The name of the Chinese marketplace (consonant with the word "koala") suggests that it was originally focused exclusively on Australian brands. But a little later, the scope of the Chinese online marketplace expanded to include the sale of imported goods from all over the world.
However, unlike Tmall and some other Chinese marketplaces, Kaola is positioned as a slightly more "prestigious" China online marketplace for the Chinese middle class whose representatives often go to the platform for shopping. The loyalty of this demanding group of consumers is ensured by a strict system of product selection and quality control. The online marketplace has even developed its own system that helps shoppers track the customs history of goods using QR codes. Thanks to this, users have no doubts about the authenticity of the goods sold. As a result, the brand's presence on Kaola increases its appeal in China.
The main product categories on the Chinese marketplace are infant formula and other children's products, snacks, health foods, cosmetics, apparel, accessories and home appliances.

J.D. Worldwide

JD Worldwide, the import section of another popular third party marketplace JD.com, is seen as an alternative to the top online marketplaces such as Tmall Global for exporters looking to generate revenue from cross-border trade.
JD has become a famous China marketplace for having the most developed system of its own warehouses and delivery of goods. The company is also trying to maintain its brand by working with foreign merchants. JD Worldwide has partnered with global (DHL) and regional (Australia Post and Yamato) logistics leaders. In addition, the Chinese online marketplace has 32 warehouses for cross-border trade. In January 2022, JD announced a partnership with western e-commerce giant Shopify. This allowed Shopify sellers to enter the Chinese market through JD with little to no effort.
As with Tmall, almost every conceivable category of B2C products is sold on the JD platform. However, manufacturers of goods for automobiles, home appliances and electronics should pay special attention to JD Worldwide. The majority of Chinese consumers look for such goods on JD, expecting the high quality approach and effective after sales services. Today, it is difficult to consider JD as one of the pure play marketplaces because its scope is quite broad.

Duoduo International

The Pinduoduo marketplace (PDD) became a major Chinese ecommerce sensation in the second half of the 2010s due to two reasons. First, unlike other popular Chinese online marketplaces, Pinduoduo is a group shopping system that allows users to buy together at very deep discounts. The second is its focus on consumers from China's affluent hinterland. But it has also become a source of vulnerability in the e-commerce platform's business model. Although Pinduoduo's active users are on par with the market leader Tmall, the total sales of goods on the site are significantly lower than those on Alibaba's marketplace and some other Chinese online marketplaces.
In order to somehow solve this problem, Pinduoduo launched its own cross-border section - Duoduo International in 2019. As a newcomer in this business, PDD started to attract foreign brands with favorable conditions for entering the Chinese marketplace. Unlike other marketplaces, the owners of online stores on Duoduo International do not have to pay an annual service fee, and the registration deposit and order commission are noticeably lower than those of competitors.
However, cross-border from PDD has a significant drawback – the marketplace does not have its own warehouses and logistics solutions, so sellers have to deal with these issues themselves.
Pinduoduo is actively developing the trade of foreign cosmetics and perfumes. Taking into account the main audience of the site, we can recommend Duoduo International to manufacturers of conspicuous consumption products.

Douyin Cross Border

Douyin, the Chinese twin brother of TikTok, has become a symbol of the convergence of social media and online retail in China. Douyin has many of the elements needed to succeed in e-commerce. On the one hand, it has the most engaging content formats – short videos watched by 900 million Chinese on various platforms, and live broadcasts, which became one of the main profit-making tools in Chinese online commerce in the 2010s. On the other hand, there are more than 600 million active users and an army of influencers who have earned the trust of their subscribers.
Therefore, in 2018, Douyin entered the e-commerce market, initially by actively collaborating with Alibaba marketplaces. Two years later, Douyin broke off its partnership with Tmall and built its own infrastructure to provide full-cycle in-app trading. And in 2021, it began to attract foreign brands for cross-border trade.
On the whole, cross-border trading on Douyin is still in the early stages of development, which allows even small-brand product sellers to carve out a significant niche on the platform. However, when choosing which products to display and how to promote them, it is very important to remember that Douyin is the territory of wealthy Gen Z consumers.

