHFE) are at record lows.
The situation looks like its gotten worse amidst all the economic worries not better, with investment Bank Goldman Sachs forecasting that the world could run out of visible copper inventories by Q3 this year, if current demand trends continue.
The re-opening of China, a major consumer of copper is a major contributor to rising copper demand expectations this year. Chinese demand rose strongly in February, the latest month of data. Currently, copper inventories are at the lowest seasonal level since 2008.
According to GS, Chinese copper demand rose 13% in February year-over-year; and they believe that the price could hit $10,500 a tonne as the Asian nation increases their post lunar new year industrial activity.
Copper Global Visible Inventories
One of the major factors affecting the strong copper price is the increasing demand for green technologies, more specifically batteries. McKinsey & Co. has identified that electrification is projected to increase annual copper demand to 36.6 million metric tons by 2031, and only rapid new mine development and the adoption of copper mitigating technologies, could potentially fill the looming copper supply gap.

Shortfalls, Slowdowns & Supply Gaps driving an Uncertain Future
A 2022 S&P Global study found that significant copper shortfalls will begin in 2025, as a result of increased demand from the energy transition and limited new copper supply. Their rocky road scenario assumes that if current conditions continue, there will be a 10 million metric ton shortfall by 2035. Even in their high ambition scenario, which assumes significant strides in technologies for extraction and recycling techniques, a shortfall will continue until 2035.
Forecast Copper Supply & Demand Balance
Unfortunately, the mining industry will not be able to meet this supply gap from new production without a frankly unrealistic increase in drilling capital expenditures.
Many of the world’s largest copper mines are facing dwindling reserves, depleted ore-grades and are slowing production due to capital-intensive major projects being moved underground in a bid to increase access to more ore.
Looking for new deposits (called greenfield exploration), is very costly and imposes inherit risks and difficulties. Not to mention, finding copper and putting it on production takes a long time.
The past decade has seen greenfield exploration slow dramatically, as the excess supply from 2006-2012 was worked down.
S&P Global estimates that new discoveries averaged 50Mt annually from 1990 to 2010. Moving to the present, discoveries have fallen by 80% to only 8Mt / year.
Current estimates expect a cumulative supply gap of 50Mt or over two years of global demand, between 2022 and 2030.
Mining project approval rates have stalled. During the first half of 2022, the volume of committed projects totaled just 260,000 tonnes of production per year.
Mining Project Approvals by Year (kt copper)
Three Ways to Invest in a Copper Shortage
Given the significant inventory shortages we have identified above, copper prices are poised to hold up better than other commodities if we are going into a period of economic weakness.
A resumption of quantitative easing by Central Banks or falling interest rates, could easily push copper prices to new highs under the current supply shortages.
We prefer three different ways to invest in these trends, bucketed by diversification and risk.
On the lower risk end of the spectrum is the Global X Copper Miners ETF (Ticker: COPX). The ETF is well diversified with 51 positions, and the top 10 stocks taking up a little over half of portfolio.
The diversification of COPX helps you avoid taking on company risk, the risk that one company does something stupid. COPX provides exposure to the price of copper with the potential for better returns than physical copper given the operating leverage copper miners have to the underlying commodity.
Top 25 Holdings of the COPX Copper ETF
Year-to-date copper prices are outperforming the copper miners 3.4%, though in early February the copper miners were up 18%, 10% more than physical copper.
YTD Performance of Copper vs COPX ETF
Our second preferred way to invest in copper upside is to own a high-quality large miner like Southern Copper (Ticker: SCCO). Southern Copper has a market value of $55bn and generates almost 80% of revenue from copper.
Southern Copper Footprint
Yes, Southern Copper is more expensive than large mining peers like BHP or Freeport-McMoRan, but it has outperformed them significantly this year due to its heavy copper weighting. Exactly the exposure and outcome an investor would want.
Forecast EV/EBITDA in 2023
YTD Performance
Our final investment pick to take advantage of the positive copper outlook is a small cap miner, with a unique value proposition. Investing in small caps does come with higher operational risks, but this is balanced by far higher return potential as smaller miners are often mispriced, especially at the beginning of a sustained period of stable to rising commodity prices, like we may be in today.
The company we’ve chosen has a truly unique operational footprint as it produces copper but does not need a mine to do so. The company Amerigo Resources (Ticker: ARG, ARREF), which we’ve written about before on Capital10x, provides significant leverage to copper prices without exposing investors to uncertainties that come from operating a complex copper mine.
Amerigo receives waste fluid (tailings) from El Teniente, one of the largest copper mines in the world. The company extracts the remaining Copper and Molybdenum from the waste stream, selling it back to the mine at the current global copper price.
https://preview.redd.it/km165rqb6wqa1.png?width=705&format=png&auto=webp&s=5ed4b9bd1ffdf944ad1e0be228ab6f31de71f960
Another risk mitigator with Amerigo is the company’s very low leverage. Cash exceeds debt which gives the company flexibility should copper prices decline for a period, if the world does go into a shallow recession.
Amerigo is trading on a trailing EV/EBITDA of 5.3x with Copper at $4.11/lb. The last time the stock traded at 5.3x EV/EBITDA copper was at $3.00/lb.
Amerigo EV/EBITDA multiple vs Copper Price
This tells us there is significant upside at current copper prices, especially seeing as EBITDA is expected to be $36 million at $3.60/lb copper which is in line with EBITDA in 2018, when the stock was at a similar multiple.
Bottom Line: Amerigo is pricing in $3.60/lb copper when prices are trading at $4.00/lb or 10% higher.

