Hi! I am looking for some input from experienced language teachers that have taught in Vietnam. I am look to start teaching English in Vietnam as the next step in my career but with no real connections in Vietnam, I hope to gain some insight from your advice!
I am a native speaker from the US, with a CELTA and bachelors degree. Unfortunately I have no official ELT experience as I’ve held a corporate job since I’ve graduated from my University.
Some inquiries that I have are:

• If you could start over what are some ways that you could’ve maximized your earning per month without time conflicts and burnout?(I fully realize that no experience will put me in the lowest pay bracket, so hoping to possibly pick up additional part time gigs if thats even possible for my first year. I am hoping to go to grad school soon so I would like to save as much as I can)
  
• What other factors makes a candidate attractive to ELT jobs, or how would you approach applying jobs differently? (Can I put on my salesman hat and embellish my past corporate training sessions as “teaching” experience? Do I choose a brand and market myself in a certain way, like a business English teacher with corporate experience? Should I dye my hair blonde to look super westernized?)
  
• What resources have you used to get the know-how on every single aspect of relocating to Vietnam? (taxes, visa, apartment, etc. Having trouble finding a reliable source for Americans)
  
• Like the title states, knowing what you know now, what would you tell your past self before teaching/moving to Vietnam?
  

within the last year i’ve had a handful of people i considered good friends tell me they’re “in love” with me. it’s very disheartening. very disappointing. i just want friends who pick me SOLELY to be just friends. i don’t have shit to offer these people. it makes things super awkward. just a small rant but it really fucking messes my head up cause of the lack of emotional permanence so i’m like how can you feel this for me???

this is my last rant before I disconnect. I would’ve never imagined that we’d be choking away a 3-0 lead in the ecf due to jimmy and bam playing extremely bad.
Celtics avoiding the sweep and winning game 4, that wasn’t surprising but how jimmy and bam have played in the last 3 close-out games is disgusting. the C’s have decent defenders, but bam and jimmy are all stars who’ve been here before. they’ve faced multiple different coverages and a variety of defenders. if you’re the star you have to find a way to get buckets. Jimmy’s offense now looks like he’s a shell of himself. They both speak so confidently in the post game interviews but play like they forgot how to shoot.
If jimmy and bam played well in games 4, 5 or 6, just ONE of them this series would’ve been over. the refs were awful and spo’s rotations were annoying tonight but this is all because our stars haven’t had a decent performance since game 3. Jimmy didn’t even play that well in game 3. His best was game 1.
Our two best players who were the main reasons we got this far, are now the reasons why we’re heading to game 7 and not the finals.
And you can say “they won’t be that bad again” but we said that last game and the game before. And at this point, even if they play well this is game 7. On their home court where they’re gonna be desperate to make history and be the first team to win a series after being down 3-0. We got all the negative pressure on the other hand.
Don’t know what’s going to happen, my gut tells me we lose on Monday but I’m hoping I’m wrong. We know the exact reasons why we’re losing and they still haven’t fixed it.

My(22f) Mom (53) almost died the other night and I still can't get the image out of my head. I am currently home for the summer having just finished my last spring semester of college. My mom who is still pretty young has been plagued with a lot of health issues in the past year and her drinking and smoking don't help her medical issues (she is trying to cut back). She has recently been diagnosised with severe osteoporosis, anemia and multiple vitamin deficiencies, she has been prescribed a lot of medication for this. She found out about her osteoporosis after her husband (M we will call him) slammed her against the wall when he was drunk and fractured 2 discs in her lower back (I have always hated him and I have never viewed him as a father he has always been abusive towards my mother). The other night (5/23/23) after dinner I was in my room playing a video game with my friends when I heard gasping through my headphones. My mom has had a long history of ranging asthma attacks but this one was worse. No one heard her banging on the counter for help. I walked out of my room and down the hall about maybe 2-3 feet when I round the corner and see my mom on the floor, I ran to the back of the house and yelled at M "Mom is on the floor I need her inhaler" he grabs her inhaler and quickly follows be back to the kitchen. I look closer at my mom at this point and see that she is starting to turn blue and not breathing. I don't know what took over me in that moment but I was oddly calm, I adjusted my mom and started doing CPR on her (I have never done CPR on a real person only on dummies in highschool). I yelled at M to call 911. I don't remember how many compressions I did on her to start but I remember giving her 2 breaths and the sound that it made still haunts me after the two breaths I kept doing compressions till her eyes opened back up and I stopped and grabbed her hand and told her to squeeze my hand in hers. I remember turning her on her side into the recovery position as I listened to her labored breathing the EMTs rushed in and took over. I remember sitting on the cold kitchen floor watching my mom come back to her surroundings, I remember her looking at me pissed as she realized she was surrounded by paramedics checking her pulse and heart rate, arguing with them that she was fine. I kept telling her that she needed to go, that I had to give her CPR that she was turning blue and she refused, I walked to my room and called my older brother telling him to tell mom to go. She was eventually cleared by the paramedics after reporting her vitals back to the on call doctor. My mom hates hospitals and refuses to go to them. I sat out in the living room with her for a few hours after that and she eventually got up and went to bed. I checked on her every hour to make sure that she was still breathing while she was asleep. The next morning when I woke up I went to walk out into the kitchen to get myself breakfast and had a flashback of seeing her on the ground me over her giving her CPR and started having a panic attack (I have had these over the years before but not nearly as bad as this was). Since then I haven't been able to really sleep, everytime I close my eyes I see her dying in my arms and hear myself counting the compression echoing in my head, and her getting further and further away from me. I have to go check on her every hour and make sure she is still breathing, I don't end up falling asleep until 5am when she usually gets up and starts her day and I know M will be up as well.
I know that this isn't healthy or good for me and I am trying to get in to see my doctor to get a referral to see a new therapist. I have only told a couple of people about this primarily my Brother (23) and boyfriend (23), I have told 2 of my friends. Nothing will ever prepare you for the trauma of having to perform CPR on a real person but especially when it's you own mother.