Kuaishou Cross Border

Kuaishou, with its 400 million viewers, is often metaphorically called "TikTok for the Chinese village". The majority of its users are young residents of provincial cities who prefer to watch short videos about people similar to themselves, rather than about the daily lives of rich KOLs.
Although Kuaishou is still playing catch-up with Douyin, the social network began to engage in e-commerce much earlier than its main competitor. As a result, about 20% of the company's revenue now comes from e-commerce (while Douyin still relies mainly on advertising revenue).
But at the same time, like Douyin, Kuaishou only announced the start of its cross-border business last year. Therefore, this part of Kuaishou's business is still in its infancy, which may be even more beneficial for exporters - the platform will offer more favorable cooperation terms and additional services at this stage. However, it is not so easy to get on Kuaishou now - the site only accepts manufacturers of cosmetics, food, watches and luxury goods, and then only by invitation from Kuaishou itself.

VIP International

VIP.com is one of the oldest Chinese marketplaces, as well as the world's largest flash-sale marketplace (the main method of sales on it is discount offers that are valid for no more than 24 hours). The products that are sold on this Chinese marketplace are mainly related to the fashion industry – clothes, shoes, cosmetics, etc.
While VIP.com is no match for the largest marketplaces in China's overall e-commerce market, its cross-border division, VIP International, is among the market leaders, accounting for approximately 10% of China's cross-border B2C commerce.
Buying popular brands at low prices is what its users come to the platform for. Therefore, unless you are a world famous brand, VIP.com is unlikely to be your first sales channel in China.

Little Red Book Cross-Border

If Douyin and Kuaishou are Chinese versions of TikTok, then Little Red Book (or simply RED) can be loosely described as the local Instagram. On this platform, ordinary users and influencers talk about their lifestyles and write reviews on the products they use (mostly these are clothes, cosmetics, skin care products). Other users can purchase the products shown in the photos with just a few clicks. This can be done both in stores within the application and by clicking on links to third-party marketplaces (for example, Tmall). In this way, a business account on Little Red Book can serve two functions at once – an independent sales channel and a tool for promoting products on other platforms.
It is worth noting that RED has a very unusual demographic profile – about 90% of the platform's 100 million audience are women.

Suning Global

Suning was originally known in China as a large offline retailer of various electronics. Later, it began to expand both in terms of the breadth of the range of goods in various categories, and in terms of its presence on the Chinese Internet. One step in Suning's e-commerce push was to attract cross-border brands from overseas.
However, Suning is not only waiting for brands of foreign electronic equipment to enter its marketplace. The company writes on its website that it primarily would like to see foreign manufacturers of baby food, cosmetics, shoes, bags and food products on its platform. In addition, while other major e-commerce platforms prefer to deal with brands that have not yet entered the Chinese market, Suning explicitly states that brands that are already listed on Tmall or JD are more likely to open an online store.
To date, Suning is the least significant of the major players, with its marketplace accounting for approximately 1.5% of the total cross-border market in China.

Conclusions

Today, more than 1400 categories of various products can be exported to China through cross-border channels (a complete list of these categories can be found at the link – a document in Chinese). Today cross-border ecommerce gives numerous opportunities to purchase inventory directly, buy consumer products from foreign brands, etc.
You can open your own cross-border online store on a dozen Chinese platforms and become a successful online retailer. Some of them are traditional marketplaces, while others are social networks with e-commerce features. But despite the differences, their requirements for exporters are similar:
● Entity registered outside of China
● Foreign registered trademark
● Statement from a foreign bank account
● Copy of passport of company's representative
● Payment of a refundable deposit (from $1.5 thousand on Pinduoduo to $10-47 thousand dollars on Tmall, depending on the category)
● Payment of an annual service fee (from $1 thousand for JD to $4.7-9.4 thousand for Tmall)
● Platform commission on orders (from 0.6% on Pinduoduo to 2-10% on Kaola)
Trading through cross-border makes it much easier to do business in China. The absence of the need to open a legal entity and a bank account in China helps reduce the risks of entering an unfamiliar market. Thus, small brands have the opportunity to test the demand for their products in China or prove to investors that they are promising without large initial investments.
China is closer than you think.