Commodity Prices Rarely Lie
Whenever we notice two economically sensitive commodities like oil and copper diverging in price, we take notice.
After looking at the fundamentals of each, it became clear there are huge differences that likely explain the divergence.
Oil investment may be low historically, but we can see demand weakening in real time through rising inventory levels in the US and elsewhere.
Copper in contrast has an acute supply shortage. The supply situation is so critical that even as global growth and demand are weakening, prices have been rising, telling us supply just isn’t there.
Copper has the superior short term and long term demand trends and continues to be our preferred commodity investment this decade, regardless of the chances we see of a global recession in the near future.

2023.03.30 17:12 Platano-Rex Album Review and track picks feature.

How do I turn off the album review (five stars rating) and the track picks that appears between the track number and track name? I find that track pick odd, not really highlighting the best tracks of an album, to the point that seems annoying to me, so I want to get rid of this feature.

I’ve been on Xywav for about an year and was on Xyrem for about a year before that. I had to stop the Xyrem because of how the high sodium concentration made me feel. But now I’m experiencing high blood pressure and heart rate fluctuations. I can’t seem to find a list of side effects online, but I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience.

2023.03.30 17:12 Sallos_Vallat MZ1 vs Atlantis Mini vs X2 mini for aggressive fingertip grip 20.5x11 hands

So, I've been cycling around G303SE on an aggressive claw grip and Viper Mini on an aggressive fingertip. The thing about g303se is that I've some personal complaints about it that I want to avoid dragging too much into. Still, the mainly are the rigid and uncomfortable m1/m2 (I use two layers of black soft corepad grip to fix it, but still not good enough) and how somewhat my fingers end up being far back (Even tho I have long fingers, I think I curl them too much, but it feels natural to me anyways), which adds to a more uncomfortable trigger feeling.
After 20+ mices, I want to try only a few left, as for claw being NP-01 and KPA. As for fingertip HSK+ and PRO (Prob never get as the price and QC are unbalanced), +those in the title.
From my viewing, I've narrowed to these three options cuz:
MZ1 - Straight sides, shorter than VPM, and lower button height. Most importantly, it has unmatched m1/m2 grooves, which, IMO, is game-changing for fingertip (felt on G403 and Haste) as they provide all the stability that 99% of people who tries fingertip on meta mices don't find.
Atlantis mini - 100% upgraded Viper Mini, lower button height, lower weight, and arguably better sides for curled fingers (easiest to get from these 3).
X2 mini - probably the one I won't get anyways, as it's hard to get, expensive, and has poor QC, and I will never get any special edition as if the og isn't costly enough to get where I live (Brazil).
So what do you think?
My thinking atm is waiting for a wired MZ1 when it appears as being U$D49,99, which I could get with no taxes for Brazil while also keeping looking if something second-hand appears here. Get Atlantis mini sometime in the next few weeks. And maybe get an X2 mini if something low price appears somewhere.