so long story short I have gay male king that I was trying to see if I could impregnate via cheats. So first I tried the pregnancy [mother ID] [father ID] cheat placing my character and their lover's name and it got accepted but on the two months mark, around the time the pregnant trait would appear, the game crashed. Next I tried adding the trait pregnant to my character and it worked. Only he just had the trait that said he was one month pregnant for about a year so I figured it was like an inactive trait or whatever. So again I tried the pregnancy [mother ID] [father ID] cheat (while he had the pregnant trait) and one month later(or maybe two idk) game crashed again. Tried to add the instant_birth cheat as well and game crashed instantly. My theory is that what's causing the game to crash is whatever says that the pregnant person has a belly that supposed the be showing or that they have to get into the pose all the pregnant women get into and that's just not available for men. My question is if there is anyway that this could maybe be worked around? Does anybody have any ideas? Or should I just give this up and start looking into how to adopt or spawn a child some other way? Also, I did try leaving the [father ID] in blank and game still crashed so at least I know it wasn't because of that. Sorry if I missed something, it's really late here and I've been up for hours trying to figure this out but all posts everywhere seem to agree that it's impossible, but I still just wanted to make sure.

im happily in a relationship where my feelings are taken seriously, but listening to my friends at times makes me realize that men are expected to be confidence filled creatures with zero insecurities about themselves because ”insecurity is unattractive”.
as someone who has struggled with insecurity around many things about both my body and personality throughout my life that just hurts to know.
having insecurities is fucking natural, especially in a society where beauty standards are so strict.
reading through some reddit posts about common insecurities for example penis size ive come to realize alot of women would be fine with the size as long as the dude isnt insecure about it? what? how is someone supposed to not be insecure about something like that, when its pushed in media and hes likely had negative experiences because of it in the past. i think its crazy.
men experience sadness, insecurity, and negative emotions other than anger all the time and even people who encourage us to show those emotions are often turned off by them. the countless stories of men being pressured by their girlfriends to open up only to be dumped for crying. i think its fucking stupid.
being in a relationship where i feel comfortable speaking of my insecurities, crying in front of her and all around being emotional makes me feel incredibly lucky. like 1 in a million lucky. i think we need some sort of societal change to allow men to show emotions from a young age so girls could get used to it. maybe? idk. i just think currently men are expected to provide emotional support and expected to get it from thin air or to provide it for themselves somehow. ridiculous.

honestly I don’t even know where to start. my childhood was already a whole hellfire on it’s own but so far me trying this adulting thing? it sucks. it sucks the most without you though. i was lost and tired and making awful decisions but i always had my bug. bug the most perfect person ever. bug made the fucking painful and exhausting as fuck adulting not so bad. I reached out to his family, cried with his mother, called texted and met up with his older sister and our other friend, I called and showed up and texted and tried so damn hard and did everything I could. granted I was dealing with my own mental problems + getting help and he was my other half so the fact I didn’t have my better part of myself and honestly even for selfish reasons I had big changes I was making and I relied on my best friend to give me some sense of grounding bc I know we would never change. I was reeling over the sudden disconnect (which yes I know didn’t help but I fix that later, also sorry if things don’t make sense i am kinda drunk) but dude I haven’t seen him in over a year now and he only texts me here and there every few months because his mental health is so bad. his parents tell me he can’t leave his room, he won’t get a job again, but my heart is shattered for him. he’s so amazing and intelligent and such a loving human being, so genuine and kind and always has something uplifting to say to you I know I could never give him exactly what he needs but I would destroy 100 planets and a millions stars and sit infront of a stupid PS4 for the next million years to pull all the fifa player cards he wants. I just hate my aggressive little dog. She gets overstimulated so easily and then she attacks my other dog.
Today my girl (20 lbs) was sitting next to me and my (now ex who still lives with me) tossed me some Jerky and went to let the other 2 dogs in since there was a thunderstorm. She led the big one (70 lbs) to the kennel but the 10 lb girl attacked my girl. The big dog ran up to join the "fun" but luckily I caught her by the collar right as she was getting growly and trying to bite my girl and i dragged her to the bathroom then came back to break up the fight.
I've learned I can't stick my hands in because I've gotten bitten before cause the little one will continue to attack, so I grabbed her by the scruff and put her in my son's room. I couldnt stop it early enough to protect my dog from the little one because the big one took priority to restrain.
My girl had puncture wounds for the first time because of this aggressive little dog. I'm so thankful she is only 10 lbs and can't do more damage or else I would have out her down a long time ago. I want my ex to move out with her dog before she learns to be as shitty as my dogs because she would be dangerous and probably adds to the overstimulations of the little one. I wish I could get rid of the little one but my son loves her. I can't rehome my dog because she has a health condition that costs a bit extra to maintain and she has food aggression and low tolerance for mistreatment or people invading her space. I don't trust anyone else to manage her. She listens to me and i understand her body language really well. She's only ever growled at others but she would absolutely bite if someone didn't listen to her warning. My mom has offered to take either of my little ones but I don't trust my mom to handle my girl with her health problem and food aggression and I can't rehome my son's dog.
I imagine there will be less stimulation once my ex and her dog leave but I feel guilty pushing that. I'm not sure how to bring it up.
I just think all the people who say "adopt don't shop" and bash breeders are so unrealistic. Same with the ones who say "if you get a dog you have it for life." I should have rehomed the little dog immediately when I noticed the problem but I thought she just needed time to adjust. If i didnt feel like i was a bad person for giving her back to the spca immediatelt then i wouldnt have been dealing with this for the last 4 years. I'm stuck with this dog who causes problems.
It makes me never want to get a pet dog again.