Hi all! My name is Yuri, I'm a 25 bisexual dude from the US Midwest, specifically North Dakota. Due to it being a small, rural state, dating really sucks for introverted nerds like me. I'm already done with my education (At least for now?) and basically just do my work and hobbies. I try to be as funny as possible, as I think laughter is really important, and I would say personality wise I'm very balanced! I deal with some mental health issues, though I mostly keep them managed with medication and meditation, and I'm happy to help you with yours as well!
As for my hobbies, my biggest one is video games! Normally I'm playing single player games, mostly RPGs and strategy games. Right now I'm addicted to Octopath Traveler 2 and Fire Emblem Engage, both of which I'm enjoying immensely! I'm a big PC and Switch gamer, and my most played game on PC by far is Terraria. I also play a ton of Pokémon, basically any Pokémon game I've at least touched a little, including romhacks! That being said, I am getting back into Overwatch 2 right now and enjoying it immensely.
Another big hobby of mine is board games and Magic the Gathering. I will likely show you my large board game shelf, and hopefully in the future we can play many together! I will definitely be talking to you about Magic at some points, even if you aren't super into it. Sorry about that in advance!
Outside of those things, I love comedy and horror, especially the dark and macabre stuff. I'm a big fan of ARGs, unfiction stories, and analogue horror, things like Marble Hornets or more recently The Mandela Catalogue. I recently watched The Incantation on Netflix, which I thought was incredible! Recently I've been fixated on two games, Fear and Hunger and it's sequel Termina. I think their stories are both very interesting, and the world is so gritty. My favorite book ever is House of Leaves, which is an incredible horror novel that destabilizes writing as a concept, it's very cool.
I'm looking for someone to indulge in these hobbies with, as well as many other things! Someone to voice chat with on an almost daily basis. I don't mind if you're clingy, I am a bit as well! 2023.03.21 20:36 TheGlenrothes I've created a set of "realism" Nuzlocke rules for an "immersive run", how would you adjust it?

I've played both games several times, done multiple "grounded" runs, wanted to play again but do something to make it fresher. Some aspects of "grounded" kind of irked me, doesn't seem very grounded for enemies to not be carrying ammo, being able to magically increase your health, carrying a whole armory of weapons at once, NPC partners being useless, and melee weapons breaking. etc. So I set about to create a set of Nuzlocke rules, rules that I impose on myself as well as make adjustments in the gameplay settings, in order to make a more immersive "realism" run. Overall this makes it easier than "grounded" but still challenging and also makes you think more about what you're doing
Rules may vary person to person, so after reading these rules, what would you change, add or remove?

All difficulty settings to "grounded" - "listen mode" isn't a thing (headphones are your friend), enemies should be alert, punishing and you should die in just a couple hits
Reduce difficulty sliders for "Allies" and "resources" to Normal - Allies should be competent as they would be in reality, and the resources setting is mostly so that you can more reasonably be expected to find rifle ammo on enemies you kill that were just shooting shot after shot at you. Some of the convenience of this will be offset with further rules.
Game play modifier "infinite melee durability" - you should expect that a pipe or machete will not break on a 3-day trip through Seattle (you need to have beat the game once to be able to turn this on)

Worried about how the rules so far will makes things too easy? read on!