2023.03.30 17:11 tiphanie88 SF developer freelance demand in EU

Hi,
I've been a Salesforce Developer for more than 4 years but I feel like it's way harder to find freelance contracts since the beginning of the year, or the rate I'm asking is too high for the opportunities that I hear about...
I'm based in Paris and look for opportunities anywhere in Europe as long as they are fully remote (can travel occasionally of course).
Do you also have the same issue as me ? How do you find freelance role in 2023 🥲

2023.03.30 17:11 RainMateriall Which crypto is set to explode this year?

If you consider how volatile this stuff may be, consider that as of March 4, bitcoin’s value has ranged from a low of $15,599.05 to a high of $48,086.84 over the past year.
I am aware that most of us are wondering all the time, which one will bring the biggest potential return. Although bitcoin might be the obvious choice, it’s not necessarily the best one in 2023.
But there's still ethereum, binance, or tether, many people prefer mana or algo, it's just a matter of time which one of these will explode.
I'm always into revealing new cryptocurrencies, right now what bothers me is that so-called 3ST twitter account, no idea what’s going on but I heard there was a massive production happening in Dubai.
What I find as one of the general rules, the larger the market cap, the more stable the asset, though it also means the coin has less room to grow.
But, it's important to keep an eye on things such as 24-hour volume, supply, and similar metrics.
So, what do you assume is the next crypto to explode this year?

2023.03.30 17:11 fat2fitsure How do I motivate myself to lose weight?

Motivating oneself to lose weight can be a challenging task, but it is definitely achievable. Here are some tips that may help:
  1. Set realistic goals: Make sure your weight loss goals are achievable and realistic. Set small goals that can be easily accomplished, such as losing 1-2 pounds a week.
  2. Create a plan: Create a plan that includes a healthy diet and regular exercise routine. Make a schedule and stick to it.
  3. Find a support system: Find friends, family members, or a support group that can encourage and motivate you throughout your weight loss journey.
  4. Reward yourself: Set up rewards for achieving your goals, such as buying new clothes, taking a vacation, or treating yourself to a massage.
  5. Visualize your success: Visualize yourself achieving your weight loss goals and imagine how great you will feel once you accomplish them.
  6. Keep a record: Keep track of your progress by recording your weight and measurements regularly. This will help you see the progress you have made and motivate you to continue.
Remember, losing weight takes time and effort, but with patience and determination, it is definitely achievable.

2023.03.30 17:11 matthewb621 Concoction for Overworked Bankers

My roommate is a 23-year-old banker. He works insane hours at insane times - most of the time, I have no idea how he does it. He is currently fueled by coffee and nicotine, as are many of his peers. This is an unhealthy, unsustainable lifestyle, but my other roommates and I are trying to devise a concoction to help him power through those intensive financial modeling sessions.
We have started with Yerba Mate tea from our local tea shop, but we are finding the drop in caffeine is not feasible for someone who needs to go for 3-4 hours before taking a break.
What else can we add to the drink to make it have more of a "kick" and last longer? Celsius is an excellent example of something we are looking for, but it can sometimes be too intense. We were thinking of a non-prescriptive extended-release Adderall.

2023.03.30 17:11 RefrigeratorFar2769 Medical procedure advice

I need to have corrective jaw/teeth work done and I have two options that I cannot decide between. Insurance will cover 50% of either option
Option A) have two teeth removed and wear braces for ~18 months. 7800$ (3900$ after insurance) Option B) have corrective jaw surgery to straighten out my jaw followed by braces, total time ~ 24 months. 8900$ (4450$ after insurance).
Here's why I am hung up on this choice. The surgery will cause a physical change in my facial structure that would sharpen my jawline and chin protrusion. These have been sources of enormous insecurity and I have a beard in part because I hate how my jaw/chin look without it. I would never have considered cosmetic surgery to have it corrected and didn't know that it was possible until the Orthodontist told me so. I was a chubby kid with few or no friends growing up so I have a lot of physical insecurity that have followed me to adulthood.
Now that the option to fix one of my least favourite body feature is on the table, I'm struggling to rationalise not taking that option.
Cost and recovery support are not concerns as I have a strong support network now and fair salary.
Thank you all in advance for your advice, I'm glad I found this subreddit.

