Holiday inn express playa del carmen

I usually tell stories on this sub, several of which have been scary or dangerous experiences while traveling. I just booked a last-minute trip to Tulum for this spring break and I've been reading countless articles about kidnapping, torturing and murdering of American tourists by the Cartel. I will not be seeking out drugs from anyone on this trip or venturing out at night. I will try and take all the safest precautions.
I recently visited Cabo with my family and we were fine, but a few friends I met on the trip were robbed and extorted multiple times (albeit from being drunk and accepting coke from strangers).
I was wondering if anyone has any valuable advice or stories to share from recent travels to Mexico (i.e Cancun, Tulum, Playa Del Carmen etc.)
I don't want to come back from this trip with another crazy story to post on this subreddit or worse, not come back at all..

My wife and I are celebrating our 15y anniversary, and are going back to the Mayan Riviera.
We haven't been since our honeymoon, and are looking for a couple of day trips to do through the week. Zip-lining through the trees, swimming in cenotes, ATVs, catamarans, etc. Maybe even some Mayan ruins tours if they're highly recommended. The only thing we did last time was Xel-Ha, which we enjoyed but it seems like the price has skyrocketed since we were last there.
Please send any suggestions you have for trips in the Playa del Carmen area!

I recently got married in Playa del Carmen in February and just got my pictures. I’m so disappointed in them! Makes me so sad. No edits on the skin texture (which was on the quote), for groups we look very awkward because they weren’t placing us and giving us tips on how to pose our hands or arms. I wish I would have said something day of but I was so in the moment and didn’t want to be a “bridezilla”. And kept telling myself it was fine and they’ll look great. They’re the experts.
Has anyone been disappointed with their pictures at first then learned to like them?
If you get married in the Cancun area would not recommend Erik Ruiz or Amma Love stories. They’re very nice but unless you’re going to give them lots of direction and you and your partner have great skin I’d look elsewhere.