You can only "carry" one large weapon at a time - Sure you have a shotgun and a rifle in your inventory, but pretend you only have one of those, and that you can only switch to the other one when you kill an enemy that has the weapon you want to switch to. because who could actually strap a rife AND a bow to their backback and be mobile? Because of this I would suggest not picking up the Hunting Pistol or the Flamethrower at all to help mitigate the issue this creates where the game stops giving you ammo because you have weapons with ammo you are swearing not to use at the moment.
You can get a second gun holster, but not a second large gun holster - for reasons stated above, you shouldn't get a large gun holster
You can only heal between encounters - you wouldn't have time to dress a gunshot wound in the heat of battle in real life, so save it for only between fights when you have ample time to dress wounds
Only pick up ammo where it makes sense to find it - The games (especially Part 2) do a good job of putting ammo where you should expect to actually find it, but not always: you find ammo on human enemies, runners with tactical gear, and in caches and active storage areas. You will skip over ammo found on long-dead infected like most clickers, coffee shop drawers, and just laying on the ground in the open. This applies to Drugs too, not that you'll be using much of the drugs as you'll see.
Only one molotov cocktail at a time - It strains believability to have even one MC in your backback, no way would you have more than one. Fortunately you can make a new one whenever you want, unlike...
Trap mines can only be made once per "day" - Molotov cocktails are easy to make, trap mines are not. If you find one, great! If you want to make one, you have to assume you could only do it during a time jump, like between days.
You can't modify melee weapons - sorry but taping half a pair of scissors to your machete won't make it more deadly, and you turned off durability anyway.
Weapon upgrades are severely limited, sort of - Just imagine what could actually be upgraded in the field? sniper scope? sure, pretend you found one. Bigger rifle cartridge, etc. And I also upgrade some things that should already be better: Shotgun and rifle damage should be severe, and fire rate should be as fast as I can go, so I upgrade those when I can afford it. But I'm not magically getting a steadier shot, less recoil, things like that. Also...
You can only upgrade weapons you are "carrying" - Since you can only "carry" one large weapon at a time, if you decided you are currently carrying a shotgun, then if you find a workbench, you can't upgrade the rifle. This means you will have to be strategic about how often you "switch" large weapons.
Personal upgrades are severely limited - You won't magically be able to withstand more damage, crafting is already too fast, prone speed is already fast enough on default, you can't craft incendiary shells or explosive arrows, stealth kills should be messy and slow. Exceptions would be upgrading to be able to make smoke bombs and craft shivs. Use your best judgement.
No silencers can be made or used - as we know, real silencers aren't actually silent, they're still pretty loud! Also you can't just make one out of wadding and a plastic bottle. So it's not an option here.

That's the gist of my rules, overall it makes it a bit easier than "grounded" but still challenging and more immersive. Plus I have to think about things more. What would you change for your own ruleset?

Hope everyone's enjoying Expérgo! I made a video analysing Paxxword (my favourite song from the EP) and wanted to share the transcript. I've only just started doing this kind of format, so let me know what you think.

‘Paxxword’ begins with rattling and bleeps that recall an internet modem, inviting the cinematic image of someone sat at a computer, attempting to hack into another character’s account. It doesn’t take long for that theme to be confirmed. The first proper line includes the title word, arranged in sweet vocal harmonies centring on D major. The verse is underpinned by an elastic bass and a pared-back beat, while the light-hearted lyrics describe the thought process involved in cracking the code, mischievously counting the permutations as if reciting a nursery rhyme.
The pre-chorus takes the challenge at hand a little more seriously, acknowledging the slim chance that, from the millions of possible passwords, the narrator will land on the right one. The music becomes more suspenseful, with sustained backing vocals and pulsating synths. And the chord progression mainly consists of elegant minor seventh chords, including G minor seven. That contains two notes from outside the song’s D major key, adding to the sense of mystery. Both of these notes are used prominently in the section’s closing melody, where they help to push us into the chorus.
We’ll skip over the chorus for now and return to it shortly. The post-chorus drops the energy, revisiting the vocal harmony idea from the intro. The section ends with a subtle white noise riser, which swells briefly, then some more data-like sound effects usher in the next verse. Here, the kick drum thumps a four-on-the-floor rhythm, like a heartbeat, before being cut off with the lyrics ‘system check’. The vocals here are shadowed by a metallic, silvery-sounding synth part. As the verse ends, frustrations grow, mistakes are made and access is denied.
In the chorus, the lyrics reveal that the premise is a romantic metaphor. Rather than trying to figure out an actual password, the narrator wants to unlock the secrets to having a closer relationship with their love interest, perhaps finding a way to help them open up. Despite all the tech imagery, the connection at the song’s heart is a human one. That casts the other lyrics in a new light, the error messages and the overloads reframed, as the narrator’s efforts to bond are met with a less positive emotional response.
The approaches of earlier sections are combined in the bridge. A short rap passage sees the narrator entering hacker mode and finally having a breakthrough, the moment marked with a busy texture, panned sound effects and a vocoder. From there, the bridge reprises the final lines of the pre-chorus, the data now ordered as planned.
In celebration, we get a final chorus with two high voices a sweet major third apart. The central question follows a melody that leaps upward, forming a contrast with the descending bassline. This, plus the looped progression as a whole, again includes notes outside the key. The same is true for the parallel sixths in the outro. These harmonic quirks help to define the song’s upbeat sound. The modem effects reappear, then give way to a few reverberant bleeps. The mission’s complete, now the password’s been cracked and a connection’s been made.