2023.03.30 17:10 GalaxyBubbz Battle Islands Commanders

Yes the games are quite but still operational and more popular than most realise, people do play them, one just takes more patience than the other but when you play both of them together it makes sense and it doesn't feel so dead suddenly.
Their are active clans and alliance and a lot of casual players you will meet if you reach their rank, new players come in at low levels all the time but then you begin seeing them less as you level up yourself and start finding harder players. When it cant find a fair opponent, it will put you against someone harder or easier then your strategy will really be tested.
Now, on 'BATTLE ISLANDS COMMANDERS'' we have an alliance called ''Active'' and we all self recruit when things are quiet or looking dull (we always try aim for max members). We are not that strict we do allow people to take breaks and leave or join as they please, even if kicked the week before, we still allow people to come back and their if no requirement's to join atm. We say we aim for 40 members 24/7 when really its just to try encourage members in the team to help out before things take a turn in the wrong direction. Plus, it so much easier when the team helps equally, we normally just invite randoms we meet in game or online but we do our best not to spam the people, so we try recruit at different levels, on different days from each other, depending how many is online, ect, we estimate it and try recruit sensibly and accordingly.
To find us, install the game ''Battle Islands Commanders and search the alliance called ''Active'', our flag is a blue bombshell support flag and the info states the years we're running atm. The leader is a lavametallic. Their is no alliance on battle islands we own atm, just battle islands commander's.
Battle Islands Commanders is what we play to save us waiting on building queues on Battle Islands, the two games can also switch back and forth quite quickly, but ultimately yes, you definitely want to join or create an alliance (which is hard work) for the full game experience, or perks and bonuses.
Facebook Group Name - Battle Islands Commanders - Active Alliance
This just launch so the online pages are bran new, but on the game itself we have a lot of good members so come join us and help everything grow!

2023.03.30 17:10 Astaren922 Idea for making switching between keyboard layouts as seamless as possible

I have an idea, but I do not know how to execute it or whether it is even possible. As you know, the QWERTY layout dominates the world, and it is not going away. However, the idea of switching to Dvorak really intrigues me, and after doing lots of research on the topic, people say that it has great benefits to QWERTY, but those benefits don't outweigh the negatives. Those negatives being shortcuts, working on other devices, and basically anything that has the standard set in stone. What I'm thinking is whether it is possible to create a USB-A stick that when you plug it into any Windows or Linux computer, it automatically runs a script that remaps all your desired keys. With options like a toggle hotkey to turn the remapping on or off, as well as a hotkey to shut down the executed file and eject the USB stick. You could simply carry this stick on your keychain anywhere you go, and when you need to work on someone else's device, boom, perfectly mapped keyboard to your desired layout with revamped hotkeys. I know that this is possible, I'm just not skilled enough yet to know how to do it. Any ideas on how to do this?

2023.03.30 17:10 ziphnor Considering sending Neo G9 back...

I am having a hard time finding out whether I should send back my Neo G9 and go for a more conservative display (38"21:9 IPS for example). I am hoping to get a bit of feedback from other owners before I make a decision (maybe some of my problems are in software etc).
Background: Upgrading from an old 34" [email protected] IPS. Primary use is "top-down" strategy/RPG gaming and software development (using dark theme). I have used it with two different computers. One is a desktop PC (currently 1080ti, will swap in 4090 later today), the other a Thinkpad P1 Gen 5 laptop.
I have several issue that are annoying me, but the biggest relates to uniformity of dark gray (very common in dark theme ;). I am not sure if this something to do with viewing angles, backlight bleed or glare (or a combo), but no matter where I sit, some parts of the screen appear brighter than others when displaying dark gray. It is less pronounced when I center myself vertically, but that is not a very ergonomic position (normally you don't want any or much monitor above eye height. Is that just how it is with these large monitors, or is the VA limitations driving me crazy?
Other things which have been annoying me:
Are these common annoyances with this display, or is it just me being either unlucky or having too high expectations?