I would like to get CSWP certified as a fallback option as I am moving to an area that seems to have a lot more CAD/CNC related jobs than jobs which actually pertain to my CS major.
I am a hobbyist maker with some experience with Fusion360 (absolutely hated it) and a significant amount of experience in FreeCAD (not great but I <3 FOSS) but I have never used SolidWorks before. I also have experience in manual technical drafting and am familiar with the basics of tolerancing and clearance and such.
How long would I likely take to get to a CSWP level studying specifically for the exam? Using SolidWorks after the exam even if I do not find employment is possible if the software is significantly faster than my current work flow but currently would only care about meeting exam objectives and frankly hate the very idea of subscription software.

LessWrong post: Hands-On Experience Is Not Magic
People have posited elaborate and detailed scenarios in which computers become evil and destroy all of humanity. You might have wondered how someone can anticipate the robot apocalypse in such fine detail, given that we've never seen a real AI before. How can we tell what it would do if we don't know anything about it?
This is because you are dumb, and you haven't realized the obvious solution: simply assume that you already know everything.
As one LessWronger explains, if you're in some environment and you need to navigate it to your advantage then there is no need to do any kind of exploration to learn about this environment:

Not because you need to learn the environment's structure — we're already assuming it's known.

You already know everything! Actual experience is unnecessary.
But perhaps that example is too abstract for your admittedly feeble mind. Suppose instead that you've never seen the game tic-tac-toe before, and someone explains the rules to you. Do you then need to play any example games to understand it? No!

You'll likely instantly infer that taking the center square is a pretty good starting move, because it maximizes optionality[3]. To make that inference, you won't need to run mental games against imaginary opponents, in which you'll start out by making random moves. It'll be clear to you at a glance.

"But", you protest, stupidly, "won't the explanation of the game's rules involve the implicit execution of example games? Won't any kind of reasoning about the game do the same thing?" No, of course not, you dullard. The moment the final words about the game's rules leave my lips, the solution to the game should spring forth into your mind, fully formed, without any intermediary reasoning.
Once you become less dumb and learn some math, the same will be true there: you should instantly understand all the implications of any theorem about any topic that you've previously studied.

you'll be able to instantly "slot" them into the domain's structure, track their implications, draw associations.

Still have doubts? Well, consider the fact that you are not dead. This is proof that actual experience is unnecessary for learning:

The main text is pretty self explanatory, but I am in need of desperate advice because at this rate I'm not going to make it. I am wondering how easy is it to meet people and make friends at convention since in the past I have no luck and so this year decided to give cosplaying a try and see if that will change. and also I wanted to know how frequently do cosplayer get stop by other people to get a photo with you in which I am hoping that would occur to me.

My partner is in jail and awaiting sentencing right now due to an unexpected mental health crisis with some rough outcomes.
I know she is struggling a lot right now- I write her every day and make sure to answer all her calls that I can, leave voicemails, send photos, and am trying to get other friends in touch with her so she feels cared for and supported. She is being super positive but I am wondering if there’s anything that people did that made things better for you or anything more that you wished you had.
Are there any specific books you found particularly helpful too? Any types of letters that made you happier? She is so stressed she can’t really seem to say what she specifically wants more of and just seems to want contact with the outside world in general.
I am really worried for how traumatic this experience will be when she’s out and the stress all hits her when she doesn’t have to pretend to be strong anymore. Are there ways that people could have prepared to support you as you got out?