I monitor metrics throughout the day, and I notice the router switching from LTE b66 to B2, which has very poor sinr. I also noticed that band n71 kicks in throughout the day even though I have perfect n41 signal. Is this normal?

2023.03.21 20:08 DevilYanYan DPC_Watchdog_Violation during Windows 11 Install!!!

So Long story short, I started to get a bunch of freezes recently and almost all of them ended on a BSOD saying DPC_Watchdog_Violation, I also noticed that Memory Integrity Warning was constantly popping up as it kept disabling it on it's own.
After doing everything I found n the Internet:

Updated AHCI Drivers
Updated BIOS
Updated Chipset Drivers
Updated GPU Drivers
Updated Windows including all Optional Updates
Got the Samsung Magician to test the SSD Integrity, it was more than fine
Ran CHKDSK and found no errors
Ran an SFC Scan and found no errors
Ran a DISM Scan and completed without warnings

It kept freezing on me.
This is a computer I have been using from almost 3 years without issues and no new hardware has been added since like 8 Months, and it was a headset (Nova Arctics Pro), so I decided best course was to just wipe the OS and reinstall, as I was paranoid that something or someone was disabling the Memory Integrity Check and the Allow only Signed Drivers settings, so I made with Media Creation Tool a bootable drive and proceeded to do a fresh install.
Guess what? it freezes and gives me the BSOD with DPC_Watchdog_Violation while Installing Windows 11!!! this is after wiping all partitions to start as fresh as I could, and I can never get farther than choosing for what purpose I want to use the computer step right after logging in with my Microsoft Account.
Obviously it could not be drivers anymore, right? I'm not too sure about it at this point.
Then I started to troubleshot hardware as it was the only logical reason for it to keep happening, I have already tried:

Changing the Existing SSD to a new PCIE Bay and no additional Disks
A new SSD on both PCIE Bays and no additional Disks
A SATA SSD and no additional Disks
Swapped Memory Sticks
Unplugged everything but Display Port, Ethernet Port, Mouse and Keyboard via USB
Took out Live Gamer Duo Capture Card

At this point all that's left for me to test is the GPU, the PSU or the MB, but I don't have spares to do so, so I wanted to make sure before I decide to invest in any part,

Could it be possible the PSU is the Culprit?
Or is it more likely the GPU?
- If it's the GPU, is it just faulty or could be that it somehow retained some driver incompatible with the system, if so how can it be fixed?
Does it makes sense that it could be one of the RGB controllers connected on the USB ports?

I'm about to head home to test it with a Bootable Drive to run memtest86, and try to see if I get the same behavior on a Linux Distribution, but this is driving me nuts! if it's supposed to be almost 100% driver related how come after a partition wipe it's still happening during a clean Windows 11 install!?
These are my specs if it helps:

Ryzen 9 5900X CPU
ASUS ROG Strix B550-E Gaming Motherboard
G.SKILL TridentZ RAM DDR4 3600 2 sticks of 16GB each
ROG Strix 3070
SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB
ROG Strix 850W Gold PSU PSU

Since I started a Windows reinstall I don't have access to Memory Dumps or other Tools.

2023.03.21 20:06 oodachris Lenovo Legion Pro 5i gen7 v gen8 (UK)

Background: I mostly use my laptop (currently a 2015 ThinkPad T540p i7-4710MQ) for "maker" related things; a little CAD, PCB design, programming, usual research/productivity stuff. I also have an old Optiplex with a GTX1050ti for very occasional video editing in Resolve, or gaming playing something like Satisfactory or Farming sim.
I typically work at a desk with the thinkpad docked, but will also take it to my workshop to follow plans or debug some electronics, so the IO is somewhat important, as is some reasonable durability. It would be nice to replace both machines with a new laptop. I don't think the value is there anymore for a new high performance ThinkPad eg X1 Extreme Gen5 with a 3050ti at well over £2000.
My #1 choice looking at the market so far is a Legion 5i Pro 16 gen7, i7-12700H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, RTX3060 6GB, 500nit IPS. It's got a decent number of ports spanning USB-A/RJ45 for my older DIY/maker uses, USB-C/thunderbolt for anything more modern (or docking?). I like the format with the full numpad and large trackpad. That comes out at £1332.49 on the Lenovo site, plus an additional 10% off down to just under £1200. I plan to upgrade the RAM and SSD myself to 32GB/2TB basically as soon as I get it, Lenovo's upgrade prices seem about double compared to the component costs on Amazon (even keeping the old ones for warranty).
The Legion Slim 7i gen7 also doesn't look bad. 24GB RAM, slightly bigger battery, slightly lighter for ~£1700.
Question is, should I hold out for a deal on the new 5i gen8 model as this will have a 13th gen CPU / RTX4000? It doesn't appear to have Thunderbolt either, but would using a thunderbolt dock be terrible for gaming anyway?
Final question: is upgrading the Wireless 2x2 AC to WiFi 6E AX worthwhile for £50? We still don't have fibre to the prem internet where I live, but hopefully it's coming in the next few years.

Bonjour à tous, j’ai besoin d’infos urgemment concernant mon état. J’ai différents sons de cloches et je ne sais plus quoi penser. Je vais essayer d’expliquer mon cas le plus rapidement possible: Le 10 février je me suis faite percutée par une voiture (qui m’a grillé la priorité dans un giratoire) en scooter, (je suis factrice donc c’était pendant ma tournée). Je m’en suis sortie avec des contusions (j’ai eu beaucoup de chance) donc arrêt de 2 semaines puis reprise sans voir avec le médecin du travail car je ne connaissais pas le processus de reprise. Sauf que mentalement ça n’a pas suivi: stress quasi-permanent même en dehors du travail, crises d’angoisse par-ci par -là, tension et peur permanente en voiture... Le médecin m’a décelé un stress post-traumatique. La conduite c’est mon job, donc le stress fait partie intégrante de ma vie depuis maintenant un mois peu importe le véhicule. C’est là que les problèmes commencent : temps que tout va bien physiquement les gens s’en tapent du reste. Mentalement ça va mal et tout le monde se renvoie la balle. L’assistante sociale de la Poste me dit d’abord que je dois suivre MonParcoursPsy et de prendre rdv avec mon médecin traitant et le médecin du travail. Mon médecin traitant me prescrit des rdv chez le psy et n’est pas chaude pour une EMDR, et me dit aussi que c’est pas trop la peine de contacter le médecin du travail pour ça. Ça fait 3 semaine que j’essaie d’obtenir le numéro du médecin du travail, en vain, car hier mon RH m’a annoncé que mon cas n’était pas assez « urgent » pour me mettre en relation avec lui, alors que je venais de faire une crise d’angoisse dans l’enceinte de l’établissement. Je commence à me dire que ça sera mauvais pour mes responsables si j’entrais en contact avec le médecin du travail... Alors voilà est-ce que quelqu’un s’y connait et peut me renseigner svp ? Y a-t-il une marche à suivre ? Je vais pas tarder à péter les plombs. Je suis tendue au travail, je fais encore des crises d’angoisse certains jours, je suis exténuée, et en rentrant chez moi je dois encore chercher quoi faire sur internet et/ou chercher quel type de psy je dois voir car je n’y connais rien. Merci d’avance à tous ceux qui sauront m’aider.

Our first house was purchased for $82,000 in December 2010 with low interest. We sold it 2016 for $115,000 to buy our land.
To buy our land, we put some of the equity towards credit card debt and the rest towards purchasing the land for $150,000 at a 15 yr fixed rate of around 5% interest rate. We “rebuilt” our house starting Nov 2019 with a refinance and construction loan in one. We didn’t put any down, it was 90% loan to value. The house we built made the value ( once complete ) more than the loan. Currently, the estimated appraisal is around $800,000 leaving $498,000 in equity. We didn’t purchase and build in a typical way. We bought the 45 acres for 150k 4% or so15 year loan 3 years before refinancing with a construction loan. We did put down $15,000 to purchase the land originally.

We have owned a business for 10 years. It is a contract that has been $30,000 per year until this year; it is now $35,500. This is very part-time, part of the year. We have always worked on this in our free time, until 2021 when I did work it as my main job for that year and a half. We have had our real estate licenses since 2016; we didn’t make any money until 2019. It ranged from $15,000-$30,000, was in 2021. He is quitting real estate and I recently also quit.

He does get paid mileage but also has to have a 4x4 truck for work; although he doesn't work in the woods most days.

2010-2014 Worked as a draftsman while getting my associates in drafting. I was honest with them from the beginning about going back for a bachelor's. The most I made was $15/ hour with benefits only in the last year of employment. We started our contract work in 2013 at $25,000 per year.
2014 went back to college for a bachelor's degree and got my first real credit card. I don’t recall my balance when I started working on it but I would say it was over 3k. I also learned he had over 5k in cc debt when we started talking about combining our finances and working on debt. He was making $33 per hour with no benefits. Our contract was $25,000 per year which was broken up into equal payments over the year.
2016 - 2019 We combined out income and I took over finances completely with no help. I agreed to join the family business after finishing my degree in May 2016 and also got my real estate license ( boss MIL was also a broker). Worked full time from May until end of November when our child was born. I made $15-$25 in that time. We paid $800 per month for private insurance and had a traumatic delivery that came to another $18,000 after insurance coverage. I was scared of being one alone with my child; I had postpartum but didn’t tell anyone nor fully wanted to admit it to myself. Our daughter wasn’t easy going even as a baby, she had to be on my body at all times to be happy. She still gets bored easily. We spent a lot of money on stuff to entertain her at home; she never liked anything, not even a swing. We hired a nanny to be at our office with us full time from age 1 month to 3. We paid her $10 per hour in cash. Our daughter started pre-k at a private school at 3. $350 a month. Debt varied as always. I was at the office 40-45 hours but my boss used me to do real estate stuff she didn’t want to do which cut my hours to 30-32 per week hourly; I was never compensated for all of the real estate admin and website building. We both had our real estate licenses but never made anything until 2019-2022. It took up 8+ hours or so of my weekly hours then a lot of our weekends. In 2016, our contract work increased to $30,000 and payments changed to larger payments during our busy time of the year. I feel like that was when we started relying on that income to bail us out of debt.
Nov 2019-April 2020. Refinanced our land and did a construction loan to rebuild our house. Our daughter was out of school and at home with me working which was very hard. Our house was finished April 2020 two weeks before everything started shutting down further it seems. Debt was maybe around 10k because we forgot to plan for the carport that still doesn’t have a slab. It’s just dirt.
2020-2021 We told our boss MIL we were leaving the business. We were tired of the stress and chaos with her and low wages with no benefits. We were given raises ( $33 and $40 per hour ) to keep us there. I told her several months later in a formal notice I was quitting. I was guilt tripped and manipulated to stay; she stated we would make the changes necessary and I would start taking over her job. Of course nothing at all changed. I was a wreck and quit without notice 6 months later after trying again 2 months before because I was a serious mess. This hurt us financially because I wasn’t taking care of our finances and was too upset. I did take over our business contract work so we didn’t have to work on that during our free time. My husband was also a mess on and off, so we kept an emergency fund to support him quitting and finding a job. He told her twice he was quitting but could never follow through. We used up our emergency fund because we weren’t paying attention. Somehow spending 2k a month on groceries for several months. I hate that I have no clue how it happened and how much food waste we had.
2021-2023 I didn’t work for MIL from May 2021-October 2021 when I went back but only 10 hours per week. I went back because we needed the income. I typically worked 12 hours a week until leaving recently. We decided to move to Michigan; I feel like i sacrificed a lot staying in Texas ( I never wanted to ) and putting up with everything working for his mother and all the chaos and control that came with that. We will be moving end of May beginning on June. He still works for her and doesn’t have a set plan.
Reflection
I feel like our lives have been a wreck the last 3-6 years and I refuse to fall back into it. I feel like not having benefits has hurt us more than we ever imagined it would. Just this year so far we’ve paid $2400 for his emergency root canal and crown. $400 for a consultation and CT scan for my nose for sinus issues. $3500 for a new fence for our dogs. It seems to never end.
I was upset with myself for awhile; I am trying hard to focus on the future. We need to learn to plan and save for large expenses. I am highly considering separating our finances and splitting everything proportionally. He has yet to actually help me with managing our finances although I have mentioned and asked numerous times. He is also supposed to be evaluated for ADHD. He does try and he’s a great partner besides his mom problems and not helping with finances. He thinks just not spending money is enough for our finances. Our therapist thinks us getting away ( even if it is only part of the year ) will change my husband and his dynamic with his mother. I hope he will fall in love with where we are moving, and agree to stay there permanently and sell our home/property in Texas.
